Really, the Iliad was just badly written. I like it, but the ways it tries to explain the battle and the actions therein was just terrible. Maybe it is because of the errors of translation, or the fault of Homer or Homers (depending on the theory you believe in). The Odyssey was written similarly, but the rapid changing of events and locations covered it up rather well.

Nelowulf I don't know.. There was less talk proportionally in Beowulf though. I mean, he arrives, eats dinner, tells a story how he beats a monster in the ocean, and from then until the slaying of grendel of his mother, all dialogue is necessary and minimal. Time passes, and he's killed by a dragon, and the rest is blarg. Perhaps its just that its harder to summarize than the iliad that makes me enjoy it more. Ever read Tolken's essay about Beowulf? and I thought Return of the King was boring.

Connavar Return of the King? 'twas much more eventful than Fellowship of the Ring. That may be true, but my god the book didnt end. The Hobs had the Ring at the Volcano and there was a third of the damn book left! How much do you really need to wrap up?!

Des Voh Cale Darksun Connavar That part did bother me, yes. The movies moreso. There is only so much sappy g'bye music I can stand! Gods, by the end I wanted to throw those damn halfings into Mount Doom with the Ring. The book was better. no arguement there. At least with the book I could write out my anger in the margins and close the book when i couldnt stand it anymore. My options are much more limited in the Theatre.

I loved the books. And the movies. Kinda funny, actually. I loved them, yet I can barely stand the idea of watching or reading them over...
