Lohl stood stiffly among his new comrades, his slender maw tipped up in defiance. His usually calm brown eyes surveyed the lineup of Sentinels with unmasked distaste. Of course they would bring up defense for the clans. Any form of rebellion was always dealt with quickly. No surprise than a formidable grouping would pose as more of a slight threat to the smothering peace they forced on the clan Fafners. Then he heard Cerberus's order. Retreat? Retreat. The words rang hollow in his ears.

This wasn't right. They should stand up and fight the Sentinals, fight for what they had eradicated themselves for. Although his will to fight was fueled by anger, a small part of him understood. Today was not their day, not their fight. With a final survey of the approaching Sentinels, Lohl turned away, following his leader into the depths of the forest, the shadows enveloping his pelt completely within minutes.

Hedgie watches carefully as the seninels approach. She knew, like everyone else, they had one purpose. To stop them. She just watches her new leader with quiet and careful eyes. She feels a little surer at her quest with his words. She simply gets ready to lay her life on the line when he orders retreat. She was shocked by this order but quickly gets her feet under herself and races up the nearest tree to follow him.

She isn't used to this. Most leaders don't plan to go anywhere, just go out in a blaze of glory. This, sense, is a little shock but soon she feels pride for being on this side of the fight. A small smile lights up her face as little flashes of purple are the only markers of her path.

...That was quick. Syrith stared at the Sentinels. She recognised a few of them, even knew some by name, although most, she suspected, were from Loki. When Cerberus gestured for them to follow him in flight, she thought he had the right idea, and quickly set off after him.

Although they'd be travelling most of the day, from Brynhild to Attila to Hreidmar, she wasn't tired. Syrith was a hunter, used to exercise, and she soon drew level with the fafners directly behind their leader. She wondered if he'd thought about this outcome, if he'd planned for it. She wondered where they were going. Glancing to either side, the bright-marked hunter debated speaking to her companions, but decided against it. Unnecessary noise would only give away their position to anyone following them.

Cerberus risked a quick glance back to check on the progress of the others, noting that only five remained. The others must have decided that facing against the Sentinels was not worth the risk, or they'd been captured. Either way, it was too late now to turn back and help their comrades. He could see the gleam of eyes as the Sentinels closed in on them.

Quickening his pace, Cerberus darted through the thickets of trees and fallen logs, keeping his eyes forward but his ears back. He knew that some of the Rebels probably wanted to stand and fight, but that would've been the worst choice given the circumstances. And it was a chance for him to see which of his followers were truly ready to leave behind their life.

As the voices of the Sentinels faded, Cerberus stopped and turned around, waiting for the others to catch up. Once they were near him, he quickly gave them orders, "If we split up, the Sentinels will have a more difficult time following us since we won't be in a large group. Reno and Lohl will take the northwest route, while Sheherezade, Hedgie and Syrith will go northeast. Stryder and I will continue straight north, and we'll all meet on the other side of the river. The Sentinels will not pass the clan's border."

Hearing the voices of the Sentinels closing in again, Cerberus gave the others a firm look. "Go!" he commanded before disappearing into the brushes with Stryder behind him.

As everyone slowed to a stop, Reno kept his eyes firmly on Cerberus, waiting to take more orders. He could still hear the Sentinels, and although the sounds of their voices were distant now, they were fast approaching. Reno assumed a ready position, his eyes darting over to the only other male that was left in their group. Five of them in all... it wasn't nearly enough to build up a strong group, was it? And not everyone would be able to make it through this journey safely, wherever they were going. But Reno was determined to stay by Cerberus through it all, and nodded curtly to his newly assigned 'partner'. He trotted quickly over to him, motioning in the direction of the river but slightly west of the path their leader had taken.

"Shall we go, then?" Reno asked him, looking slightly nervous as he heard the footsteps of the foremost Sentinels crunching through the nearby thicket.

Sheherezade was only slightly fatigued by the escape, her breath soon slowing. That little run was invigorating, if nothing else. The female briefly wondered if they were still in a good deal of danger, but soon decided that such thoughts were irrelevant - instead, she turned her attention to Cerberus' orders. Heh, orders. Such an odd term for her. Nevertheless, the Healer nodded as soon as the instructions were given and looked to her two new...uh...comrades? She quickly put names to faces, smiling at them with all the kindness that almost came with the title of Healer. 'Zade knew these two could possibly be with her for a little while, soo..make the best of it, right?

"Shall we depart, friends?" she asked Hedgie and Syrith, waiting for a response with a good deal of patience.

Syrith hadn't paid much attention to introductions, and she was thankful for the fact that Cerberus glanced at each of them as he said their names. So Lohl was the attractive male she'd noticed earlier? She'd have to remember him...

Looking round at her assigned companions, Syrith noted that their leader had split them into males and females. She wondered if that was deliberate - not that it made any difference. "I'm Syrith," she affirmed with a nod at the other two. Sheherezade, she knew, was a healer, and she wondered how the pink fafner would hold up to this flight through the forest. As for Hedgie... so far, Syrith knew nothing about her. That would change soon enough.

