{{Moving to Monday, a school day. You all can retropost scenes you were involved in or not. Up to you. Can't get upset b/c you've all had ample time to finish whatever scene you're in or PM me to let me know why you can't post.}}
Refinement Class...
Evermore had just run to her first class of the day. She had just made it into the room when the soft bell rang three times to alert students and professors to the beginning of the class hour.
When she sat down in her desk in her skirt school uniform, she sighed in relief and sagged momentarily.
However, she quickly jumped and sat up straight when the professor at the front of the classroom hit the top of her teacher's desk with her long slender teacher's pointer stick. The professor stood with perfect posture, perfectly-curled blond locks, and a perfectly-pressed skirt suit. Her name was Miss Simons and she had been the Refinement Class professor for five years. She was the best one Bai Ching had ever had, and also the most strict.
When she spoke, her voice was firm yet soft. She said that a proper young lady never raised her voice unless in danger. That didn't mean that she could not take command of a class, though. Her softly-spoken heated words could make a centaur kneel to the ground in submission. It was true. Some of the students had seen her do so when she had helped the Magical Creatures professor round up some creatures.
"Alright, class. Today we will be reviewing the proper way to sit as well as the proper way to walk. Many of you have forgotten your basics and I will not tolerate this sloppiness."
Her fierce eyes focused on Evermore behind her small, perfect spectacles. "And Miss Evermore, I suggest you leave the cafeteria a few minutes earlier so that you will arrive on time. However, if you cannot arrive on time, then I insist you walk in late as a lady. Of course you will receive a detention slip, but that is better than running in like a handicapped horse."
A few of the other students started to giggle, but Miss Simons quickly rapped the stick on her desk again. Instant silence followed.
Evermore nodded her head and looked at Miss Simons with an apologetic face.
"Yes Miss Simons. I will remember that."
Miss Simons nodded curtly. "Good. Now then everyone, sit as you remember being taught weeks ago."
{{Any student can be in the class if you want to join in. biggrin }}

"KYAAAA!!!!!"
Caroline Enlil raced across the Bai Ching campus, a wind spell powering her at breakneck speeds through the halls
"Inbound on the nine-oh-five!" She set her gaze on her target, the doorway to Refinement Class. When she was younger, her parents and her nanny taught her etiquette... etiquette being a loose term, as her mother had too much a temper to behave properly, her father was a goofball, and the nanny was a good-natured witch who just liked to laugh alongside her when things started going crazy.
She grabbed the edge of the doorway and pivoted, launching herself into the classroom. Several feet in, she realized - she was going to crash into someone! Caroline stuck her hand out and jumped, somersaulting over the girl's desk that she was about to collide with, her uniform skirt flaring out and obeying gravity.
Caroline didn't really notice.
She hit the floor rolling and did a crouching hop into the next empty seat, her bag falling to the floor and her face flush, her chest heaving up an down, panting. Her shirt collar was partially upturned, her hair was wild and frizzy and clinging to her face, and her shirt was totally untucked, buttoned wrong, and not buttoned at all for two inches at the top.
"Good... morning...."
She looked next to her.
"Sorry Evermore."

Evermore bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing at Caroline's entrance. Pretty sure that had just made her morning. She really needed that. Also, it took the pressure off of her now. But, as Miss Simons approached Caroline's desk, Ever proceeded to scoot over as much as she could, away from Caroline's desk, which was right beside hers.
Miss Simons looked down at the young woman over the top rim of her spectacles and her perfect red lips were pursed slightly.
"Miss Caroline Enlil, I resume?"

Completely oblivious to any signs of danger in the future, Caroline grinned and flashed a peace sign. "The one and only! What's up? Havin' a good morning?"

Miss Simons' facial expression did not change, which made Evermore actually wince slightly.
Miss Simons spoke again in her soft, firm voice. "I believe you arrived at Bai Ching yesterday, Miss Caroline. I was informed of your greenhouse incident, so I did not expect you until today. However, I would like to know why you are late arriving to your first class. It makes for a very poor first impression."

