"For a new beginning
For a turnaround
Our heads are spinning
And we won't calm down
We're a wall in motion
Or a change is now walk in the park
What comes around
Goes around
You better watch out
We're the children of the dark

We're nothing like you, we're true and free
We're nothing like you but you can't see
We're nothing like you and all the rest
We're nothing like you

We're the children of the dark"

Erik Leroux

As dark and scary was still looking around, another customer entered the building. Looking over, he was surprised he knew who it was even if though they had never been here: pale and scary from yesterday at the beach. "Great, I've got yin and yang creepy here. They don't pay me enough for this..." Well, at least they hadn't done anything bad yet, so maybe things would run smoothly. Even better, he had been practicing pronouncing the dude's name, replaying the official pronunciation over and over in his mind and steadily figuring out how to mimic the sounds. He still couldn't speak Gaelic, and if he were asked to pronounce a different word, he would fail abysmally, but he was confident that he had the name down. D seemed to be so distracted by the books that he hadn't noticed there was anyone else in the store. Whatever, fine. Erik grabbed out a book from behind the counter and began glancing through it, not really interested in working when he didn't have to, but still acting like he belonged there. About a second later he realized all too late that he probably shouldn't have picked a book at random. This was a parenting book, like, when you were still expecting your first. Oh s**t that was definitely going to taint some perceptions (that and he had way more experience than this, he could probably even school the authors.) Welp, in the end, would it really matter if these people thought he was in the family way? Wasn't like he was looking to befriend them, and maybe that sort of cover would keep him out of trouble. Not that he was going to lie though, there were plenty enough stupid movies where the entire premise is trying to prove a lie, only to find that the truth was easier. Thanks Hollywood, everyone got the message already, human nature just didn't work that way. He wasn't paying that much attention to the book anyway, technically he was supposed to keep an eye on the customers and all, and with only one eye available, there was a lot of switching from focus to focus.

The neko boy toy was grabbing books like they were going to be outlawed soon. Maybe he was going to be stuck somewhere without a bookstore for ages? Hell if he knew. Either way, that many books meant some good money for the store, and maybe a commission for Erik? That would be nice, he knew he could use the money. He glanced over at chocolate mystery then towards vanilla mystery, which apparently netted him a smile. Erik gave a slight nod of recognition before returning to his book for a moment. Wasn't long though before D decided he had enough books picked out for now, or at least he was ready to head up to the counter and get them all paid for. Erik gave a slight smile, "well well, look what dragged the cat in. Planning for a night in, Darragh?" As if anyone was going to read all of that in one night, not even Erik could do that. Krotak stared at the cat haughtily, beak held high as if surveying a subject. It was one hell of a confidence boost to be respectfully spoken to by a cat (you know, rather than eaten and/or killed). Partway through the transaction, the other dude showed up. Of course the guy asked for a cig, freaking hell did he look like the handout center? "Donations are accepted, but I can't exactly put a price on one given they were given to me for free by present company." He held out the pack to him, but kept a firm grasp on it. The guy could have ONE, no more. He appreciated that the guy didn't seem to focus on his eyepatch, he freaking hated it when people did that, yet he also hated when people made an effort not to look. "His name is Krotak," he added nothing else, but Krotak cawed his thanks. The next part was addressed to D, and he was damn glad he could hide behind doing his work. What the hell was the blood comment supposed to mean? Did the guy just have a score to settle with elves, or was he particularly interested in blood? Holy s**t was he stuck in a room with a vampire? He doubted he would fare too well if he were to suddenly lose a fair amount of his blood.

"These vengeful thoughts trapped underneath
Rage, scorn, misery
Payback for what you took from me
Hope, love, sanity
I heard that you reap what you sow
So here's to believing in ghosts
Now when you see my face you’ll know
You can't save yourself
Or save your soul
When you meet the man whose life you stole
With weathered wings and broken bones
A flight for the fallen flies the crow"

Darragh had indeed been slightly distracted by picking out books. But now he had walked to the counter and saw the other man closer up he recognized him. No wonder they seemed familiar. The feline had done quite a few dealings with them to get his hands on elven blood. Hunting himself was far from Darragh's ideal way to spend a night. He could be relaxing somewhere instead. "Hardly!" he said with a light laugh at Erik's comment. "No way I could read all this in one night." Once he placed his stacks on the counter, of course it didn't take long for Solomon to notice him, Darragh sighed a bit and shot Solomon a look like 'did you have to say that out loud?' but then he grinned a bit. It wasn't like it was a big problem yet, only Erik and Krotak had heard. That said he didn't really need to worry much if Solomon was in Soleil to stay.

