A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny - This book is at the top of my list. What would you do if you knew that characters from various famous horror stories and their animal familiars were part of a secret society centered around a ritual to open a gate for the elder gods? Would you join the Game? Would you spend dark nights hunting for ingredients and information and calculating how the other players affect the Game? And which would you chose: to open or to close the gate?
The Book of Atrus by Rand and Robyn Miller - The first of the books to accompany the Myst game series. I usually shun game books, but I read this book orignally without realizing its connection to the game and was sucked into the deep and compelling story. It describes an interesting world that is moving and quite dark at times. Everyone I mention in to whom have actually read it were also pleasantly surprised and quite enthusiastic about the book.
The Legend of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert - One of my favorite books, a light fantasy about a thief who ends up having to babysit a naive prince. It is a very funny book and a good story.
These are my three favorite books, and I mention them because I know that they will lead you to read other books by the same authors (in the case of The Book of Atrus, I assure you that you will want to finish the trilogy once you start it).
I also recommend any book by T.A. Barron, particularly The Lost Years of Merlin series.
A good book series for a younger audience but that I still enjoy today begins with the book The Children of Green Knowe by L. M. Boston and Peter Boston. It's about a manor called Green Knowe, its mystical inhabitants, and its magical and dark history.

Moonlight_shadow434 Kaya Tetsu List of good reading: Books by Eoin Colfer Protector of the small series by Tamora Pierce Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling The Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paoloni (I think I spelled some of that wrong and this is just a list off the top of my head) Wow! eek You managed to name some of my favorite series! But I have a couple of suggestions. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke Inkspell by Cornelia Funke The Theif Lord by Cornelia Funke The Secret of Dragonhome ?!!!! These are also a few of my personal favorites as well as Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King. Surely you're not serious my dear Moonlight_shadow, that book, was a disgrace. The book about the girl and her brother, and where people have "talents." the girl can speak to animals?!? That was terrible book, terrible, made terrible by the ending ofcourse!!! I have'nt looked hard, but I would assume that there must be a part two, because that ending was horrendous.

insanityqueen .... eldest n earagon <... havent read them yet but i know these are amazing books! Are you serious? you cant have an oppinion about something you dont know about. I have read both, and while I wasn't tickled pink, I will say that they are okay. If it were a project at a WRITERS SCHOOL, I would give theis a C+ (anyone who wants to know why, in detail, pm me. I'll let you know, but to avoid casting my opinions on those who have'nt read them yet, I prefer not to post it hear) This book was not something that I would call "amazing" just "good, I guess." SInce I was able to predict book one from beginning to end, seriously. the only thing that I got wrong was I didn't predict the part where he got his forutne told and Angelas says an "epic love with a royal person" *highlight for details* Other than that...yeah. eldest, all the major parts I predicted to the letter. I knew their was another rider somewhere, I knew Murtagh wasn't dead. I knew the twins were evil from the get-go and I knew that where ever Murtagh was at, he had gotten a dragon.

I suggest Alice Borchardt's The Silver Wolf. In my opinion, its the best book ever. I mean, you actually know the characer Regeane, and the struggles she goes through, her life, it's very real to me.

The books I suggest are: "The Fionavar Tapestry" by Guy Gavriel Kay. The book is good for any Fantasy fan.
"The Sword of Truth" Series by Terry Goodkind. It starts with the book "The Wizards First Rule" and is probably one of the most addicting Fantasy series I have read.
"The Dragon Prince" and "Dragon Star" series by Melanie Rawn. They are both in the same series, just under two names. This is good for any lover of Dragons, war and sorcery.
"The Death Gate Cycle" series by Margret Weis & Tracy Hickman. This was one of my first fantasy series. It is entertaining and full of plot twists!
"Dragonsbane" by Barbara Hambly. This is still one of my favorite dragon book fantasy classics.
And
"Mask of the Sorcerer" by Darrell Schweitzer. This was a book bought to pass time, but it was a creation of pure genius. So many twists and turns take place that by the end of the book you're left wide eyed!
These books are mainly adult fantasy books, I do not suggest them to anyone under 14 or so.

The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.
It's about a queen lady and this thief guy. He sneaks around her castle, so she gets pissed and catches him. She then has his hand lopped off for stealing from her and sends him back to his kingdom, where he's some kind of royal thief O.o
This book is cool because it's set in a Roman Empire-like time, except they have guns. So, it's cool ^_^ There are some twists in the story too. I enjoyed it.
