Am I still a hero if the only person I save is myself?
~✰`★ ~ ☄Camil whispered a soft 'good morning' he seemed indifferent and enclosed. Casey wasn't a fan of that behavior, sure he had no say in it but it always made him feel unwanted, made him feel like the other person was uninterested. But he couldn't do anything about it. He couldn’t tell Cam how to feel and act, and Case knew this was just how Cam was, there was no changing that. Casey shook the feeling and watched as Camil's expression changed as his head registered what Casey told him. Case gave him a kind smile. "It's okay." He said Watching the smallest shade of pink peek into his cheeks. Cam apologized and Casey was getting a bunch of uncomfortable vibes from the guy, he frowned a little to himself. He didn’t know for sure if Cam was uncomfortable but it sure did seem like he was. The signs were there, tense… Case wondered if Cam wanted to leave. They hadn't seen each other in a while, Casey thought. Not since the hospital. He wished they hung out more, yet then again that felt really… needy? Yeah it felt needy, too clingy. Plus Casey hasn’t been feeling too well the past few days, he didn't want to get Cam sick or something. "Cam there's no need to be sorry. Do you want to return the book?" Casey ask, sitting up straighter. "Or do you want to find another book, I can help you find one if you'd like?" Case asked, cocking his head to the side, he wanted to help bring Cam back into his comfort zone. He took another sip of his coffee, setting it back down on a napkin he had set on the table for it. .☄ ~ ★`✰

When Casey mentioned that it was fine, that he didn't have to worry about it, Camil heaved a small sigh of relief, though it was still quite an embarrassing situation for him. Who mistakes a book store for a library?! Camil cringed, to which he eventually took the book back. This was one of the books from the library, and Camil would hold the music book on against his side, pretending that nothing has happened at all. "N-No! I- um.. I'm keeping it- I-I- um.. I thought I had to return it..?" Camil shook his head, deciding to drop the subject. Has the medication screwed up his mind, too? He frowned, though when his gaze met with Casey's kind smile, he could feel his cheeks heat up once more. Camil looked upwards instead, his cheeks lighting up like red christmas lights.
He still felt a tad awkward, a little unsure of how to react. He had no other purpose here other than to return a book, to which he thought was the library. Perhaps it was time to leave? Camil twiddled his fingers as he pondered. Just a little while longer, maybe he could linger around for just a while longer. There's no harm done, right?
"It's been a while.. Y-You sort of d-disappeared.. I didn't know if I s-should contact you-" he stuttered, and eventually pausing in his sentence altogether. His gaze flicked upwards, golden orbs meeting a pair of light coloured eyes. He remembered Casey mentioning that they were blue.. his eyes.
"You look horrible." he blurted out with absolutely no shame at all. It was the truth, and Camil felt the need to say it. "Are you.. okay?"
Am I still a hero if the only person I save is myself?
~✰`★ ~ ☄Cam seemed to untense a bit as Case reassured him everything was fine. That made Casey feel better, about himself and the situation. He was glad he could ease even a little bit of tension off of Camil. The brunette wanted keep the book and Casey nodded watching as the small blush hiding in Camil’s cheeks brightened and spread, getting deeper and brighter and more visible. Case could imagine the heat and had the urge to cup a hand against the mans cheek. He pushed the thought- no shoved it aside, biting hard on the inside of his lip to distract himself from the thought. He didn’t like doing that, thinking about people that way, it felt almost insensitive.
There was a long stretch of nothing happening, Cam stood there, Casey sat. He drank some more coffee, looking at Camil’s hand once his thumbs started moving. “It's been a while.. Y-You sort of d-disappeared.. I didn't know if I s-should contact you-" Camil stuttered out and Casey swallowed the large gulp of coffee he had pouring into his mouth to fast and got a weird throat camp. He cleared his throat trying to lessen the pain. He felt a little bad, he had a bad habit of… staying around? No that wasn’t it, staying close maybe? He wasn’t good at keeping contact with people, he tended to stay away and disappear for any period of time without saying a thing. Maybe that why no one was surprised 17 years ago… He looked down a little and muttered an apology before realizing Cam wouldn’t be able to hear that. He looked up at Cam, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m sorry, I hope I didn’t worry you.” Casey said, and he did. Really hope he didn’t worry Cam he means.
