"Oh god!" Bix threw his head back with a disbelieving laugh. "There's a lot. Like a lot. Insanity. Horsemen. Haunted House. There's no fog anymore. We have giant killer titans on the island. No more shielding from Excalibur and Merlin's on the loose..." Bix took a breath and then his eyes widened. "You probably don't even remember that stuff.."

The tall man let go of her finally, thinking she had enough stability now. He retrieved a bottle of water and a granola bar for her. "You probably should take some time to yourself." A gentle hand rested on her shoulder. He could tell she was barely keeping it in. "Gather your thoughts."

It was like Bix was speaking another language. Excalibur and Merlin were real? Hanna was quick to believe it in the same way she had jumped headfirst into signing up for Deus before she even knew what it was. Still, she was the kind of person who liked to know EVERYTHING. Knowledge was her favorite thing in the world. And now she was looking at months and months of just trying to catch up on all the things that had happened in her absence.

Actually... that sounded kind of fun.

Easing to her feet, Hanna sucked in a breath as her feet touched the cold floor. "I guess I have some studying to do," she said, sounding more like a tween being told she won free tickets to the Miley Cyrus concert than the girl who had been depressed moments ago to learn she had been comatose for basically three years. Education could have that affect on a girl.

She took the water and granola bar from Bix with one hand. Then Hanna reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. Her fingertips brushed across a bone earring in the shape of a wing.

Oh. s**t.

NOW you remember me. Now. NOW? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO WAKE UP?

The Lady's voice split Hanna's head with a ferocity that had her gripping her temples. "Adelphe, damnit, SORRY," she said aloud.

Sorry? Oh, she's sorry. The former siren let out an angry snort and continued muttering. After a moment, she hissed: How. Dare. You.

Hanna glanced up to Bix with apologetic eyes. "I... should go," she said. "Apparently I have years of catching up to do."

And owe your beautiful, fearsome ME years of apologies. And I do mean to make you earn it, young lady. There was a huffy pause, and then, much quieter: I am glad you are back...

Giving Bix one last appreciative nod, Hanna slowly walked the familiar path away from the pods and back toward the dorms. God... what would her room be like? Would she even have a room? This would be the first of many questions for Hanna Nowicki to discover the answers too.

A knowledge quest. She couldn't wait!

Many people when they woke up to light in their faces were grumpy and combative. Cami was an odd person in that not only did she sleep with a light on at all times (to the frustration of her very-former roommate), she welcomed the slant of sunlight across her face. It meant that she'd gotten through another night wrapped up tightly in her bed so that limbs could not be left to dangle over the edges for a snatcher, that nothing was going to pop out of the darkness to make her regret venturing outside.

Except, she realized as her brain started to inch towards an awake state, that was not sunlight. She was not wrapped snugly in a warm blanket cocoon in her bed. And she'd slept in her contacts! Bleary eyes burned from the lack of moisture, shot through with red as they opened, growing quickly horrified at her surroundings. "Oh ******** me!" Screwing her aching eyes shut again the redhead said a quick mantra to herself. It was just a dream, just a dream...nope.

This was real. Real and horrible. Camixi was alone in a room that was much darker than she could have wanted it to be, the light eerie. Fluorescent? It would have been the only word she had to describe it, even though it wasn't accurate. Under her breath, gathering her courage, she started to sing the Nations of the World by Yakko Warner. United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama... She got as far as Guam before stopping which wasn't really very far at all.

Tentative, hopeful, she poked her brick-colored head out of the pod. "Is anyone out there? Anyone not going to eat me?" It was a distinct possibility, after all.

Bix had been in another section of the pod room, working his way back to the control panels, when he heard another voice. He almost jumped out of his skin, never good with surprises, and muttered in near-exasperation, "Another one?"

There'd been malfunctions resulting in unplanned awakenings, some who hadn't been through trials while in the pod, but Hannah's had been legit and checking his clipboard he saw that there were some others expected as well.

"Well s**t.. " No wonder they needed someone here. "COMING!"

