Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. Perhaps after taking care of so many books it was a bad idea to wander into a place that deliberately sold books. On the other hand, she came here for a very specific reason, and as long as she kept that in mind, her limited nest fund should be safe. Or safe enough, anyway.
She kept her pace steady and her head high to suggest confidence. Her steps were soft enough not to attract attention to her as she made her way to a counter and to someone who looked like they possibly worked here. ... Uh.... actually, while this did seem like a working counter where people could make purchases, she really wasn't confident about who worked here.
Um.... I guess I could look around? Zoe's smile was a bit dry as she turned and began to peruse the books on the shelves, all the while keeping an eye on the people who were around. At the moment, the shop didn't look too occupied or busy. She should be able to find an employee, right?
After a while of looking, and recognizing suddenly that she was tentative about bothering people over something like work, she renewed her look in a different way. She scanned the store again and found, instead, applications in a kind of pocket folder on the wall. She took one of these papers and then excused herself from the building. Perhaps she could pick up others like these, look them over, fill them out, and then return them when it was prudent to do so.
It seemed like a good idea. At the very least, it was a start, and she could come back here at any time to look over the books. Who knows? She might get lucky and find a tome that helps to clarify some aspect of the world, or that otherwise interested her. She didn't have any good novels to read. Ah... next time, next time. Then, maybe before the sun set, she could spend some time by the beach and the water. It had been a long time since she had been able to really enjoy the warm sand of the tropics.
[Exit to: Lune Beach: Beach] And all the poetry in the world finally makes sense to me. Sometimes a dream turns into a dream. Butterflies are flying and I just won't delay

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. The day after her first real day in town and after her first day of work. It had definitely been an experience to see so many couples.... though it was definitely a relief for her to see so many different kinds of people lived here. There were some who were near immortal, there were some who wouldn't live very long at all, and others who were somewhere in the middle of a mortal life. She found that she could tell them apart. Though, perhaps most telling to her was that she could tell the mortality of the fish that lived in the center of the large restaurant.
However! As reward and as a way of encouraging the positive feelings that came from successfully securing a job, Zoe was out with the express purpose of buying a book that she could actually enjoy reading. Encyclopedias and volumes of age-wisdom and the theories of life and death had a tendency to be depressing after a time, and the content of it was so thick that she needed time to take it apart and to really let the information sink in. Besides, she wanted something to laugh at, or something that she didn't need to completely study.
Her eyes scanned the books and the multitude of titles. There were comic books, novels, short stories, poems, coloring books... There was a wide range of titles and generas that gave her plenty to choose from. She found herself circling more specifically in the fantasy section and science fiction. There were a few titles, and summaries that she read, that began to catch her attention, but yet she hesitated about which she wanted to purchase.... After all, until her first paycheck, she only had so much to work with, and perhaps it was her paranoid frugality that stuck with her the most from her past life.
Maybe Summer Home on Saturn... She paused in front of the shelves with her arms folded in front of herself, and she stared as she weighed the pros and cons of purchasing the book.
And all the poetry in the world finally makes sense to me. Sometimes a dream turns into a dream. Butterflies are flying and I just won't delay

❝ If there ever comes a day where we can't be together xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - keep me in your heart. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I'll stay there forever. ❞
The book store alerted people of a new customer with a bell connected to the door. It made Philip grin. He thought it was cute. Frankly, he was surprised that this large city allowed him to find this building in the first place. It was so big. And...new-ish. There didn't seem to be a lot of dirt on the streets. The people kept it clean. It made him feel good. What also made him feel good was the atmosphere. Not just in the city, but in the bookstore. For starters, it was very warm inside. Philip had no objections to that. Cold outside meant a turn up in the heaters so people were cozier. No problems, there! His clothing certainly helped, too. The man made his way gingerly down each isle, eyes taking in each and every selection. They had everything. Hardcovers, paperbacks, thrillers, horros, romances, adventures, suspense novels, science fiction, fantasy, philosiphical, self-help, graphic novels, comics, drawing books, and even CDs and movies.
Seemed to him like this place was probably going to become own little home, much to his wallet's chagrin. He was sure that things were going to be fine, though. Philip wasn't worried about all that. So long as he had something good to read, and people to talk to, he was fine. Although, that second part put him a bit on edge. This city was filled with people. How would they take a liking to him? Making friends in new places was always hard for him. He wasn't an outcast, and certainly not weird. It wasn't that he was shy, or anything of the sort, either. Getting to know people was difficult. He put trust in people before, and they had harmed him.
Clearing his mind of potentially vile thoughts, Philip stopped at the science fiction section of the bookstore. There was a single other person there, looking at books. She was facing the opposite direction. He glanced at her quickly before taking a look at the novels placed there, eyes gleaming with excitement. They had so many PKD books. How wonderful. Philip hoped he could find Isaac Asimov, too. However, there was one book in particular he was looking for. Finding himself growing ever closer to the stranger, he stopped and passed her only a few feet before realizing the book he wanted was a shelf below where she was staring. Awkwardly, Philip got on his knees and picked it out, smiling. "Flowers for Algernon..." Long ago, he had begun reading it. Due to an unfortunate series of events, though, the book was lost and he forgot all about it. Philip had been meaning to buy it and look into it again because he enjoyed it so much, but time only seemed to escape him. Right next to Zoe's book was another that caught his interest. He popped up quickly. Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. He had begun reading and lost that, too. Philip picked it out before realizing he was right in front of the woman, probably blocking her view. Cradling his thermos in his arm and holding the books in his other, he stepped back and apologized quickly with warm cheeks. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to block your way." He smiled kindly at her, being suddenly hit with the feeling that the both of them had a lot of things in common. The suspicion permeated into a full on vision of her suspected past life and current, which just left him staring blankly at her, surprised.

