Hmm... the pagan stuff makes me a little nervous: Christianity is basically solidified in Germany at this point and the medieval church is not known for its open-mindedness. I think I can allow it as a backdrop, but try not to stray too far from the mainstream; if the focus is more on the awkwardness and difficulty of adapting to a foreign culture and faith and less on the occult, I think there shouldn't be too big of a problem.

And your best bet for pagans would be in the Eastern Marches; lots of unconverted Slavic tribes still hanging out there. wink

Actually in my research of swabia a leader of swabia was killed by the church for blasphemy right around here. And when it came to the church and the occult, everything was blind accusation anyway. Couple hundred years later agrippa managed his massive toomb of occult studies. Church threatened him but he simply passed it off at research. He is from colonge. The forebearers of hitler were part of a paganist revial cult. there has always been dark and out there figures who manage to eek by even with the overbearing church glaring at them. Not only occultists, but scientists.

And as history has shown us, the doingsof the church have not always alligned with what their holy book teaches. The borgias were only a couple centuries away, so a man with dark intrest but with a pleasant public face and a fat wallet could do quite nicely for himself.

In my research, up until the very year this roleplay starts, Swabia was still padt of Franconia. being it is so fresh from the tribes I would think that certain habits would die hard.

I will change whatever you desire with no offence taken. I just thought I would present my oppinion on the matter. Not to mention I never said I wanted fUstus himself to forever remain in charge. It would give the bishops much to do if they could have a little holy crusade.

I dunno, I could be wrong, I just think that still deep in the dark ages, there would still be some religious turmoil, the age of enlightenment is yet to be upon us.

I dont know. I dont want to be defiant. I just think it will be good for the story. Even if my country is wiped out early on. It will be fun.

On a side not, forgive me for spelling errors. My phones keyboard is unforgiving.

As long as it isn't overdone and you have a direction you're looking at going for, I suppose it could work out fairly well. I just wanted to make sure the setting isn't being disregarded completely: Since we're all new to each other's RP, never mind in this specific setting, it's worthwhile to check in every now and again just to go, "Hey, you know what you're doing, right?" smile

Thank you for being understanding. sweatdrop

I really dont want to be a bother. Or one of the gung-ho folk who thinks they know everything and that they are always right. Because I only know what I have read on the internet, and everyone knows that it lies.

Never neglect to slap me if im going off course though. I do have a taste for oddity, but do not believe it should conflict. If it does, let me know and I will change accordingly.

I say we should all have fun.

Just checking something... do you know that women could not inherit in medieval ages, right? I saw your duke has a daughter, and the idea of an arranged marriage came to me instantly... Not now, of course, my young earl is still stablishing, but it might be good for both of us, as her father (your character) can't have any more children, if I remember well.

I know she cant inherit it directly, (though that wouldnt be the case in all places), tgey just look to her as an heir since they have nobody else. they know their name will be removed from the house with their death, assuming their daughter is married.

Well the idea that women can't inherit isn't strictly true and really up to interpretation: Can she inherit, provided her husband is the one that actually rules? If she can't inherit at all, can inheritance pass through her to her sons? Etc.
Something to keep in mind is that "rules" about inheritance and the like were often bent, if not outright disregarded, when the powers that be didn't like their outcome. There's a penalty, of course -- breaking from expectation tends not to sit well with most people -- but sometimes powerful people decide it's worth paying.

...anyway, continue your conversation... mrgreen

Yes, she can inherit, but she would have to be married or, at least, have a strong personality and a powerful army. More conservative nobles could be against the idea, and some of them could try to make things go back to normal in a very aggressive way.
And she is just the child of a duke. If the new king decides against her, she could be forced to give up all she has. I admit it was a hard time for females, but things like that are what will make the roleplay more fun for you, making you think how many options she has to continue with her life.
Playing a male is boring, I can assure you, so I chose the only county Hermit was offering (In the hopes that my liege gives me some problems to deal with)

Exactly. Just make some evil plans against me and I will try to settle them. Bring the worst you can think of! mrgreen

By the way, young Ralph is far from his domain. Maybe something bad will happen while he is away? twisted

So are we all supposed to be at Frankfurt now? To assist in deciding who is king? Or are we supposed to be just doing whatever?

Sorry. I've been working all day and my brain is mushed out.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear (still having some adjustment pains from creating versus running the game). Right now all rulers should either be in Frankfurt or have a representative present.

Ok, did what I think will be the last tweak to the stats: Brought Saxony and Bavaria down just a bit. The rules are probably pretty solid, but there will obviously be some evolution as we actually go along and find weak points. Still, I think we have a pretty solid foundation to really get things started. biggrin

Maybe some will need to know where the actual roleplaying is happening, I know gaia forums can be confusing sometimes. I had some trouble getting my court started too.
