At this, Ever scowled darkly. Even her eyes began to glow a bright red and her hair was starting to change to red.
"Boy... Boy troubles?! Are you ******** kidding me?!"
Wow, that was not the kind of language Bai Ching ladies were supposed to use, but Ever was quite livid.
"How shallow and immature do you think I am?! Other girls my age might have nothing on their minds besides boys..."
She couldn't help but flick her eyes over to Ari for a moment. It was like her eyes had a mind of their own and they thought Ari was a perfect example of what Ever had just been talking about.
She looked back at Nik quickly.
"But I have much more to think about than silly boys! In fact, I would not be involved with mere boys. They are far too immature. But I have other much-more pressing matters to deal with at the moment."
She didn't realize that she was playing right into Nik's hands. With her need to prove herself as a mature young woman and her desire to rant, she was telling him exactly what was on her mind at the moment.
"What is on my mind is the fact that I am scheduled to meet up with other dancers and a choreographer in a few days to prepare for an upcoming tour with one of the biggest pop groups in the world, and yet I also have a world-saving responsibility here! I am trying to think of how to juggle both!"

Ari resisted the urge to slap Evermore. "... I resent that," Ari murmured, snatching the mug away from Nik for a second so she could have a sip of the coffee. She quickly returned it to him. "You don't know what I'm thinking," she said with a smile, "So don't assume, because when you do, you make an 'a**' out of 'u' and 'me'!" Ari chuckled at her lame joke. Poor Evermore, it seemed like every time she tried to act grown up, she ended up throwing a tantrum and looking more like a spoiled child than anything else. "... and what band would want you?" she asked curiously, genuinely interested.

Quite the temper this one had. It wasn't wise to lose ones temper around someone that could easily use it to their own advantages. "I don't kid, and if I was you wouldn't need to ask." Finally his nails were clean, but now he was feeling quite hungry. Nik didn't want the school's food, he wanted his own, which was much more highly superior to it. "Now as to your question, do you really want me to answer that honestly?" In fact, he really did want to know if she wanted him to answer that. It could be rhetorical, or perhaps she really didn't want to hear his honest opinion about it.
"So your going to leave this troubled school who is just now recovering from a previous confrontation to pursue some frivolous dream? I would think duty to the world would prevail in your mind, at least to myself it would." So this was it, she would be leaving the school for a good while, if she even lived. If he weren't in the middle of the cafeteria he would have clicked his heels together and praised every God in existence. But he was in public, so that wasn't an option.

Caroline stared at the trio arguing. It was amazing. There was never anything like this on television! Her blue eyes flicking back and forth from speaker to speaker, she quietly wrapped her snowy hair around her fingers as this drama unfolded in front of her.
"I feel a barrier around this school," Caroline suddenly announced - she had slept all day yesterday, and had forgotten about the Headmistress's shield around the school. "I don't think Evermore could get out to meet with those people even if she wanted to."
She wasn't attempting to be annoying, but she always did lack a certain level of tactfulness first thing in the morning. "So when did you audition anyways? How long have you had an agent?"

{{Which part? lol.}}
Ever rolled her eyes. "Don't act like you're obsessed with boys, then, Ari, and people won't assume that's all you think about. Maybe if you had stopped following Nik, Nikolaus, and Musica around with puppy dog eyes, others wouldn't have this perception of you. I don't think I'm assuming anything when your actions speak quite loudly themselves."
She chose to ignore Ari's question. She would probably just scoff and roll her eyes.
She looked back to Nik and shook her head. "No, I don't really want you to answer that because I don't need to know if you think I'm thinking about boys or not because I obviously just proved that I'm not. Besides, I know how my mind works and how I have much higher goals in mind, so that is enough for me..."
Yeah, if that was enough for her, then why had she just freaked out back there? Was it because she was a Fury and had a quick temper, or was it that she actually hated others thinking she thought of boys when she didn't? She hated that stereotype and she despised being labeled with it. She hated it even more when girls seemed to live up to that stereotype.
She shook her head to clear her thoughts and focus on what Nik said again. "And maybe you need to clean out your ears now that you're done with your nails. I said I could do both! I just need to schedule my time correctly. That is why I have been lost in thought. I have been trying to decide how I will balance everything and reworking my schedule."
She leaned forward and whispered softly to him with a hint of an edge in her voice. "And you weren't created for one simple purpose in mind. You weren't created to fulfill other people's selfish desires with the intent to only behave like a robot. So don't you even begin to judge what I choose to do with my life. I don't think it's asking too much to be able to have one thing that is mine, one thing that I can have control over. I will still be doing everything I was created for and will work on doing my part to save the world. I'm quite talented at multi-tasking, you know."

((The part about a pop group, because I don't know of anything in story, or even in her profile, that HINTS at such a thing, not to mention I cringed at how shallow, bitchy, and self-absorbed Ever sounded when she said that.))

