Lin nodded and smiled very brightly. "Wonderful! It's a date then. Next weekend, I will go home with you and Lia. I cannot wait to see your parents again."

She then paused and tried to think of something to say. She couldn't really think of anything at the moment. "Well, if you need to go to bed, I completely understand. It has been a very busy day."

It was only about 10 at night and she would be staying up for another 6 hours, approximately. But she completely understood if Ambrose needed to rest.

Taking a moment or two to get past the word 'date', Ambrose made himself react quickly to Lin's words. "Oh no, if you don't mind, I'm not used to going to bed for quite a few more hours." He said, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. "I'm more of a night owl than an early bird, to tell the truth." He said, offering her a smile.

Pulled out of her half sleep by Night's words, Danni pulled her head out from under the pillow, looked at him, then at the clock, then groaned. "What're you talking about?" She muttered, not remembering much, only knowing she felt like absolute s**t for some reason.

"Your talking to someone ... in your sleep ... you have been doing it for quiet some time, but I'm only getting your half of the conversation." Taking in a stressed breath he landed on the floor. "It's starting to worry me a bit," Frowning at the thought of seeing Danni suffer any further.

Realizing all of a sudden what Night must've been hearing, Danni blushed, glad it was dark. It was shameful, she thought, so shameful. The great Shadow Runner heard voices of those long dead. It wasn't always the Ancients. Sometimes it was the voices of those she'd killed that night, sometimes the voices of her 'family'. What was worse, she didn't seem to be powerul enough to keep them out of her head. How was she supposed to admit that she didn't know how to control it?

Shaking her head, Danni ran a hand through her hair, which she'd died blue again just before leaving for work that night. "I...I don't know. Probably just dreaming." She said, unfortunately not realizing that she was a terrible liar when sleep deprived. In earlier years, her older brother had taken advantage of that, waking her at dawn and getting her to spill everything she'd done. So, she'd just have to do her best to control the falseness in her voice. It was no use having anyone worry, after all. She could handle it...probably. But she did know what the Ancients were yelling at her about night after night. And that was something else she just had to accept and deal with.

At hearing this, Lin gasped softly and then positively beamed at Ambrose. "You are?! Oh that must be the Elven coming out in you! Even though you are only partial Elf, it must be much stronger in you than either one of us originally thought! After all, you have the intelligence and quick intellectual speed that Elves have, and now it appears that you also have the ability to stay up late and only need about 3-4 hours of light sleep a night, if even that!"

Lin then caught herself and blushed brightly as she looked down at the floor in embarrassment. She laughed softly. "Well, I assume that you wake up early as well as going to bed late. I guess you could always go to bed late and sleep very late, which would be more of a human trait, but since we are leaving early tomorrow morning for a tour but you know that you don't need to go to bed now, I just assumed that it meant you sleep for a very short amount of time. Please forgive me if my assumption is entirely off-base."

Night frowned again nodding, He hated seeing Danni is such a sap condition. "Alright if you insist I won't pry, but just remember I'm here if you need me." Was that him talking? Was he the one offering his help? Now he was worried about what was happening again. Something was upsetting something and he couldn't pin point it, He found himself wishing Kai were there to answer his questions.

Ambrose held up his hands, trying to stop her mid-rant. "Relax, relax, you don't have to worry about that. I only sleep a few hours, maybe a nap during the day if I need it. You were right, once again. So can we add psychic to your list of traits, lovely Lin?" He asked, attempting to get her to calm down.

Danni just looked at Night. "Did you get some bad chicken today?" She asked, shaking her head. Without thinking, since she never thought before seven am, she added, "Thanks for worrying, though. I mean it. I can only take so much of all those damned voices in my head, and for some reason I just can't get them to...leave...damn it." She muttered, aiming her head for her pillow again when she realized her tongue had slipped again. However, her early morning vision was never at its best, so she ended up whacking the headboard with her forehead instead, and she winced, muffling her curse with her pillow. "Just...just forget I said that. I'm an idiot." She muttered, rubbing her forehead.

Lin looked up when Ambrose made his small joke, and she couldn't contain her smile or her giggle. "Well, not quite. I simply am good at reading people and also at ascertaining much information from little-given words. I believe meditation practices also help greatly."

She smiled again, a relaxed one this time. Ambrose was a very polite, well-mannered young man, which she greatly appreciated. However, she was quite surprised to find herself also appreciating the relaxed atmosphere he seemed to carry around with him and how it seemed to put her at ease.

" I can agree with you there, but are you alright you slammed your head pretty hard." He grasped her shoulder looking at the damage. "Just try to get some rest your looking worse by the day." He sighed returning the the air levitating just above the floor.

"Oh, Night, the compliments you dish out to me. I'm not sure if my ego can take such flattery." She muttered, but let her eyes flutter closed. God, she was tired, so tired...So why couldn't she fall asleep. Damn you, vicious insomnia, she thought, rolling onto her back. The bags under her eyes could hold a week's worth of groceries, and her head was spinning.

