Ganner dropped to his knees next to Halcyon and put his hand on his forehead. His fever had gotten worse. He had no healing magic and little training in healing and knew that all he could do was try his best to get the man to help as quickly as possible. People rushed over immediately at the sight of the fallen elf and began clamoring, asking if he was all right. Ganner waved them back with a gauntlet clad hand. "Give him some air." He commanded as best he could through his own exhaustion. "Fetch any healer or herb gatherer you have around here. Quickly!" A couple of the men who had rushed over to check on Halcyon turned and bolted out the door. Ganner hoped they were finding a healer of some sort. Even a hedge doctor would be a help, but nothing beats magical healing. Ganner pushed himself back to his feet and pointed at the biggest man in the room. "You, help me get him into a bed. Please." The man stepped forward without argument and the two of them managed to lift Halcyon up and carry him up the stairs and into an unoccupied room as directed by the innkeeper. Once the feverish elf was laid out in his own room Ganner headed back down to the common room of the inn, knowing that he would be of no use to Halcyon in any event. He wasted no time making his way to the bar. "I'll take your largest ale." Ganner said with some relief.

After Alister had entered the village, he began his sermons in the morning teaching of Moradin to those who would listen. There were a few who would listen, but many were too busy with their daily work, they could not attend. After his first sermon his listeners gradually became smaller and smaller. Troubled by this Alister went around and inquired about why they were not interested. He had learned that this year's harvest had been small and many times the crops had been taken or the fields ruined for an unknown reason. For this reason, more and more people had been taking to the fields to plant more crops before the end of the growing season lest they not have enough for the winter.
Moved with pity, Alister offered his services to offer them aid and giving them strength to go through their daily lives. With his help, the people gradually took heart that with Moradin's blessing they would have enough for the final harvest.
As he was helping some of the farmers, he could hear his name being called from his make-shift hut which he was using as a place to heal those who needed it. Stepping out, two of the villagers explained that two travelers had come to the village and one was gravely ill. Alister nodded. "Very well. Take me to him." he said as he followed them back to where the young man was resting. Going inside the inn, he noticed a figure at the bar drinking. Not giving him much thought he was brought upstairs to where the wounded man was being kept.
He knocked on the door and saw one of the women tending to the young man's fever by placing a wet towel over his head to try to keep the fever down. He nodded to her and stepped toward the injured man. She nodded understanding that he would now take over. Alister looked over him and could see that this man had suffered terribly by the sight of his wounds. He examined some of the blood patched bandages and the dirt on his clothing. Clearly this man had traveled far to seek healing.
Wasting no more time he asked Moradin for guidance in helping this poor soul. Clasping his hands together in prayer he began to chant in an unknown language. As he did so the pendant around his neck began to glow and slowly spread around his body. Transferring the energies that bathed him to his hands he placed his hands over Leon allowing the energy to transfer and heal his wounds. The glow spread over Leon's body and bathed him in warm light. The ones at the door watch with amazement as the saw the young man's breathing slow to normal and the tension in his face slowly relax.
Alister knowing that the worst was now over, he bid one of the women to watch over Leon and to give him food and drink once he woke for he would be famished. A young boy who watched the entire event that transpired could not keep his eyes off of what Alister had done and kept glancing back and forth between Leon and the monk. Alister patted him on the head with a smile to return to his hut and continue his services for the village at his hut.
As he walked down the steps he once more glanced over at the man at the bar who looked over at him after taking a drink. He nodded, indicating that he had finished, and without a word walked back outside.

Leon's wounds were no longer open, angry red and festering with milky green pus. They were now closed. Color returned to his face and the sweat soon cooled from his brow. He rested peacefully through the night.

((Actually, before we sleep through the night...))
Ganner took note when the men he had sent off in search of a healer returned with a dwarf in a grey robe. He immediately noticed the holy symbol of Moradin resting on the dwarf's chest and breathed a sigh of relief. Given that he was not wearing any kind of armor Ganner assumed he was a cleric. That was good. A cleric was exactly what Halcyon needed right now. Ganner continued to drink his ale for several minutes until the dwarf came back down the stairs and, after a glance and a nod in Ganner's direction, headed outside. Ganner tossed back the last of his ale and set a coin on the bar with a clack. The gold should be enough for the ale and the room that Halcyon was currently occupying. He then stood and exited the inn. Ganner spotted the Dwarf immediately and rushed over to him. "Hoy there. Cleric." Ganner said. "You saw to my friend? How is he?"