Camil bluntly told him he looked shitty and Casey chuckled a little cause he did look like utter crap there was so sugar coating it. Sure he had a nice shirt on but frick he was a mess. “Yeah i know.” He said, laughter still i’m his tone, he wondered if that was something Cam could pick that up? Cam asked if he was okay, he wondered if he should tell him the truth. ‘I cant eat, i cant sleep, I don’t know cam?’... No He didn’t want to worry him. This is probably a normal thing, maybe Case is just depressed or something, it’ll pass… probably. “Yeah Cam, I’m good just a little sleep deprived.” He explained, giving Cam a soft smile. “How about you, man. Last time I saw you you were in the hospital, have you been doing alright?” ☄ ~ ★`✰

Casey would sip on his coffee while Camil lingered around. His gaze would scan the establishment, and he’d seem a little intrigued at the sight of fictional books. Love novels were something he stayed away from. He never understood the meaning of love, how it was supposed to feel. How they spoke of the colour of the eyes, how they spoke of the sound of their voice. Those were things Camil did not understand, he could never understand. He tore his gaze away, eventually falling upon books that spoke of self healing, books that spoke of different types of perspectives. He walked towards one of the shelf, pulling a book that talked about the world of people who could not hear, could not see. He didn’t bother reading the sypnosis. All he did was stand there, and stare at the book, stare at the cover.
When he detected movement in the corner of his eyes, he would direct his gaze to Casey, who had begun to speak once more. Did he feel bad? Camil didn’t mean to make him feel guilty, not in the least. ”N-No.. I thought something happened, that’s all- I-I’m.. glad you’re alright..” Camil downcast his gaze once more, feeling a little guilty for inducing such feelings within him. ”I-.. don’t mean anything bad, really- s-sorry-”
It seems, Casey was well aware of his health, too. What has gotten into him? What happened? But instead of receiving a straight answer, Casey replied with a ‘I’m fine’, followed by how he claimed he was simply sleep deprived. Was he? Camil didn’t know, and he didn’t feel right to make him answer something he didn’t want to. Camil could only take his word for it. ”Really? T-That’s nice to hear..” he answered, a little at loss for words as he slowly set the book back down upon its shelf. When his own well-being was questioned in return, Camil would seem surprised, unsure of how to react, really.
”I was discharged two days ago- it was dreadful, really.” Camil heaved a sigh, seeming quite exhausted from being holed up inside a room. But there was something he was feeling quite blissful of. ”I-I-.. I made a new friend-! She-.. can’t speak but.. but she’s very nice- She even gave me- um.. Valentine’s chocolate..”
Am I still a hero if the only person I save is myself?
~✰`★ ~ ☄Casey sipped his coffee eyes open, watching as Camil meandered the aisles not too far from Casey’s desk. He watched as Cam silently looked at the book, examing them with a certain caution. He looked away from whatever his eyes were focused on and moved onto something else. Casey set his coffee down and leaned an elbow on the desk, resting his chin in his palm and watching Cam as he walked towards a self and pulled out a book. Casey couldn’t tell if he was reading it or just staring at it. But either way he looked… nice. The morning light was filtering through the drawn but slacking curtain and shining into the shop. A streak of light was brushed against his shoulder, you could see the particles of dust floating in the air around him, there was something about dawn that made everything look soft and the longer Casey stared the more he thought this was the best example of this.
Cam looked back at Casey, gaze directed at him. It caused Casey’s stomach to flutter a moment as bright gold eyes stared right at him, his silhouette seeming to soften. Casey felt the tops of his ears burn and he covered the lower half of his face with his hand, diverting his gaze to the other side of the store. Cam started apologizing and Casey frowned a little to himself. He moved his hand away from his face. “Cam you have nothing to be sorry for I know you didn’t mean anything bad about it dont worry.” He said, trying to sound comforting. He didn't mean to give the impression that his feelings were hurt because they weren’t.
