"Here." He said simply, honestly, then blushed, looked away, cleared his throat. "Um...Who's our favorite professor at school?" He asked, suddenly forgetting all the other questions he'd had.

"Sacrifice ... I'm not sure how I know the feeling." He followed behind her closely watching the moon hovering in the sky. Now he knew there was something more to the world around him, that darkness wasn't the only thing he could feel now. "I understand how you feel ... somehow."

"Can you really?" She murmured, more to herself that to Night himself. Lifting her face to the sky, she breathed in, then breathed out the fresh air before turning to her companion. "You can feel it, can't you? Like there's an electric current running through the air...The spirits are getting restless." She said, knew in a few days it would be time for the ritual fire.

((Duh duh duh!! Here it is! lol!! j/k))
Lin gasped and looked up at Ambrose when he responded that this place was his favorite place. Even more so than his own home? Wow. That touched her so much... Her home meant so much to her.
She smiled softly and kindly at him for awhile until his latest question finally registered in her mind and she felt the color leave her cheeks. Had he just asked her who her favorite professor at school was? Oh no... And she didn't want to lie. She hated to lie at any time, and she would not lie to her new friend. But, she could act as if the question wasn't that big of deal. She just really hoped that he did not see the color leave her face earlier.
She smiled, although not her normal easy smile, and pretended to think. She even put one of her long, elegant index fingers on her chin and tapped it gently. "Hmm.. Well, there are so many professors at Mystic Fountain that I greatly admire and appreciate. There is Professor Akakios that is incredible in everything, especially healing, and even tutors me in advanced medicinal herbs studies in the evening. Professor Ialo ((pretend she said his last name, please. I can't think of it at the moment.)) is also quite intelligent and fun. If I had to pick a favorite... oh... we'll just pick Professor Dymetri."
She pretended just to brush it off and quickly moved on to a question she could ask him. Any question at all to get it off the subject of favorite professors. "What is a power you wish you possessed?"

"Yeah ... I know, I feel it." He nodded looking towards the stars of the seemingly peaceful night. "Then I guess we have a few days ..." Enough for me to stop it. He told the last part to himself knowing what ever was going to happen was going to happen, but he sure as hell was going to fight it.

"Yes, a few more days yet." She agreed, her voice soft and seemed to be floating on the wind. After a few moments of silence, she said, "Don't tell Da, or Ambrose. It's none of their concern." She said, her voice firm now. "If anything happens, they'll just suspect it was because I messed up with a spell or something...Seriously, though, who would suspect that the feared Shadow Runner was out to do a good deed for the world? Crazy times we live in, boy-o." She murmured, shaking her head.
"You know what? I think I'm going to dance now." She said, and with a lift of her hands the scene around them began to change into an illusion. Gone went the night, the loneliness. Around them now was an extravagent dance floor, with a string quartet striking up a ballad. Running her hands down her body, her cloak changed into an evening gown, and the ribbons her father had sent her were in her hair.
"It calms me when I dance. Don't ask me why." She said, her eyes just a bit brighter when a partner she conjured up for the illusion stepped forward, offering his hand. Since she was so close, she didn't notice that the mirage looked somewhat like her father. The man she'd used to worship above all others. If anyone had told her today that she still held onto that, she'd have spat at their feet in disgust. As the man led her into the dance, she glanced over at Night, raising a brow. Do you dance, Night?" She asked, resting her head on the man's shoulder, closing her eyes.
Ambrose caught the expression on Lin's face, then blinked when she said Professor Dymetri...The vampire? "Uh...Isn't that his first name? Never mind. I'm sorry, what was your question again. Forgive me, but my mind went blank for a bit there." He said, not understanding the pressure he suddenly felt on his chest as he absently rubbed at the spot over his heart...Strange...

