[ ... the begining of the end ... ]

Pulling his flask out for the umpteenth time that night, Dr. Marijus Virile took a long swig of the liquor that rest inside. A thick, cold liquid that was akin to drinking fire as it burned down his throat. He gave a satisfied sigh wiping the dribble from his lips with the back of his hands as he adjusted his glasses. His intense Jade eyes were analyzing data he'd just received from a doctor a few towns over.

They were working on the latest medical research that would become a great impact on the current outbreak of illnesses in the area. Even for Marijus he couldn't understand the sudden population of sick individuals that had flooded his ward. Nurses and doctors were working around the clock to lessen the effects this strange disease seemed to have. No... it was not a disease, it was a virulent substance. Looked sporic in origin but was easily transfered through a simple sneeze or transfer of bodily fluid.

Jaded eyes glared madly at the transcripts before them. Trying to make sense of the data but failing miserably. Having spent the better part of the day, dragging on into the night, Marijus was for the most part... drunk. His ability to think let alone function was null. "Damn."

The door to the lab opened to produce a slender woman wearing a traditional white lab coat that was customary of medical techs. "You're drunk again." The woman stated the obvious as she slipped passed her co-worker.

"So what... its not like nae get any information from these transcripts. That doctor tis an idiot. What makes him 'tink dis information will help in a cure?" Marijus spat in his rich brogue, reaching for his flask he bent back - downing more of the fiery liquid. "Nae don't have time te waste on false information. Tell nae you have good news, Becca."

"Nae don't." Becca replied mocking his accent.

"Get out!"

Becca chuckled knowing Dr. Marijus was just a bit testy this evening. Working a double shift could do that to a person. But when said person had no life the best he could do was spend his free time in research. "You do realize this is unhealthy, even for you. Get out of here already. I can handle things from here."

Marijus snorted. "Like hell. Nae just go home and drink nae-self into coma. Tis better nae stay and make use of free time more productively."

Becca sighed. If it was one thing she knew, it was that Dr. Marijus simply could not let a puzzle go unsolved. "Fine I won't push you but at least take a break. Here, I need you to take these samples to storage. The day shift will be in to analyse the subject matter inside so we need to keep the bottles at room temperature."

"Nae know..." Marijus glared, stalking over to Becca with playful annoyance. "What do nae get in return?"

"You get to keep what makes nae a man." She eyed him unwaivering before nudging him with an elbow. "Go and don't forget to bring back some empty bottles. I have more work to do."

"Ja ja.." Sighing he took the tray full of bottles heading from the lab down the hall. It was dark and empty in the ward save for the few subjects (patients) that had been admitted under research observation; the rest of the staff had gone home for the night. Rounding a few corners, Marijus finally made it to storage where entered. The room was bigger than expected but decent for storing various items of medical use. Toward the back of the room were a line of cooling units, most of the items needed were kept sterile and cool. Toward the left of the cooling units were cases that held lighting inside. They were used for specimen that needed to stay under room temperature. This was were Marijus place the tray of bottles making sure they were marked properly.

He went to an adjecent unit pulling out box that housed freshly dilivered bottles. Hefting the box onto his shoulder he left the storage room, heading back down to the lab. "Here are ya bottles." He called out, not seeing Becca at first. Looking past the box into the room, he noticed she was no where to be found. "Great." He muttered setting the box down. With nothing else to do, he went about opening the box pulling out the bottles as he placed them one by one on a new tray for Becca to use once she returned.

It wasn't until he reached the final bottle that his attention went from the usual bored routine look to a curious prodding. Pulling the bottle fully from the box he eyed it suspiciously, doing the same to the room. This was not a standard bottle the ward used; he knew. The question remained, how did the bottle get past packaging detail. Weren't they doing their jobs anymore? Even so it was a very interesting piece of glass, the design although bright held some aging tones to it, almost sickly in appearance but even that gave it the appeal.

"Did you get the bottles." The voice of Becca startled Marijus enough that he fumbled with the bottle in hand catching it a few times before finally securing it close to his chest.

"Damn it woman! Can't ya see nae busy?" He seethed though it lacked any venom and soon, he calmed turning back to the interesting find. "Eh? Have ya ever seen anyt'ing like tis?" Holding up the bottle for Becca to see he analyzed her expression and knew instantly that it wasn't hers. Good. It was settled at that point, he would take it home. "Ah whatever... nae put the bottles out for ya. Think nae gonna take ya advice and go home."

Becca realized what this was about and smirked knowingly. "Taking the bottle are you?"

"So what if nae am. Ya gonna stop nae?" He stopped short of the door slipping out of his personalized lab coat before drapping it over his shoulder. "Of course not lass... it would be a price ya not yet ready to pay." Waggling his brow he pushed his glasses up for emphasis before making a silent exit, the only sound being his steel toe boots pounding against flooring. The night had ended well but the day would begin with an interesting change to a certain doctor's life. Only time would tell...

[ ... home sweet home ... ]

"Hmm... nae can probably use tis for me new flask... bit bulky though." Marijus shook the bottle once more unable to decipher if there were something in it or not. It was light weight but something about the density felt off. "Maybe if nae open it?" He questioned himself. As such, he did make several attempts at opening the bottle but the glass plug simply would not budge. A few times he even thought to smash the glass on the ground just to see if there were anything of value inside; however, he opted to keep it as a decorative memento of his long hours at the ward.

Making his way home he found himself in front of a tavern. It was a small nook where he managed to cut a deal with the landlord in letting him have his best room. Paying all his fees in full; he got the nook on the top level. It wasn't much but it served its purpose well. Kicking open his door, after fumbling with the keys, Marijus entered his small home. He kicked the door closed behind him not bothering to lock it. No one in the tavern was crazy enough to break in on him and even less likely when they knew he was home... and drunk. Yes he was pretty out of it despite the interesting find. With bottle in hand and flask in the other he looked between them having a real delima. Drink more and pass out or spend a little time in his better state of mind figuring this thing out.

"Aye... what's to figure out?" He yelled at no one. Setting the bottle on the coffee table he tossed the flask down on his sofa and flopped down straight after. The bottle had been an interesting find but now that he'd brought it home what was he to do? Maybe stick flowers in it but then that would require an open container which he'd already tried opening the silly thing. Besides he didn't like flowers enough to be sticking them in a vase to die a slow, meaningless death. Using it as a new flask was out of the question, too bulky and it wouldn't withstand the damage and stressed required for the job. Speaking of which, Marijus hurriedly reached for his flask to take another hearty drink before turning to the bottle again. "Ack! Screw it..." He spat and stood to his feet snatching up said bottle. He went to his mantle which rest over a fireplace, small in size just like everything else in his humble home. Setting the bottle there he didn't think to bother it much the days following. Only spending a few days in between to clean it of dust and make certain no thief slipped in through the night. Why anyone would want to steal it - he had no clue - but when you find something no one wanted, a lot of curious brows tend to raise.

[ ... what is that putrid smell? ... ]

It had been a few days since bringing home the bottle. Checking in on it like a mother hen, Marijus had been satisfied of the find. A decorative addition to his otherwise sterile home... nothing but white graced these walls aside from the clothing he wore on the daily, he just didn't have the time or patience to deal with a mundane idea such as home accessorizing. No one would come by to visit him and even if they did he'd easily send them away. Unless it was a pretty lady wanting some company of course.

