Well, it's closer to german than any other language, I suppose...Although, when my sisters speak it I'm completely lost. o____o;

Alright then. Hmm... let me see, hears a question on Swiss German then. I've heard that the written is high german, but people in different areas substitute in local words as they read, so i guess there really is no concrete vocabulary system, because it changes from town to town?

But that's the same as in every language. When I write "it is" most people would just read it out as "it's," for simplicity's sake.

Of course they teach the language written in the way it's supposed to be written, just like someone from Dallas would read a script out loud in a completely different way from a New Yorker. There's one uniform way to write it (even if the stupid system keeps getting changed, /swt), just different ways of pronouncing it.

The dialect really comes in when you get to casual talk, just like if a brit were to say "camp" or "chuffed" or "well good" it would mean nothing to most Americans.

Same with Bavarian, as well. And, urm, Austrian accents. I just recently read a study that says growing up with a dialect makes you smarter. Dx

Damn me and my Hochdeutch! Although, I can switch between American English and British English, so that's alright.

I just wrote a freakin' essay. o___o;

It's not all that different. <.<;;;
Just, you know, funny accents.
And they say, "Meine Mutter, ihr Sohn" instead of "der Sohn meines Mutters." >.>;

I agree. I think Heine was a splendid poet. I have to admit though that I haven't read too many of his poems. He was romantic, but also a cynic. I once heard someone say that a cynic is a person that gave up in romanticism.
