Gearvin grinned as Cosmo came rolling over, already going a mile a minute. Well, he could definitely say he missed the tiny guy, though... Half an inch? That was more than he grew in his time before last winter. "Woah, slow down Cosmo. I don't think you want to hurt yourself by crashing into something. A whole half inch? I think I might have grown an inch since we last talked." An inch, and that had most of the people in the palace chuckling behind hands at his glee over his recent growth spurt.

Mentally shrugging off the words from court, he instead decided to pay attention to the diminutive green prince. "Yeah, I saw your furniture. They look really tiny. I couldn't imagine trying to fit into them, I'd break them for sure." He considered possibly telling Cosmo about the courts back home, but shrugged it off. Really, his friend didn't need to hear about how venomous court politics could be. He'd probably discover them soon enough. "My break was fine. I think all of my siblings are taller than me now. Plus, I'm not sure, but my father might be trying to arrange a marriage for me." He wasn't too sure about that last part, but he wouldn't put it past the older man. If anything, it would, and his father had said it before, 'strengthen positions in court'.

Cosmo obligingly slowed to a halt, and plopped to sit down on his stick-y katamari ball. He took a deep breath as he listened to Gearvin talk. It was nice to have other people to talk to again! "I have a few cousins who are still littler than me, but most of them are waaaaay bigger," he said seriously. "We're all different!"

Cosmo heard the word 'marriage' and squished his little cheeks together, stars in his eyes. "OH MY GOOOOSH! IF YOU GET MARRIED CAN I COME PLEASE I WANNA MEET WHOEVER IT IS I HOPE THEY'RE NICE LIKE YOU!" He kicked out his feet, happy for his friend. "I'm still too young to get married, but maybe someday there'll be someone my size who will like me enough to go to space with me and live with all my cousins."

He wiggled back and forth on his ball, beaming brightly and working off the endless energy he somehow always seemed to have in the mornings.

As she listened to Viola speak to Tom, Maeza grew increasingly annoyed. Her hands balled into loose fists at her sides. Obviously, this Viola Edendottir was not a fan of her, either. Maeza couldn't give a damn how excited the kingdom was. She forced a smile and glanced around. "Well, good for you, Viola. I can tell you're a real ray of sunshine, so I'm just going to find my room before you kill me...Tom, I guess I'll see you later," she said, placing a light hand on her friend's shoulder before almost stalking back to her luggage.

Gearvin had to laugh a bit. It did seem a bit impossible to imagine any of Cosmo's relatives being taller than he was, but then again, that was life, wasn't it? Still, the thought of smaller cousins did make his mind boggle a bit. Must be something about Cosmo's race, where they start out tiny but kept growing. Now, if only that would happen for him. "Way big? How big? I mean, my people can get above seven feet tall, but how big can yours get?" Seven feet, and he wasn't even five feet. He definitely needed to grow.

He blinked as Cosmo insisted on going to his wedding, and the young Glacien blushed a bit, thinking that was a long way away. "It's probably not going to happen until I'm twenty-two, considering that I'm not an adult until then. Besides, I hope she's nice too. I'm not sure how it would be if she hated me or vise versa." That was definitely a possibility, but Gearvin shoved it out of his head, now trying to picture another Cosmo beside his friend. Did they have different genders? He thought they did, but then again, his knowledge of other races was still limited. "Well, when you meet someone like that, invite me to the wedding. Unless you live longer than I do. That would really suck if I couldn't come." That got him wondering how many long-lived races there were at school. He expected it out of the elves, since he thought he recalled they lived a long time, but the others, he had no clue.

Tom's scowl could have sliced metal. Viola was right, but he couldn't let her see it. He watched with forced helplessness as Mae's hand left his shoulder and picked up her bags. He wanted so badly to help her, escort her, but what could he do that wouldn't earn him a reprimand? He wasn't safe anywhere anymore. His gaze followed her up to the residence halls, wishing and wanting but never acting.

"Spare me, Viola," he spat, returning his attention to the little Lurker before him. "Politesse is your last concern. Mae hasn't done anything. You bother her again, and I swear on everything you hold dear you'll never see a crown."

He stared his fiancée down, backing into the shade of his tree by the lake. "Just stay out of our lives." He vanished down into the darkness of a knot in the tree's roots, thinking of where best to go now.

"Like SUPER big!" Cosmo insisted, throwing out his arms as wide as they would go to illustrate his point. "My dad's like as big as a PLANET! BIGGER, even! And my mom's almost his size, but she's a girl so she's smaller."

Cosmo gazed up into the sky, wondering who was looking back down at him. "Yeah! Marrying someone mean wouldn't be very fun. If you have to spend your whole rest of your life with them, you should at least be nice to each other and like the same stuff."