This particular morning, Marijus had been content to sleep in. He didn't have to go to work until much later and even then, he knew Becca would send him home if he showed up with liquor on his breath. Speaking of which he reached under his pillow to pull out his flask taking his first drink of the day... unless you counted earlier that morning before the sun had risen. Even so he sat up after catching a whiff of something rather unsavory. "What de hell?" He opened a single eye peeking at the flask with a crinkle to his nose. He sniffed the flask but found nothing out of the ordinary, the usual strong oder attacked his nostrils waking him fully. Irritated that his morning had been interrupted he jumped out of bed with a growl stalking out of his room. Upon entering the living room area the smell hit him full force knocking him back into his room where he slammed the door quickly. "Holy hell..." he shrieked his eyes tearing up from the stench. Who in their right mind could sleep through
that?

There was no way he'd leave his home smelling like that. First, he needed to find where the smell was coming from then promptly get rid of it. Shuffling around his room he looked for anything he could use to lessen the stench. Knocking over books, papers and other assortment of items he found one of few face masks he often used in the lab. "Oh thank de gods." He breathed putting the mask over his mouth and nose. He secured it tightly then ventured to the adjacent room. Opening the door he could smell it; even with the mask it did little to protect him but at the very least he wouldn't be breathing in its toxins too much.

Looking around he tried desperately to pinpoint the location of the smell, noting that his balcony window had been left open all night. It was frigid but the smell over powered even the fresh sea breeze that slipped into the room. For some reason jaded eyes shifted toward the bottle sitting on the mantle and there it was, a mist rising from the bottle. This was not normal... "Curiouser and curiouser..." Tip-toeing to the mantle he noted a few things from the strange bottle, the mist, the dullness in its color from before and a strange wave of sorts steaming from it. The closer he got the more the stench seemed to dance around him, eventually it clung to him like a second skin. Marijus shivered. His eyes watered and his mouth salivated from the over powering effects the bottle had... and almost in that instant when he thought he would vomit, the smell subsided. With watery jade eyes, Marijus blinked a few times to get his vision cleared of fumes. Pulling the mask away he stepped out onto the balcony to take in a few breaths of fresh air. It was at times like these that he needed a good drink, however, he left his flask in the bedroom. No matter pulling a few wooden boards from the side of the balcony would produce a cupboard, in it a spare flask. A true alcoholic always knew to have a spare for emergency situations. This was one of them, as he downed the drink sparing no breaks in between. By the time he had his fill the flask was empty. Only then did his attention return to the strange bottle with the putrid smell.

So many questions and not a soul to answer them. He returned to his earlier investigation, making his way to the bottle before poking at it. The mist had thickened and wrapped around his hand as if too pull him closer but he snatched it away quickly. Then his eyes caught something, the most unusual of acts, the bottle not only had mist but strange waves, maybe even clouds of some sort. They danced around the bottle along with the mist; when he had pulled his hand away the little clouds dropped. Putting his hand back out the clouds rose high almost as if dancing as they bounced up and down. "Hmm... so can yae respond?" He asked. Nothing happened. "Well hell, why yae gotta smell so bad?" Again nothing happened. Only when he moved his hand away the clouds fell lower as the mist continued to swirl. Marijus simply grunted. There was no hope for it now. He was caught, too damn curious for his own good as he headed for the kitchen. "Fine nae will keep yae, but if yae gonna keep stinking up the place maybe yae shouldn't be in mae house..." He muttered to himself mostly pretty sure the bottle couldn't understand him at all. Heck, why was he talking to it anyway. "Drink too much." He confirmed and decided a nice hot cup of Joe would do him some good.

[ ... down with the sickness ... ]

About a week had passed since that faithful day when Marijus had found the bottle stashed away in a box at work. A week before bringing it home and promptly deciding that it would be the ideal conversation piece despite never having much company over to visit with. Yes a week.... and now he was stuck in bed tossing his liquor and any other substance he'd been eating prior to that week.

"Ugh..." Rolling over in bed he let his arm drap over his face shading his eyes from the late evening sun. The blinds were closed but even so it was a decent day to be out exploring the market place, not holed up in bed up chucking the beef stroginoff he'd had the night before. A bucket lay strategically next to his bed, none too surprising the bottle he'd procured was sitting on his night stand. That racey oder still perfumating his home but it didn't bother him half as much as before. He'd grown used to it somehow. Still it didn't make matters any better when he caught wind of it and began up chucking anew in the bucket.

When he was done spewing his guts he rolled over on his back once again letting his body adjust to the reprieve. It was times like these he wished to have at least one friend in the world. Someone capable of taking care of him. Chuckling nervously to himself he shifted his head gazing at the bottle. Lately it had become his one true companion and like so many times before he found himself having an intellectual converstion with it. "Aye... yae payin' attention? Dis be what happen when us weak humans get sick. It sucks even more when a doctor like mae self get sick." He cracked a half hearted smile as he rolled over again, his back facing the bottle.

"Dis really blows..." He muttered his body finally falling under the stress it took to keep his eyes open. Soon he found himself dozing into a deep slumber.

Vaguely, the enigmatic doctor could feel hands on his body. Delicate and caring hands, cool as well, he could tell by the scorching heat that seemed to over take him. Soon that hands disappeared and he let out a strangled grunt in hopes they would return. Instead something cooler had been drapped over his head. He let out a satisfied sigh at the new coolness but furrowed his brow as sleep was slow to remove itself from him. Eyes began to open but for a split moment as they did he saw the strangest of visions... "Who are yae?"

Becca sighed expecting nothing less from the "good doctor" he had his way of being absentminded even in sickness. "It's Becca you idiot. You didn't come into work today, the first in many years. I had no choice but to come check on you." Becca turned dark chocolate eyes upon Marijus a furrow of concern etched across her brow. "I knew I shouldn't have kept you so late last night. You looked pale even then."

"Huh? Wait, how yae get in?" He inquired, almost certain he didn't have any spare keys lying around.

"The landlord. He said you hadn't made a sound all day and didn't even come down to the bar for your usual tit-for-tat." Becca reached over to take the cloth she had placed over his head. Dipping it in a basin of cool water she ringed it out before replacing it again. "When I saw you knocked out I thought initially you'd drunken yourself into a coma but it was obvious that, that wasn't the case. You're deathly ill, Marijus. I've never seen you so pale and that's saying a lot with the kind of tan you have." She reached in her purse pulling out a compact which she showed to him, a mirror inside produced the image of his state of being.

A startled yelp escaped his lips as he shot up suddenly then quickly regreted the sudden movement. Falling back on the pillow he draped his arm over his head sheilding himself from any pain he could. "Crap! Nae look like death warmed over. Aye, what's wrong with mae?"

"You're sick is what. I want you to stay out of the lab for a few days. I can handle things there, besides I called in Loaf to take your shift so work doesn't pile up. Just you stay here and relax." Becca sighed reaching for the cloth to clean it once more before replacing it on his forehead.

"Aye." Marijus didn't bother fighting her on this. His image was that of a man who'd been sick for days but it'd only been that day he felt like the pits. Maybe as time had progressed he did feel a little under the weather.

