Past Ever since she was little she grew up on tales of fantastical beasts and far off lands. Her favorite stories were always the creatures that came out at night time. As she grew up in Above she always drawn to the stories about the creatures of the night. After all true night never came to Above and top of that Isra didn’t get out to often. Her parents were judges and rather famous ones at that and they were always worried that a claimant wouldn’t like a ruling they handed down and would take it out on their only child Isra.
So Isra didn’t really socialize all that much. She stayed in their huge house with the nanny or servants and the only time she ventured out into the world was for school. It was why she absolutely loved when her grandmother came to visit. She’d curl up on her grandmother’s lap and her grandmother would weave up incredible stories about dangerous mythological creatures that lived in the land of Below.
Of course Isra knew that most of the creatures where made believe but it made being a sheltered kid okay. After all she could live through those stories and wonder what life must be like for them, what a starry night sky looked like or night fog, or even traveling through a graveyard at night. Okay that one kind of scared her.
Her favorite story was the story about vampires, mostly because she always loved bats and the idea of nighttime. So creatures that could turn into bats and only came out when it was dark? The fact that vampires often had red eyes like herself was just icing on the cake. Yeah they did drink blood and burst into ash whenever they were introduced to the sun but a person couldn’t have everything. Isra’s grandmother always had a special tale about a vampire family and how they adapted to modern world. Isra loved hearing about them. It was their own special little story.
Then things changed. Isra’s grandmother got really sick and no matter what the medical advancements Above had it was just too late and her grandmother passed away. Isra drew into herself. Sure they went to school, but there were no more stories and no more wondering what the night sky looked like or what her vampire family was doing.
It was then her parents saw an opportunity to move Isra out of her little self-imposed ball. There was a chance for a job opportunity in below. It paid more and it was a different type of law so the family packed up and moved to Below. Night time was everything that Isra had dreamed about. It was cooler, the stars where absolutely gorgeous and night fog was awesomely creepy. It was just what Isra needed to perk up again.
Present Even better was going to the academy, and her parents finally agreeing it was safe enough to go to the festivals. Her first one was the Haunted Hallows. It was here that sh could see all her mythical creatures that had featured in her grandmother’s stories. Sure they didn’t always have the magical properties in the stories or they were actually people in costumes, but it helped bring back fond memories of her grandmother. Isra, herself, even got a costume to run around in. she knew instantly what costume she wanted. There was only one clear choice in her mind. She was going to bring more of her grandmother’s stories to life and she was going to be a vampire.
It was her way of showing her grandmother, where ever they had moved on to, that she had made it down to below and that she appreciated those stories. Besides… she had always loved vampires and it was an excuse to run around in fangs.