He hugged his knees to his chest, trying to imagine a tiny friend for him, just his size that he could imagine marrying. "I'll probably never get married," he mused. "Not unless I grow a lot so I don't get squished by normal girls. Or maybe I'll marry a alien from a tiny planet and then we can be friends because we'll be the same size."

Cosmo shrugged. "But I'm just a kid. Getting married is a ton of years away. Right now we have school and dinner and moving in and stuff to worry about, right?" He resumed his bouncing, and his happy grin. "What are you taking this year?"

Princess Lizzy

The horse's hoofs hit the ground at a steady beat, the Lizzy riding atop of one. She'd gotten her parents to agree for her and a few servants to go alone unlike last year, where she'd had a small army dropping her off, it was ridiculous. Her laugh rang out as she threw up her hands in delight, the sun shining bring on her face. It was glorious and she loved it so. The entrance to the school appeared ahead and she slowed her pace to a light gallop as to not run over anyone else on the grounds.

Once inside the gate Lizzy pulled her horse to a halt, sliding off just before the others pooled up ahead. Opening the saddle bag she took out a small purse as all her other items were sent ahead already. She lightly petted the horse, though to those around it would appear normal, her touche was muted by the gloves she had concealed with a glamor. With a slight frown placed her face against its skill drawing a little bit of energy from it but not enough for it to notice or have any effects. She just needed a boost to get her through the task of getting to her dorm.

Nodding to the few servants as she handed over the reigns, she set off toward the other students. It seemed some sort of verbal altercation had occurred by a tree so she steered clear of it putting her closer to some of the other students. The faces of some familiar from last year and other new she just smiled and made her way to the main buildings, not sure if she should greet anyone.

Gearvin blinked, having a bit of trouble imagining someone that big. Would he even know if he had encountered someone that big? It seemed impossible in his mind. Heck, he had a bit of trouble imagining someone as big as some of his ancestors were reputed to be, and well, they were supposedly as tall as some glaciers. That, well, it was probably a good thing they had shrunk down, to be honest. The poles would be really crowded now if that was the case. "That's pretty big. I can't even imagine someone that big. Must make it hard to talk to them sometimes." He suddenly realized that that could sound quite rude and ducked his head, trying to hide his sudden embarrassment.

When Gearvin heard Cosmo say his own marriage wouldn't be for a long time, he had to stop and wonder precisely how long Cosmo would live for. Centuries? Millenia? He honestly had no clue. He shrugged the thought away, realizing the topic really shouldn't be considered since he probably would die before Cosmo grew up. "Yeah, I hope so too. Marriage is a bit of a way away from the both of us, so we don't have to worry too much, right?" He then considered his courses for the new year, frowning a bit. "I'm taking Law and Judgement, Literature, Riding, and Fighting this year. I know I took Etiquette last year, and I really don't want to do a repeat of that fiasco." Never mind that he didn't want to think about how badly he failed that class. He'd probably have to retake it at some point "What are you taking?"

Prince Novae of Washington

Novae ran outside with her umbrella with a smile on her face. She first noticed Sherlock and Amaranth and waved at them, hoping they would wave back. While she was waiting for their response, she looked around the grounds and her smile quickly faded. She could still smell the blood. She remembered seeing her classmates being slaughtered one by one without warning or cause. Novae nearly died in that battle as well when she was impaled in the chest and pinned to the wall. She couldn't do a thing to help the others and just watched herself bleed out. She went unconscious and could only remembered waking up back in her home in Seattle.
Like a small child being scolded at, her lip quivered and tears of blood ran down her face. She ran to hide under a tree to hide her shame and sorrow.
That night changed her for deeply. She was once short tempered and animalistic. Now, she was more tender and sensitive. This year would either make her or break her.

Cosmo leapt up and instinctively waved at the students wandering the grounds, beaming at everyone who passed by. "Yeah, my dad talks really loud," he said, sitting back down on his katamari ball. "But it's ok! He's teaching me how to project so I'm not so quiet all the time. See, watch!"

Cosmo stood up and took in a big, big breath. After a moment, he shouted, "HIIII, AAAAMYYYY! HIIII, SHEERLOOCK!"

Winded from the effort, he flopped back down onto his ball. "Ummmmmmmm I'm taking history, riding, literature, and law again," he said. He hadn't done well in law... probably due to his relative inability to talk about what his kingdom considered laws. He'd done some homework over the summer, and now he was ready for it. "I can't wait to do riding, though! That'll be fun, I've never been on a horse." He frowned pensively. "I wonder if it'll be like rolling?"

