Cleotha looked interested when Kanna mentioned her home. She wondered what kinds of things the girl had gone through and seen and what country she had come from. She decided to try to look into her memories later. For now, she replied, familiar with Casper comics and cartoons.

“For you to say that, it makes me wonder what things are like in your homeland, Miss! Oh, ahehe, yes, yes, you’re right, this is very much like Casper. I never thought I’d become a friendly ghost in the afterlife but here we are!” she chuckled, politely covering her mouth to hide her teeth.

“I used to enjoy reading Casper comics and watching the cartoons. I’m pleased to know that the series continued into the future. I hope to introduce my little ones to it someday. Just so they know not all ghosts are evil”.

Hearing Finn’s knocking and calls, she floated over to the door and opened it before moving aside and gesturing for him to enter. “Good morning, Sir. Please do come right on in,” she invited, curtseying. “I am Miss Kanna’s ghost, Cleotha Allen. And over there is Miss Kanna herself. She might look a little different than last night,” she said with a giggle and a blush.

Hearing Kanna softly speaking, she then tilted her head slightly. “You mean the former hotel owner out there? I don’t think he’ll be able to find him so easily. He’s been hiding for many years. If it was that easy, Rage Demon would have found the villain long before today”.

Finn jumped when the door to Kanna’s room swung open by itself before his eyes registered the faint apparition of a maid floating half a foot from the ground. She seemed to be friendly so he quickly recovered after the startle she gave him, greeting her before walking into the room. “Oh…Good morning. Thanks. You’re Kanna’s ghost? Does that mean you’re her friend? You have an interesting name, Miss”.

When she pointed out Kanna, he looked in her direction and nearly fell over in astonishment but quickly resettled before speaking. “Kanna…you’re…you’re pregnant!” he exclaimed in amazement, eying her glaringly obvious stomach. “But how did you get that far overnight? Wait…is that what Cleotha meant when she said she’s your ghost? Did she do this?” he questioned. “What’s going on?”

He then wondered how Saffron was doing. “Do you think something strange has happened to Saffron too? Maybe we should go and check on her. Then we can make plans for today”.

“Wow, well…what a surprise. I wasn’t expecting to see that of all things,” he commented, eying the full term twin belly in amazement. “Huh, did I just see something? It looked like there was a little bump on the surface of your belly for a moment. I guess one of the babies kicked or something. That’s kind of neat” he said with a chuckle. Being someone who was rather calm and laid back, he wasn’t too fazed by anything.

“Yeah. Though I gotta ask why the ghosts are making you pregnant. Did Cleotha explain why they did this?” he said. Thinking for a moment, an idea came to him. “Wait…does that mean that you’re possessed? If ghosts can possess people, then they could do that to me, as well. I’d better be on the lookout”.

So he could defend himself and fight off any ghost that tried to take over his body. “Okay, let’s go check next door. I’m worried about Saffron”. He agreed. Then he heard a terrifying roar from somewhere outside. “Yikes…that doesn’t sound good. Someone’s enraged” he said, not knowing it was the former hotel manager. He heard him shout something about never getting the hotel fixed. He felt bad for him. “Kanna, can you tell your ghost to send the rage demon guy a message? That we’ll help him look for the bad guy who burned down and cursed the hotel”.

So saying, he started to walk out of the room before stopping and turning on his heel. “Wait…do you need any help to get up, or to walk? That stomach is huge, if you’ll pardon my say so. There’s gotta be more than one baby in there’.

Once they got to the door of Saffron’s room, Finn knocked loudly so that she’d hear him if she were sleeping. “Saffron…Saffron, are you up? It’s Finn and Kanna! We need to talk to you!” he shouted through the wooden door.

Saffron gasped and jolted at the pounding on the door, quickly wrapping up her phone call. “Oh, Jaxon, Honey, sorry but I gotta go. I made some friends last night and they’re at the door. We’re gonna hang out for a bit today. I’ll talk to you more later okay? Have a good day, bye!” she said, making a few kissing noises into the phone before hanging up.

Saffron swung her legs over the side of the bed and scooted her bottom to the edge, finding it considerably difficult as she grunted and puffed. “Ooh, oof…huff huff…Mary, can you help?” she pleaded.

The ghost spoke in her mind “Certainly”

Then Saffron suddenly felt her body become lighter and she was able to push off the edge of the bed and stand as easy as breathing. Her belly maintained it’s smooth roundness, sagging only the tiniest amount towards the ground with the pull of gravity. She rubbed it as she felt a flurry of movements inside at the motion of her standing and beginning to move about.

