"Now, now, I don't want you ruining your appetite. I'll give you one more piece, but Mazzia will return with lunch soon enough." Veral told Shera, giving her a tap on the nose, and giving her another small piece of jerky. Veral then turned to Alunn and smiled. "Shielding yourself or another from mental and spiritual things is a very different kind of barrier." He explained to the stranger. "To protect your mind from the prying eyes of mind readers, or to defend ones self from psionic attacks, is in essence and action very similar to an average barrier, accept that you do not project the barrier outward, rather you release the energy you accumulate inside of yourself. It will create a barrier in your mind that is based on your willpower." He told him.
Logain who had also been observing the lessons appeared and chimed in. "Of course, there are also some people who have a natural willpower so strong that their bodies naturally can resist such advances." He added to Veral's lecture.
Veral looked up at the other guest with surprise rather than annoyance as some people would have felt. "True but such is not so common." He explained. "But on the subject of spiritual manifestations, the same barrier can be used to resist those. However even the strongest barriers against that will only act as a screen. To truly resist a spiritual advance requires one to have a pact with spirit making such a move, or with spirits willing to defend against such an advance." He informed them. Though this was mostly for the benefit of Alunn who had been so curious as to come out and ask him, he made sure to explain it in a way that the young ones could do their best to understand it. They would need to know this too.
Shinn looked up at Alunn and Logain, who had been watching their lessons. A smile bloomed on Shinn's snout when he looked at them. "Do you want to join our lessons misters?" Shinn asked curiously.
Azrael ate diligently, filling his belly with the food he needed to continue his day. When Azrael had eaten his fill, he lay on his side, licked his lips, and watched Miluiel groom herself.

"What about physical matter, that isn't physical?" Alunn asked "Like a Shade for example" he said, his shadow rising up to take the form of a rabbit. Friell came in behind Logain and Alunn, still in his elf shape. "Alunn would love to, that way he doesn't have to rely on me all the time" Friell said grinning. Alunn shot him a look "I liked you better when you were Tam's age, Friell"

Shera grinned happily. "Thank you Veral!" She said eating this piece a little more slowly. Shera listened to Veral's words, she nodded in understanding. It seemed simple enough to understand. Shera looked from one visitor to the other wondering if they would join them. Once the one answered she looked at him hopefully.
Miluiel smiled, it was rather humorous how Azrale flopped onto his side. "Did you enjoy?" Miluiel asked and continued to clean herself.

Azrael nodded. "Yes I did. I am quite satisfied for now. Did you have enough?" He asked Milueil before beginning to do a little grooming himself.
Thinking for a moment, Veral smiled. "For thing like a shade, or a similar creature that normally has some eccentricities, so far as physical presence is concerned. For such an act you would need to reverse the barrier. Meaning that instead of projecting to a barrier to prevent something from reaching you, you would make a barrier preventing you from getting to it. A full spherical barrier will completely immobilize it, so I have been told, but my encounters with shades are quite fewce. Any other dealings with shades is an aspect of more advanced defense magic of normal variety, though making a reverse barrier is fairly advanced on its own, or for those who have training in Light magic, and likely some alternative magics." He informed Alunn. "According to some rumors I have heard, it is said that a few jungle shamans have found some way to harness and control shades, even those that are bound to a place or another person, and similarly have defenses against shades."
"What's a Shade?" Shinn asked curiously.
Veral chuckled. "Their called Lurks among the tribe Shinn." He explained.
Shinn, who had heard plenty of scary stories about Lurks from his friends' older siblings, he moved closer to his sister in a protective manner, but only a few inches, to k=make it known that he would be ready to protect her.
Logain, who was greatly amused by the young werewolves' offer to join their lesson, as well as their reaction to the conversation that had been brought up. He decided he would take up their offer, even though he had already known what was being taught for a very long time. Logan sat down by the two little werewolves and smiled reassuringly. "Do not worry little ones. You won't come to harm by them, unless you do something to make them harm you. A little caution is required, but you will be fine." He told them.

"I did thank you." Miluiel said shaking out her long haired mane that framed her wolf face. Standing up she stretched reaching as far forward as she could with her front legs and leaving her rump elevated up in the air till she felt she had stretched long enough. She stood up straight and tall again and trotted over to Azrael where she licked some of the mess off his face and smiled down at him.
"Lurks?" Shera asked softly, "I haven't heard of them." She said sadly. She looked up at Shinn and back at Veral. "What are they?" She asked. She listened to Logain but insisted, "I still don't know what they are! How would I make one angry and want to attack me?" She asked with a slightly irritated tone.

"Lurks are shadow people." Shinn said nervously.
Veral chuckled. "Your brother is... close to correct. Lurks, or Shades as they are called elsewhere, are beings of shadow that don't exist or operate in the way other beings do in this world." He said to Shera. "Lurks tend to stick to certain places, in particular dark places, or very old places such as ruins or caves that were once inhabited in the distant past. The story that your brother has likely been told, is that there are Lurks inhabiting the Old Bog, and anyone who might go into there wouldn't notice anything at first except a strange chill down their spine, but the night after visiting the bog would awake in the middle of the night being dragged away by a Lurk toward the Old Bog, never to be seen again. However, I have visited the bog and I can assure both of you that there are no Shades in there." He told the young cubs.

Shera looked from her brother to her teacher, the way Shinn was acting had her scared enough.
After hearing Veral's words Shera's eyes were the size of the moon at night time. The story scared her. "I don't like the lurks!" She said burying her face in her paws. "They can't come here can they?" She asked in a high scared voice.
"What should we do now dear?" Miluiel asked Azrael softly. "Would you like to continue with that and then we could do something after we are both feeling clean?"