"You still peddling it?" he counter asked and smiled a bit before he glanced at Erik. It was mainly done to gauge their reaction. Though their blood was of little interest to the feline right now, who knew later on? "Of course I am still in for elven blood. It's the best stuff. Are you offering?" he replied since his cover towards the other two was blown now already anyway. He then turned to Erik completely for now so they could finish the transaction. Would they worry now they knew? The young man was probably the lowest on his feed radar. "I would like to pay for these please. Do I pay you Erik, or do I turn to you Krotak?" he teased slightly. "I wouldn't worry to much about what my friend here is saying. I can tell you with confidence I am not after your blood." Darragh said and smiled a bit.

It was the truth, for now, but whether or not they would believe it was another. While he waited for Erik to decide how they would take this news, Darragh looked back at Solomon. "It has indeed been quite a while. Are you here in Soleil to stay?" he asked the man. How great it would be if that was true. They had never failed to deliver on elven blood yet. Hunting for blood was quite a trying task at times. Darragh was never sure what the other was thinking, but it didn't really matter. They didn't attack him and they get along so it was fine in his opinion. If anything if Darragh had any friends, then Solomon would be the closest to that than anyone. Regardless of who he addressed, the vampire stood in a way he could see them both. Let no one say he didn't have manners at the very least.

Darragh wondered if Solomon would still be able to fill his orders. That had sure been the easier and more relaxing days. No worried about his next feed, all he had to do was walk to the fridge. Much like how humans went there for food. Of course the feline made sure no one could accidentally find it if they were to go to the main fridge in the kitchen. He kept his own supply in a fridge in his 'office'. Since he didn't expect guests anytime soon.

ABILITIES

Entrance: He can entrance his victim to make them easier to drink from and so he can do so without them realizing they were drank from. Essential for Darragh, as he doesn't drain his victims. It is so much easier to have plenty of blood at hand. (Will only be used against players if they agreed before hand)
Transformation: He can turn into any nocturnal animal. Think Owl, Bat etc.
Can walk at daytime: Thanks to his demon blood, this vampire's life is not one confined to dark, enclosed buildings and coffins.
Very fast/High jumps: His feline attributes haven't gotten less once he was bitten, they may even have been enhanced a bit further.

♞ The boy was amusing donations were accepted, he said then held out the pack for him to take one. As he reached for a cig, and a bit of sleight of hand he placed two bucks on top of the box.'' Thought I'd be a bit generous'' he said this while looking at Erik eyepatch being a d**k in away. There was hidden humor to it as, well two bucks to see the one-eyed freakshow. Spinning the cig around his fingers with ease he heard the name Krotak. That made the bells in his head ring.'' Krotak huh? In Croatian, that means meek'' he said not looking at the boy, but the beautiful raven. Then back to the crimson cat, he decided he would stop being a jerk to the kid.

♞ After all, he did just give him a cig for free even though Solomon made it a bit void. His buyer made him chuckle a bit as if he needed to ask that question '' Of course I hate to leave my clients disappointed'' his voice held a smooth tone. '' You let me do all the dirty work though...better me than you'' indeed this dual existence did have its perks. The kitsune considered killing an art, and he only killed for a reason this was one of them. From the words that came from his mouth, it seemed Darragh was hungry for some elven blood.'' I do but we will have to go to a better location, and my usual fee'' the usual price is fifty bucks. Lucky for Darragh he had a client discount or it would have been a hundred bucks!