It was as his mind drifted into deep thought that he missed Becca's eyes shift to the bottle on his night stand. She remembered it from a week prior. "Isn't this that bottle?" She asked.

"Ja." Marijus replied his thoughts all jumbled. "Isn't it strange, the mist around it?"

Becca turned to Marijus then the bottle. "What mist?" She asked without skipping a beat. "What's really strange is that rancid smell." She leaned forward sniffing the air before turning up her nose. "Marijus this bottle reeks. Maybe you should get rid of it.. I'm sure this is what's making you sick. Heck I'm getting sick just thinking about it." Though she couldn't have been any further from the truth. Reaching out to pluck the bottle in hand she stood abruptly ready to dispose of the offending substance.

Strong hands shout out in an instant wrapping around her wrists before she could make a single step. "Don't." Marijus warned his tone leaving no room for argument. He looked up with jaded eyes his pale face looking deathly by comparison of the days before. "Nae will deal with the bottle on mae own terms. Leave it."

"But ... Marijus..." Becca began but noted the look on his face. She hated arguing with him, even more in this state. "Fine but if you don't get any better within a day or so. I'll be back for extermination detail." She huffed setting the bottle back where it had been, giving it a side long glance before focusing her attentions fully on Marijus.

"Thanks."

Becca blinked. "Riiiight... I think you're even becoming delusional. Since when does Dr. Marijus thank anyone?" She joked morbidly.

Marijus rolled his eyes as he shifted in the bed. "Get out... nae going to rest now." His tone lacked any venom and probably held a bit of good cheer before he lifted a weak hand and motioned for the door.

Becca chuckled but didn't protest standing to her feet. "Alright. I get it. Just rest up. I'll be back later to check on you." She confirmed. Gathering her things she eyed the bottles suspiciously before making her leave.

Marijus on the other hand was still trying to figure out why she hadn't seen the mist. He wasn't going crazy was he? Turning slightly he noted the bottle and sure enough the mist swirled around it, taunting him. He turned again his back to the bottle. "Don't tempt me." He muttered, a threat certain on his lips. Maybe he should toss the thing. And then he remembered something, there had been a vision, although minute, he couldn't have mistaken it. He had felt a hand and it was nothing like a woman's. "All nae ask is to get through dis and nae will never drink again." He snorted, "Okay so maybe nae won't drink so much."

[ ... the mushroom kingdom ... ]

Two days and a few spiked cough serums later, Marijus was feeling much better. While he still had a sore throat, a bit of the sniffles, and a hang over from the mixture of liquor and cough serum; all in all he was doing good. Moving about his home, he had been doing some much needed sterilization. Being sick for that long would definitely leave germs just waiting to wreck havoc on his immune system again.

With face mask secured, some latex gloves and cleaning solutions he began in the kitchen working his way through dishes, counter tops, floors, cupboards... anything that could leave a pesky germ he was on it like white on rice. He then moved to the bathroom where the most germs lay, sterilizing the room with a vengeance. The toilet undertaking most of his wrath.

When he was done with that he took a break long enough to down more liquor-cough serum before heading to his room to give it the most work. Rather than washing his linen he took them out back past the tavern and burned them. This was the result of a man who was a certified clean freak or mysophobic. When he was done with disposing of his linen he made a quick trip to the store buying new sterile white linen, pillows, blankets and more cleaning solution. When he returned he replaced his bed with new linen and continues his cleaning ritual in the living room.

It was during his insane cleaning session that he realized something. The usual odor that came from the bottle had subsided considerably. In fact it was almost non-existent. Turning to the bottle which sat idly on his mantle he walked over to it with a solemn gaze. The swirls that were strong around it looked weak, the usual odor still there but barely. Tilting his head to the side he wondered just what was going on. "Yae sick?" He questioned the bottle finding the idea ridiculous. A bottle didn't get sick but judging from the lax movements of the mist around it; Marijus couldn't hold it past him that the bottle in fact, was experiencing some kind of effect.

He looked over his shoulder at the sterilization taking place. Bottles of cleaning solution, buckets of warm water with soap and even cleaning rags were strewn about. Aside from that his white home was in top working order... save for the bottle. It didn't give off the usual perkiness he had come to notice about it. "What should nae do?" He questioned removing his mask and gloves to toss them aside. Clutching the bottle he brought it to himself giving it a once over. "What do nae do?"

He wasn't sure but a knock at his door brought his attention back to reality. With bottle in hand he answered the door to find Becca. "Oh good you look much better today. I had hoped so. I got you a present."

Marijus snorted, "Why?"

Becca huffed pushing past him until she came to the living room. "You been cleaning." She once again stated the obvious. "Good, get those germs outta here so I don't get sick. Come here I want you to see something." Reaching for her purse she pulled out an air tight plastic pouch but the contents inside already looked way past ripe.

"Looks like a liver." He spoke taking a seat next to Becca. He vaguely noticed something about the bottle as he got closer. The mist was a little more animated.

"Yes. It's a liver. From our newest patient. Some strange new virus has just been discovered I had to show you this." Becca marveled as she held up the pouch.

Marijus reached for it and noticed at the corner of his eyes the mist began to became more lively as he reached for it. "Aye." He responded more too the reaction of his bottle then to the infected liver. "How new is dis virus?" He asked.

"A few months or so, it was picked up to the north. A small town there was having some problems with the sickness. Though it shows no sign of being life threatening, poisoning the liver like this will definitely be an issue in the long run. We sent a team up there to get more data but it doesn't look to be a epidemic or anything. If quarantine is necessary our team will send word. But I want you to take a look at this." She paused reaching in her purse to pull out some papers. "Here's what the mushrooms look like."

Marijus took a look, his heart skipped a beat. It was a live drawing of the mushrooms and the design on the hood was in some cases different but similar to his bottle. It wasn't possible... "So how can mushrooms making people sick? Wait, let mae guess. Consumption by mouth?"

"Bingo. They've been eating them ever since the discovery of the mushrooms. Cooks have already attested to that. When one of the patients were brought into the ward, the doctors had to pump his stomach of food particles, spaghetti, meatballs and these little devils were found. He was still suffering even after that so they ran more tests and found his liver was failing. It had to be pulled." She paused to play with her hair though her eyes shifted to the bottle Marijus was holding. "They pulled out his liver and sent it straight to our labs. I noticed something about the liver instantly." Again her eyes shifted from Marijus to the bottle; upon where he clutched it firmly in hand. "It's the design. You noticed it too just now didn't you?"

"It's just a coincidence..." He began but Becca was on her feet in a second.

"That is just not something I deal with. You and I both know it. That bottle isn't safe for you. Maybe you should take it back to the lab, lets analyze it a bit make sure there's no side effects." She paused a minute then glared down on him. "Speaking of which, you've never been sick a day in your life since working with us. And suddenly you find a strange bottle and then not too long after you're ill. Maybe the bottle has some of the mushrooms spores in it or something. We should at least check."

Marijus jumped to his feet, green eyes blazing. "Enough, Becca! Yae not gonna do any'ting with dis bottle unless nae say. So stop with yar analytical prying. Yae came to show mae some'ting. Nae seen it, now get out!" He growled. The idea that he was actually upset at losing possession of the bottle galled him but he couldn't very well help himself, now could he?