Casey watched Cam’s face as he explained his ‘sleeping problem’ to Cam. He definitely didn’t want Cam to worry, he didn't need that kind of stress. No one should have to waste their time and effort on worrying, especially if its on someone like Casey, I mean they guy technically dropped out of highschool right before the second semester of senior year! He just got his diploma online 9 years ago. He never went to college and hes achieved close to nothing, the best thing he could say hes done is save a cat, or not let a few plants die! He’s pretty damn worthless if you ask him. “Yeah, I’ll perk up in a bit its no problem.” He explained to Cam.
Can started to explain to Case about his discharge and his new friend. Casey was happy for him, its always good making new friends and to have a good thing happen after a bad thing is always the best feeling. He was happy for Cam but felt the smallest tingles of jealousy bubble in the back of his head, he did his best to smother them because to feel that way was just stupid. He hated having crushes, not that he had a crush… He pulled out his phone and opened it. “Valentines?” He asked, more himself than Cam. Was it really already Valentines? Holy s**t was he out of it? He stared at the date. How did he not know? Was he sicker than he thought? He didn’t even know the date until now now that he thought about it. He felt cold, felt his skin go pale with worry. He gulped and shoved the thought away, he could worry later. He looked back at Camil, sliding his phone back into his pocket. “I’m glad you’ve been having a good past few days Cam.” He said giving Camil a big smile.
In the back of his mind he did wonder though if he should do something for Cam. It was the 28th which was pretty late for a valentines gift, maybe its be to obvious. But jsut buying some chocolates wouldnt hurt would it? Maybe he could make Cam some food, Case is a decent cook, but just the thought of food was making him feel sick. An apology would be best then. “I’m sorry I havent spent a lot of time with you lately, I should have gone to see you more.” He didn’t exactly feel like a bad friend but he felt like a lacking one for sure. Hopeless.☄ ~ ★`✰

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
The weather was slowly warming up. Spring had come, when he least expected it. He missed the coldness of the winter, but he felt it was about time the weather changed. The soft fragrance of flowers would fill the streets in a month’s time, and children would return to school after their winter break. Meanwhile, as beautiful as it sounds, time was slowly ticking away from Camil. His gaze flickered to the clock on the wall, and he’d stare as the seconds ticked by. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Time was running out, wasn’t it? When is his next performance? In two months? Three? He couldn’t come out with a piece. Not a single one. His eyes fluttered shut, and his arms fell limply to his side yet eventhough he couldn’t see, he could feel something digging into his flesh. Like a pair of gaze burning into his skin. He tilted his head to the side, his red ombre locks falling slightly past his shoulders. Beneath those dark locks, a pair of golden orbs would shine through, golden gaze shooting directly at the young man who was staring at Camil. Those set of light coloured irises, they always seemed so composed, at the same time, so distant despite the kind expression he wore. Casey was.. distant.
He always has been, hasn’t he? Camil realized that overtime. There was a wall, like Camil, that they refuse to tear down. There was a wall that guarded them, what they so stubbornly assumed, was ‘protecting’ them, when in reality, it was only a restriction. A restriction to grow.
Eventually, Casey directed his gaze away, leaving Camil to think if he didn’t like being stared at. Did he not like it? Did it bother him? Camil didn’t know, and he didn’t bother to ask. He’d simply let it slide, to which eventually, Camil would come to distant himself from the young man once his own self assumed doubts start to pile up. It just wasn’t like him at all to question people’s feelings directly, and perhaps, that was what always led to his downfall. ”Oh- Sor-..” he paused. There he goes again, spouting unnecessary apologies. That was what he was good at to begin with. Apologizing. His golden orbs refrained from looking at the man, focusing on the hands rested upon the counter instead. Why does he feel so distant? Camil didn’t understand. Perhaps it was simply because he felt awkward, a little unsure of what to do, how to react, what to say. Perhaps Camil doubted Casey altogether. He never really believed in anyone to begin with, and even up until now, he still doubted Coralyn despite how hard she tried to reassure him. ”Y-You know-.. I’ll always listen i-if you’re having a h-hard time..” he murmured, still fidgeting about. Perhaps he should get a book. Perhaps he should just head home altogether. He doesn’t know what to do.
