Well, has anyone seen the Chibi Party OAV? Envy definately seems like a girl there! Other than that I am convinced that Envy is a guy.

Envy was indeed male to begin with. But there is a problem with shape shifting charries. They can be transgender if they chose to be. Being they can swich from one form to another of any sex.
His origonal form was male. But his powers distory this. You can not class someone who is ambidexterous in ether the right handed or the left handed section of how they write, they can with both(As is the case with Ed) The gender is intertwined to the situation of the shape shifting, in essance Envy could become anything, male, female, a hermaphrodite(sp?) so you can call the person who envy was male, but personaly I dont think you can call envy ether really. Exibiting traits of both as well as changing between them willingly

I'm pretty sure the confusion of Envy being a girl came from before the dub was released. There were rumors that they were going to make Envy female.
There's also the fact that there are fangirls out there that do anything to badmouth Envy. (Poor Envy. ;-; ) So, there's that point that they'll call Envy a girl because he killed Ed, technically, and that he kind of wears a skort. 8P

Envy is a male... i first thought he was a girl because of his outragous out fit and english voice...If you wanna find out for sure if he's a guy watch the last 3 or 4 episodes

In the anime, Envy is a male.
In the manga though, Envy claims he is male, but he actually doesn't know his own gender (according to some questions that Arakawa answered x3.)

In the Anime we know he is a boy (because of episode 51).
We have yet to learn Envy's gender in the Manga. I still think Envy's a guy.

'k. ENVY IS A GUY. D: Yes, he wears a midriff shirt and something that looks like half a miniskirt, but he's still a guy, albeit a strange one.
Everyone knows--or should know, if they're at a certain episode--that Envy's a guy in the anime; however, like n o e l l e said, Envy is classifying himself as a guy in the manga because he forgot--but for all intents and purposes, HE'S A GUY.
Besides, is it really that big a deal whether he's male or female? He shapeshifts enough, anyway...
Oh and this is just a sort of afterthought. Was I the only one who always assumed Envy was a guy from his very first appearance? D: I mean, everyone's all "DUDE HE LOOKS LIKE A GURL!" and I'm like...no he doesn't. o_O