((Ack! Don't tell me I missed you on here by just a few minutes!!! Oy...))
Lin felt her heart rate pick up as Ambrose pointed out a mistake she had obviously made. Professor Dymetri?? Oh no... How was she going to cover this up?! How had she make such a foolish mistake? Well, she had to at least try to cover it up. She couldn't reveal to anyone, not even Ambrose, about her relationship with Dymetri! He could be fired if the wrong person found out and told the Headmaster!
She waved her hand and giggled softly. "Oh, I must have made a mistake. I have heard other students call him such, so I must have just slipped up and called him that myself. I am glad you caught me. I should never be so informal when talking to or about a professor. I meant to say Professor Valen."
It wasn't exactly a lie! She had heard many students refer to Dymetri as Professor Dymetri. He was very relaxed, obviously. But if she hadn't lied, why did she feel so awful? Like a pit was forming in her stomach from sudden guilt flooding her?
She tried to remember what question she had asked him earlier. "Um, I believe I asked... Oh! Yes, I remember. What power is it that you wish you possessed?"

"No ... no I don't," He admitted looking at the conjured dancer oddly, but held his tongue knowing she would hate if he said anything. He watched Her as she danced admiring the quick change that she had put in place of the school. Altho it was only an illusion it looked like Danni would have been better off living in this world then the other.

"Ah, that's a shame. I learned while standing on my daddy's shoes. Nothing quite like the first time you take a turn around the floor." She said absently, then closed her eyes and the scene changed. Suddenly they were in a bright, flowered field, the sun apparently up, a stream gurgling next to them and a blanket spread out under a tree. Now she was dressed in cutofffs and a halter top, her hair tied back into two braids.
"So, what do you like to do, Night?" She asked, and chuckled when in the illusion a young boy with her eyes and coloring came toddling up, his arms held out to her. She swept him up, cuddling him close. "Tonight's a night for wishes and dreams, Night. Whatever you want, I can make happen...at least in our minds." She said, and suddenly they were joined by a man and several more children varying in age. All the children had some feature of hers, but the man was faceless, due to her indicision as to who she wanted to share in this particular future with her.
"I could've had this once, you know." She said, gesturing to the children, the man, who didn't really exist except for in her mind. "It was the marks on my back that damned me, so now this is all I can do. Illusions of what could have been...But it's better than nothing."
Meanwhile, Ambrose decided to get past the previous discomfort of the moment, so he thought a moment, then smiled. "I wish I could read people's minds. It'd be so much easier to please them that way, or at least find out what they want, what they feel..." He trailed off, shrugging his shoulders.

Night didn't know what to say, but in his mind he remembered something. It was like a far off memory, and without thinking he interrupted her illusion replacing it with his own memory. The forests turned into a small town in summer. behind both of them was an old styled building made of bricks, Wooden shutters covered the windows and various Toys filled the grassy yard. The building was sitting atop a hill overlooking the entire peaceful town. A few seconds past when from the old building ran what looked like ghosts, shadows of incomplete memories. They were only the size of small kids, and the area filled with the sound of laughter. In place of Night Stood a tall Teenager with brown wavy hair facing away from her. His Dark robes were replaced with jeans and a blue button shirt, and on the back of his neck the tattoo of a dark spell caster could be seen through his hair.
"You know Danni I think I was here once ... something about seeing this place makes me remember fragments of stuff I've never seen. something about these Shadows makes me remember people I never met, and something about this town makes me remember a pointless sacrifice, and an inferno." He Continued to look down at the town, still hiding his face. Behind both of them an hazy voice that sounded like it was coming from a broken radio called and the shadows darted inside disappearing as they hit the door . "This is a night for wishes," He turned around revealing his face which looked similar to his adult form only slightly younger, "but not mine ... tonight it's your wish ... my Wishes will be forged by me alone."

Lin was glad that Ambrose didn't push any further on the previous subject and instead answered her question. And his answer genuinely made her think.
She looked off to the side, thought for a few minutes, and then answered softly, "I used to think the same way, so that I could please my father. He seems to always be pleased with all of his children, but I am always looking for ways for my parents, and especially my father, to be proud of me."
"However, I now know that I would not like someone invading my privacy and rooting through my brain. I have things that I do not want anyone else to know about me. So, I would feel guilty if I could read others' minds. Even if I had good intentions, such as yours, I believe I would still feel guilty and what I discovered by doing it could be much more of a burden than I can handle."
She then looked up at Ambrose and smiled.