In some way, perhaps, being admitted to the hospital wasn’t so horrible after all. If it weren’t for that, he wouldn’t have been able to make himself a new friend. Coralyn. A new name worth remembering. However, it seems, Casey wasn’t too aware that Valentine’s have in fact, passed. ”Y-Yeah-.. It was a week ago.” Camil scratched his cheeks, slowly turning pink at the memory of what happened upon the beach. ”I made her cry when I told her I hated sweets-.. I ate it all in the end- but it tastes horrible- it was.. sweet. But.. At the same time.. I guess it felt nice, receiving a gift-” he answered, not knowing how to properly speak to someone without hurting their feelings. His finger would caress the spot her lips once touched, and he’d shudder ever so slightly. What’s with people kissing him lately. His own sibling has been smothering him with smooches ever since he was discharged. Not that he minded all that much, Rigel has been behaving that way since he was a little boy, but for a girl-.. The last time Camil received a kiss was during university, and he remembered how disgusting it felt, but he supposed he wouldn’t mind if it came to the both of them. Somehow, there were certain people who’ve earned their place in Camil’s heart. ”I met someone playing the harp yesterday- I can’t hear it but-.. It’s really nice- She’s a very talented person.. I know it-” he answered, quite excited over the thought. What was her name again? Melpomene, was it? She was.. blind, but that didn’t stop her from doing what she liked. Camil admired that aspect of her.
Casey eventually apologized for not spending enough time with Camil, and the young man would quickly shake his head. There was no need. It was nice enough, knowing that Casey was fine. ”I-It’s alright, really.. I’m happy enough knowing you’re doing fine-” he answered, feeling a tad flustered than usual. ”I hope.. the past few weeks haven’t been too harsh on you?”
Ansgar was in the middle of searching a row of manga until he heard a voice ask if he needed any help, and upon looking beside him he noticed that he noticed a young man with blue eyes asking if he could be of assistance, "Hmmm, do you happen to have any of the Jojo's bizarre adventure manga? I'm trying to nab myself a few copies for tomorrow." Ansgar would then give the worker a friendly smile quite pleased that he wasn't making a big deal of the half-giant's imposing height.

Though actually, Benjamin was also feeling worried for Casey, but the brunette's company would be enough assurance, for now, at least. Considering that the cashier's mental health was something not to be laughed at, the sales associate may be giving out more tips and a listening ear sometime in the future. But right now, he had to help out the customer who asked for the latest copies of the manga. "Hmmm... I'll see if there was any." He heard that it was still a classic even with the passage of time, the fans being engrossed by it. Ben looked at the shelves to see if there was any stock left, and then at the employee area with stacks of boxes in tow. It took him ten minutes, but he showed up with a slightly crestfallen expression towards the customer. "I regret to inform you that there's no stock left. However, there may be other titles that you may be looking for, like Tokyo Ghoul, Fairy Tail and Nisekoi." That way, the customer may just go for a plan B, or even C, than just walking away empty-handed.

~✰`★ ~ ☄Camil looked at the clock, he stared at it for a while and Casey wondered why. He watched as Camil’s eyes flickered around, dashing back and forth, a small and erratic movement that Case loved to examine. He wondered what Cam was thinking about, with this he also wondered if he had any business knowing. Most like not. Cam looked at him and Casey looked away only drawing his attention back to Cam when he apologized, or at least began to. Case examined Camil’s expression, he seemed upset. Not really upset, not upset enough to make Casey scared or anything but just under the skin. Just upset enough for Casey to catch, but then again he was quite good at over analyzing everything. Cam looked down at his hands on the desk and Casey followed the gaze, taking in the details of the others mans hands. They were close, not nose to nose but Casey’s elbow was about 9 inches away from Camil’s hand and a boy could dream. Casey’s gaze went from Camil’s hand to his face. He seemed to be thinking about something close to heart, or at least something he wouldn’t want to say aloud. Casey closed his eyes and sighed, puffing air out into his hand, which fogged up his glasses making them impossible to see through for the next 30 seconds. His breath smelt like coffee with a hint of tooth paste.
