Ontaros's hand tightened and his arm became ridged. The nails were certainly enough to dig in some but they weren't really a problem. With another wave of his hand the ground behind his friend cleared and became flat, then a portion of rock lifted up as a miniature plateau, making a sort of stool to be sat on. He gestures to it making sure to make it's presence known.

When the man didn't retaliate to his rather passive aggressive test, he began to relax a little. But then the man waved a hand, changing the landscape around him, and Tryan immediately released his grip to back up a few steps. He leaned heavily on his staff, bent almost like an old man, and looked around him, posed to take off at the slightest indication of danger. He looked at the 'stool' but there wasnt a snow ball's chance in hell he was going near it, and that was as clear to see on his face as anything.

ooc: sorry this is kindo' a short not so fantastic post, I'll edit typos and stuff when i have a chance, but I gotta go. We have a lot of driving ahead of us.

Ontaros summons another stool behind him and has a seat. He also reaches into his robes and pulls out a bottle of water, pulls out the cork with his teeth and has a drink then offers some to frightened individual infront of him. He could tell that he was tired and Ontaros hoped that the water would help some. It seemed that he was not trusted, nor were his conjurations, so he decided before he would expect his new friend to do anything, that he would demonstrate first, as well as keeping the summoning down to a minimum.

Just as soon as he smelled the water, his ears pricked up and his mouth snapped shut. Everything about him was focused on the water, watching with rapt attention as the man drank some and then held it out to him. Hesitantly, he inched forward, watching the bottle and the man's face by turns. He really, really wanted that water, but he was afraid it could be a trap, and agonized over what to do about it. Finally, his thirst won and he shuffled forward to take it. Once safely in his hands, he jumped back with a flap of his wings to propel him back to the bush, where he waited a moment to watch for the man's reaction.

Ontaros continues to give a gentle smile and gestures with one hand as if to say go ahead. It was a bit strange just how scared this being was of him. It was unussual to say the least for someone or something to be this distrusting of him and he hoped that it wouldnt be that way forever. It seemed though that perhaps the water would be a first step towards solving that problem.

The hand movement caused him to forget the water for a moment as he looked around for any new land features or dangers that might have appeared. When he was convinced nothing had happened, he turned his attention back to the water. It was a bit of a challenge drinking from the bottle, but he managed without spilling too much. When it was about half half empty he eyed Ontaros again and sidled closer to return what was left. Unwilling to get close enough to hand it to him, though, he set it down on the ground a short distance in front of the man and hurried away again.

Ontaros shakes his head. He points at the water bottle and then points back at his company and nods. This could be fun. Thinking a moment reaches back into his robes and pulls out something wrapped in cloth. He opens up the little package to reveal a decent hunk of cornbread. He pulls off some and then sets the rest with the cloth next to the bottle and munches slowly on his peice. He starts looking around the area, figuring that staring at him wouldn't exactly make things easier.

The bird, cat, thing didn't move for several moments, but eventually would approach the food. He had finally given up on remaining upright and dropped back down to all fours. It looked unnatural and a little uncomfortable, but he seemed to move easier that way. inching up to the food, he sniffed at it, then took it and the water, holding it close as he jumped back to the bush.
He crouched, ready once more to run away if the situation called for it, but turned his attention to the bread, which he seemed both intrigued by and wary of. Breaking off a small piece, he tasted it. Deciding it was both safe and tasty, he continued in a similar manner, breaking off small pieces and swallowing them whole. It didn't take long for him to be finished, hardly a crumb remaining, and move on to the water, which also disappeared in a matter of moments. This time, when he returned the bottle, he came close enough to hand it over, albeit cautiously.

Ontaros takes the bottle and replaces it in his robe and nods. "Thank you." He looked his friend over and wondered a moment. "Well I dont know what I should call you really... but." He scratches at his chin a little bit while he mulls the question over.

His ears pricked up at Ontaros' words, but then, after a moment of seeming to consider what the man had said, they flipped back again. He started to raise his staff, but then stopped... he doubted he'd be able to escape from someone like this if the man chose to come after him, but if he pretended to be little more than a smart animal, he might be able to buy himself some time to figure out what to do about this situation. That in mind, he relaxed a little, his ears swiveling to the front again.

The mage cranes his neck forward and looks the other over, studying him for a while. All the magic in the world practically at his finger tips and he couldn't figure out a name for this one. He sighs heavily and shortly afterwards his face lights up. "I've got an idea, I'll just ask you!" He laughs a little before he closes his eyes a moment or two. Then without moving his lips his voice is heard mentally by the creature. "What do they call you?" I hoped that there was a name that this being was given, and also hoped he'd respond since thoughts are universal.

The creature sat still, staring right back at him, apparently without concern for being stared at. Hearig a voice in his head had him nearly jumping right out of his fur and feathers, though, and he looked around frantically for the source. It 'sounded' just like the man in front of him, but he hadn't moved. A mess of confused thoughts including several foreign concepts, as well as some not so foreign ideas, would imediately jump to the forefront of his mind and, therefor most likely be apparent to the man. In moments though, a name came to the top as the rest of the unorganized thought died down. "Tryan." If one could stutter or have a tone of defference in thought, he had managed it.

Ontaros blinks a moment a little thrown off by the commotion in Tryan's thoughts and he smiles a moment before his face turns serious again. He's silent a while before he shakes his head slowly. "Not another one..." He frowns and says softly. "This isn't your original form is it...?" He pauses a moment and continues. "I know someone who, it seems, has had similar experiance with magic and science." He looks down for some time before looking back up. "I'm not really sure if you understand me but I'm sorry."

Tryan leaned forward a little, his head turned to to the side slightly. He seemed to be paying very close attention, but was confused, and whined under his breath. He was confused by this man, and didn't know if he should trust him or not. Part of him really wanted to, he had given him water and food afterall, but he was having a hard time of it. Hesitantly, he inched forward some more and tried to focus his thoughts, thinking maybe this person could here him if he tried really hard to push away all the extra noise that constantly seemed to fill his head. He was unable to focus on any one word, but thoughts and images of water in any and every form he might have seen took over as the pre-dominant theme of the mental 'noise.'

Ontaros looks up to Tryan and thinks a second. He returns a question 'Would you like more?' he wasnt really sure if thats what was ment but the worst that could happen would be that he was wrong.
