I am Employed again! surprised TheDisreputableDog Woot! Just noticed the Fiddler Pathways thread. biggrin Since I'm not clever enough to figure out all your other references by myself... xp Although when I finished Kushiel's Avatar earlier this summer part of the book took place in a region on the Western edge of the Caspian Sea ("Sea of Khaspar") whose gods were "Ahura Mazda" and "Angra Mainyu." I thought of you, Fiddler, and wondered what Jacqueline Carey was really talking about. My Pathways thread kinda died... I should finish it at least just to write stuff down, if nothing else comes of it. Yeah, it's still under construction... There are some ideas I have difficulty expressing, especially in English. Older Parthian was so much more expressive for this specific sort of thing. sweatdrop As far as wondering... for most Zoroastrian religions, Ahura Mazda = The Good God and Angra Mainyu = The Evil God. That is horribly simplified, but the general gyst. The faith was the official religion of the Persian empire for Centuries. And as Persia was also a trade juggernaut, it's religion eeked out far and wide as well. 3nodding I should actually comment when I read someone's Pathway thread... that may help, huh... sweatdrop And that Meme is hillarious. blaugh

If you're not familiar with the books, the map of her world looks exactly like ours, and all of the cultures and countries and regions and kingdoms are like looking at our world reflected 5 or 10 degrees. It's not really very hard to figure out which cultures map to which but the twists she takes are sometimes interesting. That was definitely the relationship the two had, so I'm sure she was working from one of the ones that's not yours. Angra Mainyu was pretty awful.

TheDisreputableDog Yeah... It's not really very hard to figure out which cultures map to which but the twists she takes are sometimes interesting. I'll give them a look. 3nodding Quote: That was definitely the relationship the two had, so I'm sure she was working from one of the ones that's not yours. Angra Mainyu was pretty awful. Zarathustra himself held that position... mind you, he was the first mehrish priest to make such an ascertain, but it took off like wildfire. Angra Mainyu (Ahrimann) is pretty awful, even in our own beliefs. He/She/It really is a being of cold, lies, darkness, pain, and disease... things few people would find particularly appealing, and by many standards quite awful. However, we give him/her/it equal billing, and realize that we sorta need cold and dark as well as warm and light... and while malevolent, it's not like Ahrimann is cruel by choice, it is more a function of nature. The Dark One cannot help be be as is. Humanity, however, with the blending of both, can choose how to express themselves. Sorry for musing like that, I'm ironing it out for the pathways section, and seeing myself type helps sometimes.

Nobody in Albuquerque wants to employ a new grad. In fact, everyone pretty much only wants medical personnel. emo Watch me take my shiny new degree and go apply for Hastings. Woo! That's totally what I went to college for. *cough* But it really does look I have to get some kind of retail job or something and hope something better shows up a bit later.
And congrats Fiddler and Deo, and very pretty ink, Kiwi!
