Personal bubbles were something he forgot about a lot. "I smelled the sea, and found you. I would know the smell of sea salt anywhere. Even started memorizing the 7 different smells, North Atlantic is still my favorite though." His eyes started to turn away and up, thinking on the different scents. He shifted his eyes back to the person in front of him, now realizing the situation. "Wait... Did I do something wrong?" He looked quizzically at her as he tried to recall what he did wrong, although the idea of being close didn't phase him, he'd gotten close to quite a few people before introducing himself. Was that it? "Oh! Um, I'm Akira!" He put up a half smile.

Though it did strike her as odd that apparently not only did the 7 seas have different smell but her new found companion memorized them. She blushed lightly and gave a friendly smile. "Well it was a bit unexpected, it's not every day one is sniffed by a stranger." she said looking down at her feet. Which is when she notice that for some reason the man wasn't wearing shoes. Certainly an.. interesting fashion choice. She looked up when he spoke up again, "Nice to meet you Akira, my name is Amaryllis." she introduced herself, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

Akira's smile returned, although not as brightly given the awkwardness he perceived in the situation. "It's good to meet you as well! You're the first person I've met in this city. This place is pretty amazing with the people you see, I forgot my manners for a bit there. So.... Do you like books?" He was at a loss for conversation, going back to the sniffing would be truly awkward, and he couldn't think of much else other than where they were. A bookshop. "I don't get to read much personally." He scratched the back of his head as he looked along the shelves.

She offered a bright grin and held out the book in her hands. It was a book on Asian recipes. "Well yes I have a good number at hone, but what I came out here looking for was a cookbook. See my cousin sent me a gift but I don't have any recipes to use it. I could've looked it up on the internet but there's just nothing like a good old book to reference y'know?" she explained with a laugh. She tilted her head curiously, "Oh you don't? Why is that?"

"Say I hope this isn't presumptuous of me to ask, but you wouldn't happen to me a merman would you?" It was the thing that made the most sense, she had met plenty of merpeople over the years.

Despite his ancestry, he still didn't think anyone finding a merperson was a surprising situation. That often bit him in the rear, but maybe in Soleil it'd be better. "You don't seem like one." With her frappe in hand, Carmina opened the doors of the bookstore. Taking her first step into the shop, she closed her eyes for as second, taking a deep breath. This is the start of her new life. There were a lot of doubts in her mind that she would land the job but here she is now, surrounded by thousands of books. There’s far too many for her to explore. It’s not a library wherein she can read them to her hearts content but being an employee here would make it much easier for her to have access to the books she would like to submerge herself into.
There were a few instructions that were given to her via email by the owner. She was not really sure what she was to do on her first day but somehow she managed with the help of the few staffs that were present at the moment. Thankfully, there were not a lot of customers at the moment. A manager’s job was not that easy but she can manage.
Finally, after all the introductions sat behind the counter right next to the cashier. She could look at the ledgers and list of suppliers later. She thought it would be a good idea to familiarize herself of their merchandise and where they are at. Knowing the traffic of people in a certain section would also be quite helpful for her to see what adjustments may be needed to be done. Nevertheless, if there was someone who needs any help in finding a certain book, she would try her very best to help them out, with the help of their list of inventory in the computer of course.

With that in mind, the somber male was naturally led to the bookstore, an enchanting place that had received his own presence many times before, although always in a low profile manner, as the law of silence dominating that place was sacred to the honorable youth, something that had to be followed to an absolute conduct. Thus, Hughes would enter the area with the usual calm stride, hands inside black jeans and their tight pockets, dark grey shoes and a fitting long sleeve, the traits of his physique exposed just enough for his chest muscles to be visible, and lacking any sort of shape on the stomach area, indicating his back was formally straight and strict, similar to that of a well mannered rich individual. Unlike one of those, V was quite humble, and unless his objectives had Mi-Yeong involved, there was no need for competition, or any sort of rush, to gain wealth and flaunt it.
In any case, the man stepped inside the bookstore with a curious gaze, expression lacking any form of emotion as his complexion was usually so neutral. Almost lifeless like face wise, the pale adult scanned every little book and tag along the way towards the very register, the woman there sitting the first staff member to actually catch his gaze, distracted as it was with legs moving in their habitual fast speed. Upon getting close enough, his elbows were placed on top of the counter without the body weight being totally applied onto them, the curvature of his back indicating the control. At most, Vermont would seem interested in whatever he was in search of. "Hey there, mate, can ya help real quick?" Deep in tone, lacking feeling, the voice contacted the employee, or perhaps even manager, with clear respect during each sentence. "Can ya tell me if there are any business books on special offer?" Quite straight to the point, the Captain's Deck's second in charge asked while staring normally to the woman ahead, his ghostly eyes in the possibility of alarming her, along with how he was dressed, but it would be a short scare, considering his good nature would convey itself as the conversation went on.♛

