Sammirah
Hey AGA, I got a question for you: do you look your age?

No.

Sammirah
When people try to guess your age, are they usually right within a couple years or way off?

Up until I was 29, they'd be off by as much as 14 years! I had some people guess my age as low as 15 then. Nowadays, they usually guess my age between 26 and 38.

Sammirah
Do people make assumptions of your life based on how old they think you are?

More now than in the past. They think that because I look a certain age that I should have this vast collection of accomplishments, values, and milestones. If they find out that I do not have them, I get treated horribly. Not having kids, a job, a career, a house, what-have-you often makes me something lesser and I get to be told in depth about it.

I get the opposite. My new co-workers often ask me things like "Have you thought about college or university?" And I say something like, "I thought about it plenty when I graduated four years ago!" Apparently I look 20, not 26.

Exxos my friend, responding to your first post...funny as it may seem...you are stronger then I.

Though I appreciate the compliment, I think you are selling yourself far too short and not recognizing that there is an immense spectrum of what can be called strength.

humble_gypsy_traveller
You still strive for things that you may see unattainable to you...but you still push for them. In that regard...I've given up; now I just live.

I would like to just live once in awhile... it's been a pretty long time since I was alive. Sure it may not be the ideal place to be, but in a way, it sounds like a relaxing point to take a rest. It's not a hair beyond self-destruction, grasping at anything to stay afloat, every moment filled with a mixture of confusion and terror.

humble_gypsy_traveller
For the pursuit of that girl, and this is going to seem cliche but there are tons of other lasses that will fit the bill for you...it just takes patience in encountering them.

Yeah, there have to be at least three or four out there. Heh. Seriously, it's like all of my female friends are the only sane, good ones in the world at times. (Take it as a compliment, ladies.) And of course the one friend that I admit that I have fallen for and start to work into a relationship is... the crazy, anorexic, disturbed one! Heh.

I think that might show a little difference in Canadian and American culture that has profound implications in society.

In Canada, it is: How have you bettered yourself or your country today?
In the US, it is: Why haven't you become better than expected? How can your country survive without you being better?

People think I'm older than I actually are. Apparently I act more "maturely" and responsibly than one might except from some one from my age, even though I don't feel like so. *shrugs*

Here's to make a direct link. (just text link) Enable your aquarium on your sig > click the "visit my aquarium" > copy the link from the pop up window > in the post use the "add url" button > and you are done!

The ones with the "not glowing etc", visit a page http://awesomolocity.info. Enter your tank id (you can find it from your tanks link. The tanks address starts as ad6b8e59594751d49cc7e08751c48cf cool and then click create. Note that for some reasons it might get mixed up. For my tank that thing doesn't work because it mixes up my tank id with the awesomolocity's id so it shows the status of some totally random user. stare

I can understand your friend in a way and the logical of me is saying the same thing but then again I've heard a saying (apparently James Dean's) "Dream as you would live forever or live as you would die today. The choice, is yours."

For a really long time, people would assume I was a lot younger than I was. I'm on the small side - which probably contributed to that. I was carded well into my 30s. Now that I'm in my 40's and often have kids with me and some gray in my hair I've gone from being carded to being called Ma'am. lol

You are pretty accurate. I'm currently 26 so not so young anymore, but people always think I'm around thirty or bit over that. sweatdrop That of course usually happens in the real life. I seem to act more of my age in the internet so in here people usually guess my age correctly. smile

I'm usually assumed to be either a 14yo boy or a 40,000yo eldritch abomination.

It doesn't seem to want to work for me. I enabled my aquarium in my sig, but I'm not sure if I should be able to see it or not because I can't.

I'm 26 too! A lot of people seem to think I am 20 or 21. The opposite from you acting more mature; I think because I'm generally very cheerful and upbeat (on the outside) they think I am young and haven't faced any hardships yet. But... I have face hardship. I'm a survivor of... a few things. I just choose to live with a positive attitude.
