I HAVE AN IDEA TO ADVERTISE!

We could open a Guild-sponsored/guild-based art shop!

The art shop could have the name of the guild, 'kay? and be themed after it. The art sold would all be dragon or Pern related, like avatar art w/ firelizard or dragon inclusive, or firelizard/dragon/watchweyr adoptable, or dragon-like avatar art (your avatar like a dragon)

We could use it to make some gold for competition prizes and new-member packs.


I kinda think we need to have new members go through a process before they can apply for a character, like participate in a competition or post a certain amount of posts in the discussion forums, just so we know we have active members who are willing to work a bit and literate members who can actually contribute to a story as complex as this.

Some competition ideas?

Characterization based:
- develop a character in a limited amount of words and including a random quote
- develop a specific character (predetermined)
- RP a volunteer's character to their satisfaction

Literacy based:
- fix all the errors! (boring)
- improve upon an illiterate post

EX:... i through dwn me wings and flewed really fast with wind that was cold freezing my nose n it falls off aand dragon catches it...

(And the goal would be to actually make that into a real post, and the one who does it best wins)

Community based:
- member of the month
- greatest amount of literate posts
- whose post was that? (guess which member posted the post (with specific details AKA names and locations removed))
- who am I? (guess which member the description is of)

Oh, first input: Girl who heard dragons was Aramina, she married Jayge Lilcamp and they're now holders at Paradise River in Southern. Although they obviously wouldn't be alive now.

I agree, we need to be sure that our people are literate before joining - but we can't be too picky ;P I've seen some good story'd guilds die because they didn't let many people in. Ofc, I've seen some pretty illiterate ones too, accepting anyone just because they needed members..
But the competition idea lets them participate without them actually spoiling the main roleplay. I like it : D
I love those contest ideas! Paha, especially the 'improving an illiterate post' one.. teehee. And community based is a varry good idea :3

@Beth- Oh yeah, but they DID have children, and the rest of Pern knew about them. The dragons held them in high esteem, too, so it stands to reason that Paradise would continue to thrive, even if they didn't.

Sorry if I post strange references to characters or he books. I honestly can't remember all of them all the time (even Anne couldn't), and I don't typically have a book here to reference, so that's why I just... describe them.

@Ei: *grins* I love hosting competitions, too! It's a great way to provide entertainment, and to improve! I'm ALWAYS trying to find fun ways to improve my literacy and others, you know, practice makes perfect!

ep, you're right, though... sweatdrop it's a fine line between being too picky and being careful. But if we just have 'em compete a bit and only accept the applications that show some level of semi-literacy, plus just watching the forums to weed out lazy people, we should be good, right? *thinks*

I'm trying to organise in my head what else we need to do before we open :/ I posted rules and stuff, and some rules about profiles and the subforum roleplaying..
There's a thread in the main forum that is only half done, because I didn't have the heart to finish explaining about dragons and such -.-
I'm so bad at explaining stuff sternly D;

And I really think head haunchoes (important characters like weyr leaders, seconds, etc) shouldn't be NPC, and, since we're the only active members, we should probably play them.

I don't mind who gets the newest gold and bronze eggs and other positions of importance (master craftsmen, masterharper etc) as long as I can have my Esrith :3 And two characters (brown and green) that I shall introduce way later, but that'll be okay.
I agree though ^^ But some roleplayers can be rewarded with better possibilities and such as they become more involved and trustworthy in repsonsibility within the guild ^^

If you see this, PM me, and we'll see if we can get this show on the road! I was re-reading some of the books, and I'm all in the zone for this roleplay and everything. With Christmas holidays coming, I should be able to be writing a lot more of the holiday, too, so you can enjoy that and not worry about the guild (despite the fact that I've neglected it so long.. I feel so bad D smile

(laughs) Guess what? I didn't see it pre-Christmas. I'm too lazy and slow. And my current schedule is kinda sorta absolutely swamped, but I said I'd do what I can to help this thing keep going and so I shall!

So-- basically it's just the boring stuff now.... getting everything going and advertising and starting that art shop I never even started on... *sigh*

OH! We could make a... darn it, I forgot the word! The... the gaia account just for the guild, so we have a place to store $ and send notes and stuff... I want to call it a FOB, but that's what unlocks your car...

And I don't like the new Pern books. Too... abrupt? Kinda lacking in the story telling department. And I had such faith in Todd-boy, too! DragonBlood was INCREDIBLE!



OMFreakingG! This story takes place so far in the future that maybe the dragons get sick again (after everything gets going in the forums, of course)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I just totally had a mini seizure just thinking about it! EEEEEPPPPPIIIIIICCC! Let me just- catch me breath--------

Because of the short period of time when there was the tech, things like records of the passes would be available because they were preserved, and Flar and Lessa all all of those folks were well on their way to rediscovering those secret rooms at Benden, and so maybe they looked into it and prepared stuff for if it ever happened again, so our riders and dragons could find it and actually have a hope of saving themselves.

Also, I just realized that in Skies of Pern the dragons were leaning how to use their latent telekinetic abilities. So perhaps it would be that the holders hire the rider/dragon pair to help in construction and the like, as well as transportation. That could very well lead to a decline in tech, considering how they wouldn't have to lift a hammer half as much if they could coerce the dragons into doing it.



And what do you think of causing some more drama with the hatching.... TWO queen eggs, one very, very much smaller, though, so that it's mistaken for a blue or green?

We can always make a brand new email account for the mule, too, so that we don't have to use another mule or one of our own emails to make a new one?

We already formed a general story line and have a general idea of the world and goings-on, but for some reason it still feels a tad... choppy. Maybe because I just got up and haven't had my coffee yet and am late for work-- lol, what a mess! But I got internet on my phone now so I should be able to check up periodically during breaks. What am I talking about? urgh...

Oh, and I made a character profile for you to check out if you feel up to it whenever you get around to it. I'm not sure if my details really match up with your train of thought.

And no, you aren't bad at being a guild owner, your just a normal busy person with a normal busy life. It's not a bad thing to have priorities. In fact, I frown on those owners that spend every breathing second working on their guilds. Yeah, it makes for a nice guild, but dude, get a life!

Oh dear, I can track my exact moment of hiatus to the start of my exam grind last year! Still, I really want to go ahead with this guild one day - I like the premise and feel we're supplying something I haven't found elsewhere on Gaia. And it seems a great way to work on both my art and writing (I need all the practice I can get...).

The main reason I suddenly came back to this guild is because I was rereading Dragondrums and found a character doodle in between the pages.. and holy crow, I'm so sorry I went AWOL! I miss this >.>

I'm not sure if you're still around, Bree, and it's totally cool if you're done with this guild (i'm so bad at this ;- wink but just to say I will once again be checking back here, and maybe working on some character profiles for NPCs... yeah. Hi guild xD
