Malodore could sort of tell which of the many beings milling around were actual humans and which weren't, because the real humans were screaming a lot more. That was fair, it supposed. It was also fortunate that it had been placed into this fleshy form, because otherwise it would likely accidentally lacerate humans instead of hugging them, and it much preferred purposeful lacerations to accidental ones.

So.

It walked about, eyes shifting with exaggerated eyebrow-lifts, because when one has never had a face made of proper flesh, one has no real control over one's facial expressions. At last, it found a human with sagging epidermis and paling hair. "Greetings, human," it offered.

The human glared at it. "Whazzat, sonny?"

"I, ah... may I hug you?"

"KIDS THESE DAYS, NO RESPECT," the human began, his volume impressive considering the aged and decrepit state his lungs must be in. Malodore watched in awe as the human ranted, spittle flying from his mouth; at one point it was sure it saw the human's very teeth rattle and sway with the force of his words.

"... grazie!" it said when the human ran out of words, then lunged, wrapping its weird, fleshy arms around the human's shoulders before running away as fast as it could. Another torrent of rage followed it. The human's may have been wisdom, but the whole thing seemed very incoherent to it...

Once Malodore was out of range of the elderly human's 'wisdom', it looked around for more likely targets. Its gaze settled on a pair of humans, one of whom had his hair brushed so far over his face that he resembled a werewolf. The other human with him, a female, was talking rapidly to (or perhaps at) him, with accompanying wild gestures.

Perhaps it was better to hug first without asking?

Malodore took a deep breath to calm itself, and then spent the next few minutes fighting with the fleshy body, coercing it into breathing on its own again. It did not want to turn odd colors; that would surely arouse suspicion in the humans! That matter dealt with, it crept over to the pair.

"-like, ohmigawd, I just can't, my feels... right here. Right in the feels," the female human said, crossing her arms over her chest. "And I know, I know, you got your poetry and all, but-"

Malodore shifted, trying to get a glimpse under the Boo Human's bangs. Did he even have eyes? Surely he did...

"-so he said, get in the car bitches, we're going sparkling, and I sa- dude, creeper." The female human's voice changed pitch, and Malodore looked up to see her staring at it in a most irritated fashion.

"Ah... I have hugged a human today!" it stammered. "May I hug you?"

"What?! Eweeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Her voice turned into a high-pitched shriek as Malodore flung itself at the pair of them, its arms dragging at their shoulders and clonking their heads together by accident. FEAR lit the air around them for a minute, and the plague doctor reveled in the sensation. You could even frighten with a hug, it seemed...

Malodore darted away from the pair of humans as fast as it could, because the female human's screaming was most unpleasant and threatened danger outweighing the deliciousness of the FEAR she was producing. It zipped around a corner and waited until the noise had stopped; sure enough, the humans had fled, the female still gesticulating wildly at her silent companion.

Then its gaze fell upon a small human. No - an immature human. A juvenile of the species, female by her dress, which was poofy and pink and covered in ribbons and lace such that she nearly vanished into it. Her shoes were shiny and black, her legs stockinged, and she was perched on the edge of a bench, kicking her feet back and forth absent-mindedly. She had a wad of cotton candy, also pink.

Perhaps something subtler was in order now. "Buon giorno," it said politely, sitting down on the other end of the same bench, a few feet away from her.

The small human opened her mouth and stuck her (pink) tongue out.

"... Is that an appropriate response?"

"Mleeeeeeeeeeeeh." After a few seconds, she closed her mouth. "I'm not s'posed to talk to strangers."

"You just did," it pointed out, reasonably.

"... maybe," she allowed, chewing on a wad of pink fluff, giving Malodore an oddly calculating look for one so young. "Do you have candy?"

"... Pardon?"

"Mom says bad people always have candy, and then they take you to a van, and... I dunno, bad stuff?" She shrugged, clearly uncaring about this portent of doom. Malodore's respect for her went up a notch; clearly this was an example of that most vexing of beings, the Young Skeptic. The kind that would debate an underbed monster on the topic of the monster's own existence all night long. "So, do you?"

"No."

"Oh. That's boring."

...

"... Can I hug you?"

"Why?"

"... It's for a class."

"Oh."

"... Can I?"

She sighed and hopped off the bench. "I guess."

It was a very sticky hug. And also very pink. But at least there wasn't any screaming. "You will be a terror to all monsters," it informed her politely after putting her back down, and she grinned widely.

And pinkly.

One more to go. Malodore, still feeling a bit sticky after encountering the small human child, peered around trying to pick out one more human. At last, it found another one with hair over its face, though it wasn't the same as the human with the talkative companion. It hadn't been satisfied with its handling of the earlier Boo Human. Perhaps this one?

"You appear in need of a hug," it stated, approaching with arms outstretched. "Allow me to provide that service to you."

"......... Dude, you need some black on you." One hand came up, and fingers snapped. "Black. Like my soul."

Malodore paused, glancing down at its clothing. "Generally, I prefer to wear that shade," it admitted. "I am not sure what happened."