Camil said something that Casey wasn’t expecting at all. I mean they were friends, good friends. They got really close that one night on the beach, at least that’s how Casey felt but Case always had a hard time expressing himself. He can hardly ever just say what’s on his mind, he always has to cover it with something or leave something out. But the sudden invitation to talk about what was wrong was tempting, maybe he could get closer to Cam. But what would he even say?! “Yeah, I think I like you and I don’t like liking people so please stop being cute and nice.” Nope. “I can't seem to eat more than a bag of chips lately and it’s causing me to always feel like i’m going to pass out in an alley and wake up without my kidneys.” No way. Nothing fit, he felt like he couldn’t slide any of his problems into the conversation without leaving his comfort zone. Instead he gave Camil a smile, soft and thankful. “Thank you Camil I really appreciate it. I hope you know the same goes from me to you.” Yeah that’s right, flip it so that the same offer is put onto the other person, that’s what Case was good at, avoiding his problems.
Cheeks turned pink as lips moved and more on the story of Camil and this girl that cant speak unfolded. Casey watched and listened, intently but with a bitter taste in the back of his mouth, just right under his tongue. Casey smiled at Cam, “That’s cute.” he said, referring to the situation of sweets. “Your a really nice person Camil.” Casey said because Camil was and he deserved to know.
Casey noticed something, slight movement, fingers brushing over a spot followed by a shutter. He knew it. He knew what it meant. He’s been kissed before, he knows what butterflies are, this is a guy who gets crushes on people as easy as dropping pennies. He bitter-sweet taste was now a feeling in his head, loud and pulsing. He hated it, he hated himself. How the hell could he be like this. He hated getting close, everything about him and relations is in the dark, once and never again. Its always s**t faced, so drunk you can hardly function. Its waking up alone and not knowing who you were just with and knowing that was for the best. It was waking up before they do and leaving the house leaving no clue who you were. So why the ******** did he fall for people like it was nothing and what the hell entitled him to feel like he can be jealous!
Camil started talking again and Casey snapped out of his own head and paid attention, he couldn’t catch the beginning of what Cam had said but he could gather that she was talented, so a type of artist most likely. It was best to be general here. “Do musicians just know how to find one another?” Case asked, teasing in his tone, a small joke throwing in to deviate from any toxic thing he may say. He head still pounded, Pedri was angry at him, most like for catching feelings so soon after… Casey didn’t blame him.
Case smiled and replied with a sadly generic ,“I’m glad your doing good too Cam. And yeah the week hasn’t been all that harsh.” Casey moved himself a little, leaning on the back of the chair and crossing his arms over his chest. “Seems like you’re quite the womanizer now, I hope your using all that stuff I taught you about star, sure you could impress a lot of people with that.” ☄ ~ ★`✰

Ansgar smiled and nodded at the blue eyed man when he said he would check for any copies of jojo, so while Ansgar was waiting he began to hum one of the openings to the actual anime. After a couple of minutes the Blue eyed man came back looking rather crestfallen, the man would then tell Ansgar that they had no copies of jojo in stock and although Ansgar was slightly disappointed he couldn't help but raise his eyebrows curiously at the mention of other possible manga titles "Hmmm, I guess I'll take the first issue of each then. Broaden my horizons as they say." Ansgar would then quietly yet quickly search for the manga the stranger had suggested.

It seemed that Casey felt comfortable with the brunet's presence, and that was one thing Benjamin was feeling glad about. The customer agreed to the suggestion of other titles and immediately searched for the first volumes. "You better hurry since there were only a few copies left for each title." And he was almost done informing the customer about the update when he heard a baby crying and a frantic mother was searching for the breastfeeding station so that the child would be well-fed. He spoke the directions in a calming manner after he comforted the toddler with some playful faces, inducing the laugh from the kid.

“Thank you Camil I really appreciate it. I hope you know the same goes from me to you.”
Right, of course. He tore his gaze away, letting it fall upon his dress shoes instead. Casey wouldn't speak of what was on his mind, and Camil wouldn't mind at all, though he'd feel a little bitter how his friend brushed off the topic so easily. Was Camil unreliable? No. That probably wasn't it. Casey wasn't obliged to tell him everything anyway. "Ah-.. T-Thanks.." and with that, the musician felt himself retreating back into his shell even more, shutting himself away. He wouldn't reach out if the other would not accept it. There was no need to embarrass himself, no need to worry over someone who was fine. Yet there was something about Casey that would make the young man worry.