Cosmo stood up and walked on his ball, making it roll backwards. "Wawawait, I got this..." He walked backwards, making the ball roll forwards. He grinned. He'd be great at riding class!

Sherlock watched the girl quietly for a moment, knowing that the return must be worse for her- it was probably the place she’d first seen death, afterall. These, however, were not topics he was inclined to broach at the moment. He had learned better then to bright up emotional subjects among the other students as it was never lacking in unpleasantness and a certain (unfathomable) expectation that he feel something as well. He gave an impassive grunt to the note about not talking, leaning back in his seat and folding his boney hands in front of him as he looked up at the ceiling of their ride, slowly coming to a halt now. He couldn’t deny that she was right, although the temptation for mouthy commentary where her mother was concerned couldn’t be greater.

To the comment about speaking, he debated briefly whether or not he actually did have any desire to chat. He wasn’t normally one for smalltalk, after all. And then, the carriage had stopped and there was no longer need for such frivolity. The tall skinny young man refrained from answering the question directly, merely preparing to leave their ride. He didn’t need anything else giving the impression that they were together and arrival was plenty. He surveyed the other students as he opened the carriage door; Thomas had darted off somewhere, he only saw a flicker of the boy before an unfamiliar girl was left standing alone. There was another unfamiliar girl not far off, and then a few he did recognize; Gearvin. Cosmo. Novae. He was somewhat curious as to what brought them back to the school that offered such horrible memories. He looked novae over and hesitantly returned her wave, as though unpracticed in such casual gestures. Had her lip quivered? He brushed it off, it didn’t matter.

Cosmo then shouted out to them, and he gave the tiny prince a nod as he straightened his jacket and paced slightly, his legs stiff from hours of sitting. His things would be in his room by now, sent by his brother ahead of time. There was not much to do but greet the few tolerable students and assess whether or not his roommate this year was agreeable.

"From what happened?" Vincent asked as he walked with the strange looking boy outdoors and across the grassy meadow. "What do you mean?" If there had been some sort of catastrophe, Jasper hadn't told him about it. Of course, there was a chance that Jasper hadn't known, either. But knowing Jasper, that was unlikely. The Duke paused by the lake shore, gazing down at the lapping water while he waited for Kenton to explain. Whatever had happened, he was glad that the grounds were nice. He enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Kenton hesitated as he walked with the Duke, a hint of sheepishness flashing in his eyes. Whoops. Was it his place? Had he been the only one who did the research before applying for studentship? He supposed there was no point denying it now. He knelt down and touched the surface of hte lake.

"This lake is not natural. The crater was made by an explosion of some persuasion last winter. There was a massive battle," he said. "Here, at the school. Royal lines died in a single night, staff buried each other on the grounds in the aftermath. I believe that is why the faculty has allowed students like you and I, of non-royal birth, to enter the school. They are suffering, losing staff and students dozens at a time. Some do not want to return here."

He frowned. The finer details were a bit fuzzy; the press releases he dug up regarding the deaths of the staff and students had been vague and altogether quite uninformative as to cause of death. "All I truly know is this. The battle is over and we have missed it, but many of the returning students took part. I would be surprised if they do not acknowledge it in some way. This is why I, a lord of the military, am here. Should this place prove dangerous, we will keep our Crown Princess at home."

Kenton stood up, surveying the lake. "But perhaps we heard wrong. Without a firsthand account, I have no way to back up what I say."

Novae remained under the tree, with tears running down her face. The tears were part sorrow for her fallen friends and schoolmates, but they also had a hint of happiness. Sherlock was the first person she befriended here and Amaranth was so kind to her.
She overheard two young boys talking about that night. She turned and looked at the boy whom she saw actually talking. Her bright, blue eyes turned dull and steely. She wouldn't dare call him out, but he truly knew nothing of it. She got up from her spot and walked over to them. She made sure to wipe the tears from her face. Be strong. She looked at one and then turned her gaze to the other, "You two must be new to this school, yes?"

Kenton's expression went from contemplative to alarmed as a girl appeared. Her eyes were unnaturally red, as though painted, and she appeared to have been bleeding from the eyes quite recently. Though the flow seemed to have been stemmed, Kenton remained cautious. Was that normal?

"Yes, madam. I am Lord Kenton Pelagius, and with me is Duke Vincent Milano," he said, sweeping into a bow. It had become an automatic response, drilled into him as soon as he knew that the overwhelming majority of his peers would outrank as well as out-age him. "With whom do we have the pleasure of speaking?"

He kept a close, wary eye on her, wondering in the back of his mind where he ought to bring a student who had taken ill should the occasion arise. The hospital wing was bound to be labeled on his map. Kenton's wings gave a nervous flutter as he tried to rationalize a medical condition with that symptom and came up empty.