Becca was speechless, on the other hand, unable to understand why he was so protective of an object, an inanimate one at that. "Fine! But don't come crying to me if you come down with something because of that bottle!" She huffed snatching her purse and the packaged liver before hurrying out the door with a slam behind her.

So worried was he over the bottle's safety that he hadn't thought to request she leave the liver. At the very least it had somehow made the swirls more active around the bottle. As he looked down on it now he noted the swirls had returned to their idle state. "Damn." He muttered setting the bottle back on his mantle. He looked around again noting all the cleaning utensils. With Becca's visit it provided a bit of insight. "Very well... nae will not clean so much just don't be gettin' any ideas." He sighed to the bottle as he gathered all the cleaning equipment and put them away. While he wouldn't finish up he wasn't about to dirty everything again. Germs were endless they'd find a way to creep into his home when he wasn't looking. So the bottle would just have to wait otherwise.

[ ... let's get down to business ... ]

Another day, another dollar. With Becca huffing over his last outburst, Marijus hadn't seen much of her lately. Even going into the lab had provided her scarcity. A few brief sightings of her long enough to bark out orders before oozing out of sight and out of mind. No matter, Marijus had other things on his mind then to play along with Becca's childish game of silence.

The celebration was close at hand and with it came a lot of merchants. Many of which would possibly come from up North. If so, he could find out more about those mushrooms and fill in the pieces to the missing puzzle that surrounded this bottle. Checking his provisions for the evening he gathered what he needed slipping the smaller items in his pocket while his bottle and other bulkier items were put in his pouch.

It was a nice day out despite the sniffles he didn't mind being in the crisp air just so long as he had his trusty flask. Making sure his bottle was secured in the hip pouch he wore he made his way to the door. Taking a last look around he exit, heading out into the day. Hopefully the celebration would warrant some information. If not...

[ ... you can't save them all ... ]

"Dr. Virile!"

Marijus heard the sound of hurried feet long before his name was called. He had just finished with some samples that had been brought to him earlier that day. The same sickness from the mushroom outbreak up North; while they hadn't claimed any lives many of the people were still quite ill. He sighed removing his mask, gloves and goggles before turning to address the frantic nurse. "What yae be wantin'?" He questioned, tossing his latex gloves in the trash.

"There's a new patient that was just brought in. The doctor in charge of her care can't think of a proper diagnosis. He asked for your help and sent me to find you." The nurse looked worried but Marjius was used to these sort of things.

Nodding he stepped toward the door placing a comforting hand on the nurse's shoulder. "Calm down, let's go see what we can find." He offered. The nurse nodded and they both hurried to the patients ward.

Once there, Marijus went straight for the doctor's office knocking softly before entering. "Dr. Monty, you called for me?"

The man behind the desk looked up his face somber and stern. "Dr. Virile, my current patient seems to be ill from something I am unable to diagnose. I've known you for some time now and you are exceptional in this area." He paused looking over the files of his patient. "These files are what I have of her test results. To say the least it is ... unusual." Handing them off Marijus took a look at the information. He noticed first the girl was quite young seven-years to be exact and what he noticed next made his heart skip a beat.

"Cybil?" He breathed, there just couldn't be any other way around it. How many little girls out there were named Cybil? To confirm the child he had to see her and instantly he took the file with him as he headed out of the office to the patient's room. Doctor Monty was left wondering just what had Marijus in such a quandary.

Following quickly after him he rounded a corner and noticed Marijus standing just outside of the patient's room. "Do you know her?" He questioned.

Marijus nodded, "Briefly. We met... once."

Monty said nothing and slipped past Marijus to open the door. "Then let's go inside and have a look." It was hard walking into that room, even harder when the curtain to the patient's bed revealed what he had hoped was not the case. Cybil was resting in the bed her mother sitting idly by keeping close vigil. Monty had made to introduce him but Marijus stopped him shaking his head. Sighing, the doctor understood and simply turned on his heels heading back out the door. The soft click of the door alerted the mother to Marijus' presence. She could only release pent up tears at the sight of the man who'd be so kind to his daughter the day of the festival.

"Nae am truly sorry for this ma'am." Marijus said, he couldn't think of anything to comfort her and wondered what he could possibly do for the mother outside of finding a proper diagnosis.

"Do not be. All I ask is that you do what you can to save her. She's all I have left in this world."

"I understand." He breathed stepping up to the bed. He smiled down upon Cybil. She looked to be sleeping peacefully and he really hoped that this illness was not incurable. Leaning over the bed he reached down to grace the back of his knuckle against her cheek whispering lightly. "Cybil, nae need yae to wake up for mae." He waited patiently, knowing it was hard when sedated like she was but after a while her eyes began to flutter and they opened trying to focus on one thing.

When they finally did she broke into a huge smile that was contagious enough for Marijus to join her. "It's you!" She squealed despite the sedative. Marijus chuckled giving her the usual knuckle to face interaction. "Are you gonna be my new doctor?"

Well that answered one question for him. She knew where she was and why. "Nae only an assistant to yar current doctor but nae will be here if yae need me." This brought a smile to the girl. Of which Marijus got down to business, "Nae need yae to sit up for mae, please. Want to check yae vitals." Cybil smiled and did as told her movements sluggish as she tried pushing off, after a few tries Marijus helped her up and steadied her. She was clearly in failing conditions. Upon sitting up he noticed Mr. Happy had fallin out from under the sheets. "Ah.. Mr. Happy is with yae?"

"She insisted he come." The mother spoke from her place off to the side. Marijus chuckled, handing the doll to the woman.

"Aye. Unfortunately, we cannae have toys in here while yae are sick." Cybil pouted. "It's so when yae get better yae won't fill it with all kinds of germs. We don't want yae comin' back right?"

"But it so lonely here when mama leaves. Mr. Happy makes me feel good." She pouted as she looked to the doll. Marijus could understand but it was policy and he didn't want to compromise her getting better by having the toy bring more unwanted germs and viruses in the hospital.

"Tell yae what? Let mae hold on to Mr. Happy for yae 'til yae get better. Than nae have an excuse to visit you often." He winked as he waited for the girl's answer. Though he turned to the mother slightly looking over his shoulder to make certain she was okay with his taking the doll should the girl accept. The mother giggled but showed no sign of disapproval. He smiled back.

Meanwhile, Cybil was thinking it over, quite torn. The expression on her face was priceless. Marijus couldn't help leaning down to give her a soft kiss on the forehead. "What's de hold up?"

"No fair you can't do that! We aren't married yet!" She wailed.

"Correct. Once nae cure you of this silly illness then yae get big and strong, fill out a bit more and den yae can come see mae. Nae will be waitin'." He teased as he jotted some notes down on her files. "Well?" he pushed waiting for an answer.

"Fine! But if he's not returned in the same condition you got him. Then you have to buy me some ice cream!"

"Deal. And on that note nae going to have a talk with the doctor bout yar condition. Nae will take Mr. Happy with me." He gave the girl a wink and a smile scooping the beat up old doll from her mother before making his leave.