"Let's go, then," she said in response to Sheherezade. "It's dangerous to wait around here."

Hedgie had been keeping up with Cerberus but stopped and doubled back when she finally noticed he stopped. When she snuck back in through the bushes everyone else was there. She takes his orders and is already moving when she hears he new comrades address her. Hedgie slows to mutter," Right" before quickly skittering up a nearby tree to disappear in the trees. She waits for the others to keep up before moving on. She wasn't social but was good at taking orders she can do.

Sheherezade blinked rather....puzzled at Hedgie's sudden dis- and re-appearance. Sadly, she didn't have time to argue with it. That could make sticking together rather difficult, but it seemed as if Hedgie was quick enough and listened for them, so she wasn't very concerned. Not like she'd do much if she was - 'Zade was too kind sometimes. It'd take a lot to get her to really put her foot down about something.

"I agree. Let us move," she responded, moving to catch up with Hedgie and get a better lead on their pursuers.

With a last glance back at their fellow rebels, Syrith slipped away and into the trees, following close behind Hedgie and Sheherezade. THe evening gloom covered all three of them easily, despite their bright markings. They certainly weren't the most discreet group, she thought wrly, thinking of their pink and purple colouring. Still, that was no matter. Hedgie clearly knew what she was doing - she had completely disappeared for a while back there - and even the healer was more adept at moving quietly through the forest than Syrith had expected.

She kept her hunter's senses alert, pausing every so often to listen for sounds of pursuit. So far, nothing, but that didn't mean the sentinels couldn't have looped round in front of them. She hoped Cerberus was right that they wouldn't cross the river and leave the clan territory. Their best hope was probably to outrun the sentinels, and with that in mind the purple fafner sped up.

((What d'you think, guys? We're allowed to confront two Sentinels - shall we? ^^))

((Sounds cool))
Hedgie watches as everyone keeps up pace but from up in the trees she can see sentinels following. 'They must of seem us' she muses. Looking at their loud markings. 'Plus we are the bigger group' she watches as they start to gain ground a few ahead of the group. She whispers a warning to the others. "They are gaining ground." She says leaping to the ground to run with the others.

Lohl transferred his gaze from the path they had just retreated off back towards Cerberus. He nodded resolutely, trying to ignore the distant approach of the Sentinels. Lohl turned away, glancing to Reno. With a slight dip of his head to his new partner, he swept past into a brush. In a seperate direction, he could hear the soft escape of the other rebels to the northeast. The melted brown and cream Fafner continued on with a slight frown between his brow. Where had the other two rebels gone? He had seen Kid around in Attila at times. He didn't seem liek one to flake out. Perhaps captured? It frightened him, even though he would never let it show. That the Sentinels could slip away with his comrades without alerting anyone to their attack. He heard rumors of course, but nothing like this.

Lohl ducked under a fallen tree, not stopping once to see if Reno followed or not. They needed to get away now. He only hoped that his partner had not been captured as well. Or the others, for that matter. This was their one chance to stand up against the Nobels. They couldn't fail this early on. And if Lohl could help it, they wouldn't fail.

Reno frowned slightly as he sped after Lohl, taking a few moments to catch up to him and keeping at a similar pace. It seemed like his partner didn't seem to be very talkative, but that didn't bother Reno much. What bothered him more was whether they would be able to outrun the band of Sentinels that were close on their tails. If anything, he would be ready to fight them off. But that didn't seem to be part of his leader's plan, at least not for now. He could still hear the enemy behind them, and sped up slightly, although he was careful not to cause himself to grow weary if he had to keep this up running for longer. Ears up, he listened for the sounds of Cerberus, or the party of femmes that had taken the opposite path as the two of them continued to flee.

Sheherezade slowed slightly to match pace with Syrith, not wanting the group to get too spread out as they moved through the brush. She could hear nothing pursuing them, but then again, she was not trained to hear such things. They could be right upon the group, and she would have no idea. Oh, the Healer hoped someone else was better at this than she....

Aha! Apparently someone else was!

"Well...." she began, slightly tensing due to Hedgie's warning. "We have two options. Move faster, or engage. Any suggestions?"

Syrith hesitated for only a moment before making a decision. The uundergrowth in this part of the forest was thick and tangled. Hedgie could move quickly enough, up in the trees, but they couldn't make any decent speed on the ground without giving away their position with the noise they would make.

"I think we should stand our ground," she said, glancing as the others to see their reactions, but didn't stop running. "Unless we're vastly outnumbered. Hedgie, how many did you see? If there's only three or four, I think we can... we can cope. If not, we should just run. But I don't think running will help much," she added grimly. "We'd make too much noise, they'd just follow us."

With a sigh, the purple fafner glanced behind her. Nothing in sight, still. She was surprised that she could be so calm about this. That very morning she'd been a peaceful member of Brynhild clan, and now she was considering fighting her own kind. She supposed she'd have to get used to it.
