It seemed the blackheart had only taken a few steps away before a great, unearthly trembling approached from behind. There was a scream, a cacophony of monstrous noises, and the trampling of feet as people fled.

As he turned, his day went from ******** to ******** it all to hell! Though he himself had never seen one in person, there were fathoms of writings on the beast who had permeated through to the town -- A riftborn. A creature of the void, used in the ancient war by the One-Eyed Demon King to slaughter men.

"Get...Get out of its gaze, you ridiculous female!" he cried, though sure his voice had gone unheard in the hustle and tussle of the crowd. Well, s**t. He was going to get drawn into another battle, one-arm or not.

He ran as fast as he could back into the uproar, picking up the only thing nearby -- a park bench, and threw it with great strength at the Riftborn's head. "Look over here, shitface! Look at all the meat on this! You want some, don't you?"

It was then he eyed one under his command -- Mischa, another blackheart with a known record of what he called 'death-diving'. It relieved him to a point that another of his kind was here. He would never forgive himself if he had to rely on the knights... Though he tried for peace between the two organizations, it was still in his bones to feel haughty and proud of his status as a blackheart.

"Mischa!" he called to him. "Don't let it grab you, remember what they can do if they grab you!" He begrudgingly flicked his orders towards the knights that had arrived, though he knew he could not command them -- they would not know a thing about this beast. "They're called Riftborns, monsters without soul, filled with only the thirst of life - If it grabs you, it can do exactly what spiritus can, and suck the heart right out of you, though it wouldn't be uncommon for it to swallow someone whole, either..."

At least, that's what the records state....And the only way to kill it was...

"We need to cut off its head. It won't die any other way."

Mischa had heard Sibelius as he spoke, reminding him of what this Riftborn could do if it caught Mischa in its grasp. Despite the smile permanently scared into Mischa's face. He was certainly not smiling... Mischa liked up close and dirty fighting. But this big guy wouldn't go down with just a simple brawl. Mischa had to fight at long range, and that wasn't his style.

"Well ******** me sideways and call me a whore..." he said under his breath as he created one of his Smoke Monsters. It was a large horse, twice the size of a real one with fangs as large as a saber tooth tiger's and claws instead of hooves. "Go get you sum!" Mischa said as he smacked the beast on the a**, sending it charging at the Riftborn. Mischa looked to the Spiritus alraedy engaged in battle with the Riftborn. Perhaps with the creature's attention both placed on Sibelius from throwing the bench, and that Spiritus, his Smoke Monster could get in a fighting chance of dislodging the giant beast from its feat.

"I swear, if any of you ******** titty sucking Knights ******** this up and die, I'll ******** your skulls till your brains seep outta your ears! " A little encouragement to the "other side" couldn't hurt. Make them angry, make them fight.

Wandering through the streets of Lumena, a young Witch gazed at the swirling sky. She had left her family home in Woodfall to experience the world, to find Masters of magic and learn from them... she had thought that there would be no better place to start her journey than the Librarium City, but her father had kindly suggested that she see the shining royal capital city of Lumena before beginning her studies. So, she had traveled here... the road had been long, and though she was weary, she was glad to see... it such a strange fog. She had heard no mention of a fog such as this darkening the skies of Lumena...

She heard footsteps, and shouts, and crashing (a city brawl, perhaps?), and...
Something was wrong.
Shouted curses rang through the air. "... till your brains seep outta your ears!" Her warm woodland eyes grew wide and she clasped a hand over her mouth, stifling a startled burst of shocked laughter. But, then, there was surely a battle going on, and such threats were to be expected... right? Fighting to regain her composure, she felt the thrum of her magic as she gathered it within herself. She pulled at the air molecules around her, hardening them to create a small flat shield extending in front of her, then peeked around a street corner in the direction of the fighting. Her soft green hair fell over her shoulder as her heart dropped into her stomach at the sight. She swallowed.

That... creature. Those people. Attacking- defending? Yelling, screaming, cursing.

Her shield flickered, and she closed her eyes and concentrated on enforcing it, strengthening it, wrapping it around her form.
There was so much going on, so much strength out there... what was that beast?
And what could she possibly do to help?

The Riftborn heaved its mighty fist upwards to slam down onto the girl, snarling as slobber dripped off its chin. But when the flash of ice-clad armor threatened to steal away its meal, the creature unclenched its fist and swung around to grapple Fol's leg. Were it not for the mystic armor, the spiritus's limb would have been crushed to pieces.

