Julianne saw the kids' expressions in her rear view mirror, and almost burst into laughter right then. She got herself together, and turned again, saying "Maybe it's this way?"

She knew full well that it WAS that way, but was having WAY too much fun to just let it slide right then.

The little boy pressed his face against the glass of his doors window to try and look farther around the street. "I don't know, do you see any balloons or anything?" he asked.

"Or any big signs? They probably have signs up somewhere." the girl added, moving in her seat to look out her window more as well.

Rebecca smiled and leaned her arm onto the arm rest. "I hope we find it soon... otherwise we'll have to drive all around the city to find it." she said with a smile.

Of course, they would see SOMETHING . . . however, not quite what was intended.

Traffic would soon be stopped to a standstill because of a . . . parade?

Y-ep!! A whole circus parade was going past in front of them . . . and thanks to traffic and people being urged not to stand in the middle of the intersection, they were treated with a front-row view! Clowns, elephants, the whole shebang!

From outside the apartment complex, a shadowy figure made it's way into the view of the cameras. It was a low to the ground sort of form, easily mistaken for a cat or something similar. That was, until the black mass dove forward and slid across the ground like black ink spilling out of a jar.

The black mass moved to the very edge of the wall and pushed itself against the wall. The "head" of the blob glancing in the window next to it. Then it melted back onto the ground and shifted towards the next window.

=======================================

The two children in the back seat soon became all too ecstatic at the sight. They both unbuckled themselves from their seat belts and clamored for the closest view of the show passing before them.

Rebecca grinned and tried not to laugh.

Edmond was interrupted from his movie when an alert sounded. He set his computer on his lap and looked at the security cameras that popped up. "What the hell..." Edmond paused the movie and stood putting his mask on and grabbing his bow. The archer threw a quiver over his shoulder and made his way outside where he could investigate the substance. He would not normally be so reckless but he had just been watching a movie and not really focused on what this thing could be.

As Edmond moved to relocate himself outside, the black liquidy mass continued to move from window to window. It would slink down against the ground, pressing itself flat to avoid being seen by the occasional passer-by, then gloop itself back up to peer through the windows. There it would sit for a minute or two, taking in what was inside the room, then slink back down and move on to the next window.

Eventually, it came across what looked to be an empty room. The mass lifted higher off the ground, then shot forward at the window. It found a crack near the glass, and was now trying to slip itself inside bit by bit. The majority of it still outside the window.

Edmond's curiosity grew when he could not see the creature outside. So he moved inside and stood silently listening. He was listening for any sound he could find but there was none. So he returned to his room not focusing on anything much as he sat back on the couch and continued his movie. His computer was still running the search for the snipers and he was still waiting.

User ImageWith no interruptions, the inky mass easily made it's way into the empty room. There, the mass slid into the middle of the room and up onto the bed. It took the shape of a human, and soon transformed into that of a little girl. The child crawled across the bed towards the night stand and flipped on the lamp. There she took a better inventory of her surroundings, then tried to find out exactly what sort of apartment complex or hotel she had managed to sneak herself into. Not finding the usual little “thank you for visiting (blank)” notebook or card that most hotels had, she began to worry that the room was taken. Frowning, she moved to check what time it was.

Still fairly early... good. She could relax for a bit before she went off to search for... something she supposed. The child frowned again, then slid off the bed to go into the bathroom. When she arrived, she found that she was far too short to see into the mirror. She drew in a deep breath, and her lower half liquified again, allowing her to stretch up onto the counter. She stared at her reflection for a long moment, and her frown deepened. Her hair, which she had always remembered being bright red was growing darker. Her skin was turning a cooler shade, and her bright red eyes had faded into more of a dark brown. Even her dress, which she could barely materialize anymore, was beginning to turn black and inky.

Rosie sighed, then slank back onto the floor. Soon she probably wasn't going to be able to materialize her dress at all. Her hair would probably be fully black too. She was going to be more inky blobby stuff than human anymore. Not that she was a normal little girl to begin with, but afer the Underground Exhibit experimented on her... well now she was going to be just like that other woman, wasn't she? Now she was anyway. If she hadn't snuck out of the building with the other Rosie, she'd still be in her room taking her medication to prevent this. But, she'd been gone all day, and now she couldn't find one of the entrances to the secret laboratory. She couldn't get back there, she couldn't find her mother to try and help her, she couldn't find her grandmother who could definitely help her. She was lost in this yucky city, and the only thing she could think to do was sneak around and try to take care of herself.