“Ooh, calm down, little ones. I’m just getting up and starting the day,” she told them, snatching a blanket off the bed and wrapping it around her large self before shuffling over to the door, her tiny nightdress now pathetically scrunched up around her burgeoning breasts.

“Coming! J-just a moment!” she called on her way before she opened the door, turning red with embarrassment.

“Hi guys, I’m not dressed yet. I have a bit of a problem. Oh, Kanna - you, too! We’re both pregnant! I’ve been possessed by a ghost named Mary Thompson. She was pregnant with quadruplets when she died in the fire and got stuck here!” she moaned, trying to hold onto the blanket around herself. “I still need to get dressed and shower and stuff. I’ll be ready as soon as I can” she promised. “Who’s possessing you, Kanna? Can you believe the nerve of these ghosts?”

Saffron listened to Kanna curiously, absorbing the information. “Oh…well, that’s better than quadruplets. She has an interesting name. It’s pretty,” she said, adjusting the blanket around her huge ball of a belly to keep her state of undress concealed. “Was your ghost a guest or a staff member when she died? Mary was a guest”.

But the ghost of Mary Thompson acted like she owned and ran the world. She seemed more than a simple guest.

“So, you’re going to give birth to twins and I’m going to give birth to quads! This is insane! I can’t even think about it right now. I have NO idea how I’m going to explain any of this to my fiance and his family. Jaxon has seen me in video calls and pictures so far. He knows I wasn’t pregnant before all this, let alone full term,” she stated with some panic.

Saffron nodded at Kanna’s comment about her being pregnant too, patting at her huge, distended stomach. “Yeah…SUPER DUPER CRAZY PREGNANT!” she said somewhat hysterically. “As for being okay - I don’t know! How are you so calm about all this? You aren’t even the least bit fazed?” she questioned the other pregnant woman incredulously.

“Aren’t you scared about giving birth in this hotel with no pain relief or medical staff? And having to share your body and life with another person? And raising their kids along with potentially, your own?” Saffron asked. “I know I am. I-I still don’t know how to handle any of this”.

Watching her react to the kick from one of the twins, she looked at Kanna’s belly button. What had been an innie was now a cute bump of an outie. “Looks like it. I can’t even SEE mine. It probably popped out, just like yours,” she said, trying in vain to reach around the middle of her stomach to feel her popped outie but she couldn’t reach it. “Well, no use to stand here talking. Let me get dressed!”

Saffron then turned and waddled over to her suitcase, having to drop into a squat to open it and look for something to wear, only to realise none of her clothes would fit. “Oh nooo…my clothes. There’s no way anything is gonna fit!” she cried out.

Mary then interjected, speaking in Saffron’s mind.

“Don’t you worry about that one bit. I was busy while you were chatting to your fiance this morning. I have filled your room’s wardrobe with the most fashionable and pretty 50s maternity wear and underwear - all of my things from when I stayed here. It’ll be nice to wear my things again!” she crowed. “Maternity wear is expensive. Now it won’t go to waste and you can see what fine taste I have~”.

Saffron released a long sigh, “Well I did say I wanted to dress for the time period. …Thank you, Mary,” she replied out loud, before explaining to the other two, looking in their direction.

“Mary said she put all her maternity wear in my wardrobe from during her stay here. I’ll get dressed real quick and then we should go down to breakfast. I’m starving! The babies must be hungry as anything,” she said, grabbing onto the end of the bed and using it to hoist herself upright to a standing position again “Ooof! Whew! That’s a workout,” she gasped, rubbing her belly through the blanket as she felt flurries of kicks and movements.

“Alright, alright, I’m going as fast as I can. Just let me throw some clothes on and then I’ll feed you!” she said to her impatient belly.

Saffron ended up grabbing some things from the wardrobe and disappearing into the bathroom for some minutes, donning a light blue frock that draped over her bump down to her knees, along with some matching light blue sandals on her feet with small bows. She hurriedly did her hair and makeup and by the time she came out, Finn was quietly browsing his phone.

Finn looked up when he heard the bathroom door open and smiled at the sight of Saffron in the 50s maternity wear. The light blue paired well with her golden blonde hair and blue eyes. She had her hair up in a floofy, soft looking ponytail and was wearing a chunky bracelet and some large triangular earrings with rounded edges. Her makeup was even 50s style. After all, Saffron wanted everything to match or she’d look silly.