X❥XXXCarmina Moritaka ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ XXXXLocation: Bookworms XX ๑XX Company: None XX ๑XX Cash: $922.90 XX ๑
There were vast selections of books that were listed in their inventory. There were even books that were usually out of stock whenever she visited their local bookstore. This made her somewhat excited and at the same time worried for her own, as a manager should portray an image of a perfect employee. Reading books for her sake may end up tattering the pages and stretching those leaving unwanted marks. This will eventually lower their value which would mean less profit for their shop. In other words, in order for her to read them, she needs to pay for them. Her mind had that trail of thought as she continued to browse the list of items they have, attempting to possibly retain as much information she can for the time being. So when someone close, ”Oh.” she almost jumped in her seat; hands instinctively retreated to her lap from the mouse she was holding, her back straighten a bit that was previously hunched when she was still fully absorbed from what she was doing. This was the moment she was waiting for, a customer for her to serve. Somehow, however, she felt a little small compared to him.
The job offer was only sent today via email so she had no time for her to change into a more work appropriate clothing. For today she decided to pair her blouse with a cardigan and a heavy creped skirt, tights and a heavy foot with her Fiorentini Baker boots. Fortunately she was able to match it a bit in a shade of blue. Studies said that it somehow tricks the brain in thinking that the person wearing such color exudes intelligence; meaning she would come off as somehow who knows what she’s doing, well in fact she’s not. ”Business books.” She finally managed to say. As the person in charge she needed to show some authority, although her soft voice does not really help her much in that field. ”Of course.” Shifting from her seat, she took a deep breath trying to meet up his gaze. ”We do have group of books on sale however I am not quite sure that would suit your taste. Are you looking for something in particular?” Truth be told, she has not yet looked into that section yet thus opting to offer something different. She did have a few classes in that field so she knew a few books she could recommend.
”I mean… business… its quite a broad topic. Are you perhaps looking for marketing? Human resources? Strategic management maybe?”

At first, it was note worthy to hear the repetition of business books, but the truly important bit came after a shift in the seat, telling the man of similar position, albeit in a different market, that the books on sale would most likely not fit the possible conditions he had in mind for a proper choice. Nodding lightly at the end of her question, Vermont had to admit that there was no certainty on what product he was going for, an specific title or series, but it would be good to narrow them the options to a more selective point, the part of 'strategic management' especially proved to be an interesting spot. "ay, that last option sounds mighty fine, got anything on that lil' section?" Casually, Hughes asked in the usual monotone voice with only a small portion of a fading accent, lost to the years living in the area. One had to wonder if one day would it become strong again. Still, not a subject that troubled the young lad.
In the honest sense, his presence at a library could be found odd deep down, given the difference in what his usual routine deal with to what this woman's routine did. While the crowd must've been commonly silent, well behaved, focused on gaining knowledge or passing their time with a sweet read, what Vermont had were drunks, lost to the alcohol and to life's torturing ordeals, many as they were. Also, simple and meaningless fights over trivial matters, and the occasional puke to be cleansed from those tropical floors, the whole scenario made to match the beach outside. The only hope was that not many individuals would take the risk of drinking heavily and venture out into the nightly waters around the Captain's Deck. The violent embrace of the darkened waves could be overwhelming when the swimmer is nothing but a weakened fish trying to comprehend all that it couldn't. Taking such thoughts aside, afraid of getting distracted when talking to the one on the other side of the counter, the Captain's manager kept quiet, and responded to things as they were spoken, and directed at him.♛

But still, Benjamin's not spared from having to take his shift even with the fact that there were less customers dropping by with the advice to stay at home. The sales associate wouldn't mind having to camp inside if he had to, more so with the extra change of clothes and protective rain gear. Because of being attuned to water, being drenched would be the least of his worries, the capacity to bend the substance to his will being an advantage he could get, but he was no god, only being able to touch a small portion of the universal substance that existed in this world.
The half-demon was done sweeping the floor; crystal blue eyes were taking in the scenery of the clients who decided to stay here, at least until the rain would slow down temporarily. The usual routine of them checking out the books and CDs and then departing from the store was something he was getting used to. Benjamin's next task was to give the cashier the new roll of thermal paper. The cash register had run out of that stuff and it was best to have that replaced immediately. After the item was bestowed to the employee, he checked to see that the machine would be working okay, having to help out, until everything's ready once again.
Benjamin nodded at the sight of the thumbs up, proof that he should get started on the next step, to arrange the CDs inside the shelves. He hummed a tune as he checked which ones were out of place, before setting them back to their designated sections.
