"well of course. it's always fun to rile them up once in awhile...and maybe a little bit of affection will also work to stem the tide of emila flooding you for deals about sharing me"

A grin, before looking serious again.

"Yes he's getting some work done on his eye. but I doubt that will keep him down for long. he'll be runnign around and into things playing with it in no time I'm sure, Doctor."

Another small grin.

"So, do you think joey has hyperventalated and died yet?"
PostPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:14 pm

"I could only hope for a miracle of some sorts to help with that problem. Or I could head over to Impression and spend the next three days in the VR room and take 'vacation'. Of course I say that now but one look at my Echoes and I'd rather spend my time back in their enclosures."

Though she allowed herself another laugh. "I'm sure that will be quite the sight, as if her doesn't run into enough things as it is, he'll be adjusting to a new vision pattern. But you have a point, that boy is so pumped full of varying types of nanomachines he seems to never stay down long for anything."

Then she took on that pondering look. "I don't think that he's died yet. Maybe passed himself out and locked down his area for a good long while. I'm sure he'll be fast at work on the Fleet site anyway, trying to undo what you did as well as turning it all back to some information that's actually useful to the Fleet." Then a look at him. "Why? Afraid you won't get to hurt him?"

"Not that at all. I haven't checked the fleet site since, so I don't know what going on with it, or him. But I do intend to break at least one of his hands."

Serious to a fault again.

"You do need to take a vacation. You're going to give yourself a stroke one of these days, and I'm sure between me and Erik we could cover for you. You can't put the Echo world on your shoulders forever."

He kept in time with her, though he did notice a few techs eyeing his mechanical arm with a look of either awe or just a general strange look. What was that all about.

"Did you notice anything else on the fleet site concerning my room?"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 2:23 pm

"Hm? No. Like I said, I didn't watch for very long, I had to start my day and my rounds in the enclosures. I don't have free time to gawk at a computer screen that's showcasing a live video feed of you." She was studying her nails a moment before looking around again and taking delight in her game.

Then she sighed. "And no you and Erik couldn't cover for me. I'm the only one who knows and can access the very genetic codes of my Echoes. I refer to those more often than people seem to think. And I don't let anybody see those genetic structures." Jelena shrugged. "I take off and everything goes stagnant. But really, while your concern for my well being is touching, you know very well that I'm quite healthy." Then she let a heartbeat of silence pass. "Maybe not forever, but as long as I can."

James looked at her, and shook his head lightly.

"That article you showed me, they did get something right. and it's one of the primary reasons I was allowed on the Fleet. I have a secondary, and a lot more offensive, C.O.I.N. system. that fact it got in makes me wonder. We can talk about it more, but lets say for now that there is not one bioware augment or computer device in the fleet I couldn't gain access to or control. It's not a pretty way to do things, and I don't ever want to have to use it, but I can if I needed to."

A look at her.

"I was supposed to the military last line if things went bad here. Of course that's now defunct, since they have no way to command me, and even if they did I have no intention of listening. multiple firewalls and protocol access triggers in my bionics not to mention a signal scrambler mean no goverment gets in my head."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 5:15 pm

"That's a bit disconcerting though, if they're getting their facts right no matter how much we deny things. Means we got rats on the Fleet. Last thing we need is to let the government take full control of us like in the beginning, or for that matter have the military trying to cut deals with us again." Then she shrugged and looked at him.

"So then you're saying that you can even get into my MISSED system, or even more so into the whole Fleet mainframe and totally disable the entire Fleet at once? That's something new..." But not as bad as true facts in a magazine. Actual facts always came before actual pictures.

Jelena looked to him once more and smiled. "Well, at least you have your security up to date. Not to mention the Fleet's own defenses." Defensives of every kind imaginable.

"More than that, Jelena. I can get into your MISSED system, the mainframes for the entire fleet, Roselyn and Rennell, paddocks for all your echoes, the personal computer files of every fleet member, all PAID checkpoints. and when I mean get into, I mean into. as in nothing would be beyond my control. if I hit rennell, his matu and bioware is mine. same as rose. they woudl be puppets on my strings. your Missed woudl give me everything it has, in my bionics. mainframe is the same. I could lock down the fleet so nothing comes in or leaves without my say so."

A sigh.

"Of course, to do that, I have speical syringes with very powerful remote nanomachinces in them in my fingers. they aren't big, nor is there a lot of them. but it doesn't take much."

A small grin.

"Yes, our security is at the max potential it can be. nothing short of myself, Joey, and his accomplices working together is able to crack our computer security without my secondary system. All weapons are at max potential in range and power, and I had secondary emergency power cells to all of our security that operate the second Catalyst throws us out of power."

Then a chuckle.

"Funny thing is, this secondary system works on the goverment too. thier mechanized drone troops or computer uplinks I could own if they tried anything up here. So the goverment doesn't have a military option if push came to shove."

"Good lord, you're a one man take over crew. That's a bit scary to think about really. Those of us with bioware or even a trace amount of nanomachines in us becoming puppets, everyone else basically put at their mercy. Good thing that you're on our side or I'd be one paranoid little scientist shaking in my grav boots."

But she nodded to him as they continued walking, now hitting a transporter for her next target, Innovation. Of course that didn't stop the discussion. "Odd to think how beefed up the Fleet is in all it's defenses yet we don't want anything to do with it really. I think that if we could go without them, Radiance would call out the order to scrap them. But it's just not like that these days."