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. Vaguely sensing the presence of another, and guessing that he was looking for something. She shifted a bit, taking a half step back when he knelt. When he moved again, she moved just enough to be out of his way. Her mind was still distracted with the question of which book to buy. There were a few on the shelves, and while she still pondered whether she could limit herself to just one book or if she would end up leaving the bookstore with two.
Zoe became particularly distracted when the individual stepped into her line of sight. Concerned that she was in the way, she took a step backwards, which gave her full sight of the stranger's back for a few moments. But soon enough, he noticed her presence and promptly apologized for being there.
She smiled in turn and shook her head. "No, it's alright."
Though, it caught her attention in an interesting way to see that the energies and strength of this individual was peculiarly stagnant. He was not alive, for that energy would have seemed to grow slightly and would fluctuate. However.... what she saw and for a moment was caught off guard about was that he.... seemed so much like herself. But how was that possible?
She shook it off. It probably wasn't any of her business. She took another step back, and as she didn't have anything in her arms, she awkwardly stuck her hands into her pockets and looked down. "I couldn't decide on a book anyway, so.... I probably shouldn't have just been standing in the way like I was."
And all the poetry in the world finally makes sense to me. Sometimes a dream turns into a dream. Butterflies are flying and I just won't delay

"No, it's fine, really!" He laughed softly and scratched his head, clearing his throat. Bookstores were made for browsing, and that meant proper aisle way etiquette. He obviously needed to look over the handbook. Hearing that the girl couldn't decide on a book, Philip blinked in surprise and nodded, speaking up. "There really isn't any other place to stand though, now is there? But if it's any consolation..." He paused and jut out the books in his hands, showing them to her. "From what I remember, these books are great. I never actually finished them. I recommend them highly, if you haven't taken a look." He looked down at the covers of these books and ran his thumb along the spines, placing them at the top of the shelf for a moment to open up his thermos and sip at his still warm coffee. Philip glanced back over at Zoe and noticed she was quite a bit shorter than him. He was tall, even for the average male. Awkwardly, the male extended his hand to her, cheeks pink in slight embarrassment. "Well, ah - anyways, my name is Phillip Heidegger Sioux. It's nice to meet you. Are science fiction and fantasy books your genre of choice?" His eyes went back to the book selection.
Science-fiction and Fantasy was a great genre. Amazing, even. He could read it all day every day if he so wished. However, it wasn't his favorite, and he even found it hard to distinguish between which he liked best. Mystery novels were also incredibly stimulating to his mind. Historical fiction was great, too. Philip especially enjoyed books such as The Help, Pride and Prejudice, A Tale of Two Cities, Les Miserables, and The Poisonwood Bible. Those were only some of the few he'd read and could recall quickly. There were so many others out there. Horror and Thriller genres also caught his eye - but he hadn't read enough to actually say what books he preferred.