Back to the new pods, fresh bodies to replace those who regularly fell. The albino hunter rounded a corner and in the florescent lighting seemed to almost glow. He was all white hair on white skin and shockingly crimson eyes that had to be some sort of genetic anomaly because they were just too red. His coat's markings would be meaningless to her but it continued his theme of white on white on white. He was even equipped with a bright white smile.

"Hello sleepy.." Bix rushed to the new girl. He must have struck the jackpot with red-heads today. "Don't rush out. Slow down.. Relax. You may be experiencing disorientation or memory loss." He offered her a work calloused hand to steady herself, "All perfectly normal."

Two things sprang immediately to Camixi's mind upon seeing the slightly-glowing man smiling at the exit of her pod. The first was that she wasn't alone, something that slowed her heart rate, keeping her from stroking out at the first mild shock that came around the corner. The second was that he was fuzzy around the edges, a little hard to look at, and that was weird. Never very religious at best and irreverent at worst, she swore again. "I'm dead, aren't I? White, bright, everything hurts. Clearly I'm dead." Yesss, science deduction powers go. She might not have gotten the most analytical brain in the family but she wasn't stupid.

Supposedly.

Nonetheless she reached out to take Bix's hand, surprised at the roughened feeling of it. Were angels supposed to have hands like that? Using her free hand to rub at her eyes, bringing back some of the moisture lost while in the pod, her reddened eyes examined again. Standing at the edge of her pod, waiting to step down onto the ground and into a life she'd forgotten she'd volunteered for, Cami narrowed her eyes in examination. "Not dead, huh?" It was almost to herself. One way to find out.

Using what meager strength was left the trainee hurled herself into Bix's arms. It wasn't hard to do, he had at least four inches on her, as solid as the hand she'd gripped. Hugging him tightly, reassuring herself that everything around her was solid by the beat of his heart, Cami tried to suppress the urge to cry. "Thank you so much!!" It seemed that she saw Bix as her savior from the pod, the lonely, semi-dark place where she wasn't safe.

"Not dead.. yet." He winked and smiled but there was something about the way he said it that made death seem like a definite possibility. The poor guy was caught totally off guard when she threw herself at him. "Whooooah shhh.. no biggie. Calm down. You are safe."

He was a big goof generally but with nearly 3 years of life as a hunter he'd begun to develop a bit of mentorship with some of the younger hunters, he even managed dad-guilt here and there with some of them. It was instinct for him to cradle the new hunter almost like a baby, and pat her hair.

"You are at Deus ex machina. A secret organization that you agreed to join. You may not remember now, but you will in time. We fight the bad things in the dark, creepies and crawlies. We're super heroes!" It was a very very very generous way to put it.

Cami drew out the hug, holding onto the nameless glowbug until she felt steadier. What it was about being around other people that helped her draw strength but it had always been where she was the most comfortable. Put her in a noisy, crowded room, and she herself would all but glow with energy and enjoyment. Alone in a quiet library? No. Not ever, please never!

Thankfully for Bix she did eventually let go, standing on her own two feet, closer to the hunter than the pod. This whole place gave her skin the crawlies though that was not an unfamiliar feeling for Cami -- she'd get used to it. Again. It took her time to process what it was he was saying. Deus Ex Machina? Agreeing to join a secret organization sounded pretty familiar; that had been most of college. Bad things in the dark, creepies and crawlies, that was what had pinged her internal radar.

Lilac eyes widened. "You're the guys that saved me on Halloween!" She remembered that much, at least. Thankfully she'd been spared immediate reminder of the trials that had gotten her into the pod, that had made her the trainee she was.

Rubbing again at her eyes, she gave Bix a wary smile. "I'm Cami." Which he probably knew because, seeing as she wasn't that stupid, had noticed her name was on the pod. With her birthday. And her blood type?! She frowned again. "But you knew that."

"Nice to meet you Cami." He also had a clipboard somewhere with all her info. "I'm Bix."

It was lucky for her that it was him she'd thrown herself at. Half the guys were perverts, the others were women haters or too spindly and thin to (most likely) support anyone's weight but their own. Bix was tall and solid and his daily training regime ensured that he was muscular, though not obnoxiously.