The monster meant to drag the Knight back towards him, and in turn the little witch, but suddenly claws dragged down its leg. Screeching at the dragon spiritus, the creature swung Fol by the leg square into Brighid, letting both of them tumble away.

Two spiritus...they smelled like the rift. They smelled like itself. The sharp-toothed grin melted into a hideous scowl. They weren't appetizing at all. They wanted to take its meal away...

Stomping towards them, the Riftborn meant to end them both, if it weren't for the icicles hurdling into its gnarled flesh. More ice? More ice?? Cold, cold, it stung, it burned.

The creature yelped in pain and frustration, breaking one off and throwing it back in Lea's direction, before a park bench collided with its face. Distractions! Pesky meat! Its heaving chest a monument to its growing anger. Black, inky blood trickled down its cheek, splinters poking out like grave markers in its skin.

It was so long, so long without a meal! And now it finally found food aplenty; delicious hearts and blood and screams. But they fight back.. It shook its head vehemently, pounding its chest and charging towards Sibelius at full speed, tongue wagging in the wind and eyes half-crazed.

The Riftborn had completely forgotten about all the others. This one made him bleed. This one will die first. This one goes in the belly and it will taste so good. In the midst of the creature's bloodlust, Mischa's shadow-horse rammed into the monster's side. Both of them tumbled and rolled to the side before the Riftborn took the summoned creature by the neck, lifting it over its shoulders and flinging it back towards the Blackheart.

With all the targets taking turns with the creature's attention, it couldn't possibly keep track of them all. Huffing and snorting, it wrapped it's arms around the nearest tree, ripping it out from the ground. The creature stumbled slightly, as the battle was dragging on and it suffered many hits. The wound on its head continued to bleed, and the blood began to trickle into its eyes, clouding its vision. The Riftborn searched desperately for a target, unable to choose which to kill first, and unable to see them clearly.

Kian had been drawn to the sounds of roaring and large feet pressing against the earth. He slipped out of his hiding in shadows, climbing atop a building to see what the fuss was. He'd felt the earthquake, he'd seen the fog. But he hadn't cared.

Now he knew he should care, for the sake of intrigue, at least. He leaned against a chimney as he watched Blackhearts and Knights fighting together. He saw a Dragon type Spiritus fighting as well. Curious... It was all so curious.

He watched as a Blackheart summoned a shadow creature. Kian watched the giant horse crash into the creature attacking. And then watched in amusement as the large beast began retaliation. The shadow creature was now a projectile heading right back at said Blackheart.

Kian chuckled as he slid down the wall. He couldn't fight. He had no physical power to do so and the witch eater's magic wasn't one for battle, but for diplomacy. But he could get in for a better view...

(( Sorry guys DX RL dragged me off ))

Cedar's eyes had just fallen as the best as a scream on the wind came. As she began to use her magic the tree's shifted but before she begin her attached Fol had grabbed her and was pulling her away. She glanced over at him as the beast's fist came down and then turned to swipe at them. As he grabbed Fo'ls leg Cedar grabbed onto his arm to pull at him. But it didn't long for the beast to let him go, sending the two tumbling when the spiritus she had seen earlier attacked the beast. After becoming tangled with Fol, Cedar worked herself free and she checked on him to make sure he was okay.

With her hands still on Fol, Cedar looked around just in time to see Lea. She watched as the beast threw one of his icicles back at him and Cedar instantly seized her magic and a branch swung down to block the icicle before it could hit Lea. She frowned lightly watching what the others were doing, and how the beast was bleeding. What was that thing?

Quickly closing the gap and then lunging for the Riftborn's flesh, Brighid snarled in satisfaction as her claws found purchase. It had been such a long time since she had gone to battle against a being of origin similar to herself... She raised her other hand to follow the path of the first, only to be suddenly knocked back as some great weight hit her from the side. She hissed as she hit the ground, almost immediately pushing and pulling herself out from under the ice-using... Spiritus?

She hesitated for less than a heartbeat before deciding to ignore both him and the brunette witch for the moment in favor of the task at hand... Namely, slaughtering the beast before them. It appeared to have been dazed and disoriented after being hit by the shadow-horse, and with this many opponents she knew it wouldn't last long.

