*Bard laughs* I was born there.

*Luke laughs back.* Well, that explains that. You grew up there, huh?

I did at that.
How about you? Has your family lived in Pennsylvania in your whole life?

*Luke nods.* Yeah. I'm a Philly boy, born and raised. My parents have a place out in the suburbs, but ... my dad travels a lot and every once in awhile he'd take us with him.

What sort of places did he take you?

*Luke sits back, a half smile on his face as he thinks back.* Florida, North Carolina, Texas... DC and Virginia -a lot-. All over the place really.

*Bard nods, thinking to himself that that's a pretty eclectic mix of states*
You said he works for the government?

Yeah.
*After a few moments of quiet, Luke decides that he may as well tell him. Bard's gonna hear about it soon enough anyway.* He's a Congressman for Pennsylvania.

Oh....
*he's quiet for a moment*
A congressman's son is kidnapped. I imagine your family tried to keep it under wraps?

*Luke doesn't meet Bard's eye. He lets out a breath as quietly as possible, and he clears his throat.* ... Well that was... one of the problems.

* Bard looks at him and then returns his eyes to the road*
Look, you don't have to tell me this right now. You don't like talking about your past. I know how that is. So, if you can't do this right now, that's fine.
But if I'm going to be up there with you, I need to know what we're going to be facing. If it's a media circus, I've got to know. If the police are bringing in anyone who looks remotely suspicious, I've got to know. I wouldn't push you otherwise, but if we're wading into a shark pool, I need to know.
So. Give it some thought. We don't have to talk about it yet.

*Luke nods. He knows that Bard needs to understand the situation, and really that's the least Luke can do for him. He takes a good fifteen minutes for himself and in that time, he gets his emotions in check.*
All right. *He pauses and turns to Bard.* The media got a hold of this early on. And you know how that is. Once those morons get in, they don't get out. My sister didn't see the faces of the guys who went after her. She gave the cops a description of the van they had, but ... the cops figure these guys changed cars before anyone could ID them.
I know the cops brought in people from Mountaintop and from all over Northeast Pennsylvania days and weeks after all this happened, but ... until they found me nobody even knew where I was. I know the cops took in guys out in Harrisburg, some people in New Jersey, and even a couple guys right around Philly - who had the same van. But ... other than that, they didn't have much to go on.

I like the way you've grown your hair out. You didn't have that much hair when you were 17, right?

I didn't. I also didn't have a full beard, which I'll have if I don't shave for the next couple days. *scratches his face as he says this*

You're reading my mind. No offense, Luke, but this is one situation where I don't want to be caught in the company of the prodigal Blaize son.
*he reaches into his pocket and produces a small gold eyeglass case. He hands it over to Luke*
Put these on. Can you see okay wearing them?
