(it is no problem : D)

Juno didn't know what that something could be, or maybe it was the opposite, maybe she knew just enough. After all, she never talked to people, never made relationships outside of people who wanted commissions or to publish her work. But for some reasons Sloane was different, she was holding conversations with Sloane, and she even promised to come to a masquerade with Sloane, one that she was ill prepared for and knew that she was be ridiculed for on arrival. But she still did it and here she was... But still the thing that differentiated Sloane from all the other girls here, was that she had a crush on her, and that was a very big thing. But Sloane couldn't know that right? Not just from the pictures? Juno was that transparent was she? "What is it that you see?" Juno asked quietly almost afraid of what the answer could be. "A kindred spirit." Juno mumbled to herself. But you are so much.....more"

Sloane blinked. "More?" she repeated, confused by Juno's choice of words. "More than what? Than you?" Sloane shook her head. "I disagree." What Juno thought was Sloane wasn't Sloane. When she discovered the truth--if she discovered the truth--would she run?

"I don't know what I see," the hostess said honestly after a moment of thought. "I can't put my finger on it. But it's there. It's something." Juno seemed to hold Sloane's interest better than the other students, and she really didn't know why that was. Juno seemed more genuine than the rest of the club's clientel.

Juno wanted to argue, to say that Sloane may disagree, but that was only because she didn't know who Juno really was, she wanted to argue that Sloane only thought she was so amazing because she had only just met her, and after a while, she would find Juno boring just like everyone else did, but to say that would make her a hypocrite, because she didn't know much about Sloane outside of public perception. So she bit her lip, and went another route. "You are so amazing, Everything I've seen. Everything I've heard about you! Its always been incredible. I just don't know how there is anything I could have that could compare." Juno whispered.

"I just don't know what that 'something' is."

THE ONLY TRUE WISDOM IS IN KNOWING YOU KNOW NOTHING.

Internally, Sloane cringed in response to Juno's praise. Her reaction surprised her and made her realize that part of her, an unrealistic part of her, had hoped Juno would somehow see more than the hostess. But Juno, like all of the other girls, saw Sloane for the woman she presented herself as. "Being amazing is my job, Juno," Sloane said. She wasn't trying to flirt or be charming or any of those things. She was being serious. Being amazing was her job. It the Hostess Club, it was all about appearances. Even when Sloane tried to be genuine, even when she made it a point not to lie or mislead, she was playing tricks with mirrors. Hostess Sloane was one Sloane, but not the Sloane.

"What do you know about me?" Sloane asked--almost challenged, really. "And I want only facts. What do you know about me?"

"I know, but it being your job doesn't make you any less amazing to me!" Juno whispered her voice weak, because she felt as though maybe she had stepped on some boundary, and was teetering on the age, like she had insulted Sloane somehow, and that this little fairy tale she had been floating through cloud 9 in was about to undergo the introduction of the antagonist and things were going to go to s**t. Juno looked at Sloane now, pleading, begging for understanding with her eyes. Juno wanted to convey that she wasn't only interested in the appearance that Sloane kept up.

Sloane wanted answers now, she wanted to know what Juno truly knew about her. The tall girl hung her head, and swallowed heavily. "I know that you are strong, physically, all the Hostess' are in shape, but its different for you. You don't only take care of your body because of your job. I know you aren't pampered, your hand, its soft, but not soft enough. I don't know what you do, but its nothing easy, for your hand to be so rough and worn. I know sometimes the make up around your face is thicker than others. As if masking something." Juno swallowed again. "I know that genuinely kind, unless everything you've shown me has just been part of the job for you, you've shown an interest in my art that wasn't selfish, and you are the first person to try and understand me, and it was very easy to open up to you. Even though I was scared out of my mind. But..." Juno shook her head, looking away again. "I'm sorry... I don't have any facts."

THE ONLY TRUE WISDOM IS IN KNOWING YOU KNOW NOTHING.

Sloane hadn't expected much. Maybe a list of the extracurricular activities Sloane was signed up for (at school), maybe a dull description of her appearance, maybe a glamorshot of her family's fame. But not this. For the first time, Sloane was stunned speechless. Her steps faltered, just a beat, almost unnoticeable; and her expression cracked, the surprise shining through. Even with only the observations about Sloane's rough hands and thick makeup, Juno already, somehow, knew more about Sloane than anyone else in the room. No, it wasn't impossible that someone else had noticed these things about the hostess, but Sloane had evidence to support her assumptions that it was unlikely. Now, what Juno had said about being kind... Even Sloane didn't know, to some extent. Perhaps that was yet to be seen.

Sloane managed to gather herself again, but something changed. Suddenly, she was less guarded, less distant. "No, please, quite the contrary. You know more about me than anyone else here," Sloane said, trying to catch Juno's eyes. The girl was embarrassed, and Sloane was immediately concerned that she had made her uncomfortable. "And please know... I have never once lied to you, neither in my actions nor my words."

