Though he had that thoughtful look as James relayed his own story, like him Rennell wasn't really one to pry to deep into people's lives. Annoy them, yes. Pry in to personal things like how you got your bioware, no.
"Talk about the dog biting the hand that feeds it. But you know how it went on Earth back then, people thought things were getting out of hand and naturally, they go afraid of things." Then he laughed, shaking his head. "Believe me Moira, you'd be this cheerful too if you got a new grasp on life after a good twenty years of living like I did. Even after I got up here it still took those two years to get me in a resemblance of somewhat normalcy. The wonders of secondary artificial circulatory systems and none injections."

"Probably. but then again, living like you did I'd never been part of the service either. I've seen some horrors that gave me a rather serious outlook on life. one of those things that makes me a bit uncomfortable with knowing Jelena is going to be watching my MAPS session."
Tap of the metal fingers on teh table, absently doing the old naval tune of 'anchor's away'.
"So, Rennell my boy..what about you an Roselyn? ever thought about asking her out? you both getting along very well. she seems to open up to you the most, and that's saying something for Roselyn."

"Hey as I've heard it, Dr. Trevale is no stranger to things like that or in the ball park. Either her scientific mind will rational and accept it or she will simply be able to deal with it. She runs Echo after all, and they had their horrific problems that could be close." But no one liked to talk about that really.
Though he gave a chuckle, shaking his head. "Me and Rose bud? Naw...we're friends. Sure, she opens up to me but she's still rather fragile I think in a lot of ways. I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship or anything just because I wanted to be more than friends. Not that the thought hasn't crossed my mind a few times, but still I don't mention anything to her that might upset her in the least."

"perhaps you should. She has really no one but you. She looks at me like a...well...jailor woudl be the easiest term. I come anywhere near her she starts fidgeting and asking if she's missed an appointment or something or she just moves in the opposite direction. she doesn't relate well to anyone but you."
Then a shrug.
"Perhaps similar thoughts have crossed her mind she's just to worried about your reaction to show them. After all, wouldn't want to ruin a friendship, would we."
A grin.
"Maybe you coudl sit in on her next MAPS. I know she gets those done about what, once a month? see if anything about you comes up."

"What? You get a girlfriend and now you have to go play matchmaker because everyone else should have a girlfriend or boyfriend too? My my, quite the change there Moira, what happened to now pdas and you're promoting them." He laughed, having delight in poking fun at James about things.
"Though it's not just you that she shys away from. Belive it or not she does so from me as well sometimes. Yesterday I spooked her a little. Sure, she got over it quick enough, but I didn't like it happening in the first place." Then a snicker. "Sit in on a MAPS? That's a private thing James..."

"Bah. one date in the near future and three rather nice kisses isn't enough to get me that bad. I was merely making a suggestion from my observations. Not to mention I've watched Roselyn in her room from time to time. particularly when she shuts herself in for days on end. Just to make sure nothing..rash has crossed her mind or an attempt of."
A bit of a frown.
"I worry about her. Like it or not, from a strictly implantation/timetable standpoint, you both are like children to me. My augments are older, more militarily based then yours, and Roselyn..I don't know how she even survived that work. And nothign right now worries me more then to have the idea that Roselyn might even consider taking another way out. And there are times I wonder if that's exactly the kind of thoughts that go through her mind at times."

"Don't be surprised if that little bit warped your brain. Women have their ways with us you know. They can wrap us around their fingers and next thing you know we're doing anything and everything for them. Devious things." Though all said in that joking manner that was Rennell's poking voice.
He shook his head. "I don't think that she thinks like that James. I mean, I know she has her down moments and that she shuts herself away a lot...but I don't think she'll go a bad route. She likes being in Fleet. Besides...she's going to have herself a friend soon, Dr. Trevale is making her a little Echo companion as per her request."
Rennell once again leaned on the table. "Frankly, I don't know how she survived either. The work on her is so extensive and intricate, that guy must of had one hell of a good lab down there."

He chose to ignore the woman comment, since there's been plenty he'd had around his own finger in his time.
"That's part of it. her..echoish alteration. ever read fantasy novels? Elvish races are supposed to heal rapidly and be able to absorb great amounts of pain and damage. I wouldn't be surprised if that was done ot her sepcifically to make sure she'd survive the augmentations."
He sat quite still, you codl almost feel the bioware portion of his mind accessing data and going through logical processes.
"Explains why she isn't constantly bleeding when she exposes her blades. and a reason to give her such deadly hand to hand combat weapons alone. she'd be able to eat a plently of lead and get close for kills. free thinking, not prone to breakdowns or logic problems like a drone, makes her more dangerous. Not as easily made or massproducable, but a well organzied team of Roselyn type soldiers can do a hell of a lot on thier own, I'd wager."

