Test 2: The Sore Looser

Dear Mr. Patriotic Steve,

I have recently become a member of GaiaOnline.com, and I love to write. I asked fellow Gaian Writers in the Writer's Forum to read a poem I wrote, but no one responded. Then someone came and told me I sucked with no valid reason at all! She/He simply whined about how stiff it seemed and how my vocabulary was too ambiguous. My poem was not at all as she/he described. What can I do to recieve a little more respect?

Test 3: The Ideal Gaian Writer

Dear Patriotic Steve,

No one on Gaia seems to appreciate my style of poetry. They give it one read and instantly call me 'weird' becuase they don't understand the meaning. They don't even give me any reasons for why they think this way! Then I caught someone using my poem and putting their name on it! scream Is there anywhere I can showcase my poetry without having it criticized by ignorant thieves with no appreciation for decent poetry?

YOu have to make this so hard... Now certain people have to switch over to certain other characters which are not their mules in order to answer certain questions. Sheesh... You think you people could just figure out which person knows who steve is so that we could get past all this.

Unfortantly your question was not phrased in the form of English. Thus, being that I am only literate in the English language I am not able to properly assess your question. Please delete, rewrite your message, and try again. P.S. many bothans died to bring us grammar. Don't let their sacrifices be in vain.

You can start by looking at this lovely thing I call a dictionary. It has wonderful definitions of ambiguous and stiff. You could also realize that he or she is right. Your whining to me only serves to prove said persons point. Were you actually any good you would contact said person and ask them to give you more tips on how to work around said problem. You can also gain a little bit more respect by shuting your mouth, stop typing stupidity, and listening to the regulars who control the forum with an iron fist.

Test 3: The Ideal Gaian Writer

Dear Patriotic Steve,

No one on Gaia seems to appreciate my style of poetry. They give it one read and instantly call me 'weird' becuase they don't understand the meaning. Then I caught someone using my poem and putting their name on it! scream Is there anywhere I can showcase my poetry without having it criticized by ignorant thieves with no appreciation for decent poetry?

If nobody appreciates your style of poetry there is a good chance that it is not a style of poetry. This being said, they don't understand the meaning because you can't write poetry that properly displays your meaning. On top of that, "OMG I want to kill myself" is not meaning. As for not getting it criticized by ignorant thieves. If they are criticizing your poem, why on earth would they steal it? After all, they've already found problems with it? Why would they take your poem, knowing it is not that great, and claim it as their own? But, there is one safe place to keep it, in your mind, and I'm sure nobody will miss it if you keep it there.[/red]

(These questions were not very proper for me to make fun of you know.)

Okay, fine. How about you try this "Dear Patriotic Steve" bit for an issue, maybe two. We (or more specifically, Kraeela and I) will see the results then, and if it is successful, you can continue it if you feel like it. Any other plans or ideas you had? We haven't done much for this issue thus far. And we're getting no submissions.

Which means if this continues, we're back to hiking through the mounds...

*shudders at thought of going through mounds*

I wonder why there aren't much submissions this time. Keep bumping it [discreetly]...someone's bound to want to post....

Oh, don't forget for the next issue, a link to the submission thread comes right after the issue post.

On that note, I'm going to scour the WF subforums just like the good old days....

So when do I have to have the political thing done for if we put it in this issue?

I need to get my procrastination charts done.

Columnists!

Star polishing those articles and get them in by the 25th! Free rum from Serieve to the early-birds! xd
PostPosted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 1:31 pm

Serieve, I left a note for you in the Mounds. Thanks.

Need to do:

* PM authors and inform them of our changes.
* Scour for links for the Neighborhood News.
* Remind columnists to turn in articles by 25th
* Vote for BOI [hehehe....poor Clavy]
* Jaho's Political Project
* The Mini-Shop thinggamabobber
* PM Hemp Fandango for the 6th Chapter of the Badge Brigade

Articles still needed:

* Jahoclave's Point? What's your Point?
* 16807 Remorseful Whim's Story, Damnit!
* Critic's Corner
* Writer's Aide. [we could forego this or Critic's Corner, since we have Jaho's Political Project]

I thought we were using the third one (the one that we skipped) in this issue. Anyways, it's in the thread, so you can just grab it from there.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:15 pm

biggrin Thank you so much Kraeela. I sort of needed that little hop to jump start.