♞Still spinning the cig and leaning his back on the counter, he heard Darragh try to cover things up. It was all amusing to him he cared not that the boy actually knew, he could cook him and his bird for dinner. If they went around telling people things they ought not to know. Though Solomon played along'' By all means pretend you never heard anything'' is all he had to say. His attention on Darragh responded with'' Yeah... the people here are interesting a city for freaks since I'm a freak it is...home.'' After living here for some time the place had grown on him. He considered Darragh a unique freak given the man's mixed blood. '' We should hunt together again someday I bet my ancestor would like that'' putting the kitsune on the spot.

♞Darragh would know of whom he spoke of '' I hope he hasn't gotten too comfortable after all this time.'' Looking at the stacks of books on the counter '' Impressive collection'' looking over at Erik and Krotak he spoke'' Are you an avid reader as well?'' just for the sake of small talk.'' At least you have some sense of courtesy even though you can be tackless.''

Erik Leroux

Great. He was in the presence of a nekopire and a freaking serial killer. Why the hell did luck hate him so much? "Prefer it went to me. That way it actually gets in the register." He was still playing it safe for now, not siphoning any of the money towards himself as of yet. Maybe once he was more settled into the job it would be a consideration, but he needed this job and he didn't want the accusatory fingers to land on him. As for the reassurance that he wasn't about to become the soup de jour, he just gave a brief nod and replied "sure, if you say so." Did he believe that? Hell no, but there was no need in arousing suspicion in a person who could potentially kill him. Better to just take the cash owed, bag up the books and stay in the damn background while they hashed things out.

Next it was back over to Caligula who was reaching for a cigarette. As soon as even a corner of the bills caressed his skin, he immediately palmed them, then as only one cig was taken, he slid the pack back into his shirt pocket. Had he known that the two dollars was also an admission price of sorts, he would have given them back. He returned the look with an impassable glare. Hell no he wasn't going to give any information up, or even let the a** get a rise out of him. Granted, if he hadn't of needed this job, he would have probably started a fight, told him that only people with no brains or nothing to be confident about tried to make people feel like freaks, and at least he lost it through action and not over petty playground arguments. If they ran into each other again, and there wasn't the whole customer/employee relationship s**t to deal with, there was a damn good chance this dunce was going to get pounded. Krotak wouldn't have cared so much, if it wasn't him next on the chopping block. "You think he was looking at a Croatian to Raven phrasebook when he picked that name? So what if his name has a shitty translation? Better than having a shitty personality." Welp, there went his perfect calm, but it was one thing to nag on him, but nagging on Kro too was unacceptable. Revenge would come.

And just like that, Scrappy turned his attention over to the nekopire as if business had been concluded successfully. Freaking p***k, how am I going to get him out of here? The two murderhobos kept talking about random crap as if this was some sort of Parisian cafe and not a legit business. Sounded like some sort of underground blood market getting formed around here, and judging by the supplier, he probably got the blood from babies or flayed people alive or something. Nothing good could come out of him. After more random sketch talk which seemed to last for freaking ever, the stereotypical villain turned his attention back over to them for a second with a seriously lame question: 'are you an avid reader as well?' "No, I work here for the booze and chicks. What the hell do you think?" Nah, he wanted them out pronto, picking a fight wouldn't get them going. "Yes." There. Short enough that it actively tried to kill conversation, that should work.

"These vengeful thoughts trapped underneath

Ayluin wandered over the sun blazed street as his shoulders heaved in a sigh a little. He was feeling tired and conflicted. Since he had gotten the new books about illusions he had been studying them whenever able and it had led in several long nights. But what bothered him the most was what he had found out. Since he had been mentioned that he actually reminded Driz of a moonelf he had studied them as well alongside the illusion logs and books. It had led him to the conclusion that his father's reluctance of letting him study magic might not be grounded in nothing after all. Though it wasn't much better. If he were to believe what he read so far, his father might actually have wanted to hide from his son that he was a moonelf. If it weren't enough he couldn't find anywhere that a state of the moon could cause a moonelf to be born from high elves, then perhaps the personality resemblance, or lack there of, was some indication. A yawn escaped the male and he covered his mouth with his hand as he was always taught by his mother.