“Wow, now you match your room!” he said jokingly, as the colour scheme of her room fit her attire perfectly. “Looks like you belong here,” he said teasingly. “No, I joke, I joke,” he waved a hand to wave off the comments.

“You look very pretty Miss Saffron. …Well, I think the little ones have the right idea; let’s all go down to breakfast and get energised for the day before we put our thinking caps on. Maybe we should do something fun afterwards, just to help us relax and get the ideas flowing,” he suggested.

He looked at Kanna “What do you think? We need to brainstorm on what to do to start solving this curse but we can't think too well if we're stressed and Saffron seems to be, rightly so”.

Kanna forgot to answer whether her ghost was a staff member or a guest but Saffron let it slide. She probably had a lot on her mind, too.

Kanna did at least answer some of her questions and comments though. She was astonished at how cool and calm the other woman was about the whole scenario they were in, listening to her casually tell them how she thought she could handle it.

“Wow, Kanna, you are confident! I admire that. But you might not still be saying that when the contractions really kick in during the birth,” Saffron stated with a small giggle. “At least it’s not happening right now. Maybe the ghosts will know some way to help make it easier for us”.

She had then gone to get changed.

Finn looked at Kanna while they stood there, waiting. He nodded “You’re right. That’s our main goal. I have no idea where that evil ghost could be hiding. Or how we can stop his curse and restart time again, setting everyone free. It’s a big puzzle to me right now. But we’ll talk about it over breakfast”

When Saffron came out in her light blue maternity dress and 50s style, she smiled upon hearing what Kanna said, striking a pose or two for them to show off her look.

“You like it? I really quite like this as well. It’s a lot nicer than what I expected for vintage maternity wear. And Mary even supplied a nursing bra and panties. My boobs have gotten huge!” she said somewhat breathlessly, with a laugh, looking down at her engorged breasts, which were much bigger than before and full of milk.

She shot Finn a playful glare at his comments, putting her hands on her hips. “Oh, hush, you! Don’t say that! While I find it fascinating to visit another era, I don’t want to be stuck in the 50s forever!” she retorted. “I’ve grown up in the modern day with modern luxuries that I would miss way too much”

She felt her cheeks colour as he told her she looked very pretty.

“Well, uh, thank you,” the woman peeped demurely.

“Oh yes, that sounds great. I’m positively ravenous right now. If I don’t eat, I think I may go on a rampage,” she said. “Doing something fun sounds nice to take the edge off all this stress”

Saffron then heard Kanna begin panting and moaning beside her and looked over to see if she was alright, noticing her clutching her stomach. “Kanna, what’s wrong?” she asked, concerned. “Did you feel something?!” she asked in slight alarm when Kanna asked what just happened.

Then she said something that made Saffron almost fly right into a panic. The babies are coming!

“What?! Now?! Already!? That’s…that’s way too soon! We haven’t even talked about how to find the villain behind this curse and how to get rid of him. And restore time. Well…looks like you’re going to become a mother sooner than we realised. Uh…uh…what should we do? Don’t panic, don’t panic…umm!” She turned this way and that, her giant belly swinging side to side, hands flapping in the air, her thoughts scattered as she tried to figure out what to do first. She still needed food badly. Now was not a good time to be born, she thought towards Cleotha’s twins. How inconvenient.

Finn was a bit more level headed, knowing that most labour and birth could take up to two days. “Calm down, Saffron. Take some deep breaths. We don’t need you to go into labour too,” he told her. “Kanna’s not going to pop them out straight away. Since this is her first pregnancy, it can take a while before the babies can be born. Let me check online…”

He typed something into his phone and read it before looking up at them again.

“Says here that on average, for a first baby, labour can last 12-24 hours. The first stage lasts anywhere from 10-14 hours. The second stage lasts 1-2 hours and the third stage lasts 5-45 minutes. Labour is divided into three stages; the first is where the cervix dilates up to 10 centimetres, which is the longest time. The second is active labour during which the baby is born and the final stage is pushing out the placenta. We have time to prepare for Kanna to have twins. No need to rush,” he said before looking at Kanna.

“Do you want to give birth in your room, since it’s probably more private? You can walk around, try different positions to ease the pain and rest on the bed if you need to,” he told her.

Cleotha suddenly appeared as a clear, full body apparition in her maid outfit, floating beside them mid air.

“I’m sorry, Miss Kanna, this is all my fault! I shouldn’t have made you full term so soon. I’ll go and find some midwife ghosts to help you give birth to my twins safely. I remember there were some staying at the hotel when it burnt down. I’ll be back as soon as I can!” she promised, leaning down to place both hands on Kanna’s belly and talk to the twin boys. “You two be nice to Miss Kanna, alright. Go easy on her till I come back with midwives and medicine”.