A feral, snarl-like grin spread on her face as her eyes flicked to the tree it was holding. Just her luck... The one thing she had a magical affinity for was trees, and so newly torn from the ground it would still be alive. It wouldn't do much damage, but she knew from experience that splinters could be annoying as all get-out; and it appeared that 'splinters' of ice worked nicely.

This time, as she charged in for another attack, she willed the flesh of the tree touching the Riftborn's hide to burst...

"Don't you look at me!" sibelius snarled as the Riftborn eyed him, clearly heated that he'd taken a park bench to the face. He backed away from it, cursing his own strength. He was melee all the way -- insanely physically powerful, but if he got close to this thing, it could so easily snatch away his very source of life -- there was no way he could get close enough to rip its head off of its spine like some morbid flesh-balloon.

"It's head!" he shouted again. "Take it off...Augh....You, iceboy! Ice boy! Can't you make something...large...and sharp...with all that ice?"

If they could somehow fashion some type of guillotine, or rounded, large blade to sever the neck, it'd be easy street from there.

The Spiritus finally wrapped his arms around the brunette witch and held her tightly in his arms and felt her holding on to him. "I got you!" Fol called out but felt that his leg was caught. He winced slightly in pain of the pressure as his wolfish eyes looked down to see those razor teeth has clenched on to his leg and digging through his ancient ice. The riftborn got him. He lift his free leg up and kicked it right to those teeth but soon he found himself being lifted up into the air and bringing the girl along with him. But he wasn't going to let any chance slip through his fingers as Fol lift an arm up and managed to claw the riftborn's face with his clawed gauntlet to injure it further just before he was finally released and sent flying straight into . . . another spiritus?

He held the brunette witch and shield her when they fell right into the dragon spiritus. The knight grit his teeth tightly upon impact and opened his icy blue eyes to see that the female spiritus is okay as she managed to slip out from underneath him to continue the fight. The witch had also slipped away from his grasp as he's lying down on the ground and looked up to see her checking on him. "I'm fine, I'm fine . . ." Fol assured her as he saw her using her nature magic to help in aiding a snow leopard who had helped distract the riftborn from attacking them. The wolf spiritus growled fiercely, soon sprint forward to the riftborn right as he saw it falling down to the side after the shadow horse attack from the Blackheart. Fimbulvetr began to frost over his armor of creating his ancient ice spiking up as his extra layer of defense again and down his arm as a weapon is taking form of a giant scythe that is attached to his arm and sliced right against its leg to bring it down. Like what Sibelius said earlier, decapitation will destroy the creature once and for all and calling some 'ice boy' as well. Like hell he needs his help on how to kill his own kind as he has done so before his entire family was born. It made him growl in anger as he used his monstrous strength to lift the large scythe in the air. The ice blade straighten into a sword and aimed right behind the neck . . . .

Skidding to a stop next to a rather foul-mouthed shadow user Azra'iel summoned the soul of his sword, a light elemental he had bound to the blade. Because she was bound to the sword, he could use her as an extension of the blade. If the Riftborn could so swiftly remove his heart upon contact, he would prefer more distance than swinging his blade would gain him. As the golden creature coalesced in a defensive stance in front of the Knight, he managed a wry tone for the presumable Blackheart he had ended up next to. "As I woul prefer to...avoid that particular fate, I would much rather be near your sight so you can see how I am not dying." Letting his actual blade hang loosely at the ready on his left side, the light witch raised his right arm in a decisive slash toward the Riftborn's leg as his familiar began to glow. "Shad'ya, go."

A streak of light slashed toward the rampaging beast, appearing to miss any fatal blow, but it looked as though he had sliced another wound.

"It's head!"

Azra'iel heard the shout in the same authoritative voice that had before given warning about approaching and making contact with the beast. It came from a rather intimidating one-armed witch...another Blackheart, perhaps?

Focusing on his phantom directives to Shad'ya to try to slice a tendon in the rabid creature's leg, Azra'iel started gathering his power and slowly feeding his own mana into Shad'ya to create a larger, glowing living blade.

"All I need is a clearer shot..." the Knight muttered, practically to himself as golden eyes narrowed on the flailing beast.

Staying back from the fight, Étaín narrowed her eyes in annoyance. What a waste of time. Standing near another ice-user, she cringed instinctively when some of his own missiles were launched back toward him, only to be swatted away by the trees overhead. Interesting.

Reaching out to the water in the ground around the beast, she forced it to flash freeze; hopefully making footing dicey for the creature as it struggled in the the mud made by it's churning claws and dripping blood.

