I am aware of all things that are needed for your health, safety, and happiness. Again he nudged her toward the carrots, trampling down the the emotions that came to him just from the contact of the nudge.

She gave him a slightly odd look as she went where she was nudged. She stepped ahead. Down the back of her shirt and pants was a glaringly bright white stripe of paint against the black cloth. "I'm not your pack," she chided gently. They're the ones you need to look after. But thank you."

I have no pack. It is my duty to watch over you now, little skunk. Eric turned his wolf head up at her, his eyes smiling as best they could in wolf form.

She blinked then just started at him, a million questions going though her head. She asked none of them, spotting the carrots instead. She plucked one carefully and blew off the dirt. "Oh wow, this looks good."

"Then you should eat it. His large paws dug up two more and he pushed them toward her with his muzzle.

She gave him another odd look then nodded. "I can wash these back at the house. " she paused, studying him, then shrugged. "Thank you. I hadn't been aware that wolves were quite so intelligent, but I suppose I should have guessed." She bowed deeply then headed out of the woods.

He waited for her to get out of site so that he could follow her. Engaging her was out of the question, but he needed to see her home safely. He would not sleep this night unless he knew she was safe. He shook his head. These instincts were foreign to him, making it hard for him to keep control. His entire being was screaming for him to take her where she would be safe and he would be able to care for her until she came of age.

She slipped out of the forest to a small home in the little, almost nonexistent, town. The house at the edge closest to the forest had a trellis on it that had once had flowers. she tucked her carrots into her bots then began climbing it to the wide open window on the second floor. she moved with the body of an athlete but the slight clumsiness of either unfamiliarity with the activity, or perhaps a growth spurt.

He turned when he was satisfied she was safe. He shifted, launching himself into the air as he did. He arrived at his large home and entered through the front door, locking it and weaving his safeguards. Anton came into the entry hall upon hearing the door open.
"Eric...you are home later than expected. Did you find an undead?"
Eric smiled warmly at the man who had served him faithfully for most of his life. Anton and his wife were as much a part of his family as his brothers were. "Nay, no vampire this night. But an interesting lass."
"A lady? How is it you came upon a her?"
Eric laughed lightly, shaking his head. "No lady. A child masquerading as a lady. Just short of the proper age."
Anton's face grew dim. "I am sorry. But she is the one, no?" His accent was thick at the moment, worry for Eric taking precedent over his desire to fit into this American society.
"Aye, she is...but I cannot claim her yet. Only watch and guard her until the time is right." He shrugged, moving for the basement door. "If you'll excuse me, my friend, it has been a night of trials for me."
"I will see you in the evening, Eric. May the soil be as rich as your homeland's."

The next evening she would be back again, arriving a bit before sundown. A different black turtleneck, black leather pants this time, and again, white stripe down her back. She had a cloth bag beside her and a Tupperware full of beef. She was laying back on the grass, again surrounded with animals, looking pleased.

Eric strode out of the woods as the sun set, large paws leaving prints in the soft ground. He sat down in front of her, eyes checking to make sure she was healthy and safe. You have returned, as have I. You are well this night?

She chuckled a bit. "more then well. I'm actually full. I forgot what it feels like to be fully full. I was able to filch some pasta before she put her meat sauce all over it, and I had enough after my lunch to buy two bananas for tomorrow. And the carrots yesterday were wonderful. Thank you. Oh, here. She made Rib eye for dinner." she sat up and opened the Tupperware. "Enjoy."

He pulled the steak out of the tupperware gingerly, burying it in the ground for "later." Your thoughtfulness is touching to an old wolf.