Caroline's hand slowly wilted down to the desk, and her expression turned neutral. She.... she had heard this tone of voice before. It came from people expected to be in control. It was soft-spoken, even gentle, but still very forceful. It was... the voice of someone trying to make you act a certain way. Ugh.
The young dragon sat back in her chair.
"Why I am late is neither here nor there, Miss Simons. It is a minimal loss of time. I am here now, and there is still class to be had."
Poor first impression, her a**. Good luck trying to guilt her into submission.

Ever looked around the classroom, trying to find another desk to sit in. Dammit, there weren't any!
Miss Simons simply arched an elegant eyebrow at Caroline's words. "I see. Well since you seem to think you know what is best and most important for this class, then why don't you fill us all in as to what you know about refinement?"
She stood to the side and gestured up to the front of the classroom. "Please, share with us all."

Caroline blinked in surprise, and wordlessly stood up and walked to the front of class. For all her awful morning appearance, she appeared a lot more composed than she was barreling into the class.
She curtsied - perfectly, a gentle dip. "Good morning, class." Her voice, when she was actually speaking as softly as Miss Simons, had an English accent.
"Everything I know about refinement, I learned from my dear family. Refinement is the process of removing impurities from a substance - say, glass. A refined lady is like a pristine piece of crystal glass. She is smooth and sparkling, versatile - suitable for the finest occasion or a simple one."
"However, the most awe-inspiring glass is that which is unrefined. Chemical impurities such as metal oxides, and physical impurities such as an uneven surface are what make stained glass and sea glass so beautiful. Far more beautiful, and far more full of life and character than crystal glass. No two pieces of sea glass are the same. Every section of stained glass, when made by hand, is different."
She looked up, ignoring Miss Simons' gaze - she didn't particularly care for that woman's approval, or of anyone else's, really. This was what she knew about refinement - it was bulshit.
"I prefer the unrefined. The raw character, the natural state, the primordial chaos, even. When everything is perfect, and clear, and orderly..." she cringed, and shook her head. "Eugh."
"Look, if anyone tells you that you have impurities, that you have to be 'fixed' or 'made better', or that you're not acting like a little lady should - to hell with that s**t! Even for dragons, life is too damn short to be wasting on table placements, on learning how to walk straight or talk like a friggin' queen. Being a lady is for pussies who are too damn scared to live like themselves!!"

Miss Simons listened to Caroline and then nodded when she was done.
"You make a very good point with unrefined minerals and rocks, Miss Caroline. I, too, agree that they are much more attractive and useful. It is almost a pity that we are not rocks."
Some of the girls in class began to giggle at their professor's response, but they immediately stopped when Miss Simons held up her hand to them. She was still looking at Caroline.
"I also would assume, Miss Caroline, that you know the newest of rocks do not contain nearly as many minerals as older, larger rocks do, correct?"

"By size, and therefore sheer amount, yes..." Caroline was boldly staring right back at her teacher. "But they do contain the same minerals and the same crystalline structure - if we are talking about two of the same kind of rock. And then, the older rocks are so weathered and ugly on the outside that it becomes difficult to see what's inside until you break it."

Miss Simons smiled softly. It was not mocking or sarcastic. It was a real smile, polite.
"They may contain the same type of minerals, Miss Caroline, but larger, older rocks contain more of them. They have had the time to absorb and become layered with more."
"Also, as you said, older rocks can become weathered and ugly. Though, according to your last speech, you said that the weathered rocks that are not smooth and 'perfect' have more character and are, thus, not ugly. They are more interesting."
"Also, if you want to discover what the core essence of the rock is without destroying it, the best way to do that is to polish those rocks and sand their jagged, discolored edges. By doing that, it simply takes away the unnecessary imperfections and reveals the true essence of the rock, the inner core. It allows that rock to shine more and stand out from the other jagged rocks."

