"Wow, all the yelling and energy and such that I put into everyday and it's only worth two percent on your fancy little gadget there? I don't know whether to be offended by that or take it as a compliment that not only have I managed to outwit the common humanoid, I am not able to fool little machine things as well. Which would be excellent. I think." Waving a hand dismissively about it and sipping at her coffee. She was a bioengineer, not a mechanic. Look at that, he was getting all suckered into his invention. "So...it's a battery that charges with sound?...Isn't that dangerous considering how hard it would be to control input?"

"Point two percent, your whistling didn't even make a percent at all." This was said as he was still looking at the program he managed to create for the little battery. "But if you were to yell into it I think you would of overloaded it and cause it to explode." Smirking at that as he sipped his coffee before he looked toward Jelena when she made a comment about it using sound and controlling the input. "Well yeah that's basically it, and when I plug it in to the rest of what I have planned the device will be able to take that energy and use it as a weapon or other things. Still, this battery is only a prototype, I made it from a tuner used to get a musical instrument into the right pitch; and because it is a prototype is the reason I asked you to whistle, if it took in too much sound way to fast it would of either short out or worse."
But then Pike looked back down at the battery and his forehead suddenly scrunched up in thought. "If I can make a tiny generator or a device that can act like a tuner, then when it picks up sound it should be able to slowly take in any sound and transfer it into energy by storing it, then when it hooks up to something it will also need an output that will be able to regulate the flow of energy, hence why the battery is kind of big." Pike was smiling as he turned off the tuner and then looked to Jelena. "Thanks for helping me test it out." He then grabbed his coffee and took a sip. "So, what are you working on?"

"Excuse me. Point two percent. Again, I still don't know whether I want to be offended or complimented that I could theoretically blow it up by having a fit." She couldn't help but smirk and give a grin and laugh as he continued to babble on happily about his invention. Ah the young techs. She remembered feeling that way. All excited and talking off ears. Success or failure were both welcome in those days." Draining her coffee, she tossed the cup into a nearby trash can and clapped Pike on the back. "Yup, you're going to fit in just fine here. As for me I'm making...hm, how to I want to put this in the least confusing way possible...hm, well, I guess you could say that right now I'm making people parts. Or at least people parts coverings. My main research branch is on hiatus some. You know, the normal gene splicing fun stuff."

A man sat in an office, looking over the metropolis in which he stayed through the large glass windows with the same look a vulture had spotting a dying animal. his hands were casually steepled in front of his face, just watching.
The desk was a shiny black, the chair wingbacked leather. Hardly anyone knew about him, this office...and he liked it that way. He had superiors, and subordinates. his superiors held him at arms length, and his subordinates feared him.
Politics and intrigue were his favorite areas to dabble in. not weapons, or wars...or money in any form it took. Information, blackmail, treachery, and all the substantial power that came with it were his dominion.
FBI, CIA, NSA, Area 51...these were the places he'd honed his talents. roadblocks were removed, or twisted around into his service. hence the reason his superiors keep him at distance. Everything had value. one sentence can shatter a career, or a life, as easily as it can catapault someone to stardom.
He had personally hand picked the Lazerous team, because he knew from their pyschologial profiles how they'd work together and what they'd do to see the job done. Granted they of course were no both in military prison for the rest of their lives, but the result was what mattered.
James Moria had gotten a little more authority. microscopic to most, but it worked. Jelena Trevale, traumatized again, had apparently put her personal projects on hold, and once she was available, was easily convinced into humanoid biological work. Dr. Camp was now with the Fleet, to make sure Jelena was in fit condition.
A little blue light flashed on his desk, and the pressed it, bringing up a display as he swiveled around. the things was displaying rows upon rows of binary code. a slight grin touched his features, and a few taps to the desk that was also a computer station translated it.
It was norrington. he wanted to know when he'd get recovered, and if the mission had proven successful despite the losses. good old insane norrington. his 'mission' was never what was important. it was just the catalyst to get other things in play.
So he obliged, respond with a smooth and rewarding yes his mission to send dna strands from the echoes had worked, though they were disappointed they'd only gotten Fenris. He would be recovered in 'due time' once political upheaval died down. In truth, he had no intention of such stupidity. and the dna they'd gotten had proven to be virtually useless...because it wasn't Fenris they'd been after in the first place. they couldn't care less about a large wolf.
They had wanted the more exotic. things like leviathan, pertyon, hydra, unicorn. chimera. the creatures that had really taken genius and delicate work to create. he ended the transmissions, and got up, walking over to the window and looking down at the people below him, like ants.
Norrington could rot for all he cared. and that might work in his favor. He was a 'living' pandora's box of possibilities. and with all those engineers and techno-geeks and genetic scientists...what might they possibly do with him. what new grafting of genetics and bioware might come from it.
And how could he work it to his advantage.

