*After Aeoess finished the job she gave herself she overheard Myere's order to Destiny, but she knew that Destiny was shaken up by everything. So she ran off to to galley to send the message and to comfort Destiny*

The seas felt calm with only a small wind to fill the sails and rustle her hair across her shoulders. It felt like years since the captain had surrendered but it had really only been days. Sailing to Provokia was taking longer then she had imagined, or had time slowed down without the magical spark the captain seemed to have upon the ship? Sighing she looked out over the horizen, hoping to spot a speck of land.

Having given up entirely on trying to rig the light hawsers for smoother sailing without having to worry about carrying away a spar or yard, Myere gazed out over the wide open ocean. It had been nearly two weeks since the Captain had lef teh ship and the crew seemed to be adjusting slowly to their new place in the world under the command of Captain Ares, of whom had not been seen on deck since losing sight of the Boadicea.

Having been at the wheel for nearly eighteen hours with only meal breaks and a four hour nap, Myere held the helm straight and true. Looking about as the hands went about their business, he looked into the maintops, watching as the lookout's shadow drifted to and fro across the topgallant sheet as the ship pitched from side to side within the flowing seas. Calling to the maintop in a heavy quarterdeck voice, Myere hoped that whoever was on watch aloft might have spotted something within the last few days. "ALOFT THERE, REPORT!"

*She comes on deck and swaggers over to the railing. She looks into the ocean below and contemplates. Then she hears Myere asking about where they were, and decided they should be fairly close to Provoka now. She looked off into the distance over the bow, and thought she could almost make out land, but she was sure it was in her imagination.*
Right o, Mr. Vanstring! Where do you think we are at present?

'Well, red hell and bloody death - shouldn't you know?' almost passed his lips, but at the last moment Myere refrained from this rash comment. It was her first command and she was still young, so it was only natural she wasn't entirely sure of what was and wasn't appropriate for a Captain to do.

Still looking up to the Maintop, Myere thought a moment about their positioning. It seemed to him that they should have been off the coast of Barbados by now - two weeks sailing and a Westerly wind - he turned and looked over his shoulder towards the horizon. Strapping the wheel in place, Myere's eyes went wide. He looked at Captain Ares with fear.

"Not yet to Provoka, Captain. Indeed, we should be seeing Barbados by now, but nay... not a speck of sand. Though, Missus... I've been struck dumb with the thought that.. unknowingly, we might have drifted to far Northward. Captain.. Misses.... Ares, there is a danger of having drifted into the Bermuda Triangle."

((Sidenote: 'Has anyone else noticed that my Bermuda Triangle post was the Ten Thousand & "666" post upon the Guild? Rather eery for a superstitious old sailor like me'self.))

((I apologize. I took you for the navigator. My mistake.))

*she thought about this for a moment.*
The triangle? No....we can't be...
*she took out her compass and stared at it, pointing due Northwest.*
Damn. We did drift North. What luck we have....
*she turns to the wheel and turns it to port, to send them to the south.*

"Hmm, I wonder if they're alright.

Having sailed Due West, the wind might push them into Northern Trades, which in turn would land them in the dreaded Bermuda Triangle, from which there is no escape. Once you're in, you can't get out... compass going all topsy-turvy and no land as far as one can see. North is South, South is North & Everywhere is Nowhere. No, Captain Ares wouldn't lead them into the Triangle.. I hope."

"Of all the superstitious babble," Baxter was infuriated by the current talk going on. "The 'Bermuda Triangle' is an old tale to scare young midshipmen."

Baxter walked back and forthon deck trying to calm himself and regain composure.
"As long as we continue to sail in one direction, and I don't mean following the compass. I say if you don't turn the wheel, chain it in place if need be. Then we surely will come out of whatever you think we are in safely."

As this was out of his area of expertise, Reginald lacked a more eloquent way to state his doubts on the prospect of the Bermuda Triangle, but he had to say something.

Myere nodded to himself, going over their course in his head. The Triangle Theory made sense as to why they hadn't seen land as of yet. Then again, it might have only been their imaginations getting the best of them. The ship's company was tired and unsure of their future. The last place they wanted to be was aboard a ship vunerable to any who wished to prey upon her; be it Pirate, Privateer or - God Forbid - a Ship of the Line. Yes, moral was low and paranoia was running high. Something had to be done and soon. Land must be reached - preferably Isle de Provoka.

