sweatdrop I will get a Writer's Aide article out sometime soon, I hope... Right now, though, I'm frantically preparing for my first big exam, a French oral exam, and then I have my Spanish oral exam three days after, so I gotta gear myself up for that, too. Oh, but I am going to see Spiderman 3 tomorrow (WOOT! Yes I am taking time out from my studies to go see a film XD) so that'll be a new review for me to write.

The stupid project-assignment is done!
Of course, that still leaves the three finals, two End-of-Course exams, the history test + memorizing the Gettysburg Address, and the regular homework. Oh well. ----- What should I do, here?

I'm really sorry I haven't been around, guys. It's the week of the musical at my high school, and we just went through Tech week (a.k.a Hell Week).

I don't think any of us have really been around these last two months. Lilly was is obviously ambushed with obligations, and I could say the same for myself. But I did finally get the issue published. It's even in the Current Issue thread here. Once we get the guild migrated, we'll also have to go about getting other people to change the links they have in their sigs/guilds/where ever. I just noticed that Deus Ex Machina has our banner very nicely displayed on their guild's home page. heart EDIT: Okay, question. I'm thinking of putting this in the submission threads from now on: Quote: What We Look For1. Fine Form - Please put spaces between paragraphs and edit your work.2. Substance - Comical or otherwise, we look for submissions with literary elements and themes and other artistic elements that make a piece enjoyable.3. Style - Whether you have an affinity for dashes or happen to use a lot of dialogue, writers with a distinct, well-developed style are almost always guaranteed a spot in the next issue of The Gaian Press. Good idea, or bad idea? I was thinking it would give people an idea, but it may also discourage people from submitting. Or, it may give people a goal to shoot for. Hm. This kind of comes off high-class, doesn't it? Sort of? Perhaps it should be re-written. What do you think?

We can volunteer writings from users not on Gaia, correct, provided they agree to it? (Not from FF.net).
The "almost always" is a bit off-putting; it also seems slightly weighted in favour of comedy.

I think number 2 might be a bit discouraging. What do you mean by 'literary elements and themes and other artistic elements'? I think people are likely to read those and think, I don't think I have any of those in my work...
And I agree on the 'almost always' and on the comedy. I have a friend who has a very distinct style and it drives me crazy. She just has this weird way of using words that's so annoying... So people with distinct styles aren't necessarily better is my point.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much, I've also had school explode all over my in the last week (midterms, mostly, which for an english major = essays). I was actually intending to post the issue as soon as I had enough time to sit down and figure out what I'd have to add/delete from it, but I just never had time crying
As for the suggestions, I agree that it's good to give some guidelines, and that originality and creativity is prized, but I'm not sure I like the implication that we wont publish something with a voice that is too normal...I know that's not what you meant, but I'm worried some people would take it that way, and be discouraged. Maybe something more like "we especially look for creativity and originality in the works we publish"

*kicks the thread* alright, the end of the month is almost here, lets get into high gear! Here's my to-do list, to keep me updated:
Review (Shrek the Third and/or Pirates of the Caribbean III) Column 'press chores (spell checking, etc.)
On that note, I also have two research papers do this week. Yay. Fortunately, that will all be done by tomorrow, so I should have time to get all my stuff for this month under way.

You know what, next month's column is going to be an image, more like a map. It will show the location of cool whip at the grocery store where I work. I still can't believe how ******** stupid people are to not be able to find it.

Finished the article! I'd really love it if people could tell me what they think.
Oh, and also, I have a question. You know the Bulletin Board? Well, I know a forum that's looking for new members, specifically writers since they don't have many of those and they'd like to get a proper writing community going, so they're looking into advertising and/or affiliating with places. But writing is only one section of the forum, so would that count as being writing-related?

Since they're looking for writers, yes, that would be okay to advertise, but I'd have to look at it first to be absolutely sure.
And I have yet to feel guilty enough to motivate myself to publish this month's very, very late issue, so I've narrowed my options down to these three:
1) Publish every two months. 2) Just focus on the guild and forget about publishing until it's in order and/or a new editor is found. 3) Go into an early and abrupt retirement.
At the moment, I'm between 1 and 2. So. We'll see, I guess.

Good, just don't start veering towards #3 :3
How comes it takes such a long time to publish? Is it because more contributions are needed, or does it just need putting together?

I think publishing every few months wouldn't be a bad idea...
You know, if you show me how to do it, and we actually have content lying around, I can totally be responsible for publishing it... As in, if everyone (including me) helps insure that the draft is progressing, I don't mind being the one to actually post the sucker when the end of the month roles around.
