I'm not sure I understood that, but alright.

How about either a Halo Reach one or a Starcraft one?

I do believe both of those were suggested within the last few pages.

But that aside, I'm definetly for the Halo Reach one.

Pardon my inactivity, I've been "occupied" as of late. I was informed to brainstorm character ideas and critiques here, ergo; if I do, can I be sure anyone is even still watching this thread?

Concerning character development. Here is the character I have been working on most recently. He is an elf, born from a forest upon a continent which is dark most of the year (similar to how Alaska can have up to three months of darkness). In order to adapt, the elves of this continent, unable to farm food without light, took to studying arts of magic that manipulated the dead (necromancy), towards sustaining their bodies without food or resource (similar to earlier DnD concepts of white-necromancy). Similarly, over time, due to a lack of light, the forests withered over time (ages) turned into a poisonous bog-marsh swamp; again, these elves learned how to control the poison and toxicology of their environment, in order to regulate it from themselves.

The rough and dirty of this character is that he was an elf from said continent who was a studied Necromancer studied in the art of Toxicology. He left his home to study poisonous plants to the south (Think; devil's tongue, in places like africa), and ended up settling down in another land after a few centuries had passed.

With his long lifespan, he began to advise people in the lands around him, based on worldly lore, and his more than just one human lifetime, of life-experience. He eventually became an royal adviser to a king in the land of Elesia, and was granted a duchy of land that he would always have as a home in Elesia, in service to multiple generations of kings, and his loyalty to humans.

Eventually he was starting to become old, even for an elf, and sought ways of becoming immortal, that he could continue to protect, or at least oversee the land he loves, hence he began researching ways to become a baelnorn (the equivalent to an elven lich, immortalized through either divine or elven magic, instead of arcane magic).

Below is the profile for him, in the RP he was first used in (which he has changed a lot from, ever since)

Dorian

Username: Dorian
Name: Valandel Telemnar "Dorian"
Age: He refuses to tell his age, however, according to kingdom records, he has been in the kingdom for over 700 years.
Gender: Male
Race: Dusk Elf
Status: Arch Duke
Appearance: Valandel stands 5'11" with pristine white hair, skin, and shining purple eyes which glow with the soft hue of magic. He is not really a muscular man, then again, most elves are not, he is better described as chiseled, cut proportionally like a well descript statue, but not built up like a human bodybuilder, or knight who wears armor. Contrary, Valan wears white and gray royal tunics, which formerly belonged to king Korvus Reryin the third.
Abilities
Talents: (Life Experience) While he is not a warrior, nor is he particularly mighty, Valendel can use most swords, daggers, and staves or spears, with balance and grace as well as voraciousness that he has accumulated over hundreds of years of practice. As well as his diplomatic way of life, he is also quite talented with a harp, able to string songs together on a subconscious level, without having to sit down and write up a composition sheet.
Magic: (Elven magic) Valendel as an elf, has a stronger connection to magic, than any normal human would have, his elven blood and high sorcery, allows him to cast a myriad of spells, not uncommon for an elf. While Valendel is talented in the lore of magic, his most prominent styles of spell casting are clerical enchantments and spiritual necromancy.
Traits: (Elf Eyes and Ears) As an elf, Valendel has unwavering eyes, his eyes never become tired, and can dilate and adjust to dark places, much faster than a human could, his hearing is also more sensitive which allows him to trace carried vibrations.
Backstory:
User ImageA foreigner from another land, whom is a member of the of the long lived elven species, this elven from the cult of dusk known as the brood ones, seeking the secrets of immortality and arcane lore. As apparent to many, this once reclusive elven made his home in the kingdom of Elesia, with the goal to study the nature of other races, humans, dwarves, among many others witnessed therein. The elven wizard known as Valandel Telemnar came to be known among the people as "Dorian the sage", a name with a title much easier for them to pronounce. The wizard continued to live among the people, never bothering anyone, but gaining renown as through the ages, he collected more and more knowledge about the kingdom, and the families both royal and noble. Eventually, he was approached by the King of Elesia (Who at that time was Majesty Korvus Reryin the third (III).), where he was offered to become a scribe for the kingdom. As time passed, Dorian the sage developed a friendship with Korvus, being one of the few in the palace who did not stare at the queen or daughters with lust filled eyes, Korvus announced the sage as a personal advisor, and Arch Duke to the kingdom. However, as time passed, Korvus grew old, and as his generation came to pass, another was born. The elven wizard continued to remain young and healthy through all the years and generations which would pass thereafter, until he faded into the shadow of royalty, living in the castle casually throughout the next several generations. As the Arch Duke, second royal in hierarchy next to the king himself, Valandel typically does not bother with the politics of the royal family, but his concerns seem more focused on the welfare of the kingdom itself, and the land he has come to call his home.