Juno could feel Sloane trying to look into her eyes, so swallowed down her fears and faced forward looking at Sloane now with what bravery she could manage. She had basically admitting to stalking Sloane, even more so than her art work already had, but Sloane didn't seem to read it the same way Juno thought she would, the girl seemed impress almost touched by Juno's observation. Juno wanted Sloane to know how much she flat out adored her, and not the sort of adoration that a fan has for her idol, but the sort of admiration that makes you just want to reach out and grab hold of someone, and take from them this magnificent energy that they seem to project, to just inherit this power
"I'm sorry to even imply that you have been faking all this time we've spent together." Juno apologized sincerely. "And I wasn't trying to treat you like an item, like everyone else. I just got ahead of myself and said something....stupid." Juno didn't know why but she felt she needed to apologize, even if she wasn't entirely sure for what.

Juno seemed to be taking Sloane's words completely out of context. When Sloane had told Juno she had never lied to her, the hostess hadn't at all been implying she felt like she was being judged. Quite the opposite. The comment had been meant in an endearing way, as a reassurance to the timid, uncertain Juno that Sloane wasn't laying on the charm thickly with ulterior motives.

Sloane stopped dancing abruptly and pressed her pointer finger gently to Juno's lips. "No more apologies," she said firmly, though smiling to signify she was anything but upset. "Okay? For anything."

"Ok" Juno whispered softly when Sloane's finger moved from her lips, she couldn't feel her face right now, like not at all, every drop of blood in her body had rushed into her head she was pretty sure she was going to black out any time now. "No more apologies." She said, as an extra affirmative, before looking around the room. "Is there...maybe punch or something?" Juno's throat was suddenly way too dry.

THE ONLY TRUE WISDOM IS IN KNOWING YOU KNOW NOTHING.

Sloane scanned the room and eventually found the refreshments table. (She hadn't been very involved with preparations, as per usual.) "Yeah, right over here," the hostess said with a smile. She pressed a hand to Juno's back, gently turning her in the right direction. "I think I need a drink, too." Not the kind of drink they were about to get, but she was doing surprisingly well tonight. She almost didn't need it. Sloane led Juno over to the table and began filling two cups with punch.

A familiar head of blonde hair disrupted her view of the punch bowl, sneaking up on the other side of the table. Carly. She made a motion to fill a cup, but Sloane immediately got the sense it was all a cover. Carly was the club's resident "Princess," the "Goody Two Shoes" archetype. "Oh, Sloane!" she said, as if she was surprised, wearing that politician smile of hers. "A couple of girls are looking for you. Well, at least a dozen of them, anyway. Where've you been?"

"Dancing," Sloane said simply with a shrug. She knew why Carly was asking. I'm spending too much time with Juno. I'm not doing my job.

Although she clearly wasn't impressed by the answer, Carly turned her attention to Juno. "I'm Carly. I don't think we've met," she gushed, extending her hand.

Sloane placed the cup she had just filled in Carly's hand, effectively shutting down the intended hand shake before it could even happen. As a surprised Carly tentatively brought the cup to her lips to smoothe over the awkward incident, Sloane nonchalantly began to pour herself another glass. She stuffed a hand in her pocket and took a sip casually and surveyed the room.

Juno looked at the cup of punch that suddenly appeared in Carly's hands, pushed upon her from Sloane, the gesture wasn't completely missed by Juno, though the girl was sort of quick to dismiss it, she didn't have anything concrete to think that it was more than a bit of bantering between two friends, both girls were hostess' after all, it was just something she wouldn't understand.

"I'm Juno, it's nice to meet you." Juno said in as friendly of a tone that she could manage, while still focusing on not sounding awkward as all hell. Carly didn't seem to notice the stiffness, or perhaps she was so good as her job that she was just good at not showing her reaction to it as she smiled at Juno after sipping her punch. "Nice to meet you as well, is this your first time at a club function? I do not believe I've ever seen you before." Carly said pleasantly. Juno shuffled a bit, and sipped her drink, she knew it best not to mention that she had been around a lot, and that she had seen Carly just as much, her notebook would attest to that fact a bit. "I've been...." Juno looked at Sloane a bit, seeing that the girl seemed to be trying to occupy herself surveying the crowd. "Around." Juno finished, not really knowing what to say. "Around huh?" Carly said, looking at Sloane with a smile on her face.

THE ONLY TRUE WISDOM IS IN KNOWING YOU KNOW NOTHING.

Sloane didn't have issues with all of the girls in the Hostess Club. In fact, she didn't have issues with most of them. But Carly was too much for her sometimes, and they had never really gotten along. Carly was the exact type of person she scoffed at (in secret), the exact type of person Sloane's parents had wanted their daughter to be: polite, motivated to keep appearances, skilled at networking, able to smile through someone stabbing a knife through her hand. Carly reminded Sloane of everything she hated about her family's elitist, socialite life.

As Carly directed her attention to Sloane, Sloane, making lazy eye contact, shrugged and took another sip of her drink. "She's visited once or twice," she lied easily. She glanced at Juno. "That's what you said, isn't it?"

