Nikolai stopped at the oven as he listened to Damien, nodding to himself as he grabbed the pot from the oven and pour some into a cup that sat nearby on the counter. "Well..." He set the pot back on the oven, cup in hand and sighed before taking a drink of the still steaming coffee. "There isn't really an easy way of saying it, its not like I can or would want to tell you the world is an ordinary place with nothing strange in it and no monsters that go bump in the night...you're being brought into the fold whether you want to or not it seems. The stories your Uncle told you were all true, at their core for the very least, and I'm sure some of them were...understatements."
He paused a moment to take another drink, his eyes focused at your chest as he turned to look at you. "Your Uncle was a Collector. At least that is the easiest way of explaining it. He stowed away knowledge and relics, and to me above all he helped people...and his legacy was meant for you, but its your choice; decide what to do with what your Uncle has passed on to you."

I thought about it for a second, and then looked up at Mr. Poplov. "Some of these guys were able to find out about me pretty fast. Whether I have the information or not they know who I am and know that I know at least something about all of this. I think the only way to protect myself now is to learn about them too. And uncle Silas passed this information on to me. If all he wanted was for them to not have it he could have just destroyed it. He wanted me to do something with it. So I think that's what I'm going to do. Something..."

Poplov nodded, "Knowledge is power, it can be a weapon and a shield. It can also be a target as I'm sure you understand. Doing something with it is important, just make sure it's the right thing...power also corrupts." Nikolai took another drink from the cup and set it down on the counter before walking over to Damien. "It is my duty to ward this city. Know that if ever you need help, you may call me." He smiled warm and friendly, "Know is there anything else I can do for you mister Hughes?"

"Well, a little advice on how to handle this situation with Ms. Sydonnis would be helpful. I don't want to give her the information. But she doesn't seem like the type to just accept my answer and walk away. I need a way to protect this information from falling into her hands." I said.

"Summer is a force you don't just stop, so you need to get that information somewhere safer that they don't know about. Which means you want to avoid being followed and you don't want to be seen leaving with it." He paused, "Summer is the nicer of the two, but they will get forceful. If you do decide to make a deal with them, be meticulous about it, be careful about it. Fae may have to honor their word, but they are experts and pushing the boundaries." Nikolai's brow furrowed, "I can't help you with the later, but as far as getting it safe and secretly out of there I could...also if Summer is involved, Winter will likely rise to the occasion as well, so it should be done before they decide to grace us with themselves."

"Actually, the information was on a scroll inside of a cryptex. I solved it and saw the information. But it's rigged to destroy the information if it's forced open. And I have it with me. I thought it'd be safer than leaving it unguarded at home." I said.

His eyebrows shot up, "You brought it here?" He quickly moved past you to the door and slipped the closed sign onto the window before resting a hand against the door and whispered under his breath. After a minute of checking to make sure his wards were now in place and solid he leaned against the wall and whispered a sigh of relief.

"I'm sorry." I said sensing his panic. "I couldn't think of anything else to do. Is it really that dangerous?"

"Yes." Nikolai looked over at Damien and sighed again, "It just there are a number of powers who would likely be interested in what you have. Most of them would not be so kind as to talk terms as it were." He leaned back onto his cane and walked into the kitchen, moving over to his sink and peaking through the curtain of the window that looked out at his front yard. "Knowledge is power, and in some cases that power is painfully literal."

"Would it really have been better to leave it in my apartment unguarded?" I asked. "I'm sorry, but this is all new to me. I'm trying to make the best decisions I can. But I'm pretty much making this up on the fly." I stopped for a moment and took a breath. "What do you think I should do?"

"No, it is probably better that you didn't leave it there, I just wasn't expecting it. Rather, I didn't realize." He sighed, "We are definitely being watched right now though." He gripped his cane tighter, "Though I have no guess as to whom it might be." Nikolai walked over to you, "There is one thing I have to know before we go any further."
He put a firm hand on your shoulder and locked his eyes with yours instigating a soul gaze.
(I'm going to have you go first, you know what it is, and I'm going to find out more about your character than yours will about mine. So take your time with it.)

Nikolai will find himself inside of an office. It is done in a Victorian style with rich wooden furniture and paneling. Book cases line all of the wall space leaving only a space only for the single large window which looks out on a snow covered cityscape. The bookcase are all filled with tomes of various sizes and designs and with items of various mythologies. A large desk sits in front of the window with a large comfortable-looking chair behind it. The desk is covered in a sort of organized mess with a computer, laptop, multiple notebooks and pens, and several open books littered across it. There is a large framed photo of Silas on one of the bookcases behind the desk, angled so that it is looking directly down at the occupant of the chair. Standing before the desk is Damien. He is wearing a suit and tie with a dark overcoat. His jacket is open, the tie loosened, and his collar undone. A shoulder holster can be seen under his jacket. He is holding an open book in one hand and a cellphone in the other. He appears to be glancing back and forth between the two, cross referencing or perhaps taking notes. Nikolai will feel a sense of loss, for Silas. He will also feel a drive, a determination, to seek out answers, to learn things, to find the truth. He will be able to tell that Damien still feels the loss of his uncle and feels driven to find out the truth of that incident, and also to find the truth for others as well, to find them their answers, and bring them peace, and justice where needed.
((Hope that's what you were looking for. Never really thought I'd have to describe my character's soul...))

Damien will find himself staring at a much younger looking Nikolai. You're in a wooden cabin and its snowing outside and there is a fire in the stone hearth. Nikolai sits on a wooden chair next to it clad in iron plate armor. In his hands is a gleaming silver sword and with smooth, precise motions he runs a whetstone down the length of the blade. Six shadowlike figures stand in a half-circle around him, watching him. You can't turn around, but you know the door is behind you and you can feel evil on the other side of the door as if Nikolai were preparing to do battle against whatever it is that might come through. His face is a picture of determination, of a man who will carry on his duty until the grave.
With that you're back in Nikolai's kitchen, he nods as if affirming something. His face shifts and its like stone, "If you need to, can you defend yourself?"

I stood for a moment, stunned. What the hell just happened? I realized that my mouth was hanging open and I was staring blankly at Nikolai. Finally I found my voice, though it was weak and faltering. "What just happened?" I asked, my voice little more than a whisper.

"You saw my soul and I yours....can you fight if you need to?" Nikolai's brow furrowed as he looked at Damien.
Suddenly there was a loud explosion from outside and the edges of a fireball could be seen at the edges of the kitchen window though the house barely even shook from the blast and it seemed unaffected by the blast. "Damn, they mean business they just hit my wards...we're okay for now, but we can't stay here."
