*Luke breathes against his closed mouth in frustration, but he wastes no time using Bard's phone to call the airports. It takes Luke a surprisingly short amount of time to reach a human being, as compared to 2003. However it is as Bard says. Flights to Philadelphia are grounded at both airports until the storm ends and the runways can be cleared. The clerks also remind him that - as it is Christmas night, all flights from Chicago to Philadelphia for the next twenty-four hours are booked solid.*
*Luke drops the phone back on the receiver and it makes a tiny 'bring' as it hits down. He run a hand down his face.* ******** heads into the kitchen, still just as determined.* All right, so they're grounded. I would have had a hard time using my fake ID to board the plane anyway. But the roads aren't blocked. Help me get a car, and I'll drive there.

*Bard hands him a mug of coffee* I don't have creamer, but there's milk in the fridge and sugar on the table if you want any.
*Bard pours his own cup of coffee and drinks it black. Finally, he says, pointedly* You know I can't get you a rental car, Luke. You just said yourself you don't have a license that will pass in 1999. All it's going to take is one overzealous cop outside Toledo and you'll be sitting in some Ohio holding cell with a bunch of Christmas drunks calling me to wire you bail money.
Or worse. You get in a car wreck and get laid up in some hospital. You have anything in that wallet of yours to link you back to your family? Because they are sure as hell going to be in for a shock if they find out you're in a hospital. Might be just the news they want to hear. Might be they even call off the search parties, and then? What happens to your younger self?
*he gives him a meaningful look over the rim of his coffee mug* Sure, you're going to tell me it's worth all the risks. But frankly, I don't think your head's clear enough to make that decision right now.

*Luke set down the coffee mug on the nearest surface. Luke shook his head at what Bard was saying and repeated angrily.* My head’s not clear enough?
All right, what’s your suggestion, Bard? That I just sit on my a**? Drink this coffee and wait for it happen? Sit here knowing exactly where I could go to find the people that got away with this? *Luke doesn’t dare wait for Bard to answer that.* There is no ********’ way I’m gonna do that. Not when out there, less than a day’s drive away, I could find the people responsible and do what I’ve been trying to do since it happened.
*Luke sighs, calming down after he says that.* Look, I’m going there with or without your help. You already got me here. And that’s… *It’s something Luke hadn’t even thought about, the entire time he’d known Bard, when they talked after the fist fight, when they were fixing the Jag…* That’s more than anyone could have done. But I came this far, and there’s no way in hell that I’m gonna sit here.
*As he says this, Luke takes out his wallet. He had some cash. Not a lot, but he’d make it last.* I just need to use your phone again. *Luke goes to pick up the telephone.*

*Bard grabs him by the shoulder* Don't bother with the phone. Just...
*he sighs* Just ... Sit tight for a second, okay? I'll be back in a minute.

*Bard pats him on the shoulder and heads into the living room. He disappears upstairs for a few minutes, and when he comes back down, he's dressed in his familiar gray suit. He grabs a coat, scarf, hat, and gloves from the closet. He pauses for a moment to turn off the fireplace, then he comes back to Luke. He opens a cupboard and pulls out a stainless steel thermos. He fills it with the rest of the coffee from the pot*
I'm going to clear the drive. Go grab yourself a coat from the hallway or a sweater from upstairs if you want one. I'll be waiting for you in the car.

*Luke nods to Bard gratefully.* Thank you. *He goes to the coat closet and chooses one a warm coat with a hood. Luke also grabs a skull cap and gloves from up top in the closet. After giving it a second thought, Luke does hurry up the stairs and grab a sweater. After all, he only had one change of clothes.*
*While he's upstairs, Luke takes Bard's advice and clears out his wallet. By the time he's done, the only thing left in there is his cash and the ID he's been using to get into bars since he was 18.*
*After getting what he needs, Luke goes out into the garage, where Bard is still shoveling snow out of the driveway. Luke looked around for another shovel, but came up empty. So he waited by the car.*

*The snow is still coming down heavily, and Bard's efforts are a bit like bailing water from the Titanic. After a few more minutes, he gives up and returns to the car*
All right, it's... *he glances at his watch* ...a little after midnight. The Roads are going to be hell in this weather, but we've got at least six hours before traffic starts to pick up. I figure if I keep guzzling coffee, I should be able to get us there with only minimal stops for gas and whatnot.

Whoa, wait. *blinks, points* You're gonna drive me there. *It's hard to tell if it's a statement or a question.*
Bard. *Luke's shaking his head.* No, I'm not asking you to do that.

You don't have much of a choice. As far as I'm concerned, while you're in my time, you're my guest. And that means I'm not going to let you go running off after some faceless kidnappers all by yourself.
We are either in this together, or I take you back right now. Your call.

*Luke's still shaking his head.* Bard, I know you think you're looking out for me, but if anything happens, you're tied into this. Enough s**t has happened because of this. Just because I'm taking risks doesn't mean you have to, just because you brought me here.

I told you. You don't have a choice in this. Just think of me as your chauffeur. Now, are we going to Pennsylvania?

And I'm serious. Going back to the Brink is nice and easy. I'm not sure I even have to touch you to bring you back with me. Shall we try it?

*Luke looks down and in pausing to think, he realizes that both he and Bard know what he's going to do. All that's left is to do it. He looks up at Bard and gets into the car.*