Cute, he says? Camil shook his head. It was more annoying and troublesome than 'cute'. Sweets tasted horrible to Camil, no matter how delicious it may be. He hated the idea of sweets and desserts, how it tasted so.. sugary. The young man would cringe upon remembering the sweetness of the milk chocolate that lingered upon his tongue. He had no water at that time, and it was no surprise he ended up with a sore throat the next day. He did gobble everything down under five minutes. "Nice?" he lifted his hand while he pointed his index finger at himself. He was a nice person? Camil couldn't tell if it was sarcasm, or if Casey truly meant what he said. "No.. I don't think I'm nice. I keep making people cry-" his lips curved into a frown as he rubbed the back of his neck. How many times has that been? Two? Three? And for it to be the same person.. Camil heaved a exasperated sigh, finding it quite frustrating to remember, though he was grateful Casey thought that way of him. It was nice for a change. "But- I-I'm glad you think that way-"
"Why are you so stone cold?" "You're so apathetic."
“You're a really nice person Camil.” those words repeated themselves over and over again within his mind, which eventually melted that cold exterior of his as a faint smile finally broke through. Barely visible, though.
The atmosphere fell silent, and Camil would feel the slight tension weighing down upon his shoulders. Something felt 'off', a little dark, to be honest, and he didn't understand what exactly was the reason behind that feeling. Camil wasn't good at handling feelings, and it would be nearly impossible for him to detect the slight change in Casey's demeanor, the bitterness he felt. He wasn't even aware that his friend hadn't paid attention to what he had been saying at first. Perhaps.. ignorance is bliss, after all. "H-Huh?" he paused, seeming a tad surprised. "N-No- I mean.. I don't know. Maybe I'm just lucky? I mean.. I came across you, too?" he shrugged, unaware that he had spouted something utterly unnecessary. Camil was never honest with his thoughts, yet he would speak of it every time he was unaware.
Perhaps, life just makes you come across people you needed to meet, people that would teach you a lesson in your life. That was what Camil always believed, that everyone served a purpose. The good and the bad. His golden orbs drifted back towards Casey, noticing the smile that tugged the corner of his lips. He liked that better, when he was smiling. Camil almost couldn't realize the horrible complexion he had. At least this week hasn't been horrible so far, that was nice to know. Everything fell silent once more, but it was the sort of quietness that was comfortable. After a long while of standing still, the young musician finally took a small step towards Casey, and he'd rest his elbows upon the counter. Long ombre locks fell past his shoulders, his fringe covering a portion of his eyes. He should really get going, get started on his musical piece, yet for some reason, Camil felt that he wanted to stick around.
“Seems like you’re quite the womanizer now, I hope your using all that stuff I taught you about star, sure you could impress a lot of people with that.”
Womanizer? Camil didn't think so. Sure, he had been approached during the days he was still a university student, but now..? No. He didn't think so. He didn't realize it, to be precise. Camil was never really aware when it came to.. those. "Why would I do that? Why would I want to impress people I'm not interested in?" Camil didn't like that idea, of impressing people without an aim. What was it for? To receive attention? To be complimented? Camil furrowed his eyebrows, obviously confused at the suggestion he had received. "I think about you when I look at stars- You're the one who taught me, after all-" he answered, and there he goes again, saying something strange.

As Ansgar quickened his search he noticed the small laughing child, not wanting to cause the child to begin crying again the half-giant began to quietly sneak away.

The mother thanked Ben for the directions and she left the establishment with the baby in tow, close to falling asleep. However, the customer may be having a hard time with the last item that he needed to pick to finish the order, so the blond had to help out. It turned out that the elusive item, the first volume of Nisekoi, was returned back to the shelf in the opposite direction by a careless client who just left in a hurry. He picked up the copy and approached the half-giant, handing over the item to him. "This may be the one you are looking for, I believe. Some clients can be careless in returning their wares."
Ansgar directed his attention to the blue-eyed man and gave him a grateful nod as he took the manga "Tack, err I mean thank you." Ansgar would then grimly nod at the small man's statement about customers "Yes, people should put things in their proper order when they're done using it."