That was a week ago, even after giving a diagnosis, Cybil was far to young to fight such an aggressive virus. It attacked her lungs, brain and finally her heart all. Marijus had done everything in his power to find a cure or at the very least an antibiotic that would slow the process long enough to come up with something more productive. Too many surgeries for such a little body to handle.

All of his efforts were in vain. Cybil was a casualty of a long fought war between human kind and sickness.

The loss had been harder then he had expected. Without knowing the girl for more than that week and a day prior at the festival it just didn't' seem right. To have such life slip away without a warning. That night Marijus had found his way to Cybil's home, wanting to return the doll to her mother. He didn't know why but maybe it was special for the mother to have something of her daughter. As he knocked on the door he wondered just how much blame she would put on him. He was used to it but figured this time it would actually hurt.

When the door opened to show a shell of a woman that once smiled he almost felt guilty for being there. "Nae.. just wanted to return Cybil's doll to yae." He held the beat up old toy to the woman. She eyed it with a vacant stare before slapping it away. It rolled and bounced landing in a puddle of mud before the door was promptly slammed in his face. No accusations, no hateful words, just emptiness. Marijus turned in a hurry to retrieve the doll trying desperately to rid it of mud. That was another failed attempted. With a deep sigh he headed for home. There was no point dragging the day out.

Once home he did what little he could to clean and mend the doll before placing it on his mantle next to the bottle that was also there. "Nae failed." He breathed to the bottle. "How can nae call mae self a doctor if nae can't even save a little girl?" With those last words he didn't bother waiting for an answer that wouldn't come. Instead he went to his room though sleep would not come this night; he would spend the majority of it drinking his aggravations and sorrows away.

The search had to come to an end. After running all throughout the ward no bottle or toy had come up. No one had seen it upon questioning them and no one remembered anything about a bottle save for the standard used. Marijus ran his fingers through is hair sighing deeply as he tried to think of any place the items could be. Nothing came to mind and it only frustrated him more. Once again, his trusty flask found purchase in his hand as he guzzled down a hefty amount.

Becca had departed long ago in the search finding it rather ridiculous. She was glad for the missing bottle, one less distraction for the good doctor. The nurse was called away after ten minutes into the search; leaving Marijus to do most of the work. Stuffing hands in his pocket he made his way back toward the lab. It was best to get some work done, who knew maybe the bottle....

Just as Marijus was about to give up on the bottle and toy, said toy was dancing seemingly by itself in the window of a door. The door led to the patients sector of the medical ward. And as interesting as it all seemed, Marijus did not believe that toys could suddenly get up and walk. "Right." He breathed, making his strides long and fast as he hurried to the door. The sound of little feet could be heard scurrying away as he burst through the door. As he entered a flash of something yellow caught his attention as it entered one of the patient's rooms. Eyes squinted as he continued down the hall.

"This is the patients sector. Unauthorized personnel should not be here." His voice was authoritative and strong, leaving no room for fault. "Nae will only say tis once. Yae need to reveal yar self or there will be consequences."

However, no one revealed themselves except for a magenta colored stripeless tiger with top hat and vest. And with it a dark skinned hands which maneuvered the toy to simulate movement. "You shouldn't be so loud. The patients are trying to sleep Mr. Doctor." The voice was easily childish, soft but mischievous just the same. While it looked like the toy was talking, Marijus knew better.

Sighing he placed on hand on his hip the other combing through his hair. A kid? Anything but that! "Look kid, yae really should'ne be here. Lets get yae back to yar folks before yae get hurt." He tried speaking calmly but wasn't sure he knew how anymore. After losing Cybil so abruptly he didn't want to be associated with children any time soon. So why now?

"Kid? There's no kid here." The toy spoke as its head moved left and right. "I am Mr. Happy, don't you remember me Mr. Doctor?"

Sighing again Marijus stepped closer. "Look! Nae know tis a kid playing wit that doll. Nae don't know where yae got it but it's mine and nae would like it back."

"Nooo!" The voice shrieked higher this time, the toy disappearing behind the door as a flash of yellow could be seen scuttling some place deeper in the empty room.

"Hey! Nae won't hurt yae but seriously nae want the doll back, please."

"It's mine! You can't have Mr. Happy!"

"How'd yae know it's name?" That was strange. Cybil had given the doll its name, so how'd this kid know?

"None of your business." He spoke and the sound of movement quickly followed. A curtain shifted at the sound of feet, then the streak of yellow caught Marijus' eye as he quickly headed for the door. Pushing it closed, he smirked at the sound of a thud. The kid must have ran into it.

"THAT HURT YOU MEANIE!" Bingo. He'd ran smack into it.

Marijus was quick getting to the door to lift the kid by his arm as he looked him over. It was fairly dim in the room so he flipped on the lights only to find a strange kid indeed. His skin was quite dark but that wasn't the odd thing, it looked... "What happened to yae? Who did tis?"

He looked up glaring. "You did, remember? You closed the door on me and I hit my nose."

"Not that, stupid brat! Nae mean the bruises, yar face, what happened?" Marijus was thoroughly concerned now, never mind the kids bratty ways that could be dealt with later. If he had parents with a domestic issue then it was his duty as a doctor to see that the kid didn't get hurt again. "Yae got a name, kid?"

"No." He pouted looking away.

"Parents?"

"NO!" He said again, chewing his bottom lip.

"Then what yae doing in the medical ward?" He had to know, the kid was orphaned after all... but for some reason he couldn't shake the feeling that he knew the kid. And his possession of Cybil's toy, it was all too coincidental. Leaning closer, Marijus took a short sniff of the boy and almost fell over at the familiar odor. This was the bottle... er... the... well either way. This kid had something to do with that bottle.

Looking up at the man, the boy was close to tears. He didn't like being man-handled and the doctor guy was scary. He asked too many questions, all of which he didn't have any answers. Holding Mr. Happy closer to him he began to cry, falling to his knees as he did. "I want to go home now, Dr. Daddy. Can we go home?"

"Huh?" Marijus blinked noting the kid's sudden change and the designation given to him. "Dr. Daddy... home?"

"I want to go home, daddy!"

Marijus hadn't realized it until he wrapped the boy in his arms that he was suddenly accepting his position as this kids parental figure. Maybe not biological but it was close enough, he had been caring for him as a bottle. Without a doubt he realized the bottle had transformed into this kid. How? Was left for another analysis, for now he scooped the boy in his arms. "Fine, we'll go home. But if you s**t on the carpet nae kickin' yae out."

The boy looked up with a smile. "What's s**t?"

"Don't say dat, its not good for a kid to say."

"s**t! s**t! s**t! s**t!!!!"

"Shut up!"

"s**t!"

[ ... got a name, kid? ... ]

"s**t!" The first word to great the day had came flying out of the little boy's mouth as he made a running dive into the bad of his guardian. He noted instantly his new daddy was not fond of mornings. "Wake up! s**t!"

Marijus grumbled. If every morning were going to be spent like this then he much preferred having the putrid bottle as an alternative. Rolling over on his side he opened one jade eye to peek at the strange yellow green orbs that were brightly glowing upon him. "What'd nae say 'bout that word? It's not good for a kid, so stop."

"s**t.. I can't have any fun."

"Damnit it!" Sitting up abruptly he sent the boy flying off the bed onto the floor. Looking down at him he rolled his eyes as the boy began giggling hysterically.