"A rainbow barfed on you," the young man said, morosely. "Get some new threads. Refresh your mind. And your soul."

"Is your soul genuinely black?" the plague doctor inquired.

"As ebon night, my companion on this lonely Spaceship Earth."

"... I am sure," it said, awkwardly. "Do, ah, companions not embrace?"

The Boo Human looked balefully out from under his hair. "I stand alone under the blanket of the stars, beneath the echo of a black hole. This is my curse."

"Oh, I don't mind curses," Malodore assured him, then stepped forward and caught the man up in a hug. The human began to struggle and swear, and Malodore turned him loose.

"Not cool, brother. The moon saw what you did." The Boo Human staggered back. "She saw. She knows."

".... Nice speaking with you," it said, weakly, and backed away. It fetched up next to a wall to fill out its form. Humans were so strange, but it was also clear that the ordinary variety were no threat. No threat at all.

Except possibly that little girl.

Finally free of the putrid little humanling, Christof scrambled to his feet to hurry her way to Riley's side with a meek sort of hunched posture, meekly tugging at her arm. "Mithtreth, maybe we should mowe along a bit. I don't think thethe humanth like uth."

"It is a sentiment I reciprocate fully, I assure you." She made a noise of discomfort when Christof tugged at her arm, still under the impression he might have been tainted with rabies, but hurriedly moved on to find a new target.

A very old, decrepit man was walking at a snails pace across the street. She nearly bowled into him, stopping just before knocking him off his feet. He did not react in any way, shape or form. His eyes were covered with giant, black protective goggles of some sort, and Riley waved her hand in front of him. Still, no reaction.

"I thought the elders were supposed to be wise.." She murmured, but the man still continued to take tiny, unfettered steps.

Riley put one arm on his shoulder, and then quickly took it off.

Nothing.

She looked at Christof with alarm. "I think this one is a walking dead."

<That was some very good work done students, you did well so far. > It seemed that the human child sitting next to the Professor, a girl around twelve perhaps, had somehow noticed the pseudo-minipet, and was currently petting it, giggling happily. Her mom to one side simply stared at the girl and raise one eyebrow at where her daughter was supposedly looking at and petting.

The two DETH attendants next to the Professor had returned as well, each of them carrying a strange amount of very thin paper. < However, our field trip has not yet concluded! Each of you will be also given some homework, you must use Human money to purchase a Human World item, which we will preserve for you, to bring back to Halloween. You must then take notes on the Human World item and present them to any DETH committe member. Now, what you are being handed right now is considered Human money. They use it to exchange items, like we do with Silver Pumpkin seeds. You are now allowed to wander around the area, in groups or individually, and pick out an item that you would like to bring home. Good luck! >

OOC

MONEY AND YOU

- The students have been granted US $20. Now, unfortunately, it will be something of a learning exercise for students to know exactly how much costs 20 dollars, and how to exactly purchase something with the money. What they do with the money is really up to them, but ICly their purchase can only add up to 20 dollars, and must be something commonly found in malls. They dont even need to buy anything if they really are clueless *ahem* (KEEP IT PG THANK YOU)
- Feel free to spread out/ go around and RP this however you wish, your student can spend it on one purchase or a variety of thems. They could fail to get an item because they don't understand pricing, etc etc, YOU rp it out however you want! When you student has finally made a choice, come back and await further orders/ feel free to share your findings with other students. RPing with anyone/ any student/ even those your character does not know is well encouraged, especially since this is sort of a group sharing/ learning exercise!

- If you HAVE NOT hugged a human yet, please proceed to page 10 first!/ Finish up that part first!

Riley let the elderly dead man walking go, stopping just in front of a small bench where a young lady had her nose stuck in a book. When Riley pulled the book slowly away, the young woman stared up, and up, at her. Riley's lip curled up in disgust, and that was enough to trigger the flight instincts of the girl, who had been reading some book about vampires. She screamed with a high pitched noise, making Riley pull back in pain, and then ran out screaming.

"Noisy." She muttered. "But delicious." The fear eminating from that particular human made Riley feel absolutely luxurious. "Definitely my favorite."

Ah, and the teacher was now handing out human currency. Buying objects was far more pleasing of an activity than trying to touch humans. Plus. Shopping.

THE FIELD TRIP OBSERVATION FORM:

Name of student: Riley

Human 1 Observed Type: Angry Human
Comments After Hugging: Humans are easily susceptible to manipulation. This knowledge was previously obtained.

Human 2 Observed Type: Chatty Human
Comments After Hugging: The abuse of conversation is typical in humankind. Perhaps they speak so much because their minds cannot handle processing thought, so the words tumble from their mouths unbidden.

Human 3 Observed Type: Loud Human
Comments After Hugging: Loud humans are good for one thing. They scare other humans.

Human 4 Observed Type: The Elder Human
Comments After Hugging: No reaction. It is unclear as to whether this human was alive or not.

Human 5 Observed Type: Scaredy-Human
Comments After Hugging: Clearly these are the humans that offer us the most prospect for Fear harvesting. Very fruitful. But uncomfortably loud.