Sighing again lightly, she moved towards the doorway to leave the room. Suppose the only thing she could really do right now other than try to get some sleep was to go about getting herself some food or money. Only way she could do that, was to steal it.

Transforming back into the inky mass, she slid herself under the door, and re-formed herself into her human self in the hallway. She glanced back and forth, then began walking down the hall to try and find another empty room to sneak into. Preferably one that someone was living in. Easier to find money that way. She doubted anyone was just going to give her money if she acted all sweet and poor.

When the movie had ended edmond turned of his TV and checked the progress on the search. Only 50% was done. Damn. More waiting. Then the camera popped up again and he saw a black inky figure turn into a little human girl. That explained a lot but at the same time not much. He waited a few seconds, checked to make sure his mask was on, then opened the door directly in front of her. He closed it and looked at the girl. "Hello. Who are you?" Edmond asked bluntly, he was curious and wanted to know.

Rosie had just made it to the next set of doors when the Count had walked out. The girl had checked the hallway to make sure she was alone, then had bent down to begin looking under the door to see if anyone was home. Her hand had just begun to liquify when the door suddenly opened on her. Her hand instantly transformed back into it's normal state, and she fell backwards in surprise. She blinked, seeing the pair of legs in front of her as the door closed again.

”Oh... I-I'm sorry. I'm...” she replied as her eyes traveled up the man's figure. Then took a long pause when she seen the mask on his face. ”....R-Rosie...” she finished quietly. She hadn't expected someone to simply walk out of the room. Let alone someone wearing a mask. Perhaps she had picked the wrong complex to try and raid.

Edmond looked at her then his room then her. He knelt down and tilted his head as he examined the child. "Maybe by name but.... what are you?" Edmond asked. This girl was interesting to him. She seemed pale though, and her hair not as lively as it should be. then there was her dress. It just looked... inky. He stood up strait again and awaited her answer. He was no worlds greatest detective but he was not half bad.

The young girl, not knowing that the man had seen her transform, simply blinked back at him innocently. "Wh.... what do you mean?" she asked, as though she had no idea what he was talking about. "I... I'm a girl. Who are you?"

He hadn't noticed her hand, had he? Surely not. And there was no one about, so he couldn't have seen her. Even if he seen her on security cameras or something, he didn't look anything like a security guard. Maybe he was an alien? Or... something?

"Oh I see your just a girl, alone in a massive apartment complex. Sure... sure." Edmond did not believe a single word she said and he was going to find a way to prove it. But shooting an arrow at her with the slight idea she might turn to ink and it would go through would end very badly if he was wrong. Then he laughed a little. Her question reminded him of something he had seen once."Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask." the Count quoted the movie he had once seen.

Edmond knew he needed to find a way to prove that she was not normal. But he did not want to risk hurting an innocent person. He looked at the roof and saw sprinklers on the hallway ceiling. Ink and water. Ehh it was a solid guess. Then he looked around for a fire alarm but did not walk away.

The child huffed a little at his comment. All that really registered was that he was a man in a mask. The rest of it was hard for her to follow. Standing, she dusted off her dress the best she could without "rippling it"... as she found a few hours ago was a problem for her now. "I'm just walking around..." she said, trying to answer his comment about being alone in a huge complex. "Gets boring just.... sitting inside a room all day." she said, then finally looked up at him.

He was looking away from her, but she didn't catch him looking for the sprinkler system.

Dantes found what he was looking for. So he stood and moved to the opposite wall placing his hand over the fire alarm. "Your right, it does but when you are waiting and for people and searching for criminals it is all the more fun." Edmond said as he pulled down the alarm. Immediately the sprinklers went off probably bad new for any bugs in the hallway he was unaware of but he was not focused on that. He was trying to prove the girl was more than she said she was. If this didn't work he would have his doubts but still have to trust her.
