Now seeing the red in Riley's eyes, and seeing her prepare to strike the portal, Jericho realized that her attacking the damn thing would probably go too far. Especially since... this portal was likely their key to get back home. Quickly, he moved towards her and lunged to try and grab a hold of her forearm to keep her from cleaving the portal in half.

"Wait. Riley," he ushered, "Unless you want to be stuck her for the rest of our lives."

"Stop!"

Malodore flung itself at Riley, hoping to knock her off-balance so she couldn't hit either portal or its associated mechanisms. "That's not going to fix anything! If you break it, we'll all be stuck here!"

It would have, quite literally, taken the efforts of both students to stop Riley from her downward swing. Luckily, they both managed to get in her way. Riley momentarily tried to tug her arm away from Jericho's gasp, before her arms fell and the color faded from her eyes.

Hope. She spat out, more at the portal than anyone else. You talk as if you still have hope. Her eyes drifted back to the same spot where she'd seen Sharra dissapear - an eidetic memory refused to let images like those fade. It was still fresh, and it still burned. Her eyes fluttered down to the scorch marks on the floor, where Lizzy and Charlie's bodies were.

Riley's claws dug into her mace, and her grayed eyes shifted dangerously to glare at Conquest. I bet they had hope. Once.

"We're not dead yet." Malodore's voice was tight. "I'm not going to let my anger invalidate our losses... their sacrifices... per favore, Riley-" It wrapped its arms around her and squeezed, resting its beak wearily on her shoulder. It, too, was tired - wrung out physically, mentally, and emotionally.

But that didn't mean its brain had stopped working entirely.

Narrowing his eyes, Jericho didn't let go of Riley's arm just yet. His wings shifted in a sense that would have been like ruffling feathers if he had any of those. The glance she made towards the traps didn't get past him.

"Is there anything else we have at this point?" he said lowly, "Like Mal said, we're not dead yet. If we give up now, we're dead for sure. If we give up now, their lives will be lost for nothing. Do you want to just throw that away?"

"We're what's left and dammit I'm not going to give up until my body gives out on me."

After several minutes of failing to keep Famine from getting overly handsy, Conquest finally notices the issue with the portal. What remains of the table is flipped over and thrown against a wall and his expression goes from irritation to blank, staring rage.

The portal slowly begins to rise in the air...and then is sent crashing down with terrible force, before rising again. And crashing down. And rising. Like gravity was having a tantrum, or well. Somebody. Those close to him, can hear the boy murmuring, "...ucking moth....fu...r....other..candlejac...g...mother...king rend you piece of..." This continued for a awhile...in several languages.

Remember when it seemed like only Famine was crazy?

Oh. Good.

Malodore glared at Conquest, though it didn't move from its position around Riley. "Do you really think that's going to help matters?" it asked, wearily. It wasn't about to dive at their.... 'friend'... after all, the unstable creature might easily fling the plague doctor back down into a trap.

"We can keep working on it as long as it isn't broken," it said, wincing at the next crash!.

... Though hmm. Had that been a candlejacking thrown in there? Did anyone outside of Halloween Town use that as an epithet?

It was easier to fight a physical opponent, than to fight the comfort that Malodore and Jericho brought to her thoughts. She tried, oh, but she tried. It was a total loss, as she sunk back into Malodore's arms, and wrapped one of her own against the embrace while her other arm pulled Jericho into it. Sometimes, she whispered to them both privately. You both can be absolutely infuriating. While she attempted to inject some form of annoyance in her words, it was clear by her actions that she was anything but actually angry.

Riley's head turned just slightly, looking over Jericho's shoulder as Famine began his tirade. She lifted the arm that had wrapped around Malodore's, and pointed harshly. Look! See! He thinks violence is the answer! I'm beginning to like him more and more.

Aaand then the stupid thing broke. Pretty much. And floating-kid went crazy. "Wonderful," Aksaja muttered. He was pretty pissed too at this point, but he didn't see how flipping tables and all of that s**t was gonna help.

Instead, he walked over to the keypad and pushed the three keys it had said to push for the 'restart', CTRL+ALT+DEL. He had no real clue if that would help at this point since it was going crazy or whatever. But hell, SOMETHING had to be better than nothing, right?

Seeing Riley calm down for sure now, Jericho finally let go, though not before he was pulled into the hug. Smiling now, he embraced the others before glancing over at Conquest as he began fuming off about the portal in a variety of different languages. As amusing as it was, it didn't really bode will for them.

"I have to admit, it's tempting, but it isn't really going to help us out right now," he said before watching the Lightning dragon try to fix the portal, "Uh... is there a power button to this thing anywhere?"

"If he breaks it, then what? We go back into the fog?" Malodore did not want to go back into the fog. At all. "There has to be another option! How did all of these other students get here? Maybe we can use the same method to get out?"

If only Conquest would calm the heck down. "Save your beatings for the candlejacking masterminds you really want to down," the plague doctor shouted, trying to get through to their 'friend'. "If you waste all your energy on this thing... that's what they want you to do!"

Tomoko practically jumped off the floor when the portal hit the floor the first time, her tails puffing up and her heart practically jumping out of her chest. Oh candlejack. These people were nuts!! Either way, Tomoko took a deep breathe and made a point to get up, keeping one arm around Junko to move both of them away from the smash-y, smash-y process that was going on.

Honestly, she would have rather fallen to her death than had to have been smashed by the portal that the...very chinese-inspired dressed boy(?) was smashing about.
...
........

With his mind, she presumed.

"Um...i-I think it's been hit enough times. Can...canweputtheportaldownplease??" Tomoko whimpered, brows furrowing together ever so slightly. She wasn't sure she wanted to approach Conquest, however. He might throw the portal at her.

Conquest

There's a sudden increase in pressure in the room and then...gone. With a small huff, Conquest sets the portal down and begins patting dust off his robes. "...ingrates."

The Portal

Flicker. Flicker. Hum.

"You have one pending translocation. Opening doorway to: Dark Cove."

Conquest

"Tch, you see?" He turned to scowl at the students, Malodore in particular. "Might makes right." And stepped on through without a second thought, Famine skipping in right after.

"It's because you stopped smacking it," Malodore muttered under its breath - though naturally Conquest couldn't hear it, having already stepped through the portal by that time.

The plague doctor took a deep breath and squeezed Riley's shoulders, glancing at Jericho and the others. "Are we ready?"