At some point near the close of the RP, he had discovered a way to achieve what he claimed to be "true" immortality, which transcends even the kind of death, gods can suffer. Having studied the past hubris or ego of other gods, Myrkul, Mystra, Velsharoon, Azuth, Mask, Tyr, Valandel etc etc; concluded that he could transcend death itself, as long as he had substance in the living world. One thing all these gods had in common was that, for all their unfathomable and god-like logic, that none of these gods ever planned for their deaths, or made counter-measures to prevent their will from being done beyond the grave, that became something Valandel took into consideration, right away.

Border-lining his approach to becoming a Baelnorn, he began to study the souls of demons and devils, indoctrinating himself with demonology, as to better understand the nature of damned souls, and their existence in service to necromancers, and began creating clones of himself to use as mediums to communicate with infernal and divine beings, clones inscribed with symbols, runes, and other control means which he could control destroy, and fully operate with no risk of being drawn into some form of dark pact, or being diverted from his own goals by divine logic of celestials. as he continued wrangling knowledge from other super-dimensional beings, about spirituality and immortality.

If he couldn't become a baelnorn, then at the very least he could have an infinite number of hibernated clones in his laboratory, to continue his work for all eternity, each of which he created himself over the centuries of his lifespan.

Now, Valandel has a lot going for him, so I didn't want to Fudge him up by having him go mad with magic, but this provided an opportunity for me to RP him in a different direction, a "what-if". What if Valandel were evil, and instead of seeking baelnorndom, and pursuing white-necromancy; he sought to use his magic to enslave the souls of others. I made another profile for Valandel, some time later in another RP for an "legendary elementals" roleplay to place him into a challenging situation, as he has no elemental magic, and see how things turned out.

Profile below

Dorian

Name: Valandel Telemnar
Race: Dusk Elf (?)
Age: Val appears to be "about" in his mid to late twenties. But he could be very young, or very old. Since elves age so gracefully, his "real" age cannot be determined just by looking at him.
Grade : Val isn't sure where he fits in, in terms of the grading scale, he believes himself to already know everything he needs to know, having lived and studied weapons and magic for many years before coming to the school.
Elements : Val doesn't have any elemental abilities, his powers seem to be rooted to the casting of arcane spells, not using elemental powers. His magic spells consist of necromancy (Dark Magic), and enchantments (Empowering Magic).
Weapon of choice : While he is not a warrior, nor is he particularly mighty, Valendel can use most swords, daggers, and staves or spears, with balance and grace as well as voraciousness that he has accumulated over years of practice. He is extremely proficient in light weighted weapons, and can be considered an expert at assassination techniques which utilize fast precise attacks, instead of brute force.
Bio : Valandel was born in the dusk swamp, far away from most human civilizations, but made a habit of traveling during his teenage years (at least, for a period of time). Valandel used to live in a kingdom, once dominated by humans, as he got older, slowly, natural disasters reclaimed the land, there were less and less places to live. After waking up after the destruction of a large part of the kingdom due to a quake which swallowed a large chunk of the lands into the waters below, Valandel had little choice but to travel elsewhere, the land of the kingdoms was no longer safe or habitable due to geographical disasters. Valandel returned to his life of travel after quite some time, and eventually decided to try his hand at different ways of life. Hearing about an elemental school while on the road, Valandel decided to participate in the school activities, to see if there was anything he could learn about the observation of interracial cultures and elemental societies. Maybe Valandel has elemental abilities himself, which just never came to the surface, he wouldn't know, but he doesn't seem to care much for if he does or not, already having training in spell casting, he doesn't see elemental capacity as a necessity to study such culture.
Appeal: Valandel stands 5'11" with pale blonde/ashen white hair, pallid white skin, and violet eyes which glow with the soft hue of magic. He is not really a muscular man, then again, most elves are not, he is better described as chiseled, cut proportionally like a well descript statue, but not built up like a human bodybuilder, or knight who wears armor. Contrary, Valan wears white and gray royal tunics (though occasionally he is seen is dark smoky gray and black as well).