Danni blinked when the scene change, looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, not saying a word. When he said that tonight was for her wish, she ran her hands through her hair, sighed. "Do you know what I see in my 'nightmares', Night? It's another kind of future, most likely the one fate's decided on in that damnable way it has...I think you should see it...Just a little detour from our happy visions..." She murmured, and then waved her hand in front of her eyes, seemingly drawing out the memory of her vision so it looked as though Night would be looking in on a scene happening right before him.
It was a battlefield of some sort, obviously not of this area. It was a dark, rocky valley, sharp rocks coming out of the ground, covered in blood. Bodies, both demon and human, littered the ground, along with broken spears, arrows, daggers, and swords. Flames licked at the ground, set around in no apparent pattern. And everywhere there was blood.
But on a raised altar of rock in the middle of the valley where no natural light reached, torches burned in a circle, while inside its light, Arzol, Dunstall, and Gambit stood to the side, heads bowed in respect to the cloaked and hooded figure standing beside the altar, his dark hands stained with blood.
Suddenly the image zoomed in to the altar. And there was Danni, hands and legs bound and spreadeagle on the rock altar, her eyes open and unseeing. A black dagger was stuck deep in her chest, and her blood spilled over the ground. Suddenly her head lifted, and her eyes met Night's.
Out of her bloody mouth, the words came. "It's not always like this. Sometimes it's slightly different at the end, but the scene's the same." Then the scene seemed to rewind, and this time in the middle of the valley there was a deep crater-like hole. Suddenly, pulling themselves up from the crater was Dunstall, long hair singed as he looked down at what was left in the crater.
The scene zoomed again, so Night could see as well. The hooded figure lay unmoving on one end, a bright white cross suspended over its body in rebellion. Burn marks led to the other side of the crater, where Danni lay on her back, eyes opened as before, but blank and unseeing. In one hand was her sword. In the other, rosary beads. Both had died, but only one had been sacrificed.
Suddenly that scene disappeared all together, and Danni, Night, and Moe were suddenly in the middle of a lake on a boat, a light wind coming up. "I don't much like either version." She said absently, letting the wind hit her face directly.

Ambrose nodded, thinking. "Agreed. Once more, you're right." He said with an east smile, then said, "What's your goal for the future?"

He chuckled slightly after the visions ended. "You wanna know something Danni? There's a Race that was crafted by gods to copy the humans. You know who they are? The Silverwings The gods resented the fact that humans could act outside their will and bring them down ... so they made silverwings, but like their model they were able to break free from the gods. Kai has already defied your visions by bringing me too you, and I sure as hell won't let his chance to change a faulty prophecy die."

"That so?" She said, leaning back and letting the ends of her hair hit the imaginary water. When the scene changed yet again as she blinked, they found themselves at her house...or what had been her house. It was Christmas, she was young, maybe three, sitting on her father's lap, while in the background Lia gently petted the mink her mother had gotten while Ambrose tinkered with his train set.
Her and Night were sitting in chairs by the fire, Danni absently watching what had once been her reality. "You're good for me, Night. There's this quote I remember from somewhere by some Norman dude. He said, 'Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.' I'm pretty sure he had a point there. I mean, look at what I used to be." She gestured to her beaming, happy three year old self. "And over the years..."
With a gesture of her hand, Night saw her changing through the years, not just in height, but personality as well. "I stopped trying after a while. I only wanted to make them happy, and when I couldn't...It's scary to realize how much worrying about something can take over your life. I don't want it to anymore, Night. Maybe, just maybe, I'm not actually meant to die. So I'll hold onto that thought, and try...try to get back to my lovely, personable self." She said, looking at the scene before them now, of her sitting sideways in one of the chairs in Cook's living room near the fire, and in the other chairs were Cook, and a faceless colored woman, and a boy and girl, yougner than her, obviously Cook's children.
She'd lost her family, she thought, but that didn't mean she couldn't forge herself another one...