Alister turned to face the man who called out to him. Looking up at the man he smiled and replied. "Your friend is over the worst part of his ordeal. He should be fine by morning, but should rest to build his strength. I have requested some of the villagers to watch over him tonight and to inform me if there is any change that is of concern. He has a strong will to live. I can see that both of you have traveled a distance to seek help. Many who do not have such strong constitution would have perished on the journey judging by his wounds. He is fortunate to have you as a friend to lend your strength in his time of need. I don't think he would have made the trip otherwise."
Alister paused for a moment and then continued. "I would suggest resting a day or two. A hearty bowl of stew and warm bed calms the troubled mind and replenishes the exhausted body. Afterwards I'm sure he will be strong enough to continue to where ever your final destination may be." He was not sure how much of a toll Leon's pain had taken on his mind. Alister could heal wounds, but the mind and heart were things beyond his skill.
"Is there anything else I could be of service?" he asked.

"Yeah. You could come and have a drink or three with me. My treat." Ganner said with an easy smile. His relief was palpable. "Name's Ganner. My friend inside is Halcyon. And you are?"

Alister looked over the horizon and noticed that the sun was starting to go down. He saw that many of the villagers were now returning from the fields to their homes for much needed rest and hearty meal. He knew most would only contact him if needed so he decided to accept Ganner's invitation.
He nodded at Ganner's offer. "Very well Sir Ganner. I will accept your invitation. You may call me brother Alister. I am a cleric of Moradin, the All-Father. As they made their way inside he began to chat with Ganner on their travels. "So tell me Sir Ganner. What brings you and your friend Halcyon this far up north? Are you headed to Fireshear to seek your fortunes in the mines?" he asked as they took a seat.

"Actually," Ganner said as they stepped into the inn. "I came across Halcyon by chance." He held up a hand and gestured for one of the serving girls to come to him as he led Alister over to a table near the hearth. "I was on my way back to Luskan after having just split up with some friends of mine. I happened to catch a glance of the elf lying on the ground all bloodied. I went to him and gave him my last healing potion. Then I bandaged up what the potion didn't take care of as best I could." Ganner turned to the serving girl who had appeared. "Two tall ales and two of whatever's for supper tonight." Ganner paused for a moment. "And two whiskeys." He clacked a coin down on her serving tray and turned back to Alister. "Anyways, when he came to he said he wouldn't go back to Luskan, so I decided to head up here. This village is where my friends were headed when we parted ways, I think. But they must have taken off again already, otherwise they'd probably be here now."

Alister took a seat across Ganner who ordered their drinks. He listened as he spoke of his journey with Halcyon. "I see. Then Halcyon is very fortunate you happened to pass him. If you had not, I'm afraid he would have passed to the next realm by now. You are a compassionate soul to help a stranger especially one not of your own kind." he said crossing his arms and eyeing Ganner and sizing him up by looking over his aura which appeared to be soft. A good sign.
"It is rather unfortunate more do not share such a quality. I have seem much prejudice and injustice against those who are judged because of their appearance. I hoped to bring Moradin's word and justice through the lands who don't know him and that they may learn of his teachings."
He paused for a moment to think about the people Ganner mentioned. "Unfortunately I am not aware of such adventurers. I have been with the village the past few days. They did not seem to be in the village when I arrived so I'm assuming they had already pressed on as you say. Perhaps you can ask around. I'm sure someone had seen them off."

"Yeah, Halcyon got lucky on that one. But I can't just leave a person to die if I can do something about it." Ganner said and took a drought of his ale. "I've worked with all sorts. It's not tone of skin or shape of ears, height, beards, tusks, tails, scales, or anything that makes a person who they are. It's a matter of spirit to me. And heart. Anyways," Ganner took another long drought. "You're makin' me sound all sappy now. As for Moradin, I've heard his teachings. The basics at least. Seems like a right nice fellow. He's got my respect. But it's my lady luck, Tymora, that earns my scarce prayers. And as for those overachieving adventurers, well, I'll look into that in the morning. Tonight's for drinking. And praying to our various gods in thanks that we made it this far, and that there's many more tomorrows to come."

Alister chuckled. "Indeed. Perhaps we shall discuss such things another time. For now we drink to health and to the prosperity of the village's next harvest." he said raising his cup. "I have heard of Tymora and whom she watches over. May our Patrons look favorably on all we do." he said before taking a large gulp of the ale.