Jelena came to a stop, turning her head to look out one of the ship ports. Of course, she could see a few Fleet cruisers, of course Radiance. Then the Earth below, looking so harmless and much like nothing more than a marble. Yeah a deadly marble. "You ever miss it?"

He listened to her, and a small grin formed at her quaking in her gravboots comment.

"There are times I've wanted to use it on Rennell, let me tell you."

Then followed her gaze, and his face got hard, and serious.

"No. Not in the least. Nothing down there but frightened kids and boys playing war. the government wants everything under it's thumb, and the churches all want things thier way or the highway, and of course the science community has used you as a lightning rod for all thier fears, thier afriad of what your echoes present, and what the bioware presents. face it. if you can make a dragon, and they can create and keep myself, rennell, roselyn and the others capable of doing anything we coudl before, then several fields just foudn themselves obsolete."

A look at her as they went tot eh next port of call.

"And god forbid they bend to you."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 6:00 pm

"You know, I haven't been back since I got the go ahead for Echo. Erik does anything that needs to be done down there. You can only take being laughed off stage by the entirety of your peers once, than you very much. If I had my way I would get Cognizance to erase out all the memories. But no...they won't do that."

She shrugged and took to walking again. "I think it's funny. My Project is the youngest in the fleet yet I still take the most heat out of all the other Project Leaders." A shrug. "You know, I always thought that getting the permission to have Envision as my Project headquarters meant that I didn't have to deal with all the Earth issues anymore. Boy was I wrong."

Quiet for a good two minutes. "I'm sure that even if they needed me, or the other Projects...they would be surprised if we refused to help them. That's their ignorance."

"Oh of course. I coudl see it. they'd need our help, you'd refuse, they'd get uppity, the government would declare a small invasion and call us all traitors. then I'd personally hand them thier collective asses when those unmanned drones and thier entire communcations suddenly belonged to me. Then they'd be nice and friendly again..and the science ommunity woudl say this is all a reason why you should never have been here in teh first place."

Once again that serious tone. you coudl almost see teh picture wheel in James' head about it.

"And I wouldn't touch that memory, Jelena. it's memories like that which makes you try harder to prove them wrong. strengthens your resolve. with my size, I was told that I was wasting my life picking communications in teh service. that I was a waste of physical talent better put to use elsewhere. Now if I want to I could sell thier most private, dirty secrets on the black market becuase there's nothing they got anymore that can stop me from taking thier communications away. Just to show them how 'useless' my choice was I keep myself on teh razor edge of technology. if I don't have it, it doesn't exist as far as comms."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 6:55 pm

"That is assuming they get past Fleet Defense first. Honestly, I think they barely know what we do up here anymore or what we are truly capable of. Sure, things could be like in the articles, all nothing but impending doom. We all just chose to go the opposite routes. And you can believe me because this comes from a woman who would pet one of those apparently ferocious Fenrirs. They're by far the deadliest of my Echos. Dragons would give them a run for their money if I could get them bigger thought."

Ah yes, it was always Echoes, always work with her in some aspect or another. Then again that was her life and that was all that there was to it really. Then she continued walking briskly now. "You know, I almost volunteered as a Project Metamorphosis candidate."

"really? what were you thinking of having done?"

That was news to him, the rest of it he nodded and agreed to. they really didn't know what was going on around here, and even if they did they'd try to twist it around. provided they coudl get past Fleet defense to even have a shot at finding anything out. But her thinking about being part of Meta? that was news to him. and he was getting used to the gasps and grumblings and grouping in corners as they were doing while planning to share or take.

"I never thought you would have considered being part of our project."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:27 pm

Jelena nodded. "Yes, though I had no specific thoughts on what I would get done at the time. I had just turned twenty I believe, it was after my apparent blunder at the conference. Mind you Envision wasn't ready for Project support yet. I knew about the Fleet and from that one conference experience I became the black sheep of the scientific community. And I wanted out and I was considering doing anything to get off of Earth and into Fleet. Metamorphosis was still in full operation at the time and it seemed my ticket."

Then she laughed lightly at the nostalgia of it. "Erik talked me out of it. He spoke of," she quoted the air, "our plan. I was to become a leader in an untouched field of science and he was to ride my coat tales so he could be lazy and high up all at the same time. He spoke of it all in humor but he told me of Envision which would be up for grabs soon, and maybe I'd have a chance with Fleet Commission. Sure enough a year later I got Envision for my Project Echo."

James listened and remembered that time.

"I remember then. I'd actually watched when you got laughed off the stage. I was infuriated. True, the creation of mythological beasts really didn't affect me at all, but the idea of creating a living being, especially one so wonderous as a mythical beast, was not something to be laughed at. it was somethign to be admired, for the ingenuity and the sheer genius of being able to do it. Not to mention, to myself..it almost sounded like a way back for those of is in Metamorph. after all if you coudl recreate a myth, remaking a human body might be easy."

A slight grin.

"Many of the Metamorph participants sent in petitions to allow you to have Envision for your Echo project. some were unhappy with thier augments, others who were there didn't really want them but they realized it was a good thing to have. most of them were amputees. they also thought if you coudl get Echo to work, then maybe they could get livign replacements fo limbs or go back to being entirely human if they wanted."
