I like all types of variety. I like more of the pop or rock.. great singing, instruments and rhythm/beat. biggrin

Usually it's the instrumental sound and the lyrics. Not the singer him/herself, but the lyrics, then I'll pay attention to the voice singing them. As weird as it sounds I'll make critques when I'm at home watching them on T.V...

In general, I like anything that sounds good to me. It's hard to explain.
Also, I try to find some energy to the music. Doesn't always have to be upbeat or fast, just energetic. Soulful would be another word

I like things that are fast yet melodic, and music that is both fun to listen to, and fun to play. I like to be motivated, and inspired by what I listen to.
(Bands that do that for me the most are The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones, Murderdolls, and Bad Religion)
I can't stand music that is depressing or redundant..
(Basically, I'll listen to almost anything that isn't a pointless downer(Like "Emo"))

Well, the singing and playing must be good, then of course, the singer must have a good voice. The melodies of the songs must be interesting... What else... it's not very nice if all the songs are similar, so it's good if the band uses different kind of instruments... It's nice if the lyrics are good.

Well it depends on my mood.
Sometimes it's all about the instrumental melodies, sometimes its about the pop hooks, sometimes its about intelligent lyrical content. Usually a bit of all. To be honest, my standards aren't that high. The only thing I'm picky about is love/break-up songs, those for me are succeed or fail for me, there is no grey area. If the lyrics don't look at both sides of a relationship (i.e. "oh my god! my life sucks! my pain! oh poor me! I'm gonna commit suicide now!"), that's an instant fail. They usually also have to be confessional. Any attempt to put a fake exterior "I don't need anyone I'm cool by myself!" or "don't need the b***h and never did" is also an instant fail.

I like bits of everything.
The singer and the beat are really important,
but I'd extremely like the band if their lyrics actually meant something or if it came from personal experience that I can relate to... or at least understand.
Though, random stuff is good too once in a while like some of Blink-182's songs. xd