((Yeah, at this point I think we should.))
Ganner woke to the sun shining across his face, which sent a dull throb through is head. Ganner noticed then that he was lying in a soft bed. He glanced around and the room seemed very reminiscent of many inns he had stayed at before. His head pulsed again as he looked over and the sunlight spilled directly across his eyes. He must have had more than he intended if he had a headache from it, he was usually able to handle his alcohol quite admirably. Ganner swept back the blanket and stood, finding that he had fallen into bed fully clothed, though his armor had been removed and sat on a table. Obviously somebody had helped him to bed. Deciding that breakfast was now his priority Ganner left the armor where it was, along with his crossbow, but strapped his sword back on. He took the key that sat on the table next to his belongings and dropped it into his pocket, then left the room, locking it behind him. Ganner made his way to the common room and then to the bar where the innkeeper met him. "Hey, hope I didn't cause too much trouble last night." Ganner said. "Not terribly much. You and the dwarf alone drank as much as any other five men, but you kept it mostly civil even as you got more and more drunk." The innkeeper said. Ganner was sure they had exchanged names, but he could not remember what the other man's was. "Did I pay for the room I was in last night yet?" "Yeah. I had one of the girls get that from you when it looked like you might drink yourself out of coin." Ganner's eyes widened a bit at that and he quick grabbed his coin purse. It was pretty light. Apparently he and Alister had indeed drank quite a bit, and Ganner had said that he was treating. Fortunately he had more in his pack and a single gold coin went a long ways out in the middle of nowhere. "Well, how about breakfast. What's on the menu?" Ganner asked. "I'll have one of the girls bring you out some eggs and sausage and toasted bread. We've got some coffee to go with it too." The man said. "Sounds good." Ganner said and clacked down another coin, he was going to end up making this innkeeper rich at this rate. "Make it a big heaping plate."

Alister woke early to do his morning prayers as well as be up with the villagers when they began their work for the day. He was fortunate to have both his dwarven constitution for ale as well as a tolerance due to his time at the temple to make the Moradin Ales. Perhaps he was under the favor of Moradin and Tymora this day.
He exited his room leaving his hammer and staff and went to the usual place of gathering. This was usually the time he did his lessons and teachings as well as blessing. After the men had left for work, he returned back inside to have his morning meal. By this time the sun was higher in the sky and upon entering he noticed Ganner at one of the tables.
"Good morning Ganner. Good to see you up so early. I feared you would have slept in this day until evening. You took a good number of pints that would make even a dwarf a bit tipsy. Still, I thank you for your generosity. Your stories were rather entertaining." He took a seat across from Ganner and ordered a smaller meal of cheese, bread, meat and water.
Once the meals were brought, Alister thanked her and said a prayer before eating. "I heard Halcyon slept rather peacefully last night and no difficulties were noticed so I'm sure he should be up and about pretty soon." he said cheerfully.

"I hope so. Then we can figure out our next move." Ganner said between bites of eggs and sausage. Ganner glanced at the dwarf as he chewed. He couldn't help but wonder what a cleric of Moradin was doing staying in a remote farming village like this. There had to be something going on. Those that worked at the whims of their gods almost never did anything that they weren't guided to, to some degree or another. That was one reason why Ganner loved Tymora. He felt that his Lady Luck preferred to leave things up to fate. She might have her moments where she helped her favorite gambler draw better cards, or roll better throws of dice. But for the most part Ganner imagined she just enjoyed the show, doling out a touch of luck or misfortune here or there just to mix things up. "So, what's there to do out here for a passing adventurer? A few more nights like last night and I'm going to run out of coin pretty fast. Besides, a dashing swordsman like myself has a reputation to keep up. If I don't rescue a princess or slay a dragon at least once a month it makes me look lazy." Ganner said with a grin and not more than a little bit of sarcasm.

Alister swallowed his food and took a gulp of water before answering Ganner's question. "Hmm, for the work of an adventurer? I would say it would be pretty low. This is a small village after all. Other than the threat of wild animals, there's really nothing an adventurer would find interesting. Of course help is always welcome, but these are farmers so they cannot pay adventurers, much less mercenaries to take care of the problem. They usually fend for themselves."
"I'm sure adventurers and merchants pass by here at times and spend a few coins for lodging and food, but other than that, they don't really stay long. " he continued. "As for your coin, I suppose as long as you spend it well, you can last a while here. They don't ask for much and are willing to trade for more exotic things. Many of them have not ventured far to cities due to the dangers of the road."