Ms. Fandango has a thread where she hosts her fic, so I took the privelege of hunting it down and getting the chapters. ^^

Yes Jaho, we are indeed using the third one this go around. Your project, if due this month, should be in by no later than the 29. If due next month, whenever you choose to present it, so long as it is before publishing day.

>< Oh boy, I'm behind. A few things to bring up.

We have alot of chapter submissions this go around, and there's no way we could put them all chapter by chapter into each issue. My suggestion is that anyone submitting a chapter must also provide a link or a contact source to be published with the piece so that anyone who likes their story may continue it outside the 'zine. However, if the story is not too long and the author already has all or most of the chapters written, we can publish it chapter by chapter. But only one such piece at a time, excluding (for now) Fandango's fic.

Idea: Make a request feature for the mini shop thought, however that may turn out. Readers make requests and, if in our power, we fullfil them. I don't know if we could do it by individuals. At first, we could, but if there got to be too many, that's too much work. Example: Back to the chapter thing, if the reader does like a story but doesn't want to go to the website or contact the author to continue, we can do it for them and include it in their issues. ^^ If it gets cluttered then that's because they wanted it to be so.

I thought there was something else... Can't remember. Ah, well. Aha! And a link to our current submissions thread simply because hunting for it every time I log on drives me crazy. Thread

I have something that could work for Writer's Aide, but this computer doesn't bloody have MS Word ( stare ) so there is some editing to be done on another comp.

Or I could save it for next issue, with time constraints and such.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 21, 2005 6:48 am

Hmm. No edit button. Interesting.

It just dawned on me that it may not be exactly what you're looking for, as the past issues have veered towards the more, pardon the term, mundane aspects of writing. This is more about creating things within the story rather than the form/usage/style/etc. of the actual words on the paper.

Does that make any sense at all?

I see exactly what you mean, and I think that if you found the Writer's Aid sections mundane, well then so have our other readers. 3nodding Solution? If your piece is as you say, then it would be ideal. I'd suggest posting it in the Writer's Aid sticky, once you have it ready.

Another few issues to be brought up:

We have 0 votes for round three. That means our original plan, luring people to the guild, didn't work. In fact, it was the problem here. I propose to make an announcement in the coming issue, stating that an outer thread specifically or voting will be made and a scoreboard kept here in the original thread. A link to the submissions thread, outer contest thread, and guild contest thread should be posted directly after the coming issue. 3nodding

And Jahoclave's banner has yet to be made. Dev seems to be distracted, so we'll either need to post pone and hope she shows up, have no banner at all, or find someone to whip one up in a short period of time.

^^ And now I have to log off again. My days are getting fuller, it seems, or I am getting lazier. Next chance I have to get on for an extended period of time, I'll dedicate it to working on the draft and checking the ARU. mrgreen Ta ta!

Well the political project finished draft is available in the last post of the thread. So you can just quote pull it from there.

Whew, okay, rough draft majorly updated. domokun

Araia.Naishi, if you would let me take a look at your Writer's Aid article, I can decide whether or not I want to publish it in this coming issue. ^^ By default, I'll by using Gypsy Heart's.

Jaho, while incorporating your project, I did make a few minor edits. Nothing too noticable, but you can change it again, if you want to bother. # 3 of your column has also been added.

Kraeela! You didn't follow the posting guidlines in the submissions thread! gonk

Everyone, we have one poem and one fiction, not counting Badger Brigade. I'll be posting the submissoins for critiquing shortly, so we'll have to hike through or go scouting for more submissions. The moment we get enough pieces, it's voting time.

Oh, and the ARU is now completely empty. mrgreen

P.S. Why didn't anyone tell me I was being a complete idiot?! We don't need a new banner for Jaho's project! stressed