Rose sat at the front of her class, smirking to herself. The students were really going to enjoy today's lesson. It even beat out her anger at finding someone planting new things around the grounds without her permission. And most of it was done amateurish at best. But no matter. Today should prove to be an interesting day.
She glided around the classroom, making sure the plants in the middle of each table have been undisturbed for now. "Alright class. Today we will be dealing with plants of a more... Harmful nature. Each plant that you see before you has a special property that can be used in many ways. Do not touch them bare handed. All of them are poisonous, but not deadly. For today, you're just going to study each plant, and learn about why it's poisonous, and what practical uses they can be used for. Tomorrow, you will be quizzed on that knowledge before we move on. By this week's end, I will be expecting each of you to be able to safely identify each plant, and be able to extract the important parts to use for some practical application."
She returned to the front of the class and gave a cold, harsh glare aimed at each one of her students, her foliage bristling slightly. "And be warned. If I hear that ANY of you has used this information for ill intent, you won't be dealing with just the head mistress." Even though she was still in her childish form, every student shrank slightly in fear. But almost as soon as the glare came, it passed, and a smile was on her face again. "Okay class! Let's get started!"

..... Oh, she was good.
"That is a point of opinion Miss Simons, as different folks will always be attracted to different things. I personally prefer my rocks jagged and crusty, with an edge. It's rather a pity we aren't rocks, right?"
Caroline grinned. It wasn't about who was right. It was never about who was right. Both sides were always right in their eyes, so it was pointless. No, it was about who got their word out the best.
"Unfortunately, I still believe that much of what many consider refined behavior is useless. I don't trust those people. I can never trust someone who holds their heart behind a veneer of society's expectations."

In a field not so far away from the school, yet still within the barrier, sat Sensei, the self defence and magic teacher for particularly gifted students who had an incredibly hard time learning to master their element, and Akira. Both sat Indian style and back to back.
Sensei wished to help her most difficult student regain her lost memories as smoothly and painlessly as possible. She knew what the half Demon was going though better than anymore, more or less.
Akira had her eyes closed and was leaning against her teacher, taking deep, steady breaths as she let her mind wander, as she was instructed to do. This was like meditating, but with a much bigger meaning.
The last couple of days had been a real blur for the troubled teenager. She had seen many faces, talked to many strangers, even encountered her so called enemies (they had been completely baffled by the Demon's little reactions to their name calling and actions that they'd given up for the time being.)
Thank the Heavens that Kilala had been there for her, if not, Akira was pretty sure she would have had a mental break down and permanently confined herself to her room.
...Not the best scenario, especially with a war going on.
"Akira, focus!" Sensei snapped suddenly, badly startling her student.
"S-sorry! I'm trying..." She answered softly, slightly embarrassed.
Sensei smiled warmly, not that Akira could see, and replied lightly, attempting to be reassuring, "Honestly, don't jump like a scaredy cat! Have you forgotten what I taught you about self control?...Oh right, you have, hmm...Eh, don't worry about it, just do what I say and we'll get you back to normal in no time."
Akira just raised an eyebrow; surely Sensei didn't talk so...not strictly? Or did she? UGR.
"Relax and trust your instincts, let them guide you to your heart, where all your memories lay, awaiting your summoning." Sensei instructed next.
My heart? I thought my brain held my memories...Well ok, if she says so...

Miss Simons grinned at Caroline, actually grinned, and began to walk toward the front of the class again.
"Exactly right, Miss Caroline. Thank you for reiterating much of what I said. In fact, you have done such a good job and you have so much enthusiasm that I would like you to be my teaching assistant. Yes, I will go see Headmistress Krause this afternoon and have her draw up the papers."
Once she was behind her teacher's desk again, she nodded to Caroline's desk. "Please have a seat again, Miss Caroline. Thank you again for letting us know what you think."