Rennell scrunched his nose in distaste of the talk. "You think you could not talk about her like that, especially in front of me or her. I mean, I know you're speaking the truth but still, it's something I'd rather not touch on. Besides, Rose bud if safe now in the Fleet, and that nut case got locked up and his lab scrapped. There's not going to be another Roselyn." Which sat perfectly well with him in truth.
It really wasn't his favorite subject, especially when Rosey was broken down to look so hostile. Little thing wouldn't hurt a fly. She bluffed a lot but other than that Ren saw her as particularly skittish. Though he wouldn't be one to sneak up on her because James was right, she could tear a man apart. But he decided a subject change. "But what are you doing wandering around? You're usually occupied by this time of day with something or other."

"I am occupied with something, actually. Do you read the magazines that Joey gets from around here and earth..there was one that had 'claimed blueprints and secrets' about the Echoes and us. well they got something right, about me. something that no one is supposed to know by me, Jelena, and about three top ranking government officals. and I want to know how that information got leaked, and by whom."
A shrug.
"Not to mention I'm giving Jelena about another twenty minutes before I go see her. she was on sick watch last night, so I figure she might need a little break from an old soldier like me. Was going to see if she wanted a late breakfast. And of course find you and make sure you were aware that you were going to be worked on, and was hoping to get Roselyn about that tech worry."

"So we're on a stake out are we? Maybe it was just a rather lucky guess on the reporters part? I mean think about it, I've read a few of those and they make up some crazy crap, then they draw out something just as crazy and put it all together. People are only going to know that the article speaks the truth if you confirm it."He rubbed at his chin a moment. "Though I can see your concern, but I wouldn't' jump to conclusions yet. I mean, what with everything monitored five times over between Fleet and Earth."
Ren gave a smile. "That woman need a break from anything? She'll outright contradict you and you know that. I wouldn't be surprised if she was neck deep in something or other, or yelling at Donner who was causing her Echoes trouble." He chuckled slightly. "Rosey tells me about it all the time."

James gave a sigh.
"This system isn't supposed be known outside five people. and the bluepirnt they published had it down exactly as it works and is situated, as well as the backups for it. Someone told somebody. It's a system I've only used once on Jelena. and I don't plan on using it for it's actual purpose ever. not even if the president himself came here with a shotgun and put it at the base of my skull."
A look at Rennell.
"think of it this way. lets say your right, no one blabbed. they got teh most secretive system in my bionics right on accident. the people that do know about it, are going to wonder what else they got right. you really want the government up here snooping in every nook and cranny under the need to know for global security?"

He gave James that blank look of precessing a moment then nodded his head. "Then again you make your point. However, I don't' really know why you're so uppity about it, seeing as you used it on Dr. Trevale...then again you did say you weren't using it for the purpose it was intended."
In due fashion he looked around the plaza, watching a few different people. "You have any hunches on who to suspect first then? I mean if they're your blueprints than its either someone on Ingenuity, or someone really high up in the ranks on Radiance who is letting things out."

"Ingenuity wouldn't let it leak. it would make people more afriad of us then they already are. my bet is someone on Raidiance who was looking to line thier pockets with extra cash. First I thought maybe joey, or Rob. Rob I still suspect some, but Joey..he wouldn't give Jelena something like that, knowing he's a prime target for suspicion. and he's bright enough if he did do it, he'd never given her that magazine with me standing there to see it."
Then another sigh at the comment about using it on Jelena.
"I'm a one man fleet takeover machine, alright. it's a coin device that I can use on any computer or bionic system. and once it lands, I own it. literally. if I hit you with it, you'd be little more than a puppet on my string, get it? I was allowed to stay here to be a last defense incase s**t hit the fan. one use of this and the whole fleet is mine, on the right system. no one coming or going without my leave. you and Rose devoid of free will, able to injure or kill at my discretion. even people like Jelena, who's body is heavy in anti viral nanos would be mine if I used it for it's purpose. Now do you get why I'm rather upset about it?"

"Well that would make me rather upset to. I get your point...something like they, I definitely wouldn't want out at all, that's for sure." Then a shrug. "But if someone here is doing it then they have to be running something on Earth. After all, we eliminated money from the Fleet and for use on Fleet years ago. There's no need for fat pockets for Fleet business."
He took a moment to run a hand through his hair, leaning back in his chair with a slight adjustment in movement to his MATU system. "Maybe you could proposition Fleet Commanders to temporarily cut contact to Earth, see who gets fidgety and the like. We've done it before when we had problems and its worked then. May work this time too."