Disgusting.

Turning to the boy, eyes still narrowed, she spoke in a voice as cold as the element they wielded. "Are you in need of further assistance?" The boy did not appear to be hurt... that was good, right?

So concern for others was not her forte.

The creature reared back in shock and agony as the tree in its hands exploded into millions of shards, puncturing his skin like a pincushion. It desperately fumbled with large, clumsy fingers to pluck them out. Stinging, itching pain! Everywhere!

Panting, the Riftborn stopped paying attention to its combatants entirely, and was punished with two swift cuts to its legs. Screeching in pain, it fell to its knees, still panicking to get the splinters out. It took moments for it to realize it couldn't stand anymore, as ice had shackled the monster to the spot.

Tugging at its legs, the creature roared in defiance. It couldn't die now, not without a meal! They were all so tasty-looking, so tempting...well all but those spiritus ones that smelled like the rift...

Furiously, the Riftborn pounded at the ground, desperately trying to break the ice that held it in place, its mane falling over its face and baring its neck...

Lea gave a sigh of relief at the sight of Fol and Cedar tossed carelessly aside by the Riftborn, albeit into another (Brighid) who had stepped in to offer her assistance, but it was certainly a much better fate than landing up in the tummy of the dark creature that was just denied of its meal.

Knowing that Cedar was safe and far from the creature's jaws, he refocused his attention on the battle at hand and was about to side step the icy projectile that was sent his way when he realized that he didn't need to. He smiled to himself at the sight, already knowing who it was behind it without having to look her way. He would have to properly thank her later when all this was over and done with.

Turning to the other ice-user (Etain) who had taken to trapping the creature by freezing the ground beneath it, he gave a small shrug at her question. "Very nice. My forte lies more in the offensive though." Lifting his hand into the air, he created a couple more icicles, this batch differing from the previous as evident by their hooklet tips, and then sending all but one into the creature's side to wound it further.

"If you could work some bindings of sort, perhaps we could work them together to hold this abomination down?" He proposed lightly even as he kept his gaze on the Riftborn the entire time.

Once Fol was back on his feet the witch got back to hers and made a point to get out of the way. Cedar wasn't a fighter even though her magic worked both as defensive and offensive. She personally preferred not to fight unless needed and she no longer needed too with all the others attacking this thing.

Leaning against a tree she let her eyes follow Lea to make sure he wasn't going to be in any more danger and then kept the beat and the others in the corner of her eye. This was certainly a messy affair. It seemed like the Black Hearts knew how to destroy it, which means they could have answers. She watched as the Spiritus that had helped her changed his weapon. This should be all done soon.

Asteria's long day of shopping for some new boots finally seemed to be at an end. She gave a sigh of relief at the thought that she would be able to go home now. However, the ground suddenly started shaking violently...almost like an earthquake. Asteria could barely keep on her feet and reached for the nearest bench. She then looked up at the sky and saw a dark fog...a fog so dark it seem to ooze of evil and decay. Asteria shuddered, I want to get out of here and fast. She started to run to where she guessed the gates to the city were.
Along the way she heard yelling, crashing, swearing, and primal roars. Just as she was able to see where the gates should've been, she stopped. She looked around and saw a battle field. The gates and the surrounding buidings were destroyed. The people around her seemed to be in the midst of a ferocious battle...and in the middle of it all, there was a gigantic and hideous monster. An aura of hate and hunger was coming off of it in waves. However, it seemed to be immobilized by the waist down at the moment by some ice and the wretch seemed to be doing everything to crack the ice.
Asteria could only stare as she realized that if that creature cracked that ice, its rampage might not be stopped. She breathed once, twice....and thrice.....and still felt like she needed more air. She was scared, scared that they might all be eaten...What if I'm eaten? If there was only something she could do.
She suddenly realized that maybe there was something after all. If the monster stopped pounding at the ice, maybe the Blackhearts and Knights could kill that thing. But how to stop it's pounding? ...Thorns!! Of course!
Asteria took in a deep breath and willed large thorns to burst from the ground and encase the creature's arms. Maybe that will buy enough time for someone to kill it..
Asteria took one last glance at the beast and then hastily preoccupied herself with finding a nearby place to hide. I hope it didn't see me! With any luck, they would all live to tell the tale.
One thing was for sure, she wasn't going to visit the capital again anytime soon!