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. His tone suggested that he was not bothered or irritated by the situation, which did help make the exchange and conversation easier. And he was right about the aisles... being what they were, they probably weren't the easiest places to evade. Zoe lifted her eyes and saw for herself the books that he was carrying with him. Curiosity led her to browsing the titles and looking over the words and ideas with them. As she read, her fingers carefully grazed the words. These were the titles of mysteries. She took mental note of them as possible reading choices, as she found herself rather curious about what they were about.
She withdrew from them to look up at him. He was a tall fellow, wasn't he? His light brown eyes seemed to be looking elsewhere in the moment he gathered his books together again and held a hand out to her and properly introduced himself. She took his hand and gave it a sound shake. Almost immediately, it caught her attention how still his hand was to the touch. The other hands that she had shook seemed to have a pulse beneath them, and she could feel the circulation of warmth. Instead, and on feeling his hand, it seemed more the sensation that she was used to feeling. Normal. Or... perhaps the sense that she felt within herself? Her lack of pulse reflected in him?
"Pleasure to meet you, Philip." She didn't let her observations overtake her expression. They were just meeting for the first time. "I'm Zoe Soren. And... yes, I do enjoy a good fiction now and again. I guess I like getting lost in the adventures they tend to have. It's fun to imagine myself somewhere else sometimes."
She released her hand when it seemed that the process of shaking one's hand in introduction had reached proper duration. It would probably be a bit awkward to hold his hand for too long, even to confirm that what she thought she felt was right.
"Were you looking for something particular in this section?"

When they shook hands, Philip pressed his lips together. She didn't have a pulse. Her hand was cold. His expression soon fell, however. Into a brilliant smile at hearing his name come from her lips. Zoe, was her name. That was lovely. She did enjoy fiction. Her explanation as to why she read what she read made him nod in affirmation, understanding where Zoe was coming from. Any avid reader could tell you that your favorite books transported you into a different realm entirely. You weren't just in a room, huddled up in covers. You were in a vale with your fellow people, sharing a cup of ale with cheeses and roasts. All to get away from reality. If his premonition held true, the both of them knew how awful the real world could get.
"Just these two books, actually. I've been meaning to read them...What about you? Might I ask what book you were looking at?" Philip smiled and turned to stand by her side, towering over her small figure ostensibly dominantly, yet it didn't feel that way. His presence was calm and kind, like that one of a gentle giant. His eyes scanned over the shelf he assumed she was staring at before he got in her way, wondering what specific book would catch her fancy.

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. Thus introduced so that they were no longer strangers, Zoe's smile and attention shifted to the question that he had set before her. After he moved to her side, she drifted forward and lifted up two books from the shelves. One of which seemed to be a kind of modern fantasy from an author that her family had highly recommended and enjoyed that followed the work of a wizard who assisted the Chicago Police Department with the mysteries they were not equipped to solve. A one, Mr. Dresden. She had never gotten around to reading it, so now seemed to be the best time for it.
"This one... Storm Front, I heard was a good read and a funny one, too." She shifted the book with the picture of a man in wide-brimmed hat and large coat out of the way in favor of what appeared to be a city not unlike one of the large cities of the mainland, with a large blue moon to the left of the skyscrapers and also above the towers and opposite of the city and a bridge leading the reader to the city itself. The title of the second book read 'Becoming Human.' "However... this one seemed interesting, too..."
Then again, the book that had the picture of a knight riding a dinosaur was a close contestant in the process. That was still on the shelves for now, however. "I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time choosing."
She seemed to frown a little bit at this, as though to suggest that she was just a bit disappointed with herself. However, was this reasonable when she kept in mind that every time she went to select a book, she ended up staring in awe and wonder and would inevitably take ten minutes longer just to make the decision? Probably not. Ah, but such it was.
"I think I'm leaning more toward the Dresden Files, myself, as I've heard good things about the series."

Philip looked at her book selection, picking up an extra copy from the shelf to read the synopsis. He kept an open ear as she spoke, eyes tracing each and every line as well as crevice on the paper. Dresdon, hm? He smiled. It reminded him of Slaughterhouse Five. Such a great book...He truly thought it was a shame that more people didn't know about it. The discraced spirit had originally picked up the book during his teenage years. However, because of his domestic turmoil, he never picked it up again. It seemed like Philip had formed a habit of doing that. He wasn't sure what to think of it.
"I'm a bit biased towards the name Dresden myself, I'm afraid." He smile brightly and put the book back, drinking some more of his coffee. "Regardless of what you choose, I'd love to know how you like it when you're finished. That is, if we see each other again." The man understood how those words could have come off as too forward and forthcoming, but he was only being honest. Zoe seemed so kind. They both also liked to read, so there was no reason he wouldn't be seeing her here in the first place. Hopefully, at least. Philip felt like they had something in common. He hadn't the slightest idea what, or who she was - but found himself not able to keep her face out of his mind. Why was she so familiar? Was it the name?
"Considering how new I am to the city, I don't think I'll be finding my way around anywhere else but here. I like it, though. Bookstores are a home away from home. Bury your mind in a good novel and I imagine you won't miss the day passing you by for a single instant."

