As a rule, I limit my trafficking of hazardous materials to alcohol, fireworks, and evil sorceresses.
*The weather is still godawful, but the traffic has thinned quite a bit and Bard picks up the pace a little*

*breathes* God, Melliandra.... There's a ********' piece of work.
*He had to know.* How did she come here in the Jag without me hearing about it on the 6 'o clock news?

*shrugs* She didn't actually do... much. It's a little before your time, but did you ever watch Bewitched?

It's on Nick at Nite sometimes, but it's not like I watch it. I know it's about a ... *Luke starts to see Bard's point.* A hot blonde witch...

And the hapless schmo who gets stuck cleaning up the messes she makes. Only, instead of d**k York or d**k Sargent, I was the hapless schmo.
But just like the show, everything she did was basically benign. Self-propelled bicycles, umbrellas opening and closing. That sort of thing. Not the sort of thing any sane journalist broadcasts on the national news.
When it comes down to it, she's not exactly evil, I don't think. She's just... morally ambiguous. It's all a big game to her, and whether she helps you or tries to kill you pretty much depends on which she thinks will be more interesting.

*Luke listens to Bard's description of Melliandra's motivations. After a long moment, he says.* You could be right about that, but I also think it's bigger than that.
I, uh... *clears his throat* I went with Melliandra to her time. *explains himself* Mainly because Tavin suggested it. I needed something ... and she helped me get it.
She only did it because there was something in it for her, but ... I honestly don't know what would have happened if she hadn't helped me get it and bring it back.

Whatever we're involved in - being in the Brink - there's a whole ********' lot more going on that what Tavin or the Seraphim or ... anyone else is telling us. And Melliandra has a role in that, too.
I don't know exactly what the hell is going on, but I feel like I've gotten some information - from all of them really. I don't know what to make of it yet. But I'm trying to let as many people know about it. Because the more we find out, the better we can protect ourselves and the other people in there.

*agrees* Right, exactly. When I meet someone new, I try to tell them that in so many words.
*Luke thinks about it says.* I guess along with that... Melliandra and Tavin helped me get this artifact. I don't know exactly how it works, but when I have it on me and I'm near the Seraphim, he gets weaker. In fact, he gets so weak that - the last time he paid me a visit - I punched him down. *Luke finds himself starting to smile proudly at that.* He left. And I haven't seen him since.

Terrific! Seraphim kryptonite. Can we get any more where that came from?

*Luke laughs.* That's what I'm saying! We found that. *smirks* I had to go 16th century Italy to find it. But there are things out there that can stop this a*****e. We just have to keep asking about it.

*Bard considers for a moment* All this time I've been using the Brink library to try to figure out what that place is and why it brings us there. Maybe I've been looking for the wrong answers. I bet there are dozens... maybe hundreds of books on angels. Surely there has to be a book about the Seraphim.

*See, this is what he was talking about. Bring up what the ******** going on and you come up with all sorts of ways to handle it.* There you go. Why not? This is supposedly been going for ... what? Hundreds of years, or however old these guys are. Why shouldn't somebody have written it down at some point? Hell, maybe they were trying to warn somebody just like we're trying to do.

It's worth a look, at least. At this point, anything is better than sitting on our hands.
*he takes an Exit round and suddenly they are confronted by a billboard that says 'The State of Indiana Welcomes You.' Bard gestures at the sign. And then gestures immediately to the next sign 'Indiana Toll Road - Pay Toll Ahead*
The toll booths of Indiana welcome you.