“That is indeed a child’s myth. Shades prefer a symbiotic relationship with a host much like the one I share with Alunn here” Friell said. “We draw small portions of power from our host in return we offer our services. Alunn here enjoys the scouting and protection that I offer, seeing as he detests actual combat” Friell continued. “The fact we live in dark places is based on the fact that as infants we are drained by the sun hence the fact that infants always are connected with a hosts shadow which offers safety. Adults such as myself have grown up with a resistance to it and thus are able to completely leave our host’s shadow.”

Azrael finished cleaning himself and smiled at his wife. "Let's walk around the village." He suggested pleasantly. "After that we should head to the Long House. I will be calling a pack meeting tonight." Azrael stood up and licked Miluiel on the cheek affectionately. "There is some news that those strangers brought that everyone needs to hear." He said, in a much sadder tone.
Veral smiled and knelt down to the two nervous cubs after Freill had said his piece on the subject. "See, you two. There is nothing to worry about." He reassured them both giving them each a gentle pet on the head. "Like he said, shades won't do anything to you unless you provoke them. And there is nothing to drag into the bog. Though I do ask, for the sake of your parents and the pack that you stay away from the bog. It is not safe without a grown-up, and nothing of interest to a wolf."
Shinn nuzzled his sister gently, reassuringly. "Its okay. I won't let anything drag you anywhere." He promised her.
Logain listened to the stories with interest. It seemed there were very little shadow creatures this far north. So few, that it seemed that this werewolf pack's notions of a Lurk was an amalgm of various shadow creature, but very little like a shade specifically. The being known as a Lurk in werewolf mythology seemed to Logain to be a Wraith or a Nightwalker, those especially did not inhabit regions in this part of world, seeing as it lacked ancient ruins and the only caves old enough to house Nightwalkers were likely locked inside mountains, were no mining had yet to be introduced. Interesting indeed.

"Friell, would you take Tam for a bit?" Alunn asked. Friell nodded and picked up the shade rabbit that was Tam. "Come now little miss. Let's go have some lessons of our own, shall we?" He asked. Tam changed into the form of a small girl elf and positioned herself on Friell's shoulders as he walked out.
Alunn looked at Veral. "Would you mind if I joined in the lessons?" He asked.

Miluiel nodded, "Alright dear, let us begin our walk. I implore you to tell me though what this news the strangers bring. Is it really so awful?" Miluiel asked worriedly. What could the problem possibly be? She wondered with a sick feeling in her stomach. "Will you have the children come to the meeting as well?" Miluiel asked.
"Thank you Shinn," Shera said and snuggled against Shinn. She felt a little better now.

"According to them, it appears that two armies assembled to do battle here in our forest." Azrael told her sadly. "One of them managed to make them scatter, but we don't know for sure if they will be back or not, but the taller stranger is of the impression that they will. Because of that I must inform the tribe and decide what we must do. As for the children.... I don't want them to be frightened, but if something happens then they will have to know about it. I am torn my love..." As Azrael spoke, it would be clear to Miluiel how much things like this tore Azrael apart on the inside. They had finally had their family, their peace, their safe haven, and now careless humans threatened to shatter their world. A lesser person would give in the indignation of situation, but Azrael could not. He was the leader and he needed to be strong and prevent people his people from giving in.
Veral smiled at Alunn and gesture to the floor, where Shinn, Shera and Logain were already seated. "We don't mind at all! The more the merrier." Veral said with a smile.
Shinn nodded and nuzzled Shera again. "Your welcome." He told her. It was his duty after all to protect his little sister.

Miluiel jugged a few steps ahead of her beloved husband, stopping him in his tracks. She tenderly licked the side of his snout. "Dearest, you don't have to be the pack leader around me. Around me you are just another dear person. You are my love, my life. I am your wife, I am here for you Azrael. Please come and release what you truly feel. You can be yourself around me." She reminded him. "Please, how are you truly feeling about this?" She asked with another gentle lick.
"YEA! Another practice buddy!" Shera exclaimed. She smiled up at Shinn and nuzzled him back.

Encouraged by Miluiel's words, Azrael allowed himself to release his feelings. "I can't stand these people!" He said, quite angered by the situation. "What right do they have to come here, and fight their pointless war? To take what belongs to the earth and desecrate it for their abominable creations." Azrael fumed and paced about trying to burn off his harsh feelings. "Wherever we go, someone else is there to persecute us, call us monsters, hurt and kill my people. Then when we run they chase, they claim to be defending themselves when they are the aggressors. And now that we finally have found somewhere to live, there others come ignorant of everything!" Azrael's passion eventually dissolved into sorrow and he bent his head down. "This is our home... I just want to have peace. I don't want to run anymore... we've run for so long..." He was becoming quite distraught, clearly caught in situation in which none of the options were desirable.
Veral grinned. "Alright, now where were we?" He said thinking for a moment. "Now, I remember. We were going to try creating the deflecting barrier. Now lets get into a frame of mind to get in between something else, to prevent something from getting to another." He told his students.

Miluiel sat back and watched her beloved husband. It made her sad to see his pain, and to feel the searing flames of his fury. Once he mellowed out and fell into upset silence she approached him and nuzzled him gently. "Yes dear, I can feel your pain." She choose to say this for the main fact that she didn't know what it was like. Her people once had attacked his. She was just as bad as the rest of them, but now this was her home too. It was her lands, her family that was in trouble. Suddenly it meant so much more. "I hope dearest that we won't have to run." She said gently and stood beside him, offering him a shoulder to rest against if he felt the need for it.
Shera nodded and waited for further instruction. She was excited, she had put up one barrier, could she possibly do another? She hoped so.