Ever looked over at Caroline and couldn't help but smile slightly. She liked her questions and direct attitude.
"I'm also working on that part with the barriers. I think I have a pretty good plan. And I auditioned over the summer. No agent. I've just been dancing since I came to Bai Ching two years ago, and I seem to have a natural talent for it. I'm very flexible and coordinated. So I was able to get the job on my own. Since the auditions were open-call, I didn't need an agent to talk with the tour manager to set up an audition for me. No middle man needed."

"You're quite judgmental, you know," Ari said cheerfully, "It's a nasty habit with you, I see. Class A narcissism, that's what you suffer from. At least I know what I want!" Ari laughed, and then yawned. She looked at her watch... Ness would be leaving the Infirmary soon. "... in any case, you didn't answer my question. Are you embarrassed?" She then looked at Caroline.
"We could have used your kick-a** powers yesterday!" she added with a wink and a chuckle.

All right, enough of this talking about her morals. Let her be as shallow and immature as she wants, as long as she leaves. Yes, what a wonderful thing indeed. However, he didn't appreciate her speaking to Ari that way. So what if some girls did think that way, it was their business and no one else. Besides, it all had to do with nature and the whole procreating thing, in fact not thinking about boys could be seen as heresy against nature, but he didn't want to get into all that. "Please, let's not fight anymore. I'm going to talk to the Headmistress about the barrier anyway, I still want out of here. I need to get back to the cafe, and by all means Ever I will drive you to the airport myself." He didn't care if there was slight glee in his voice.
He looked at the cup Ari had set down, then looked over at the girl herself. He reached out a single hand and ran his thumb over the back of her hand. This was what Nikolaus had wanted, and as such Nik wanted as well. It looked as if it might be possible after all.

((I meant like, I didn't remember anything that hinted at Ever being an aspiring dancer in her profile. Threw me off. Didn't realize you were serious about the Backstreet Boys thing... but didn't they disband?)) Sleepy and still somewhat out of it, Caroline looked at Evermore and Ari blankly. "Congrats, Ever, lemme see you dance sometime, okay?"
The dragon girl reached out and rested her hand on Ari's shoulder. She only knew what whatshisface just told her a few minutes ago, and ever then, that didn't click with her. "Just gimme call... next... time..."
Caroline closed her eyes and fell asleep, standing up.

Ari's eyes widened slightly as Nik brushed his thumb over the back of her hand, and then she softened a bit, and smiled at him. His gesture made her scar tingle in a pleasant way. She was then aware of the girl falling asleep on her. 'Seriously?!' she thought to herself, 'Way to ruin a moment, Caroline!' Sighing, she wrapped a hand around the girl's slim shoulders to do her best to keep her from falling over. "Alright, fess up. Who gave her the sleeping pills?"

{{I didn't put it in her profile, but during one of my very first posts, I showed how flexible and agile she was. Perfect characteristics of a dancer. Heck, she even lept off of the 3rd floor banister onto the 2nd floor one. lol.}}
{{And while I really don't agree with how Ever is saying it, I do have to agree with her 'worry' for Ari. I'm worried about that girl.}}
Ever watched with wide eyes as Nik brushed his thumb on the back of Ari's hand and Ari seemed to like it! This was sick!! Did she think so little of herself that she'd just allow Nik to keep playing her like a yoyo?! For once, Ever actually felt very sad for Ari. She truly pitied her, and not in a mean way.
She stood up and shook her head. "Ari, I don't care what you think of me, but do yourself a favor and see the counselor. You have got to get some self confidence and have higher aspirations than going after a guy who has rejected you numerous times and is now playing you like a fiddle. You know what you want? Great. I just wish you had higher aspirations than becoming someone's girlfriend, especially someone who treats you the way he has in the past. Yes, I may be judgemental and all that, but I'm a Fury. It's kind of how I'm made. And at least I would never reduce myself or my dreams to something as small as what you're doing. Do yourself a favor and get some help."
Ever turned to Caroline and smiled. "I'd love for you to see me dance sometime! I'll give you a call and give you free tickets and backstage passes. The tour manager said we could do that. I'm going to go to the hospital wing and check on Akira now. See ya."
She was out of the cafeteria before she could see Caroline fall asleep on her feet. She went to the hospital wing and walked through the door. She waited for the nurse to come over to her so that she could ask her which area Akira was in.
{{And the Backstreet Boys did not disband. They stopped for awhile, but they've been back on again for quite some time. Kevin quit awhile ago, but they're still going!! biggrin They were on Good Morning America just a couple weeks ago.}}

(Personally, I think you're blowing it WAY out of proportion...)
Ari sighed in frustration. Once again, Evermore was assuming. She assumed Ari didn't have plans for the future. She assumed she didn't aspire for more. Just because Ari didn't agree with Evermore's rather pessimistic view on life didn't mean she was in the wrong. Gods above, just because she liked someone meant she was throwing away her future? Ari didn't think so. With another sigh, she resolved to put the tantrum-throwing girl out of her thoughts. "... you're going to help me carry Caroline to her room, ja?" she asked Nik with a laugh, "I don't think I could make it up three flights of stairs!"
