It wasn't long enough. J/K lol I'm glad to hear that. I've heard some atheist stories and one time an atheist wanted to help out a church group at a homeless shelter and they told him to leave which made him a little upset. So I very much dislike when Christians give atheists a reason to hate us. However, if an atheists dislikes you simply because you are a Christian, don't worry, Jesus told us that that would happen. When the disciples were chased out of a town with stones they rejoiced because they were being persecuted for Christ's sake. I hope your friend accepts Christ. . .

Oop!! good luck. . . Anyway I've only spoken to atheists online. My first run-in with atheists was on Yahoo answers. I was like okay I'll answer and ask Biblical questions and throw my view out there and suddenly all these atheists started throwing verbal punches at me! I was freaked out and thought about what they said for days . . . when I was calmed i tried again and the same thing happened. I couldn't win. since then I came to the conclusion that I have to be careful around atheists not to offend them... but thats not right either. Jesus told us to rejoice when stuff like that happened. And I need to defend my faith so I try not to offend Atheist but I'm not going to tell them that what they believe is okay. I don't have all the answers and I don't claim to be some super spiritual person. God is working in me and let me just there is a lot of work to be done.

Atheists seem just as anyone else who is misled. You may be rattled by words, maybe because they sound logical to you, and the logic combats your faith. Tell me, is it logical that a man died and rose from the dead? Is it logical that he took 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish, and was able to feed 5,000? Is it logical that He walked on water; that he turned water into wine; that he healed the sick and blind and could raise the dead? Is it logical that He was born of a virgin?

You see, God defies much of logic. In reality, it isn't actually illogical, as God, being Creator, can bend or even break physical laws. He MADE these, so how could He ever be limited by them? However... to the world, your words will seem illogical, and they can't hear. Those who hear what you say hear only by faith, and not by knowledge or logic.

Essentially, don't worry about confrontation with anyone. Yes, they may disagree with you, and can become unpleasant. How else should people react if you tell them that the way they have lived for so long is wrong? People build up beliefs, and these can be hard to shine light through. Being worried, and being afraid of their words only hinders you from telling them, and helping them. It all may seem illogical to them, but you'd be surprised how these words reach people, even beyond what they understand themselves.

It is not you speaking, but the Spirit in you. Let Him speak.

God is so awesome y'know? He gives us (his people) understanding. It says somewhere in the BIble that the hidden things are reveled to us. (if you know what verse i mean feel free to say so) Sometimes non believers say things and I can't understand how they are confused or simply don't get it. When I was doing a research Paper on child discipline, this lady was talking about how she is completely against spanking because she can't understand how a parent expects the child to fear AND love them. Well, we fear and love God so we understand how the two co-exist. and we as americas should love america and fear it's laws. By fear I don't mean be afraid of it. We mean respect and cautious not to break the rules. This is only one example. there are many other things that are so simple to us yet some unbelievers if not all have difficulty grasping the idea. y'know? Not even spiritual stuff even life morals they don't understand. like health and emotion benefits of sexual abstinence. God says to not do it because he knows of the physical and emotional dangers of premarital sex. Yet some ppl just don't get it. they assume God is a party pooper out to ruin everyone's fun. They just don't get it . . . sigh . . It was just a thought. . . ignore me or comment it's up to you. .

Ps. I was rambling so I'm not exactly sure what i wrote and I'm too lazy to review what i wrote. . .

Hey Tenma! You know what I've been thinking lately? I think God asks too much of us. You know? I mean we have to pray without ceasing and only watch christian movies and only listen to christian music and not think anything bad, etc. and I know that God wants us to glorify him in all we do but we can't possibly do that!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 16, 2009 1:30 pm

Hey Neuro! Where have you been?! XD Now about that. . . God certainly does not ask too much from us in a sense that doing those things is the LEAST we could do. God is so unimaginably Beautiful, Glorious, Holy, Worthy etc. ect. that we could never DO anything for God. In that sense yes He asks too much of us as in We could NEVER live up to His standards. Yet we must strive to live to glorify HIM in all we do. That doesn't only mean listen to christian music and watch christian movies. You can glorify God when you play sports, when you go to school, when you hang with friends. You can even glorify God when you eat, watch T.V, or even going to the bathroom! You can try to glorify God in ALL you do. Everytime we do something that doesn't glorify God, we sin. So now I do have a question about this: When we watch anime, listen to heavy metal, or eat junk food (not really bad things )can we glorify God that way? If not, are we sinning? what do you guys think?

I like your terms. One exception, though. "Theotokos" while conceptually Catholic, is a term more used in the Orthodox church.

"Minor" point but then again, we have fractured time and again over other 'minor' points, such as the place of the Holy Spirit in the trinity (speaking of Orthodox)

"The best apologetic is a Saint" I haven't yet recalled which Catholic said that originally. It wasn't me though.

"But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." —Matthew 19:26

St. John 8:11b “…And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

Christ chose the cross, we must also. Christ chose to die, so must we.

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

I look at the lives of apostles and Saints and see at least one common act. They chose death.

Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. "

We must die as Paul and others did and do. These things God asks are only possible if God does them.

Hard as it is to hear, and I am no different and perhaps worse than you, is that we cannot be friends with the world.

I think the world usually doesn't hate us enough, because we have compromised with it, which means that it has won.

Flagrums and crosses are a far cry from Xboxs and reality TV.

It gets even 'funnier', since we bemoan the whips and crosses which others suffer. Never mind embracing our own.

We want salvation without blood, and suffering without wounds.

Is mercy always pleasant? The sleeper hates the hand that shakes.

Peace

Fynnegann
Theological discussions are fun :3

The differences between Catholic Christians and other branches of Christianity (because Catholics are indeed Christian) on Mary as Theotokos, as well as the difference in the number of canonical books of scripture From Catholic Bibles and Christian Bibles. Yourself?

Other topics I'm game for are saints and their oftentimes misunderstood relationship concerning prayer and the Rosary. Well, I'm pretty much game for anything. Civil debate is all fine and dandy, after all. biggrin

The hub of the entire Catholic Church is the eucharist. We, along with the Orthodox say "Who" , most others say "What".

Big, big difference. This difference is also the hub for the others. Also, there is an unintentional and understandable bias in the quote. If Catholics are indeed "The Church", then it is not a branch, but the trunk, or 'pillar' perhaps.

If Christians are 'little Christs' and you are a Christian, and the atheist has accepted you then ergo...

Again "The best apologetic is a Saint" But "Don't get cocky."

Speaking of...

"Preach the gospel at all times -- If necessary, use words."