With a groan, she sighed at the clock, cursed the two a.m. number that was there. Once again, it didn't look as though she'd be getting her beauty sleep. With a resigned sigh, she threw back the blankets, sat up with a groan. "You know what? I'm actually not that tired? I'm going to take a walk." She said, the first part an evident lie from the way she kept fighting back yawns.

It had been over two months since she'd managed to sleep past three am...Between insomnia, stupid voices, and nightmares, she was batting a thousand when it came to this. Shaking her head, she slipped on her shoes, made her way downstairs.

Ambrose nodded, then snapped his fingers. "You know what? Why don't we play twenty questions?" He asked, wanting to know more about her but not make it too obvious. Of course, then again, there wasn't much that was more obvious than berating a girl with personal questions...Oh well.

Night sighed following Danni down the stairs. What ever was haunting Danni was starting to annoy Night. He was raging inside to find whatever it was and end it quickly so Danni could be at peace again. "Alright I'll go with you ... I always do anyway."

Lin paused momentarily as she thought about Ambrose's words. She didn't know what Ambrose was talking about, so she thought she misheard him somehow. With her exceptional ears and hearing, that hardly ever happened, but she honestly did not know what he was talking about.

Her forehead scrunched up ever so slightly in confusion. It was obvious she was thinking hard, trying to use her quick brain to figure out what Ambrose was talking about.

"I'm sorry Ambrose, but I must have misheard you. Play what?"

"And I'll never cease to enjoy your company." She assured him, pulling on her cloak and whistling for Moe, who came eagerly to her side, tail thumping. She left the house, shutting the door quietly behind her, the pre-dawn darkness making her sigh. For a long time she said nothing, merely walked, as she did most nights, around the forest's edge, just outside the reach of the tree's shadows.

Finally, she spoke, and when she did,her voice was sad, full of regret. "Do you know, Night, why I'm such a big deal down in hell? Why people either love me or want me dead, nothing in between?" Without waiting for an answer, not even expecting one, she continued, "It's because I've accepted a mission. The mission of a lifetime, the things legends are made of. Ten years ago, on the night of my fourth birthday, I was locked away in the basement for what I'd become. That's when the voices came the first time. I thought it was a dream..." She trailed off, was silent for a minute or two, then began talking again.

"There's a legend, you know. A legend, or a prophecy you could say, of the warrior who fights for the Ancients. It goes, 'in an infinite battle between Satan and the Ancients, one warrior shall be chosen among many. This warrior shall be the deciding factor, the end of the war should they succeed. Using Book, Sword, Scroll, and skill, they shall rise up against Satan himself. When all four are used with equal expertise against the devil, the warrior shall accomplish a feat that's been attempted for millions of years. Drawing from the last of their life forces, combined with the awesome power of the Ancients, the warrior shall use their final breath, their final strike, to smite Satan, and put the Ancients in contol of Hell once more, as it was before Satan appeared. And though the warrior shall perish as well, they shall be honored forever, worshipped as a demi-god and remembered for all eternity as the one who gave their life to assassinate Satan.'"

Shrugging her shoulders, Danni looked up at the stars. "I'm the warrior, in case you didn't notice. Ten years ago I made a pact, an unbreakable oath, to fight for the Ancients, to learn their sacred arts and defeat the one who rose against them...I'm fated to die. And that fate...The voices in my head have been getting louder lately. The time is quickly coming for me to fulfill my part of the pact...Damn it, I was four and desperate when I gave the blood oath, and now, after I've learned what any of it means...Do I not deserve to be able to live with everyone, Night? Is that it? Is my existence so worthless that the only thing I can do to benefit mankind is die?" She demanded, her head aching as it pounded.

"Twenty questions, or a version of it." Ambrose said, then cursed himself for a fool at her blank look. "Ah, you don't...know what that is. Well, I ask a bunch of questions about you, and you ask a bunch about me. This way, we get to have fun and learn about each other at the same time." He said, suddenly feeling a bit stupid for suggesting it.

Lin's eyes widened and she was actually bouncing ever so slightly but also gracefully. Her feet didn't make a sound on the floor even though she was bouncing quite a lot. She even had the palms of her hands resting against each other and had them held below her chin. She tried to be mature most of the time, but when a game was involved with learning and also discovering more about a friend, well, that was just absolutely perfect!

"Oh Ambrose! That sounds positively enchanting! It sounds like the perfect game for me!"

She quickly grabbed his hand and pulled him off to the side of the kitchen and over to the living room on the other side of the front section of the house ((is it ok that I did this, Mitsuki? I just thought it'd be faster, but I can change it if you want if you wouldn't have Ambrose follow)).

She then sat on a small and intricately-designed couch made of strong wood and small cushions. They looked merely for decoration, but the amazing and completely surprising thing was, was that it was actually extremely comfortable once you sat on it. The cushions were filled with many feathers given freely from birds and the strong wood supported the back perfectly.

Once sitting, Lin gestured to the spot beside her and then to one of the similarly-designed chairs, meaning that Ambrose could sit wherever he wished.

"Let's begin! Since this was your wonderful idea, I think you should go first!"

Her eyes were positively sparkling with excitement.
