Terminating the spell, Lenore watched the snow fall down in a glittering mass back to the ground.
"I just like the dark, the kind of stuff. I don't mean to like Shadow stuff more... I just kinda do." She said, then looked at her wings.
"The feathers ring a lot. Almost like bells." She said, looking pleased. Her face fell slightly as she looked at them. "But I don't know how to make real music. Like playing the guitar," she added, looking displeased as she remembered her failure.

"Of course you do, even babies know and they just bang pots and pans. And you might be trying to say is that you don't know how to. But being an Air alignment that's easy to fix"
The once whisteling music that was still playing between the branches turned into a guitar band and then into Beethoven's 5th symphony
"See? And I don't have any instruments!"

Lenore jerked in surprise at the sound of guitar music.
"That's amazing!" She shrieked, jumping up and looking jubilant. "Does that mean I can do it too? I don't have to get a guitar, I could just make the air do it for me! Wow! Wow!"
Jumping around in excitement, she grinned at Birvan, genuinely pleased.
"How do I learn how to do it? How long did it take you to learn?"

Birvan laughted a water clear laught at Lenore's excitment
"Of course you can. But it takes a lot of practice and a good ear to do it properly. Different wave patterns cause different sounds and it could easily take a whole dicionary to know them all"
"It took me a good couple of years, but I had the disavantage to have a screwy magic" he showed her the crystal "But once I got these it was a lot easier. But I don't think you have that problem"
"But why don't you try doing a sound yourself. Once you learn it it's pretty much the same"

Practice. Ugh. Sighing at the thought, Len shrugged it off. She couldn't get better at anything unless she worked at it, right?
"Okay...I'll try..."
Closing her eyes, she focused hard, thinking about the beautiful sounds Birvan had made. The air stirred into a soft breeze around her, growing stronger by the second. A faint jangling sound could be heard, like piano strings out of key. Her eyes flew open, the breeze still going. The jangling grew a little louder, sounding more out of tune. But still...
"I'm doing it!" She cried, extremely pleased.

"Very good, very good indeed. But here's a little hint, try moving the air in a circle around something. The sound will be more stable that way and you can use the object edges to produce tones more easily"

Nodding briefly, Lenore directed the air currents around aimlessly, looking for a suitable object.
"Hrm....OH! I know!"
Making a sweeping motion towards the ground, she let the breeze grab at the veiled object and hoist it upright. A mournful, hollow sound sang in the air, the winds Lenore had made whipping at the thin veil.
"Ahh, how lovely," Lenore said, looking over at Birvan, seeking his approval. "How's this?"

"A lot better..." he was now curious about the object. Somehow it remembered him something
"May I see it?"

"Um...."
Grabbing the object out of the air, Lenore hunched her shoulders and looked slightly embarrassed.
"It's kinda creepy..."
The sword was her pride and joy. She loved it - not because the skull and spine of the man that had tortured her family decorated it - just because it was a beautiful thing. She had a nagging feeling Birvan wouldn't share her joy in it.
"Okay. See?" She said, tugging off the shroud-like veil. The sword shone in the sun in all its glory, the skull grinning at Birvan and Lenore.
"This guy kidnapped me an' tried to kill my family a couple weeks ago. My mum....well, anyway... this is what's left of 'im. I named the sword Nevermore." She said, looking away in embarrassment. "I take it with me everywhere."

He felt quite some fascination by the sword. Yeah it was creepy and rather morbid, but interesting all the same
"Amazing job. The joints are very well merged together and it has a natural flow to it. I even bet it can bend like a normal spine and be as sharp as a razor at all times"
"Jabir's handywork no doubt. God that guy is creepy"

Lenore clung to Nevermore protectively, running a twiggy finger over a vertebra. The sword did in fact bend at her touch, the blade bowing and drooping before snapping straight again.
"He did a very good job," She said quietly, picking up the veil and rewrapping the sword. Glancing up at Birvan, she tilted her head to one side.
"Sounds like you don't like him. How come?" She asked as she finished wrapping it.

"I wouldn't say that exactly, it's just... he's not the same Jabir I met as a kid"
He looked at her and knew his answer didn't answered anything at all. Len had managed to touch a spot he always prefered to avoid
Sigh, might as well tell her the whole story
"He used to be a completely different person when I first met him 15 years ago. Shy, quiet and a bit nervous, always getting picked on by the other kids because he was different"
"I felt sorry for him and became his first friend. It was amazing how much potencial he had as a crafter. That sword is a good example"
"But because of an unfortunate accident things changed... a lot. He was forced into a completely different lifestyle that people hate, fear and loath. It was very hard on him to be forced to kill and scavenge in order to survive, he who hatted the though of killing"
"Then something happened that forced him to run away and live like a wild animal. That's when he changed and became what he is now"
"You ask why I don't like him. It's what he became that I hate, not himself"

Lenore looked down at the ground, a little sad.
"Oh... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked. I always ask questions I'm not supposed to," she said, though she was carefully filing away what Birvan had told her in the back of her mind. Picking up Nevermore and hugging it to her chest, she regarded Birvan curiously.
"It stinks when you lose friends. I've got a couple friends - they mean a lot to me. If one of 'em changed, that'd make me sad, too." She said, picking at the sword's veil.
"I'm sorry you an' Jabir aren't friends anymore."

"Pff. Questions are to asked and one shouldn't be ashamed for that" he ruffled her hair gently
"And don't you worry about Jabir and me. You've got your own friends to take care off"
"And now that you've made your question I think I deserve to make one as well. Are those wings as sharp as they seem?"

Len giggled, looking at Birvan through her ruffled hair. She nodded, holding her arms out and unfolding her wings for him to see.
"Yeah, they are! It's a little annoying sometimes, actually. Every time I try to put on a coat, I tear the arms off. Well, I kinda do that with everything... Mum has to buy me a lot of new clothes," she said, grinning.
