If little balls of light could frown, this one would be. It zoomed up to Ares' eye level and vibrated there. Yes, slightly vibrated.
"Not even you can stop the natural progression of certain things, Ares! If and when that relic is activated, there is nothing that you can do to stop it!"

Ares stared at it. "...Then I'll keep it from being activated. That's an okay thing, right?" He was being sarcastic. As if he would really ask a little ball of light that he might even be imagining for permission.

"And how exactly would you do that, Mr. Tough Guy?! By getting someone to retrieve it for you and then hiding it on Mt. Olympus? By filling in the lake so that no one can ever find it?! How exactly do you plan to keep it from being activated?!"

He sighed wearily. "Jeez, what the hell..." Rubbing a hand down his face, he stared at the thing from between his fingers. "I'll stop whoever would activate it. I don't care. I just can't let it activate."

The little ball of light stopped vibrating for a moment, almost as if it were considering Ares' words, and then it rested against the wall opposite him. Yes, it rested against the wall.
"Then leave students out of your little mission. We light fairies and spirits also protect the students here, and you will not drag innocent students into your games, Ares! They will get hurt because we will stop you in any way we can from getting anywhere near the relic, even if it is to stop it from becoming activated!"

Ari pulled her ipod out of her ears and listened to the sounds of the night. She could hear an odd little noise, like a tiny voice a few yards away, as well as a man's voice. It matched the same frequencies as the night before, and came from the same place. The tiny voice could only be from a fairy... for they came out at night to dance on the lake. Ari had befriended a few of them, and she liked the little sassy buggers. Wondering who the man was she heard the word 'Ares'. No way! Ares?! The Ares? Normally, she wouldn't have believed it, but Musica had told her he was a half-God.... and with the faeries flying all over the place... well, why couldn't he exist?

"Damn, you're stubborn," Ares muttered. Light fairy, huh? "I'm not getting anyone involved who wasn't already involved. If you think someone extra is being added to this hellhole, then you can blame Evermore, not me. I told her not to include her little friend."

I love that Ari knows what's going on now! lol! Well, some of it. If she gets bored, she could always come over and visit.... hehehe. wink }}

In a flash, literally a flash, the little ball of light was directly in front of Ares' face and it was bobbing up and down and right to left in anger.
"You... You... You nincompoop in leather! If I knew it wouldn't bring Zeus's wrath down on us, we would all swarm you and..."
The little light's voice was getting higher and higher, and also more difficult to understand. It was starting to just sound like a squeaky toy.

Ares stared at the fairy, not talking and not reacting. This was really.... he didn't know what to say. He was certain, though, that if any dogs were nearby, they'd be going nuts for the pretty squeaky toy flying around in the air. He raised an eyebrow at the fairy. "Shut up, would ya? I can't even understand you anymore..."

Immediately, the light in the air stopped its frenzied motion. It just hung in the air for a few moments, almost as if trying to calm itself down.
When it spoke again, it was back to its normal voice... which was still high pitched but easier to understand.
"How DARE you blame this on Evermore! She is young and just a student! She doesn't know any better! She needs support and friends to help her handle all of this! We know that you gods wouldn't be able, or willing, to help her at all. So don't you dare blame her! She is coping as well as can be expected!"

Ari bit her lip. No guys in the dorms. That was the rule. What if the girl in the room needed help? Besides that possible scenario, she was bored... and that, as her mother said, was always a bad thing. She wanted to see this guy... or at least, find out what was going on. What was this business about an artifact in the lake? Shrugging, she hopped down from her window seat. She momentarily wondered about getting dressed, but decided that nobody would mind seeing her in her pajamas anyway. She felt along the base of her neck, and her fingers met a soft blue ribbon. On the end of the ribbon was a seemingly flat piece of silver. It was the most important part of her power, and she never went anywhere or did anything without it.
She crept quietly out into the hall, and listened to the man speak. She had to walk down three doors, but she finally located the one that seemed to be the epicenter of his sound waves. She hesitated, not quite knowing what to do. She decided the direct approach was best. Raising a hand, she knocked loudly on the door.

Eylios ((... Dammit, this is getting good. When can I get back in?)) {{lol! Really? Thanks, on the behalf of all of us. lol. Well, I'm sure Caroline has a room, right? All the rooms are on the long 3rd floor. She could be walking past Ever's room on the way to her own, if you want. Or Ari's. I mean, Ever came back really early. It's only like 7:30 right now in the story. Not anywhere near lights out, yet.}}

Now Ares glared at the flying thing. "Why the hell do you think I'm here? I'm not here to grill her for information day by day, if that's what you think. I'm here to--" he stopped himself. His voice had been rising as well, and he didn't want Evermore to hear him. Lowering his voice again, he sighed. "I don't know what I'm here for."
Apparently, he didn't hear the knock on the door.