"Doctor, I must fully agree with you - though, I would suggest that you try not to question the ways of a superstitious genre. It could have very bad results - though, the men do take kindly to thinking that a learned and worldly man such as yourself - a man of sound and logical mind, should be sailing with us. I thank you for your advice.

Now, Miss Ares, as Quartermaster of this brig, might I suggest that we ask the Bosun to lay aloft with his men and rig Light Hawsers and 8'inch cable. The effect of tightening our standing rigging and hauling upon our Mainbrace shall be very benefitial. She'll be weatherly, stiff & fast. Waht say you, Captain?"

I say we end up going the way we were originally...the doctor has a point.

Keep the sails as they are. We may need the wind's luck later....

Hearing Ares trail off, she couldn't agree more. Why change their course now, it would only further their lost feeling if nothing was found. As for the triangle, she would have felt scared to be in it's mist, but all of her fear as of late had been used up, so she looked on with mild indiference. If they were truly in the triangle, then fear would not help them.

Myere stared blankly at the two Acting Officers. In his moments of mourning, Myere had overlooked the fact that the Captain had actually put the ship in greater danger by placing it within command of incompetent officers - officers who had no place nor right to be officers because they did not know their duties nor how to perform them to their utmost accuracy.

Myere was in a tough spot. Here he was, about to question his superiors authority and there was likely no one to back him. Miss Ares and Miss Midnight were wonderful people - he held nothing against them personally, but expierenced seaman they were not. The ship needed someone who knew how to navigate, who knew the difference between sails and rigging and how to best sail this particular type of ship. Myere was not the man for the job, but neither were most aboard. What the Lady Washington needed was a leader.

Witholding his fury at the utter stupidity and negligence of the situation, Myere uttered what he could without loosing his temper. "With all due respect, Captain.. Miss Midnight; I should like to ask you something that will seem to question your right to command this ship, but it is simpley a means of easing my own mind: Can you tell me what a Light Hawser & 8' Inch Cable is and what Function they would serve aboard a Ship?"

Looking at him as if he had slapped her, she shut her mouth to collect herself.

"Please tell me that you are not about to educate me about this ship. True, I was... am more of a favorite, some may call me a pet or a dear friend of the former captain of this ship promoted past my intelligence or knowledge of sailing."

She paused, collecting herself and thoughts, "But the captain put Ms. Ares in charge for a reason. I do not pretend to hold great knowledge about navigation or sailing, but I do know the sea and have a great love for her. I love this ship, she has been my home for most of my life. No I do not know certain riggings or sails, but I do know how she feels under my feet in a good wind which was enough for the captain to put her trust in me. He also knew that I am not one to turn a blind eye to someone more advanced then I in the knowledge of sailing. If you have something to say, I pray you just say it plainly instead of waisting our time trying to prove your superior knowledge. True by questioning the captain's knowlege and command you are stepping out of bounds, but by god man, speak plainly instead of trying to step around insubordination."

The color had raised in her cheeks, but the passion behind her words rang in her head. To be good at what the captain had promoted her to, she knew she needed help. But to have their word questioned not outright but instead their knowledge tested was too much. Right now they needed clear ideas, a plan. Something to do with their hands to keep them busy and happy, all working towards the same goal again and make it safe to land, to Provokia.

A Light Hawser is a tow rope. It is used to moor ships in a harbor. Yes, sir, I have been on this ship long enough to learn something...
*her eyes were intensely set upon him. For him to have suggested she was incompetent was a mistake on his part. She knew that he did have right, in that he had not been on the ship long, and thus did not know her full function on the ship. But she could not let this slide much. If she did it for him, someone else would try later.*
Now, if you don't believe I'm competent, you can leave the ship once we've reached Provoka and join another crew. I'm not sure you'll still have a spot on the Lady once we port.
*she took a breath and allowed herself to calm a second.*
Guide yourself below deck and think for a bit about what you'd like to do. I'd suggest staying out of my sight for a while.
