Rescuing the princess is perhaps the most unimportant part of a Mario game ever. Sure, it's the "plot" but it's like being interested in the plot for... well, it's hard to draw a comparison. I guess an action movie. You just wanna see explosions and smile.

Some of those made me laugh though so I'm not sure if you're serious. If you want more unique gameplay experiences, look for them.

I really wish they'd make more fighting games that you don't use button combinations in. When the Wii was announced I was hoping you would push buttons along with motion gestures for combos or something.

Excitebots? Getting first doesn't mean you win the race; you have to have the most points.

I agree with this to a degree. Maybe you should try killer7 (even though it's a shooter) or Flower Sun and Rain. They'll be really fresh experiences.

Everything is pretty standard now though. I wish they would invent new genres again.

I wonder about how hard that would be. It almost feels like everything is covered genre-wise...

At least in Mario and Zelda they update the graphics and the gameplay. Pokemon is still basically in 2D (oh wow the buildings stick out a little bit) and plays almost exactly the same as it always has. And even that wouldn't be that big a deal if they updated the graphics, even just for the battles. The fact that they are still using 2D images of pokemon in battles is kind of ridiculous.