"That was fun! I wanna do it again!"

"No."

"s**t!"

"Stop that already." Looking at the happy child he couldn't help letting a slight smirk escape him in return. "Let's get yae a bath or something. Yae may have a natural smell but it's bad enough without yae adding to it rollin on the ground like that." Reaching his arms out he waited for the child to stand and come to him. When he did, Marijus picked him up surprised at his light weight. "By the way, yae got a name, kid?"

"Nope. I told you that yesterday." He giggled slapping Marijus in the head with his toy. "Mr. Happy wants a bath too."

"Yeah he'll get one alright... yae keep slappin' me with'em it won't be the kind involving liquid." Giving the child a side long glance he realized instantly he couldn't stay mad at the boy. He was too... energetic and goofy to be upset over. They entered the bathroom where he set the boy down. "Alright, first yae take yar cloths off so dey don't get wet."

Looking up at his new father, the boy listened intently then looked at his cloths. "But it's cold." He informed suddenly.

"Until you get in the water. C'mere." Turning on the faucet he let the water run for a bit before it got warmer. "Feel, tis warm." And he did smiling. "See warm, now let's get yar cloths off." This required a little more finess as the child figeted around every time an article of clothing was peeled from his skin.

"It tickles."

"Nae be done in a second. Just sit still." Marijus chuckled lightly watching the child as he pulled each article of cloth from his strange skin. Finally the child was standing naked before him and he was able to study him closely. "So many scars.. and yar skin..." He went to touch him but was left with thin air as a speedy child ran at top speed from the bathroom, his giggles the only notion he were even there. "What the hell.. hey!!! Damnit you little zombified kid, get back here. You need a bath!"

Giggles were all that met Marijus' reply as the child continued his sprint about the small apartment. "Why do I have to clean up, I'll just get dirty again anyway." His sense of logic being how hyper active he was.

"It doesn't matter, yae need to get cleaned now! Hey... quit runnin' round like that. Come on, kid."

"Nuh huh.. until you give me a name I'm not going to take a bath." He ran to Marijus room next jumping on the bed with toy in hand as he began bouncing around.

"Eww.. that is just not cute. Don't know one wanna see yar thing flappin bout like dat.. c'mere!" He went to retrieve the boy but he was quite fast as he hopped off the bed and onto the floor taking off at top speeds.

"I told you! Give me a name!"

"A name..uh... " Heading out to the living room he couldn't find the child as he'd run off to hide some place. "Hmm.. what yae want to be called?" No answer. "Hey! Kid? I'm talkin' to yae. Give mae an idea or somet'ing." Still no answer. Sighing, thus began the great game of hide-n-seek as Marijus for the second time in meeting the child he had to go in search of him. Thankfully a knock at the door diverted his attention until he answered it. And who should he find but Becca glaring madly.

As usually she let herself in pushing past Marijus to head for the living room. "Got a reason for leaving without telling me, yesterday? I do need to know where my subordinates are, in case of emergencies, you know like the one we had yesterday while you were here."

Rolling his eyes, the good doctor followed Becca into the living room and sighed. "Nae don't got time for dis right now, Becca. Kinda in the middle o' somet'ing right now."

"Oh and what is so important?"

"Don't worry bout it, just see yar self out de door if yae will." His attention was obviously on something else as he began looking around again. Where was that blasted kid? Without his cloths on he couldn't expect to see a streak of yellow whiz by but he figured the kid was hiding by now. As he left the living room area and headed for the other rooms he vaguely heard the sound of giggling. Following it to the extra room he glared, so he was in the closet. Of course, most kids liked to hide in the closet. Walking slowly toward it he opened the door to find the child trying to scurry out but was caught quickly. "No yae don't. I got yae now..." He informed but was met with a child who went limp instantly.

It just so happened, Becca had entered the room. The scene before her was for the most part... unexpected. "Great, now you're stealing cadaver's from the morgue?"

"Becca this isn't what yae think. Dis kid.. he's dat bottle nae be tottin' round before." Marijus tried to explain but Becca wasn't hearing it.

"Right. And next you'll be telling me that we live in a fake reality created by a community of people on message board forums." She snorted heading for the door. "You really should take that corpse back to the morgue before they find it missing. And if you need a cadaver so damn bad... check it out at the clinic, idiot." With that the door slammed and instantly the child popped back to life giggling hysterically.

"She thought I was a cadaver..." he giggled. "What's a cadaver?"

Marijus glared at the child as he carried him to the bathroom. "Apparently yae are."

"Me?"

"Yes... yar a cadaver."

"I'm Cadaver?"

"No. That's not yar name, its what yae look like."

"But I like that name." He pouted looking up at the man. "I want to be called Cadaver!"

Sighing Marijus just looked at the pitiful pouting face. "Fine. Whatever, but don't come cryin' to me when other kids start makin' front of yae." Though for some reason he felt Cadaver probably wouldn't care. He didn't seem at all self-conscious about his disheveled form. With strange welts, scars and bruise and areas that looked as if his skin were rotted or close to falling off. It was a wonder the kid had any conscious at all. "C'mon, Cadaver... time to take a bath."

And with a running leap, Cada jumped into the bath not sparing his father any warnings. Of course, Marijus didn't warn Cada about how hot the water would be upon first contact either... So it was only fair. "s**t!" Payback hurt.

  • Mr. Happy personality becomes more prominent in Cada.

Dear Journal,

Today I went out to play but got pushed around by some bullies. They always bother me for no reason. Usually they get bored and leave me alone if I don't say anything to them but today that didn't happen. Mr. Happy didn't like being pushed around so he got them real good. I'm not sure what happened but they looked really ill before running home. I had to put Mr. Happy on time out cause he shouldn't do that to people no matter how mad they make him. It's dangerous what Mr. Happy can do, I was really scared so I hurried home and that's why I am writing this. Maybe Mr. Happy learned his lesson and will be careful not to use his powers in such away again. I'll have to talk to him about that later he's still in the corner on time out.

Today was a normal day like many others before it. Marijus had gone off to work leaving a curious child at home alone. Though it seemed he was alone, Marijus had given the landlord a heads up on his new charge. The two talked about adjustments in pay as far as Cada's damage control but other than that, Monty wasn't too hard on Marijus for the new addition. He had come to like the child quite a bit. As energetic as he was, he kept the good doctor on his feet at all hours, and he had stopped drinking less to keep a clear head. Though he still had his usual drink during the mid-night hours when Cadaver had worn himself into a deep sleep.

It was on this particular day, Cadaver had left his home rushing down the stairs in a rumble of feet. He hit the bar at a run and jumped on the bar top looking for his 'uncle'. "Monty! Monty! Can I go outside?" It was a routine thing. He couldn't leave the building without Monty or his daddy's permission. With Marijus at work it left Monty with the task. Said person was busy cleaning some dishes. He heard the flurry on the stairs long before Cadaver had made his appearance. "Did your papa say you could?" He asked though already knowing the answer to that.

"I had to clean my room and take a bath." Cada informed as he began gripping Mr. Happy tightly. "I did both." He squealed jumping to his knees on the bar top. This got a frown from Monty who prided himself in having a clean establishment. That meant no rowdy children would be found jumping about on his bar top. He cleared his throat before saying anything. This got Cadaver's attention who quickly removed himself from the bar to sit on a stool. "Sowwy." He apologized still awaiting an answer.

