My hair tangles easily, so I've found them to be quite functional...
Yet in some recessed corner of my brain, there's a slight "...wtf??" factor when my boyfriend, who's eighteen years older than me and thus has received the occasional ***** jokes from me, tells me he really likes my hair that way...