"Take it as a compliment, I head your fits can get really loud so you would of gotten it to short out if it sat near by when you started screaming at someone. But once i have the real battery working, it should be able to take in your whole fit and use it in a different way; hell you could probably charge it to full if you were to scream for half a day." Pike grinned a little as he handled his battery in his hands, he always loved prototypes, it at least shows he has something in the process toward completion. "Uh, thanks..." He did not expect her to say that, or even clap him on the back, but he took it with a smile. "Well from what I've heard I'm guessing they are keeping you from your regular job due to something that happened awhile ago? But as long as it works then it would be a great benefit for all of us right?"

"I'll let you test the theory once you've worked out the bugs. I could use a good day of imparting terror among those that cross my path. Watch out for James though, he tries to temper me. Dear man thinks he can." She gave a laugh to that but a nod to his thanks. He was probably more normal up here then he would ever be among those that caged their minds on Earth for fear of the possibilites. Or space nausea.
"Actually I was having a self imposed hiatus. Sure, some things happened, some probation was put in place, but I was let back to things eventually. Not the full extent but that's absolving. I'm not on my best game right now. Though I will say...I can feel the gears grinding in my head. I'm sure brilliance will hit me at three am any day now." Grining in an impish way she also gave a laugh. "Benefit comes in many forms up here. Yes."

"Sweet. That will certianly help test it to it's limit, then I can about improving that version later on. Though don't worry, I'll do my best around James." And so Pike was happy, or at least he was happy because he was hyped up on coffee but he couldn't tell the difference.
"Oh, well don't worry, just get through this little job and then you'll suddenly find yourself working with your favortie genetic coding soon enough." Pike grinned to that before giving a nod and saying, "Oh yeah I've had those nights, usually happens when I'm asleep but it makes me keep a pad and paper on my nightstand next to my bed." He had to chuckle though. "I'm glad to hear that Yoda." Smiling to show he meant that in good manners as they were suddenly walking. "Is there any reason as to why they want this people part stuff? I mean I can see some good reasons as to why, but by the way you talk about it it sounds to me as if they have been after it for awhile." Though Pike could be wrong, he has been wrong before and that caused things to blow up in his face, not fun but he learned from those expereinces.

"I can't believe that you're taking me seriously. This is the part where you should be fleeing in terror from me. Or fawning over me. Usually one of the two but you're this strange lukewarm in the middle thing." But a roll of her eyes at his namecalling. Of old old characters no less. "Careful, I'll jump on your back and make you run around doing things. Though you know, that whole Jedi thing was cute. I contemplated the actual field of study derived from the theory of it. But I get distracted much too easily. The whole mental department and weapons development can have that here."
But a tilt of her head at him and his question. Strange indeed. "Because humans are weak and simple minded creatures whom let their baser instincts get to them whether they like it or not. They also are unsatisfied creatures. We want more than we have, by nature, and we will seek to fulfill those wants and needs until we run ourselves into the ground dead."
"Those with bioware want some normalcy to their lives back. Replace what's missing. To touch and to feel, to sense, to appear normal to those around them. Human social conditioning that's genetic of course. We are pack animals whether we like it or not. When you are different from the pack, you are outcasted."

Pike raised an eyebrow at Jelena and paused. "I didn't know that was wrong." He looked at Jelena for a moment as he thought of the words to say. "I don't flee because there is no reason to, you are the head of a project which handles genetics, and from what I've read even trying to de-code someones genetics is tough work. You have every right to get angry if something goes wrong. As for fawning, why should I? You are just doing your job, something which you like to do or you wouldn't even be doing it. There is no reason to kiss you a**, you are just a person." He gave a shrug to all that before smiling a little. "I'm glad to be in the middle. It makes me feel like I'm centered." But he crossed his arms and his eyebrow went up again. "Really? But I don't think I could carry you and go jumping all over the place and such." But Pike listened to Jelena explained how she thought of doing such a thing with her work. "Well you know, maybe I could create something that generates such abilities...hm..." And there went the gears in Pike's head, turning slowly at first but they were going to go faster sooner or later.
"I'm not surprised, and by the way people are running themselves at, they may one day reach a point where they aren't even human anymore and then realize what they have done, but have no choice but to go on." They were walking again and Pike gave a small noise. "I could replace the feeling in my hands if I wanted to, but I rather not. I can see why those who use biowear do so because of those reasons you said or even other reasons; but sometimes one has to be different because there needs to be a sort of difference, if not then no one could go anywhere. It's good to be the same, but it is also good to branch off sometimes."