After setting himself straight, Monty nodded. "Fine. I have no problem with you going out. So long as you abide by your father's rules. And he specifically warned against going near Whi Forrest, so stay away from there." Monty said sternly as he eyed the active child. Cada nodded and waited for the final go ahead. Month chuckled shooing him with a wave of his hand. As soon as he did, Cada was out the door in a flurry of dust. "Man where does he get his energy?" Monty questioned as the door closed behind him, a customer entering shortly after with a rather ruffled expression on his face. No doubt running into hurricane Cadaver on his way in...

Meanwhile, said child was at a full run down the cobble stone street. Waving politely to the neighbors who knew him and even those that did not. His objective for the day was to explore to his hearts content. This exploration dealt with many different establishments he had yet to visit. Of them was the local library. Marijus had told him about a place that had all kinds of books; and within these books many adventures could be found. Though, Cadaver would first have to learn how to read. He knew how to pick up on things from hearing others say it but he didn't know the first thing about reading. As he stopped at the library he looked up at the building, his smile fading slightly. It was either now or never. He took one small step after another until he was at the entrance. A few people pushed past to enter but still the child did not go in. He stood there chewing on Mr. Happy's ear as he watched more people enter and some exit. They had books in their hands, some looked small and others were quite big. It was a bit intimidating standing there, what would he do once inside...?

"Excuse me..." Cada looked up to find an older woman smiling upon him. Biting even more on Mr. Happy's ear he stepped back pressing himself against the cool stone of the building. "Oh don't be frightened. I just happened to see you standing here.. is this your first time at the library?" The woman questioned. Cada responded with a slight nod his comfort zone suddenly stripped from him. The woman smiled warmly reaching out a hand. "Come with me. I'll show you around." At first Cada thought to simply run away but the woman was being nice and she only wanted to help. A small dark hand found purchase in a delicate pale hand as he followed the lady inside.

At a first glance the place was small but as they entered past the checkout desk the books came into view one after another. Soon a room full of books as far as the eyes could see filled Cada's vision. "So many..." he breathed. The woman smiled kneeling to his level. "What kind of books do you like?" She asked. Cada looked around again but turned to the lady with a frown on his face. He chewed on Mr. Happy's ear once more looking away. "I don't know." The woman cocked her head to the side then looked up and then back at Cadaver. "I see. You don't know how to read yet do you?" He quickly looked away again a frown mixed with a pout on his face. "It's not like I can't learn or anything." He was growing defensive taking her statement differently then expected. The woman smiled again patting his head. "Oh don't take it out of context. I wasn't teasing you. It's just that I have a lessons here every Monday and Friday. If you'd like to join it would help you learn to read, and you can get a library card too."

"A card?" Cada perked up looking back at the lady. "Yes you'll need one to check out books but you'll also need a guardian to sign the papers. Would you like to join my lessons?" Cadaver smiled brightly holding Mr. Happy up for the woman to see. "Yes! Cadaver would like that very much, miss." Mr. Happy taking over in conversation now. The woman smiled and shook Mr. Happy's hand before patting Cada on his head. "What an odd name but it some how fits you. Well then, Cadaver, I hope to see you in my classes from now on. My name is Miss Paprika."

And with a bit more talk between the two, Cadaver found himself rushing out of the library for home. Eager was he to tell Marijus about his day's events. Although, as he made his way home, he took a short cut that led near Whi Forrest, the place which he was forbidden to venture. He turned yellow-green eyes upon the thick canopy of trees, wondering why the place was off limits. Sighing to himself, he hugged Mr. Happy tightly against him as he continued his journey home. As he continued his walk he caught sight of a strange creature flitting about in the thicket of trees. It would have benefited him more if he had just kept on walking, but as curious a child as he, the idea never once crossed his mind. Stepping off the road he was on he followed the strange creature further into the forest. It grew darker with each step and being one who was terrified of the dark, Cadaver stopped short of following the creature any more. Instead he talked to it, in hopes of luring it to him. "Hey! Come out of there... it's dangerous!" While he wasn't listening to his own warnings maybe the creature would.

The creature, however, was flitting about unmindful of the dangers the forest possessed. Instead it flew into a tree above the child looking down on it. Cadaver managed to catch sight of it again and smiled. "Hey! Come down here." It didn't listen only shifting its head to the side. Wings as arms it flew from one tree branch to the other, as if stalking prey. And who should that prey be but Cada himself. "What's it doing?" He questioned himself as the creature jumped from the tree at full speed. "Oh no its falling..." Quite the contrary, it was diving and as Cadaver reached his arms out to catch the creature, it opened its mouth to clamp firmly on the child's small arm. A few moments passed as Cadaver eyed the strange thing gnawing on his arm. The pain took over after that as he let out a shriek that could have possibly been heard in town. Proceeding to beat the thing in the head with Mr. Happy, he ran about the small clearing smacking the creature against trees along the way. "Legolegolegolegolego... Lego!!!" He cried beating it once more with the stuffed toy. "s**t!!!" After slamming the thing against yet another tree it finally let go falling to the grow with a haggled cry of its own. Cada was still running until he noticed the creature was no longer clamped to his arm.

Stopping in his tracks he looked behind him to find the strange thing flapping its wings and rolling on the ground. It made a strange cry mixed with bird and human tones. A lover of all things, Cadaver couldn't turn his back on the creature so ventured to take a look, although cautiously. "Are you okay?" He asked, looking at his own arm as it was bleeding in the new wound. He'd have to explain this to Marijus later, as worrisome as the man was. Looking at the creature, he sat down next to it. "Let me help." The creature squawked scooting away suddenly scared but Cada didn't move as he wrapped his arms around it. "I'm sowwy... it just hurt when you bit me like that." He explained. The creature squawked again but seemed to settle down. "Were you hungry? Is that why you attacked me?" He asked. Again another squawk. Sitting back, Cada dug into his pockets to see if he had anything edible. And indeed some candy could be found in his pockets as he opened the wrappers handed them to the creature. "Here eat these, its not much but maybe it will help." Eyeing the boy then the treats the creature leaned forward to lick the candies into its mouth, emitting a giggle from the child. With what appeared to be a happy squawk Cada produced some more candies and smiled as he began to pet the thing. "See... if you're hungry just ask. You shouldn't attack people like that." Of course the creature snorted, knowing it couldn't talk though it did understand the child.

Cadaver smiled standing to his feet as he dusted himself off. "I have to get back home. But maybe I could bring you something later." The creature squawked in response to the child wanting more candies. "Oh. Sowwy, I don't have anymore. But I'll get some for you tomorrow." And with that he hurried to exit the are before he was caught. The creature simply followed. Cadaver turned to glare at the thing. "You can't come with me." The creature snorted. "I said you can't!" Another snort. "Stop following me!" A swing of Mr. Happy to the creatures head got a sharp snap from the creature. "Hey! Don't bite at me..." The bickering continued on like this until Cadaver managed to trick the creature into chasing some imaginary candies back into the forrest. He hurried home at top speeds knowing he'd be in deep trouble if he brought something like that home.