"Man, it has kept me up near all night wondering..." he said softly, his accent already slightly adjusted to Soleil, before he shook his head and placed a hand on the door of the bookstore once he arrived. The moonelf wasn't sure if the shop was open but once he pushed down the handle the door opened and revealed the familiar shop to him. He had bought several books here already. The young man walked into the shop and closed the door behind him before he walked further and glanced at the counter. He wasn't wholly surprised to see Erik there. Ayluin gave a wave for now before he walked to the hobby section. It was the first place where he would look for a book about cooking. The male was eager to try out the recipes of humans. Especially baking was something he enjoyed a lot. He even contemplated trying to find a job where he could learn more, but had quickly reconsidered since restaurants would likely be looking for chefs.

The elf would look through as much sections as he had to to find the recipe books and when he found them he was delighted. "Aha, so here they are." he said softly and smiled before looking over the spines to see what they were about. The first he found was a book about the basics of pastries, which was actually convenient. They used different utensils than the elf was used to. Ayluin opened the book and looked through it on the spot to see if the book would be good to take home. After confirming it would be, he glanced over the spines once more as he looked for more books about baking. The moonelf was determined to not buy a whole stack again like last time. Not that he had to watch his cash, but in the end it had been way to many.

As if he wanted to make it easier on him he only picked up on book about general cooking and after that he focused on baking only. In the end he had the basics of pastries, the general cooking book and 3 other books about specific types of oven baked goodies that sounded interesting. With those few books he wandered to the counter and placed them down before smiling a bit at Erik and Krotak. "Good morning Erik, Mr. Krotak." he said to the two before him. "How have you two been?" he asked curiously. It wasn't that he had seen them an awful lot, but enough for the elf to remember them well. It would seem they were at the bookstore a lot.

INVENTORY

Wallet: $500
House Keys
Several bags of seeds
Basics of Pastries (recipe book)
General Cookbook
Some books about baking all sorts of waffles, muffins and pies

ABILITIES

⬤ One of his abilities is that he can grow plants from seeds. Nothing major but he can grow small fruits (berries, strawberries etc.) and herbs.

He can conjure a powerful shield of energy which blocks attacks and repels the attacker. But the more often he has to use it or the longer he has to sustain it, the more energy this drains. The same goes for how many he is protecting. If it is just himself it takes less energy than when protecting two or more. If he is to tired he can't call upon the shield at all.

Erik Leroux

Yet another day dawned in Soleil, same as the past several dozen ones he had experienced since getting a sort of steady income. Not that he regretted the money or having a roof over his head, but he had to admit things were really freaking boring. He had met some shady people and some nice ones, but the shady ones were acting like threats, and the nice ones? there were so many nice people here it was almost like a freaking horror movie. Still, he got up just like every morning to take care of the same stuff over and over again. At least he had recently upgraded to a better breakfast: plain toast. Sure it didn't sound exciting, but it was better than living off of cheap ramen. He took his breakfast al fresco, which was just a needlessly fancy term for "outside so he could get his morning cig too." Krotak glared at him, but was easily enough bribed by a piece of toast thrown in his direction. After getting cleaned up and dressed, he went ahead and opened the store. Looking the store over and straightening things up, he made a quick tour of the store before grabbing a book at random for him to read at the desk. A couple pages in, he had the sinking suspicion his random book bad luck had struck again. Looking at the front cover, his palm flew to slap against his forehead, "s**t. A freaking ten cent romance novel. Now I'm going to have to remember this cringe for the rest of my life." Most would probably have put the book back and gotten something else, but not him. No, once he grabbed a book he finished it, even if it about killed him. At least he could read fast, and frankly, he was probably going to speed through this one as fast as he could.

