Hey there^^

How you doin? Family and everything fine?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:04 am

They're good, growing a bit faster than expected but that's not too surprising. They have been eating a LOT recently so I'm expecting a growth spurt out of the boys soon. How are you doing? still singing?

Side note: you and Maxi should come to Dante and get some armor, something to put the death knight to shame razz

I'd actually been commissioning you for armor instead of a weapon whenever I got around to it.

Only in part because everyone seems to go for weapons and I like to try and be a touch out of the norm. Kael could use some armor, be it full plate suit or just things he can put under/over street clothes when he wants to be ready for anything, but doesn't intend to march around head to toe in steel. That, and maybe I'm just not being imaginative enough about it, but I can't imagine much I'd give him in weaponry on top of his fairly normal b*****d sword and knife except a firearm. And he has no experience with guns, so he'd either need a lot of time on the firing range or something like a shotgun.

I'm holding off until I can resolve some IC things all going on at once and would maybe have some sensible reason for him to visit a smith he can't afford.

Edit: Wow I had some typoes to fix. I blame my classes blowing my mind, that and the fact that I woke up feeling exhausted despite having plenty of sleep.

Singing? Most definitely. Though my band's been really lazy. At least we've been recording our rehearsals for several months now so we can soon start recording additional guitar and bass lines....and me singing, 'course.

Otherwise, I started working in a bookstore at the beginning of the year. It's an apprenticeship, actually; some minor school stuff included =p

Aside from that I'm gonna apply to a few US universities in December.

o____o I'd love that. Have to see what Max thinks. But, in fact, I've designed a battle outfit for Lucind a while ago. We could work with it, if you don't mind. The corset is supposed to protect her ribcage from being squeezed or crushed: so it's able to extend, that is, give in to her breathing but features some sort of locking system to prevent contusions. The collar works the same way.

I still want to add some sort of short jacket, something that might offer further protection for the shoulder area.

And a detachable skirt...which, so far, has no other purpose than looking cool.

Okay...now I already went into details XD And maybe you had something entirely different in mind xp

Lucind: Awesome, send me tickets when your nominated for a Grammy razz As for armor, yeah I have a few ideas on how to work with that. Might need to use some unique skins and such for flair and protection... <.< *looks over at any potential hunters around* >.>

Edit: Heh I may offer some additional suggestion later but the core ideas are fairly easy to work with.

Hono: It depends on what you'd need... but I have a few things in storage I could pull out.

Pfish:I can do armor, the nice things about most decent armors is modularity really...So I think we could come to an agreement, and as mentioned above there's things that could be done to offset the cost.

I'm open for any suggestion ^^d

Well lets get to that point and I'll do a bit of research in the meantime. The only thing that catches my attention immediately is the amount of exposed skin. Aesthetics vs Protection I understand, but I need to do some research on the protection of the vitals in a flexible crush proof manner without going too high-tech.

EDIT: Id probably recommend a lightweight 'Lace'-Mail over shirt, and add some protection to the skirt to protect the femoral artery on the inner thigh.

Hmm. That's true.

You're speaking of something like sectioned armor where the more indiscriminate bits can be attached for heavy combat or left off for more casual/adventure-y type things?

Armor is something I've been playing at with Kael for a while now, considering he's somewhat practical, and seems suited to it. Just a matter of trying to figure out the constraints and disadvantages versus the additional protection provided. That, and a bit of artists view/character concept, preferring not to send him much anywhere but straight into battle in a full plate suit and helm. So far his lack of cash and constantly being on the move has saved me ever having to pick out much beyond his boots and gauntlets, though he has picked up one set of armor.

...I think I have to be rather careful about when I use Roxsohard's armor though, as it's as much a running gag as a legitimate part of the character. That, and I don't think it would be right to wear it except all together.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I mainly thought of her need to be able to move freely without any restraint and the protection of those body parts being essential for her vocal powers.
Since I'm anything but familiar with the real potentials of armor I just went with the minimum and chose something close to the standard amazon-like outfit, heh.

I would hope to think none of you think the Death Knight a laughing matter.

@Ed: If anybody thought so we sure wouldn't discuss effective armor to stand against the shades and the Death Knight.

"You're speaking of something like sectioned armor where the more indiscriminate bits can be attached for heavy combat or left off for more casual/adventure-y type things? "

Precisely.

Its more efficient for a smith to do it that way anyways, it make repairing and forging/casting remarkably easier. For you I don't see you going true/full plate, probably half to three quarters plate with open helm. It may be my misinterpretation from reading your adventures, but you seem to put a good point on flexibility and to go from fighting very rarely (if ever) in full armor to wearing full Plate in battle sounds like you'd be handicapping yourself which seems counter-intuitive to your fairly practical character.

What you'd want to start out with is a good set of full Chain mail for underneath (with a well made arming jacket), Plate Pauldrons, and Plate or Scale chest plate, and some form of groin protection (maybe some plate thigh guards) and Id guess a ridged helm with enough visibility to to keep you aware of your surroundings since I don't really see you as the lance wielding Dragoon-type.

Ed: Whose laughing? I was making a reference to the Death Knights Armor image, not laughing at it, saying I think I could do well to improve upon it.

Do I assume too much?

It is better to assume nothing.

Adapt to everything.

Well armor is truly only as effective as its weakest point, which in that case would be your skin. The hard part is just putting chain mail over skin is asking for problems... first of all a broadsword strike that embeds a row of chain mail into a wound isn't much better than just getting the sword cut without the armor. This is why chain mail is usually worn over leather or padded cloth to distribute the force outwards and not straight into you. So tbh that's not really a recommendation to follow, it will depend on a few things. Theres really not good clear protection for exposed skin beyond practice, after that well armor is a supplemental it will only help someone be better, it wont make them everything... So you may be fine with exposed skin, that's something you'll have to decide, how much flexibility are you are willing to compromise.

Ed(it): I concede the point on the basis of truth, but metal doesn't adapt well once forged. Making the suggestion in material context impossible (the armor once made can only be itself with its set properties, unless made sentient/aware.)