"Well, perhaps you should give another hostess the chance to dance with your stunning new friend," Carly said. "Besides, if you don't make your rounds, the other girls will riot!" She chuckled, as if it was all a joke to her. As if she wasn't making a command.

Sloane grinned over the rim of her glass. "If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were jealous, Carly."

Carly soured ever so slightly, but managed an easy laugh regardless. "It was nice meeting you, Juno," she said to Juno, before nodding in farewell to Sloane and taking off.

"Um... goodbye." Juno all bit whispered trying now very hard to not draw attention to herself, she could tell now that friendly banter was indeed not at all what was taking place here and that instead there was a bit of a subtle conflict being waged between the two girls before her. Juno being one who could handle conflict about as well as toilet paper could handle Niagara falls was suddenly feeling very nervous, the tension weighing on her. Needless to say, she was happy when Carly walked away. But still something she said caught Juno's attention.

"If staying with me, is causing you to neglect your responsibilities, I won't mind if you left me alone....for a little while." The last part she really didn't intend to say, it was more along the lines of something she should of only just thought to herself, but it more or less just came out, she couldn't even really say that it slipped. It was too honest to be a mistake. "I wouldn't want you to face any trouble because of me."

                                                                (Haha, the toilet paper metaphor...

Sloane sighed, contemplating her next move. Screw Carly. Sloane didn't want to deal with her fans right now, especially not in this setting, where their expectations for romance were much higher, much grander. Screw her duties as a hostess. But at the same time... "As much as I hate to leave your side, I think I'll have to, just for a few minutes," she said, adding the last part as a response to Juno's for a little while. "I won't be long, I promise. Just long enough to appease the masses." Grinning softly, she took Juno's hand and kissed it, then excused herself.

As Sloane departed to speak with some of the other girls, one of the guests walked over. She was clearly curious about Juno, eyes darting between Juno and Sloane. Finally, they settled on Juno, studying her. Silently.

(there are times when a girl outgrows her sailor uniform, and her signature, but then there are times when she realizes that growing up is for suckas.)

Juno would have probably felt a little more down about Sloane having to put her responsibilities first, if she hadn't been so sweet about her departure, saying that she didn't want to leave in the first, that she hated leaving even, made Juno feel all warm on the inside, her whole body heating up in the most brilliant of ways, and the gentle kiss she placed on Juno's hand only made it better, she watched Sloane go with a content little smile on her tanned face as she took a seat near the punch bowl. Placing her now unoccupied hands in her lap. She was on cloud 9 if she were to be honest not paying attention to much that was around her.

"Hi there~"

Juno nearly jumped out of her seat as a voice spoke up beside her suddenly, she hadn't even noticed a girl slide in beside her, which given her look Juno didn't know how she had managed to miss her, she had this serious aura about her, and those intimidating misty eyes of hers were in complete contrast to her friendly greeting. "Hello." Juno said, managing to sound friendly, though it was hard, she was truly not used to all of the attention that she was receiving today. "How are you enjoying the party?" She asked tilting her head a bit, Juno assumed she must be a hostess, or something of the sort "Oh it's been pretty enjoyable so-" She started but was cut off, "What's your name?" the girl asked no longer seeming interested in talking about the party. "Juno...." The girl nodded, looking over to the punch bowl, she stood and poured herself a cup, Juno watch her add something to the cup from a silver bottle she had in her coat. "You're rather tall for a girl Juno...." The girl commented and Juno wasn't sure if it was a compliment or not. "Incredible wing span, you ever use that advantage?" The girl asked her eyes narrowing, Juno swallowed. "Advantage? In what?" Juno asked, not sure she wanted to be having this conversation anymore. "A fight. You ever fought anyone before Juno?" Juno didn't like the way the girl was saying her name, not trusting her voice Juno shook her head. "Here have this." The girl said holding out the cup she had filled towards Juno, again the tall girl shook her head. "Here take it." the girl insisted and Juno shook her head again "I just.... I'd rather not." Suddenly the girls voice changed, to a lower tone, and her misty eyes darkened to a near black."This is not an option, now take my cup." Juno looked into the girls eyes and then quickly looked away, feeling slightly ashamed of herself as she reached out and took the cup, afraid of what would happen if she didn't. "I'm going to be frank with you. I don't respect cowards, and I respect them even less when they make moves on what is mine. Do you understand?" She asked, and Juno nodded, there was a pause as the girl kept looking at her. "Yes." Nodding the girl backed up a step. "You aren't invisible, just because you hide away in corners." the girl warned, before her sweet face returned, and she was smiling again "Later~" she said sweetly and walked away disappearing into the crowd. Leaving Juno to look down at the cup she had been left with, she could see bubbles forming on top of it from whatever liquid the girl had added to it, Juno shook her head and placed the cup on the table.

She had just been given a shake down, and for what? Because she had finally found someone who was willing to try and bring her out of her shell... Juno's chest was beginning to ache and her eyes were stinging. Where was her prince charming?