Later that night Marijus had returned home and was ready to settle in for the evening. Cada had finished with dinner and his bath and was now ready for bed. Tucking the boy in he kept a lamp on the bed post next to the child to sooth his fear of the dark. "How was yar day?" Marijus asked, as he stepped into the room leaning against the door frame. "I had fun. There was a lady at the library who said she'd teach me how to read. Uh.. oh yeah, Miss Paprika. She said you had to sign some papers so I can get my library card." Marijus nodded a slight smile to his lips. "Nae tink nae can do that. Any'ting else happen today?" He pushed still a rather laid back air about him. Cada thought a moment but nothing came up as he kept his adventures near Whi Forrest a secret. "No, nothing else other than that."

Marijus nodded pushing off the door frame. "Hmm.. that's odd." Marijus stated simply as he began to tuck Cada in bed. Curious as always, the boy ventured to ask. "Why?" Marijus simply shrugged. "Well tis not every day yae come home to find a strange creature standin' outside yae window." And with the mention of that, Cadaver jumped up to look out his window. Marijus watched him closely but moved away from his bed to head into the main room. "Not that window Cadaver, dis one." He informed opening the curtains of the living room to reveal the creature squawking irritably at the child who entered the room just then. Cada looked to the creature then guardian and ran back to his room locking the door. "I told it not to follow me. I'm sowwy!"

"Yae will be come morning if yae don't get rid of it..." Marijus yelled as he closed the curtains on the creature. "Nae going to bed. That 'ting better be gone by mornin' or yae gonna find yar self homeless, boy!"

[ ... daddy's little secret ... ]

[Warning: Has some sensitive content]

Cadaver awoke with a start at the thump which he had thought he heard. Looking to his night stand he noted the time was 2 o'clock in the morning, quite early for anyone to be sneaking about. Trying to adjust his sleepy eyes upon the dimly lit room he rubbed them vigorously as yet another thump followed by a giggle and a growl brought his curious ears to attention. Perking up he sat straight in his bed reaching for Mr. Happy as he hugged the animal to him protectively. What was that noise; he wondered as he stood to his feet heading for his door. Again the thump and another giggle brought Cada to full wakefulness; a slight apprehension washing over him over the unknown noises.

It was then he heard the giggle which was vaguely sounding of a girl and then the deep rumble of his daddy's voice filled the air. It was muffled, however, keeping his ears from filling with the latest gossip. This would not do, Cada thought as he slowly moved to his door. He grasped hold of the handle turning the nob ever so slightly least he be heard. As he opened the door to peek out into the living room he was half thankful that his daddy was not there. It appeared the noises were coming from his room and that gave him cause to venture out into the hall. The spill of dim lighting filled the hall and half to living room, warding off any apprehensions about the dark Cada still suffered. He tip-toed from his room to the next over, his daddy's and placed his ear against the door to listen in on what was going on. At first he heard nothing but then another thump and the giggle from the woman. His daddy spoke up then; again unable to hear due to the low tone. Frustration crawled to Cada's face, he wanted to know what his daddy was doing? Why was he up so late and who was the giggling woman in his room?

Again he heard his daddy's voice but this time the words spilled out to him coherently. Suffice it to say that what spilled from Marijus' mouth was not for a child to hear. So much so that Cada gasped at the vulgarity and fumed to hear his daddy speak so brashly, yet throw a fit at him for repeating such things. He of course was pouting... Even so his ears perked up again when he heard what sounded like gasps of breath. The woman seemed out of breath, she had begun with soft pants until soon she was moaning and pleading. What she was pleading for was anyone's guess as Cada surely did not know. The strained growls from his parental figure somewhat intrigued and frightened the child as he held Mr. Happy in a vice grip. This was more juicy gossip to share with Krinn when next they met. Though he'd be careful that Marijus was not in earshot this time. Again his father growled something he couldn't understand and the woman screamed. This brought all alarms to the fore as Cada jumped back eying the door.

Instantly, his mind began to form ideas. Of those ideas he imagined his father was some magical beast who preyed on innocent women at night (this was not far from the truth), another idea was the woman being attacked for doing something his daddy did not like. That he could understand but he didn't like the screaming from the woman that fluttered to his ears the next moment. She began pleading again and soon Cada could not hold back. Bursting into the room, Mr. Happy was tossed into the air, chucked at the target Cada had in mind: his daddy. He stood in the door way framed by the dim light coming from his own room as he heaved with uncertain rage at his father. "Don't hurt her, daddy!" He cried looking through the room. Thankfully it was dark, and as the woman shrieked then scuttled to cover herself she glared with shame at Marijus. The man sighed inwardly rubbing the bridge of his nose as he stood before both in his naked glory. By the gods this kid was a pain in his rear as he gave the woman an apologetic glance. His attention then turned to Cada would was struck with an odd sense of misplacement... had he done something wrong? Plucking Mr. Happy from the floor Marijus chucked the doll toward Cada who caught it subconsciously his mind still reeling from the display before him. "Honestly, lad. Yae have sore timin' yae do." Marijus breathed as he slipped into his boxers and quickly escorted the tyke back to his room.

Putting him to bed would definitely be harder then usual as the dustchild began with his tyrant of questions.
"What were you doing, daddy?" First question of the night. Marijus laughed knowing damn well that wasn't going to fly. No way was he going to tell the kid so early in his years. "Another time, baby." He cooed realizing he really did care for the brat. Ruffling his hair he gently pushed him back kissin' his forehead. "Yae need some sleep. Nae promise when yae ready, nae will tell ya all about it." Well not ALL but a good portion of what had transpired between himself and the woman. Cada was not satisfied with this and asked yet another question. "Why are you naked?" Again a chuckle left Marijus as he shook his head. "Like nae said, another time." One thing he noticed about Cadaver right off was his inability to feel shame. He didn't turn away when discovering both adults naked, more surprised that they were but still his eyes remained focused as he tried to divulge the scoop of the day. There was a man in the little boy yet, Marijus was sure to get it out of him but he was still young and not yet ready to understand the sensual lifestyle of adults. "Go to bed, Cadaver." he spoke, using the boys full name. It often meant no room for argument and Cada was always aware of this fact. Sighing he looked up to his daddy pouting. It wouldn't work this time as Marijus patted his head. "Nae mean it. Sleep." He commanded and soon stood to his feet. "Goodnight, lad." He spoke on his way out hurrying to close the door behind him.

Sighing to himself Marijus was certain the boy would spill this gossip to any ear willing to listen. And seeing as how he only knew Krinn for the time being, he'd probably go running to him the first chance he got. "Nae will have to talk with Lan about dis." he muttered. The touch of soft hands on his bare back brought him to reality as he remembered he'd had company. "Lass? Yae not upset 'bout dis are yae?" The woman chuckled kissing his back as she purred. "I am rather intrigued in fact. Might we continue where we left off?" She questioned. Marijus chuckled taking the woman by the hand and leading the way. Suffice it to say the night went off well, though a certain curious boy had found an ideal place to spy on his father as he ducked into his closet to listen in on the activities taking place next door. And so, it would continue like this for many nights to come as Cada was not the type to sit still when his curiosity was thoroughly peeked.