"I'm in sun division." He patted the bold sun emblem on the chest of his sleeveless coat. "We are the front lines, fighters. We smash stuff. There's also Mist, Moon, Life and Death. They all have their own jobs but.." He waved his hand. "You'll find all of that out."

She was also lucky that Bix was helpful. Some trainees didn't have anyone present when they woke up and even worse, some just got assholes to greet them.

"Your first step is meeting your partner." He gave a sly smile. "Best part." He held his hand up to 'secretively' whisper this rather loudly.

Camixi, when she felt better, would recognize her good fortune for what it was. When she found out that it was up to random chance who the awakening trainees saw for the first time, coming out of their pods, she would be just a little bit horrified. Had she gotten anyone less friendly than Bix she might have just crawled right back in and refused to come out or worse, sobbed pointlessly in a huddle on the floor.

Instead she just leaned back against the egg-shaped container that had held her, smiling at the idea of a partner. "No chance I'm lucky enough to get you for a partner?" One good sign that the redhead was gaining her bearings, feeling a bit more comfortable in her skin, was the sloe-eyed look shot Bix's way. If Cami was flirting, Cami was doing just fine. Looking around the room a little bit more proved uninteresting so she tugged the band out of her hair, shaking out the ombre-shaded locks while shifting from foot to foot. It wasn't a nervous gesture. Camixi was making sure her legs had stopped shaking.

"So..." She let the word hang for a moment. "Where do I go from here? Or, am I expected to stay here? Forever?!" Drama crept into her voice and humor, though rather seriously she hoped she wasn't stuck here forever. That would be awful. The pod hadn't been very comfortable.

"Haha.." Bix laughed a bit and turned pink in the cheeks. It was his usual reaction to overt flirting, or even compliments. "No no your partner will be way cooler than me. Just you wait and see."

"Forever-ever." Bix nodded with a smile now and in a way it was true. Deus was for life. And sometimes post-death as well. "You're gonna feel stupid after I say it but..." He peeked around a corner and pointed to a hallway. There was a glaring red arrow pointing down the hall for all new podlings to follow.

"That way to the cove. You'll meet your partner." He Vanna White waved her along. "Remember Harry," he said in a crappy british accent. "The wand chooses the wizard."

Eyebrows raised at the pointing out of the arrow as her shoulders shook in a quick and silent laugh. "I feel really really bad about the people who come out of those things without you here, Bix." Another compliment as she patted his arm lightly, starting to walk past on legs that had finally solidified enough to take her out of the room. His forever comment had worried her but seeing as she was supposed to leave this room, perhaps he'd misunderstood. Or, he was joking with ********, she was too tired for this.

Rubbing again at eyes that still hadn't stopped aching from contacts being left in too long, unwilling to take them out and lose them, Cami couldn't help but laugh. "I got that reference. Thanks, Mr. Bix Ollivander." For a moment she bit her lip wanting to ask terribly if he'd go with her yet reconsidered it. If he left here then anyone else who woke up would be alone. She was twenty-two years old; she could handle whatever was in front of her. Alone.

Skimming fingers through her hair absently she called out as booted heels clicked against the floor. "Catch you on the flipside, thanks again...for the hug." Camixi could never really resist the parting shot, even if it was entirely out of place and/or she had lost a verbal spar. Which was sadly more often than anyone would like.

A deep breath in her lungs, hands shaken out so that they didn't clench into fists, the new trainee stepped towards the Cove and the rest of her life.

He wasn't sure when the awareness started. But he was aware of his fingers and his toes and the fact he was breathing. He focused on the rise and fall of his chest, and that yes, yes he was alive. Yes he was breath. No he wasn't dead.

He winced as everything came into focus at once, the light hurting worse than the stale air in his lungs. Slowly, the brunette opened his equally brown eyes and blinked the crust out of his eyes. He was in some sort of pod, in a room filled with other pods. Or at least he assumed it was a pod. It could have been a high tech teleportation device for all he knew.

That would assume he remembered where he was coming from, of course. He didn't remember much, to be honest, except something of a... trial? Moving shadows. Darkness. And the word hunter. Whatever that meant.

