"Nervous I see. Don't be...Jessica is the best, and she won't let you down. I'm more concerned with Roselyn. they think the reason her blades are getting sticky is that the system that controls them is getting too old and wornout. They want to see her at least once a week in case they can find a different reason..but it not she may ned major time on the bench."
Then James looked him over lightly.
"I was on my way to get coffee and something to bite into. Care to join me, and maybe relieve some of your worry? I've been on teh bench the most, and I know my team. Maybe I can relax you some at least."

"I actually mentioned something like that to her. She didn't seem too keen on the idea. You'd probably have to force her and with her history...that wouldn't be a good thing at all." And if they did try to force her to get overhauled, he would be the first to stand in their way.
But she reached a hand back and scratched at that shaggy red hair of his. "Um...sure Moira...I guess I'll join you." This was a little weird. "What? No patronizing remark on how I'm just being a big baby about all of it, and to shut up and go get what I need done?" He gave a slight snort at the thought about it all.

"There's a major difference between checkups on your M.A.T.U and getting a peice that hooks directly into your brain an overhaul, Rennell. It's the same reason why I won't trust anyone other than Jessica for the work I need done on my head."
He stopped at the machine and got his coffee, black, and got a hostess applepie. they were out of bearclaws. he'd have to report that to the refiller.
"It's dangerous. More so than your M.A.T.U because if somethign goes wrong on your matu work, they can salvage it. it might hurt and you've had your share of near death experiences...but your brain..something goes wrong there and it's done. there's no fixing that."
He kept moving and got to the teleporter, and took Rennell to Raidiance, and found themselves a table in the general foodcourt area.
"Jessica is the best in the field, and I mean the best. there isn't a bioware doctor alive that can outperform her in cranial augments and I made damn sure of that. the est of my team are also if not the best, in the top three."

Rennell had passed up all food and drink, which was surprising in its own right, but even more so because he hadn't had breakfast today. Stomach was too upset from being nervous to let him put anything in it. But he followed James around listening to him talk.
He didn't choose to speak until James had taken them to Radiance and they sat down. OF course he was a little uncomfortable in the more populated and busy Radiance, drawing his wings in all the closer to his body. Rennell picked at the tables rather scratched surface. "Yeah, I have had quite the run of death walks, haven't I..." Something he was used to but also a cause of what had made him fear the workbench.
"Even the best make mistakes thought. I mean, I haven't' been on the workbench since my last mishap...and as you know I almost died that last time, more so close to death than any of the other times." He shrugged lightly, shaking his head roughly a moment to see if that would straighten out what was happening in his eye at the moment. Nope, made it worse. "But I guess I have to trust her if she works on you all the time. I know, I'm just being really bad about this."

"Be honest with you, nothing in the fleet scares me more than that workbench. becuase there's is always a chance you won't wake back up. But it's something I need to do. I have a..position of authority with you guys. That means I lead by example. if I get too worked up to put myself on the bench, how can I expect you to do the same. You very well coudl have saved my life last time, Rennell. the systems in my head are very intergrated. keeping them offline for the time it might take to have created the nanos to counter by overload of bioelectricity could have caused serious if not fatal damage."
A drink from his coffee, and half the pie gone. He was awfully calm about that, wasn't he.
"In return, I'm giving you the absolute best team known to get the work you need done. In essence, you possibly saved my life, and I'm making damn sure to give you the absolute best possible chance to keep yours with a major surgery like this."

"My nanos are always ready and available. Useful little buggers." That got a smile from the young man, who visibly relaxed up some as it was, leaning back in his chair the slightest bit. What James said did make him feel a bit better all in all. "I guess if you can trust your top team then I can trust them too. I mean, I have Jessica right? Provided I don't start randomly gushing blood then I should be fine. I'll go to sleep and wake up good as new...hopefully anyway."
He sighed and picked at the table a bit before he gave James that look. That look that said he was back in good spirits and was almost up for causing trouble again. If not trouble then to annoy someone until he had to make his appointment. Hey, look who was here already. "So...Dr. Trevale?"

A small grin, after of course the roll of the eyes at seeing that look. play dumb perhaps, see what Rennell knows first.
"What about Dr. Trevale? Looking to get an Echo made to go with your oh so sunshiny personality?"
Another drink from his coffee, though at least in a good mood that Rennell wasn't nervous about getting this work done. or at least not so much. But the cup got put down, with one of those rare, slightly enjoyable looks around Rennell.

"Nah, I got an Echo friend already, I don't need another one. Besides, I was never that good with pets at all I'm afraid." He gave a chuckle, leaning on his elbows on the table. "You know what I'm talking about. Whole Fleet heard the contest and whoa boy the talk."
He ran a hand through his hair. "All the girls I've seen lately are up in arms, after apparently seeing you and Dr. Trevale yesterday, walking around arm in arm, sharing moments and the likes. You two are the latest gossip among the crews on all the ships. Not to mention I logged into the Fleet site today, to see what I would be missing since I'll be down for the day, lo and behold the news I find." Oh he knew alright.