Finn was looking up more information online, seeing what was needed for a ‘home birth’.

“Well, this is really happening! Looks like we have to switch things up. Saffron, you go get food for us and bring it back to Kanna’s room. Kanna will need her energy for this. I’ll run and grab supplies needed for a home birth and see if the Boo Brothers can help me gather them”

He turned to Kanna, gently taking her hand and giving it a light squeeze.

“Kanna, hang in there, we’ll get stuff to help you through this. So, for now, maybe just wait in your room,” he told her. “I’ll come and lend a helping hand, okay, so don’t be scared. You don’t have to go through this alone,” he promised. “We, your friends, are here”.

Finn then looked at Cleotha the ghost maid.

“Cleotha, thank you, can you call the Boo Brothers for me? I need their help. I have a list of the stuff we need right here on my phone - old sheets and towels, warm water, rubbish bags, a bucket, snacks, cold drinking water, cloths or rags to wipe and clean with…the midwives will bring the rest, hopefully. Since we can’t really call a doctor or the hospital…!”. Finn said, trying to quash the wave of worry that threatened to rise up and overtake his rational thinking. He had to stay calm and collected to help Kanna through this. The poor girl. Finn took a few deep breaths of his own, counting to five on intake and outtake.

Cleotha removed her hands from Kanna’s belly after rubbing it to try and settle the babies, nodding at Finn’s request. “Certainly. I’ll call them for you right now. Oi! Boo Brothers - we need your help. Can you go with Sir Finn to gather some supplies needed for a home birth for Miss Kanna? And bring them to her room” she asked, using the link she had with other ghosts to talk to the three brothers.

Mary the ghost suddenly appeared next to Cleotha as well, joining in the conversation as she revealed her true appearance to the humans. “I brought lots of baby items and maternity stuff in my luggage. I’ll bring them to Kanna’s room. Those babies are gonna need diapers and blankies. I even have some baby bassinets”.

“Okay, I’ll be back as soon as I can”.

Saffron waddled out of Kanna’s room, struggling a bit to fit through the doorway before making her way to the elevators and catching one down to the ground floor, nervously standing still in the moving box as she sweated over the idea of being too heavy for the elevator before remembering how much heavy luggage the bellhop ghosts piled onto carts and took up and down in these things to drop off at people’s rooms. They would definitely weigh more than her.

She stepped off the elevator and hustled along to the ground floor cafe. Saffron asked the ghosts there for some food containers and breakfast foods, her mouth watering at the aromas of fresh coffee and bakery goods. When Saffron told them the situation, the waitresses were more than happy to oblige, filling up cardboard containers with plenty of meals and snacks as well as giving her a bag of drinks along with more food. She took all the bags and trundled back to the elevators, pushing the button to their floor and getting inside with everything, some of it perched atop her belly as she used it as a makeshift table. As she left, she could hear the waitress ghosts buzzing with excitement, talking about how one of the ghosts got a mortal to give birth. She hoped the gossip wouldn’t spread too far. But knowing how rare and exciting of an event it must be to the ghost employees and guests, the whole hotel would probably know by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, Mary got two of her bassinets, also sometimes called Moses baskets, out of hotel storage along with her bag of baby items, making them float in the air as she hovered along staircases and hallways, bringing the entourage of floating items along with her apparition.

When she reached the door to Kanna’s room, she used her ghost powers to unlock and swing it open, gliding in first before turning around and raising her hands, conducting the floating baskets into the room and setting them against the wall beside Kanna’s bed, letting the overstuffed diaper bag settle in between them.

Inside it, there were changing mats, diapers, prefolds/boosters, baby oil and powder, soft cloths for cleaning baby with water, rash cream, woollen and rubber pants to go over the top of diapers, safety pins, baby blankets and clothes, pacifiers and more. The two Moses baskets each had handles to pick them up and move them if need be and were both fully covered in beautiful light blue and white bedding with frills and little bows.

Cleotha made good on her word and flew out of the room in a hurry, rushing straight through walls, floors, ceilings and doors as she called around for the midwife ghosts who were somewhere in the hotel.

Once she found them, it didn’t take her long to explain Kanna’s state of affairs and the two agreed to come and help with the labour and delivery. Their regular clothing morphed into clean uniforms and their bags of medicine and implements materialised at their beckoning. The pair seemed excited and jumped at the chance to be able to perform their role and duties again, as they had in life, drifting along behind Cleotha, who led the way back to the young lady’s room.