About a tenth of the way through the book, he heard the door handle move. Looking over to see who it was, upon noticing a familiar face, he quickly slammed the book shut and slid it off to the side. He nodded a greeting to Ay, but kept mostly quiet. To some people, that was part of the allure of bookstores: there weren't sales people constantly barking at you. A shopper could enter the store, exchange a brief greeting with whomever was behind the counter, then they could stroll about the shop at their leisure. They could take five minutes or an hour, didn't matter much, and when they were done all they had to do was initiate another transaction with the counter person. It was great if you didn't like talking to people. Erik waited a while before returning to his book; he could spend only so much time listlessly watching Ay before it got super creepy. He'd just have to make sure what he was reading was out of sight by the time the glowworm returned. Once he heard steps coming his way, he looked up and yep Ay had a small stack of books in his hands and was headed his way. Erik shut the book and put it under the counter. "Morning," he responded with a faint smile. Krotak fluttered down to the counter and perched on the register. He would have preferred to be looking down on the glowworm, but the only way to get close was to sit on the register, which at least made him close to eye level. "Good morning, Glowworm. Nice of you to drop in. Talking to the half-idiot all of the time get so dull!" Erik just rolled his eyes as he continued scanning the books. "We're...alright. Could be better, could be worse." It was not within Krotak's realm of manners to ask if the Glowworm was doing well or not. "Learning to bake, I take it? If you need someone to test your work on, I volunteer." Before anyone had a chance to add anything else, Krotak piped up again, "you could teach the Glowworm. You always told me you used to do a lot of cooking when you were younger." Erik shot him a glare and something muttered under his breath. "Don't mind him, he doesn't know what he's talking about."

Ayluin hadn't even noticed Erik staring at him for a while as he had been occupied with the recipe books. By the time he had glanced at the counter, Erik was reading a book again. Not that Ayluin thought anything of it. This was a bookstore after all and it looked like business was slow this morning. The moonelf used the quiet time to look at the books intently and make his choices before he had walked off to Erik to pay them. He knew all to well that if he would linger at that section for to long he would go home with a stack again. A smile played over Ay's lips when Krotak was so quick to react again. They really were something. "Good to see you again Mr. Krotak." he said and reached out to scritch Krotak under his beak a bit, hoping he wasn't being to presumptuous at the time.

If the raven would make any sound or indication of dislike to it however the elf would stop sooner. Either way he turned to Erik as well and nodded a bit. "I know several recipes from...the elves but this will be my first try with human recipes." he admitted with a slight hesitation. The moonelf still felt conflicted if he should call them 'his' people still. He soon mentally shrugged off for now though, he didn't want to alert anyone. Ayluin chuckled a bit. "I'll remember your offer. Once I managed to bake something from this book, I will bring some for you both." he agreed with a smile. It was actually a nice idea to know that he had someone that could try it for him. His own opinion would hardly be unbiased after all.

"Any preferences?" he asked them both and smiled gently. If they were willing to try his pastries, why not start with what they would like to eat? And it would be a welcome distraction for Ayluin too if he had something else to focus on. A chuckle had escaped him when Krotak said the other could teach him. It would seem the raven spoke more than Erik liked them to. "Well...in case he does, I wouldn't mind a few tips." the moonelf said as he looked at Krotak and gave them a wink. These two really were a welcome distraction. A hilarious duo. The elf thought about it for a moment before he spoke again. "You are welcome to come visit me at my home and I can bake them while you are there. And if you do get the sudden urge to cook you can use my kitchen." he spoke, inviting them to his home for a visit without hesitation.

INVENTORY

Wallet: $500
House Keys
Several bags of seeds

"For a new beginning
For a turnaround
Our heads are spinning
And we won't calm down
We're a wall in motion
Or a change is now walk in the park
What comes around
Goes around
You better watch out
We're the children of the dark

We're nothing like you, we're true and free
We're nothing like you but you can't see
We're nothing like you and all the rest
We're nothing like you

We're the children of the dark"

Erik Leroux

Krotak permitted the scratches as a way of paying homage to a superior, and had to admit it was quite the pleasurable homage. Erik ignored the egotistical raven, not like anything he said would make a difference, usually only when Erik was absolutely distressed or desperate would Krotak genuinely listen to him. ”Never had elf food before, but I would imagine it would be good.” Granted, toast was an exciting change for him, so he probably was not one to judge. Even if the shop was basically dead, he still went ahead and rang up the items just in case his boss walked in. No need to look like a slacker when he definitely needed this job. Or well, definitely needed a job, and this one was more his style. ”I look forward to it. It’s been ages since I had anything home-cooked, well, home-cooked by someone other than me, that is.” Well that was sort of a confession that he could cook, but it was different than saying he was great at it and could teach someone else. He used to do it a lot, but he was never that great, and frankly he had no love for the skill. He figured most of the people who talked about how much they loved cooking or baking always linked it back to watching a parent in the kitchen and helping them, or family meals that brought everyone together and were so happy. Needless to say, he didn’t have memories like that.