That got a look. one of those ''what do you know exactly'' looks at the mention of the Fleet site..but the rest drew out a small smile.
"It was Joey''s idea oringally. I was merely going to tease the good doctor about a comment, one I''m sure you''ve read, and joey came up with the contest idea. lo and behold, one day and she had over a thousand emails. and not all from women."
He still shook his head at that.
"Well we had the idea to cruise the fleet, and give the impression she had laid claim. we got to talking about various subjects..and then she talked me into a MAPS session. That is going to be our first date, so to speak. and before you even think to ask, yes we''ve kissed and no nothing happened in her room."

"So the site was right, she'd laid claim to you. Though I do have to thank your little parade, because now I know which girls are a waste of time to chase after, seeing as they are infatuated with you." He nodded and then leaned back in his chair once more, crossing his arms behind his head.
"You got talked into something...I think I should go into shock, but Jessica probably wouldn't appreciate that." Then he gave James an innocent look. "What gave you the impression that I was going to ask those things? I didn't even know you were in her room or the kissing, but thanks for volunteering the information. So are you two like...together together, or appearance together?"

"We are together together, as you put it. And no, Jessica would have both our heads for that. mine for putting you in shock, and yours for missing an appointment. And I know you Rennell. you woudl be first to ask that kind of question."
A thoughtful look.
"Jelena is the first person in a long time to see past this. and really see past it. not ignore it."
Of course 'this' was his bioware, gesturing over it.
"Those younger girls..they just ignore it. you can see it in thier faces. they focus on well..my a**, or my chest, or some other human part. They always want to shake my human hand. if I offer the mechanical one they don't touch me. It's like they want me, for lack of a better term, breeding privlages."

"Well of course I would. I'm the messenger everyone wants to kill even when they shouldn't maim the messenger at all." Though he got that look where he wasn't being goofy and was actually being somewhat serious under all that happy. "I know what you mean." He stretched lightly then leaned on his elbows again on the table. "I mean, I know I'm more human than you but a lot of the girls on this Fleet seem a bit closed minded. They don't like to hold eye contact with me a lot. Sure the MATU fascinates for a while, but then they just get weird about it."
Then a chuckle. "At least you know you're good breeding material. That's something important in this day in age, since some women have gotten rather picky." He scratched at his hair again. "Dr. Trevale on the other hand, she's one of the most open minded people I know. You know how she is. Either accepts something and sees past it...or studies it to practical death."

"Oh yes I know about that. and she knows something else that only her and I know about this bioware arm of mine. You wouldn't like it."
A slight chuckle.
"As for the other girls..well that's life. one of the sacrifices I made for the military. I've made a lot in my time. which is why I'm not making another. Men trusted me, and women for that matter, in this program. and most of them died. The rest got off the fleet as soon as they could, prefering the drone filled army bases to seeing people that look at them like frankenstien's monster."
A shrug.
"You know...I don't think you've ever told me, why did you sign up for this?"

"Whoa, don't wanna go there. You two can have all the little secrets you want. I don't bug those out of people. Somethings should just remain a mystery." But he laughed and shrugged lightly. "Early days of Meta were rough...I don't know much about those first two years but things ran smoothly for a while after that when they all got their acts together."
"Sign up for Meta? Seven years I've been here and it's never occurred to you to ask that question or look in my file? Then again, you're not one to pry." He sighed somewhat and leaned back in his chair. "Well, mostly because I'm a hemophiliac really. Part of the reason that the MATU is so compatible with me. On Earth I had the most over protected life, mother would baby me to no extent and I felt for lack of a better word, caged." He paused a moment as if remembering it. "When I turned eighteen I put in for the Metamorphosis Project...it was...three years in I believe. Though maybe a little bioware and the like would help me out. Turns out it did me a world of good, the high amount of permanent nanomachines in my body helping. Believe it or not, I wasn't always as cheerful as I am now."

"Rough is definatly the word to use for the early days. But I know what your thinking, and no it's not a dirty secret. My C.O.I.N system has a secondary function that's not a pleasent one."
James listened, nodding lightly.
"Mother's get like that. Mine, though she was very old at the time, blew a gasket about mine. You see...I wasn't injured before this. I gave up my arm for amputation to get this because the military said it was in the best interests of global security. And it would show a great faith and support for the program. But as for your situation, at least it helped you out alot. though I wish they'd put in a cheerfulness control switch in you sometimes."
James finished his coffee, and gave a look at his bioware arm.
"This is a true symbol of a soldier's devotion to his country. and most people I see look at it like it's a monster about to eat them."