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. With the general support being given to Dresden, the second-place book was returned to the shelf. Later, perhaps, she would return to pick it up, but for now one book would do. With selection in hand, she felt that she was better able to relax.
Zoe didn't immediately think of the words as too forward until she reflected on it herself. However, as it was followed by disclosing how he was new and found comfort in bookstores, she felt she could better understand the context of his words. Odds were that they could, or would, probably find themselves meeting again at the bookstore.
This was an encouraging thought for her with the idea that he understood the joy of reading as well as the kind of joy that came from having a face to recognize in a new place. "You too?"
Her smile spread, and though it was gentle, it suggested understanding. "When did you move into town?"

"Let's see," He started, tapping his chin. "Just yeserday?" Philip cracked a smile. "Today is pretty much my first day. I'm enjoying it very much so far. Found a great book, met someone interesting, and even new here, just like me. It's looking lovely so far," Philip drifted off speaking absentmindedly, the bright smile never leaving his face. He didn't find himself looking into the future too often, and on the off chance that he did, it was about things of little impact to him. He thought that maybe she would give him a reason to. Friends were always so good at that.
When you were dead, your future was never put into question. Just your past. There was nary a night where Philip would wake up cold as ice, with frost accumulating at his fingertips as he thought about what life would be like for him in a few years. He dreampt only about how it would get better, and how meeting other people would make up for the chilliness in his heart and soul. You had to move a lot when the people you've spent so much time with began to die. He didn't want to be around that. And although it broke his heart to sever those ties, he knew it had to happen. That was the only sad part about thinking of the future. When would he outlive everyone else?
"May I ask what specifically brings you to Soleil? I've never lived in a beach city before. A-Actually, Philip started, cheeks darkening mildly in his embarrassing confession. I've never been to a beach, though I've seen many pictures. They're quite beautiful...What do you think?"

Zoexx Sorenxx Why do I miss someone I never met? With bated breath I lay. From what he shared so far, it sounded like he had been enjoying a good day. Zoe was glad, and even felt a bit encouraged to hear that this was the case. As he continued to share, and especially when he explained that he had never lived by the beach before, she found that she could understand entirely.
"I've only ever visited the sea once or twice with my family," Zoe admitted. "These beaches aren't like the ones back home. The water is beautifully clear, and from what I hear, it's warm in the summer."
If she had to choose, she knew that she wouldn't mind living in the tropics. She only had ever seen the warm coast once, but the memory of the warm water and the comforting sand was always a joy. She shook off the thought once she realized that she was getting distracted. "I moved here at the recommendation of a friend, Mr. Bargar. He told me that there were many different kinds of people and races here, and that the environment encouraged personal growth."
... That sounded a bit silly, didn't it? She felt her ears and face warm up somewhat and she looked away. "He also said it was probably better to get away and to experience just a different place that was different than home."
Something along the lines of moving out to move on? Getting out of the house? Getting a life? She remembered the jist of it if not the actual words that were used.

❝ If there ever comes a day where we can't be together xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - keep me in your heart. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I'll stay there forever. ❞
Warm water in the summer...Philip pressed his lips together, not knowing how to feel about that. Water in and of itself wasn't the best idea to him, but a sunny day with tepid waves engufling you didn't sound so bad to him, surprisingly. Considering it was late decemeber, Philip would never dream of getting in that water. His body was cold enough already. He didn't need to feel like he deserved more frost bite than he already had to experience on a daily basis. Or did he, really? Who decided such things in the first place? Philip couldn't particularly think of a reason why he was alive in the first place, either.
Though warmth might have been scarce, he enjoyed it any time it was offered to him. Which was why finding a little warm niche in a bookstore was truly perfect. "This Mr. Bargar sounds like a wise gentleman. I couldn't agree more." It was nice to have such close people. No one he had known so far cared to give him any suggestions as to where to live. He sort of just went to the next place where people were. Sometimes he stayed, sometimes he moved just to forget the memories and think fondly of them.
Philip noticed her pale skin flush slightly, to which he smiled gently. Did she think she said something wrong? Maybe Zoe was shy. "They say that leaving home, in a sense, involves a second kind of birth in which we find our true selves." In his case, technically a third birth. He didn't linger on the technicalities. "Regardless, I'm glad you're here. We wouldn't have met, otherwise." He cleared his throat silently and ran a hand through his stylishly messy brown hair, adjusting his sweater vest. His eyes wandered along the bookshelves and the spines resting and waiting to be broken in, hoping he would be able to stay here long enough to read all of them.