”No preferences, but thanks though. I’m pretty open to everything, especially spicy things, but I doubt spice and pastries go well together. Make whatever you want, a gift is a gift no matter.” Sure Erik could help out on the whole baking exploration thing, and he would probably even learn something, but that wouldn’t benefit Ay much. Ay seemed to treat the skill like it was a pastime, something he did for pleasure; mixing in Erik’s sour disposition would just put a damper on something Ay liked, which would be a grave disservice. Though maybe Ay really did need a lot of help? Wouldn’t it then be a bigger crime if he didn’t help? He figured he’d meet the two theories in the middle: if Ay was about to completely ruin it, harm himself, or set the house ablaze, he would step in. Otherwise he would keep to the sidelines. ”I’ll stop by when I get a day off, thanks. Still, you aren’t getting any cooking out of me, at least not willingly. By the way, um, where do you live?” He hadn’t had cause to need to know until now. His instincts were questioning why the hell someone would let in an almost complete stranger, but that just sort of seemed to be the type of person that Ay was: always give and always trust. Made Erik wonder how he had survived for so long.

"These vengeful thoughts trapped underneath
Rage, scorn, misery
Payback for what you took from me
Hope, love, sanity
I heard that you reap what you sow
So here's to believing in ghosts
Now when you see my face you’ll know
You can't save yourself
Or save your soul
When you meet the man whose life you stole
With weathered wings and broken bones
A flight for the fallen flies the crow"

The moonelf was glad that Krotak seemed to welcome his scritches. Since they enjoyed it he kept it up long enough until he had to remove his hand to take out his wallet to pay for the books while Erik already scanned them in. Ayluin took his wallet from his back pocket and opened it before he waited to hear the total amount of his purchase. He smiled when he heard Erik's answer, it made him happy to hear they were interested. From home he had learned the best meals were the shared ones. "That sounds great. I look forward to hear what you think of my cooking and baking." he replied and chuckled happily. Since Rowan and Yoshi he had gotten pretty more used to having people over as well. It truly was nice to just have some company. He wasn't really used to being alone as much as he was now to be fair.

Ayluin laughed a bit when Erik mentioned spicy and pastries and shook his head. "I have to agree, I don't think that would mix well. Unless of course there recipes out there for spicy sweets or delicacies." he added and thought about it seriously for a moment. This place did seem to be amazingly varied, who knows what one could find? He soon pushed the thought aside for now though. That was something to look up in the books he was buying. The moonelf checked the amount he had to pay for the books and handed over the money for them before he picked them up and stepped aside a bit. He wouldn't leave yet, they were talking after all and he quite enjoyed his conversations with the other but that was no reason to get in the way of other potential customers. He did notice the raven was uncharacteristically quiet however.

Or at least compared to his previous experiences with the intelligent bird. When he heard Erik's question he chuckled a bit and blushed slightly. "What a slip up. I never did mention my address did I? Kind of difficult to come visit then." he admitted. The elf could be quite scatterbrained at times, it was the sad truth. A dreamer his father would often call him, but that was just how Ayluin happened to be. "I live in the Pasadena District. On number 1215." he answered the question and smiled gently. "Should I write it down? Or my phone number perhaps?" the moonelf offered both. If need be they could always ring him up. It was something he was glad he learned rather quickly. How to use his mobile phone, though he only procured a newer one recently.

Perhaps it hadn't been necessary, but Ayluin was still so curious to all the new things around him and had only learned of a few devices so far that he had just up and gone purchased it the moment it was out. It was rather confusing with all the extra tools it had and the moonelf was struggling to get his head wrapped around all the functions. One time the phone had talked on own accord even and the elf almost dropped the device then. But he soon learned it was just a feature and not the phone actually talking to him. It had sure startled him however and it had taken a few days before he felt ready to pick the thing up again. Thankfully no one had been a witness of that embarrassing episode... Ayluin wouldn't even want Driz to have seen that and he had come to like the older man quite a bit as friends, even though they seemed to keep some distance from him.