He pushed himself out of the pod, gripping something attached to it as his knees threatened to give out. He glanced at it, blinking again.

Bradley Evans

Male

Bradley... Evans...

Wait. That was his name. He was Bradley Evans. Right? Right.

He glanced around. "Now to find a way out..." he coughed a few times, his baritone voice cracking from nonuse.

[ *this is set at an entirely different time period than the above post* ]

Being on pod duty was, in a word, extremely dull.

Being on pod duty with the brother that you disliked to the point of hatred was, in another word, terribly awkward and even more horribly dull, especially since Ian was sitting on one side of the room and Alistaire was sitting on the opposite side, neither one actually speaking to the other.

Or rather, Alistaire was attempting to talk to Ian and Ian was most definitely not talking to Alistaire.

"This is ridiculous."

And? Ian thought sullenly, but he didn't give Alistaire the satisfaction of actually voicing this thought aloud. Inside of his head Naomi made a soft sound of disapproval, though whether at himself or his brother, Ian wasn't entirely certain.

"One day you're going to realize that you're going to need me," Alistaire continued, idly plucking a stray thread off of his coat, which Ian took immense satisfaction in noticing was still a trainee coat, whereas his own bore the obvious signs of being an Intermediate. "And then you'll realize that this childish sense of you being right is rather...well, childish."

Ian clamped his mouth shut. Alistaire rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Ridiculous," he muttered again.

"Couldn't agree more," Ian grumbled. Maybe he'd get a distraction somehow; maybe one of the pods would open and then there'd be another Oliver running around looking lost and he wouldn't have to deal with this a*****e for much longer.

Ian glanced hopefully at one of the pods, but it remained stubbornly silent.

kuroopu
he requires your mountain dew!

He was not really a morning person, he loved and craved the days that he could sleep in and not have to open the shop and wait for people to filter in and complain about the cost of game cards and expansion books, or the fact that they were out of a certain kind of soda in the mini cooler.

He was feeling –really- quite… comfortable at that moment, just a little odd in a wa, confused because he’d been having the oddest damned dream too. Except… He blinked, bleary eyed and with a desperate desire to chug about a liter of cola… and thought for a moment that he’d fallen asleep in the back room of the store. It was dark, and strange, but it didn’t exactly have that old cheezy-chip and spilled soda smell that always mingled with that distinct smell of moldering paper.

This was happening, he realized, he was definitely… not in the back room, he was in a, well it seemed like a coffin… sort of, high tech alien abduction superman sent to earth kind of coffin. He did a quick check to make sure his teeth weren’t suddenly sharp… and sadly he didn’t seem to have the ability to fly either.

“Helloo?” He called cautiously, and hoped this wasn’t like one of the horror movies he sometimes watched. He tried running through the horror movie rules in his head but froze when he heard people talking. Was that a good or a bad sign? He wasn’t sure.

“Hellooo?” He called again “…I hear talking.” He told them.

"Talk to me, Ian."

"No."

"You're acting childish."

"It takes one to know one."

"I think you just proved my point."

Rolling his eyes, Ian leaned back in his chair, one leg crossed over the other and his arms folded across his chest in a particularly smashing imitation of a four year old throwing a tantrum. He took a breath, trying to steady himself, because in all actuality, he knew exactly that he was acting ridiculous; but there was just something about Alistaire's condescending tone that made him feel irrationally aggravated.

Ian opened his mouth to say something that might have been an actual apology (unlikely), or maybe he'd been just going to tell Alistaire to go screw himself (much more likely) - but salvation came in the form of a hiss as one the pods clicked open, steam billowing outwards. The front legs of Ian's chair hit the floor with a clatter as he stood up abruptly, his brother following him as the two of them made their way around a row of pods to the next one over.

He could hear a voice. "Hello?" Ian called, and then he saw him, just a short distance away, leaning out. Ian jogged towards him and held out a hand, gripping the man's upper arm in an effort to help him out of the pod more easily.

Ian flashed him a grin. "Morning, sunshine. Welcome to Deus."