The Valandel in this profile, is not the Valandel from Elesia, but rather, a "clone" from one of Valandel's group of clones using to conduct research with communicating infernal/divine creatures. This clone of Valandel is possessed by an Immolith..

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Immolith

The story with this Valandel is that, while the true-valandel was trying to communicate with a spirit, he channeled an immolith, instead of one soul, it was a dozen souls, and the immolith quickly became "lodged" into the body, giving the body a twisted version of the spark of life, and a "makeshift soul" (as an immolith is dead when it is first created anyhow, a series of souls fused into a singular entity, before being reborn, the clone of Valandel, in this instance, happening to be the catalyst for this particular immolith's creation).

This doesn't make the clone anymore powerful per-se, but it gives the clone a reason to go out of control, awakening with a soul, and Valandel's memories, the clone presumed itself to be the "true" Valandel, and escapes the would-be-immortal-baelnorn-Valandel's lab. I left this detail out, when I created the aforementioned profile, as his personal goal for the RP was supposed to be attaining both a sense of self-discovery, and at the same time, independence from the true-Valandel.

Being under the influence of an immolith (or at least having gotten his breath of life replacement from one), gave reason to play "Valandel" as though he were taking a much darker road, in life, instead of studying the deathless art for the sake of his own continued existence. Since the clone has all of Valandel's memories, knowledge, and everything else associated with the true-Valandel, it is just the same as playing the original Valandel, but to the same effect as a much darker story.

However, he ended up getting stuck between some sort of wolf-like neko-girl who fell in love with him (Partially his fault, due to stealing her soul), and then brainwashed by a succubus who wanted to bang his bones out and take him to hell to be her plaything for all of eternity (Was drawn to his the clone's morbid outlook and insidious personality). Being stuck in that sort of situation put something of a detour on his development, so I ended up withdrawing from that RP.

At this point I'm not sure what to critique, retcon, "adjust" rewrite, change or add onto Valandel (Clone or original). I figured the community could help me work on that, and I could pick and choose out of ideas, critiques and other such logistics of where to go with him, or what to do with him in the next RP I use him in.

Wow... umm... maybe we should make a new forum discussing characters... o.o
But yeah, I think you put too much detail in an intro. Theres almost nothing else left to do. XD

Alright, I might make a Reach one in the next few days...

I was instructed to post his information here, under the pretense I was trying to fine tune him, and remove some of the useless details about him, and create a generally easier pair of characters to work with, between Valandel and his clone.

Having posted his information two days ago, after being informed this was an actively monitored thread, I can't say I've had the most feedback on the character, or what sort of direction to take them.

Nevertheless, I've used "ideas" from Valandel, in a Demon: The Fallen game I currently am participating in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon:_The_Fallen

The game is not held in this guild (obviously), however, I suspect nearly everyone here is unfamiliar with the world of darkness setting. Over a course of 30 RP sessions, and a year long chronicle held online (through gaia actually), the story is starting to come to a close, as the characters are just about ready to tackle the conspirators and the main-objective of the story, details of which I am not at liberty to post here.

Character crossovers are very important to roleplay development, even though Valandel is not a demon himself, he is "possessed" by an immolith, which also works out for my malefactor in Demon the Fallen, as he is the kind of demon who is actively possessing someone, instead of running around in their true apocalypse form, blowing up churches and harvesting human souls.

Subtle evil is the tool of all corruption, and the path to hell is paved with good intentions.. The Baali (a sect of vampires who study demonology), make excellent servants (akin to Valandel having a clone).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baali_(World_of_Darkness)

Nevertheless, a character thread for discussing and developing/reworking characters, would be appreciated (by me anyhow; not sure whom else would use it).

Oh well I read the whole intro and its fine.
I um... wow... you type a lot.
Haha. I don't even know how to respond to any of that.

And playing no video games myself I can't say I would join a Halo one.
Okay I have some ideas for roleplays:
-BattleStar Galactica (or Caprica or something in that setting)
- And is anyone familiar with Doctor Who? I've never seen that mentioned here..