"My God, he's increadible alturistic. Careful, others will eat you alive. I'm sure you'll learn everything you need to know about fleeing and fawning and what not, whomever it may be, soon enough. Or throw up. Whichever comes first." Which seemed to amuse her easily enough. Talking to this boy was interesting to say the least. "Are you calling me fat? If we didn't have gravity fields, you'd be floating. You could jump forever. Watch your words, I was chasing Joey for a reason."
The new techs were cute though. "You're a step behind Techie. We've already created things that do those fancy once upon a time things. Saber swords are just fancy plasma and telekenesis is indeed real, just amplified with devices, and all powerful bloodstream based bacteria are nanomachines. You yourself were injected with some on your first phsyical exam here. Creepy to think, isn't it?"
But a roll of her shoulders and a slight change in step to correct a limp that had started. Hm, chasing caused aggrivation. Good to remember. "You don't have to preach. Everyone knows that. But I know genetics and those things are encoded into every human. You can't fight them. Unless you're someone like me I suppose." Another shrug though, "Some of us have bioware by choice, some for survival and so on and so forth. We still return to baser instincts."
Pain medication or more coffee would be nice but she was probably already over her limit on such things and didn't really want to endure a lecture from James right now. Unless it ended in a bed and fun activities. But that was another matter. "Have you played with the gravity off yet?"

James loved running the FS boys through this. it was just so damned amusing. he was sitting watching from a control booth, and the FS security playing the role of the infamous 300 spartans, at the battle of thermopolye...or the Hot Gates. making them work as a unit in a phalnax was amusing...seeing as they had sword, shield and spear rather then thier stun guns and batons.
But of course on another screen by him, he was watching Eric and another he was watching Jelena. had to make sure she didn't do anything stupid.

"Well when the time comes I'll learn then I guess." Though he shook his head at her next comment. "Of course not, I just wouldn't be able to jump around because I don't have the ability to do so like in the movie. Though jumping in zero gravity would be awesome." His first experience in zero gravity was fun, even though he was learning how to work in it.
Pike then made a face, that was nice to hear. "Well nertz, that was not what I wanted to hear." He could feel the gears coming to a halt, but then they picked up again. "Yes it is creepy, but you know what? I may build what I have in mind anyway, it will at least keep me occupied and allow me to just build something right? I have already thought of something that can at least use the aspect of telekenesis that allows one to push, so I can do that." He gave a shrug and smiled, he had to build it now he saw no other option.
He noticed how she rolled her shoulders, but decided not to comment on it. But he gave a small nod toward her words and smiled. "Well I'm not really a fighter, a tinker and someone who goes with the flow is basically me in a nut shell." But he looked at her and gave another nod. "Of course, if it comes down to it I would equip myself with bioware as well, but for now as it stands I'm alright. As for instincts...eh." Shrug to that, he was fine with what his body needed, after all he was only human. When Jelena mentioned playing with the gravity off he looked back at her and raised an eyebrow. "No, not yet. Why?"

"I would advise that if you don't need it and you don't want it, then you just leave it alone. Don't let the curiosity get the better of you. Despite how you may think it fun to have a constant power supply implanted into you to use for fun in your own Catalyst things, just don't go there." She knew she wouldn't do the whole bioware thing if she didn't enjoy walking. But she did and thus she'd only midly complain.
"Because you seem to be following me and I either need to get off my feet, literally and completely, or I need to hit the gym for a workout. Or both, which yes can be done. Or a fantastic massage. One of the three of a combination." Would take her mind off of things as well as put and end to the annoyance that was settling bioware. Robert could say she was a whiner all he wanted when it came to bioware settling. She'd even admit to it.

"Trust me Jelena, I know for a fact that I don't need it. I rather work with devices that can give the power to be pressed with my finger tips rather than have it somewhere in my arm." Pike knew if he were to inject those nanos into his hands to loosen them up and place them back to "normal" then he would try and get bioware placed in his body, but he knew he didn't need it and so kept that thought of having his hands healed away.
Pike looked at Jelena and smirked a little. "I'm not following you doc, I'm just having a decent conversation with you which happens to have us walking." That smirk remained as he thought over what she was going to be doing next. "All sound interesting, maybe I could go for a massage or something myself." The combinations sounded good, and Pike was reminded at the same time of how the fleet allowed them to enjoy a lot of different things, it made him feel like he made a good move joining up.

"I'm still calling it following for I am a stride ahead of you and thus in the lead." Just to argue the point that didn't even need arguing. But she did give a little snicker snort. "It gets really interesting when you try to combine all three. And very amusing sometimes too. All depends on who you are. Though if you're looking to do such things there's a list on Radiance about where to get those things. I use the more private owned things for such things. The benefits of a relationship, I would say indeed."