The maid entered the room first and saw Mary standing at the far wall and politely waved to her before floating over to Kanna’s side, the midwives floating along next to her. “Miss Kanna, I’ve brought the midwives. These ladies are Peggy and Cindy. They have medicine and they’ll help you with the labour and delivery”.

Peggy and Cindy waved and smiled.

“Hello. Nice to meet you, Miss Kanna. I’m Peggy”

“And I’m Cindy. We’re more than happy to assist you today. We haven’t had any babies to deliver for 80 years so we’re a little excited!” she giggled.

Hearing what Kanna said about removing her bottoms, Midwife Peggy disappeared and reappeared at the other side of the bed.

“That’s a good idea. You can’t give birth with those in the way, though you’ve got a while yet. We’ll just take those off, along with your panties. Hold on a moment, Honey, I have a hospital gown here. It’ll be much more comfortable to wear than your current clothing during labour pains”.

Cindy used her ghost powers to lift a sheet up around the bed, shielding Kanna from view of everyone else. The two midwives then pulled off Kanna’s clothing and dressed her in the cotton hospital gown before putting the sheet back down. “I bet you didn’t think you’d be giving birth today!,” Cindy said with a chuckle.

Cleotha looked at her. “Considering she only became pregnant yesterday!” the maid added. “I was too overzealous with growing the pregnancy last night, so now…here we are,” she admitted, looking embarrassed.

“Oh well, don’t beat yourself up about it, Miss Cleotha. You’ve been waiting 80 years, after all! A birth is a reason to celebrate. Congratulations! You’ll be able to meet your twins sometime this afternoon or tonight, most likely, if this labour goes like most first time mothers do”.

Peggy turned her attention to their patient, coming up beside Kanna’s head near the top of the bed and smiling warmly at her.

“Kanna, Dear, you’re in the early stages of labour right now. You’re probably having what feels like bad menstrual cramps or a dull ache in the lower back or abdomen, yes? Those are very early contractions. They’ll get stronger and closer together the more time goes on, which is a good thing. That’s what we want. But don’t fret - we’ll be here with you the entire time. And we have plenty of pain medication and advice to offer. We won’t let you suffer too much,” she joked in a gentle yet cheerful tone, giving Kanna a playful wink.

Cindy also spoke up. “That’s right. You’re in good hands. We’ve delivered lots of babies over the years. Now, would you like a nice heat pack to place on your back or tummy? Walking around, swaying, rocking, massage and changing positions can all help to ease the labour pains as well. It’s not good to lie down the entire time. You’ve got to keep moving!” she said, making small jogging motions on the spot.

“We can give you gas and air when they get more intense. A warm bath or shower can help ease pain too. Myself and Peggy can also provide pain relieving massage. We can do deep breathing exercises, put on some nice, relaxing, soft music to have playing in the background, help you visualise a calming image, distract and encourage you…all sorts of things!” she said kindly. “And if it all gets too much, we can give you the twilight sleep; a mix of morphine and scopolamine”

Peggy then spoke up from the other side of the bed. “Now, Sweetie, has your water broken at all yet? Do you mind if we check down there to see what’s going on? I don’t think we’ll see much activity until later in the day, to be honest. These things take time, as do all good things,” she informed her with a kind smile. “We don’t want to rush because then you get tears”

Finn heard the Boo Brothers talking so he went looking for them. Once he found the trio beside a broken grandfather clock in a hallway, he held up his phone to show them the list of what they needed.

“Boo Brothers, I found you! Can you three help me gather some items for Kanna’s home birth here at the hotel? We need old sheets and towels, buckets of warm and cold water, rubbish bags, a basin, some cloths or rags. Or maybe you guys can show me where that stuff is. Cleotha already went to fetch the midwife ghosts. But we still need to bring the other stuff for her. Mary is bringing stuff for the babies that are coming and Saffron is bringing food, snacks and drinks to keep up everyone’s energy”.

Saffron knocked on the door to Kanna’s room and then entered, bringing in the paper bags that were stacked with food and drinks, the tasty aromas wafting around. “I’m back! I have cold drinks, snacks and meals for us all” she announced, sounding puffed but cheerful at having completed her mission.

She saw Kanna lying on her bed wearing a hospital gown “What would you like for breakfast, Kanna? The waitresses at the cafe gave me a bit of everything. We have toast, bacon and eggs, sausages, muffins, cereal, the works!”
